Welcome Marxandsparks and babybump2be

marxandsparks I agree with telling people whatever happens too. I'm glad to have another early august baby too, feels weird to be the first of the month, and not know if we will have a july or august baby. I'm secretly hoping for july, as then dc's will be born different months. i have a ds born 16th August.

anniecam - that's good about early scan, I'm also thinking it's more definate to confirm pg after scan to others.

RE:alcohol I tried a technique the other night where I pretended to slip the glass regualy, but was not swollowing. I then tipped it into dh's when others weren't looking, but mostly the fact that i looked like I was taking sips distracted them enough, they were to busy drinking there own to notice mine wasn't really going down

nuttygirl · 30/11/2008 11:49

I've told people already. Mainly cos after dd I didn't tell family about my pnd and it was a big mistake so I'd rather they knew I was pg and if anything does happen I don't feel I need to hide it or anything. (and also a little because everyone knew I was pg at 6 weeks last time cos I was big ....maternity clothes at 9 weeks with my first, what's with that???!!!)

re: smell, I'm more sensitive to smell at the moment. Yesterday I could smell a petrol type of smell and dh thought I was mad

BumpVLump · 30/11/2008 15:42

Hello ladies,
I have also decided to be brave and take the plunge on here.
This is my first, I had a MMC at 8weeks earlier this year so am trying not to get too excited till the 12th/13th week but it is very hard as on my mind 24/7!
Feeling sick quite a bit but not really been sick- this happened at about 7 weeks last time so can't wait for that to kick in!
Good to be able to share my news with you guys as not telling people yet.
I am due either 31st jul or 1st aug, cant quite work it out...I'll add myself

Welcome BumpVLump!

I'm being a bit cautious about telling people - partly because it doesn't seem real.

Its our first as well and whilst we'll probably tell our closest friends next weekend as we're all together I want to be further along before telling anyone else.

About scans - when can I have my first one? I'm dying to see this little blob inside me!

nuttygirl · 30/11/2008 17:38

Welcome!

Round here you get your first scan at about 12 weeks and it's just a dating scan. There's no nuchal fold scan here (you have to pay private if you want it and then you don't get the nhs dating scan cos you've already had an early scan ). I just have the nhs dating scan. Then there's a 20 week anomaly scan.

Exactly what you get scan & test wise seems to vary a little by area.

SpecialOffer · 30/11/2008 18:10

Welcome to all the newbies to the thread! Its growing and growing now.... We are all going to be nice and big during the summer next year!!

Round here you get a dating scan at 12 weeks and then the 20 week. Its sooo long to wait until 12 weeks..... I remember with my ds - i thought they were going to tell me I had imagined the whole thing.

I have told all close family, as if anything happens they would be the first to know. I might tell my close friends, I shall see how the mood takes me.

sweetiewrapper · 30/11/2008 18:19

I have one DS (IVF baby - 2nd attempt) who is 2 next week. We have been ttc for 3 months and have got the result. Unbelievable. Congratulations to all of you ladies.... Wow, this list has bloomed since I was on on Friday! Welcome everyone...

We're just back from weekend away which was lovely but I'm full of the cold which is not.

Told DH's parents tonight but we're all being tentative and cautious after last time.

Our Healthboard offer a 12 and 20 weeks scan but you can drop in to the Early Pregnancy Unit any time up to 12 weeks if you have had bleeding or worries and they will scan you without question, which is so reassuring.

Have my Work Xmas night out next week, already planning the excuses

BabyBump2B · 30/11/2008 22:33

sweetiewrapper we're date buddies!

I'm in Canada so ot sure what the scan deal is. A friend who is 10 weeks has already had one but think she may have had some bleeding.

Feeling nauseous today for the first time... eeek!

2HotCrossBunnies · 01/12/2008 10:07

Morning ladies. I've been in 2 minds whether to join you yet. I got a BFP on Sat and again this morning but still trying to get my head round it! Will be due 08/08/09. I have DS1 3.6 and DS2 19 months. I was keen for a 3rd, DH much less so, so I'm not sure if "we" are supposed to be pleased iykwim. Funny how it's always a shock even if it's not an accident?!

Hello Everyone and welcome to the many new BFP's which have arrived since last weekend.
Thought I would drop in again and say Hello, now in my 6th week and starting to allow myself to believe that this baby might actually happen. Very early days I know, but after last week being convinced I would miscarry again, I decided that that state of mind was not the way forward! It was just making me extra anxious, so the only way to deal with the excruciating early weeks is to throw myself into it and just hope for the best. There is only so much you can do in the way of denial/ self protection before it becomes counter productive.
Anyway, not much in the way of symptoms to report, just bouts of extreme tiredness. Luckily have an excellent husband who insists I go to bed when he can see one coming!
Am going to 'check in' at the doctors this week and get myself in the system. Hoping for an early scan at 8 weeks if possible before the routine 12 week one. Had a MMC at 11.5 weeks before DS and don't think I dare wait that long again.
Anyway congratulations to everyone else and looking forward to chatting to you all during our (long) journey to next August.

bluesatinsash · 01/12/2008 11:11

morning all,

Funnys - glad to hear you are feeling more confident this week. I can totally relate as its only 13 weeks since my MC and I'm taking this pg one day at a time. Trying to be positive though and hope the bean picks up on my vibes!

My cold has now gotten into my chest which as I'm an Asthmatic is a 'mare. I was coughing all night so off work today and off to the Doctors later. Was booked to see him next week to register pg so can now kill two birds with one stone! I unfortunately get chest infections every year but don't know if I should/can take anything for it now I'm pg. Will see what the Dr says.

Its a gorgeous, cold, sunny day up here in Scotland, very life affirming!

nandos · 01/12/2008 11:35

hi everyone, just got back from the week long break and so came by and was surprised at how fast this thread grew!
funnysinthegarden, am in a similar position as you, had a mmc earlier this yr so am more worried than ever.
got a gp's appt tmr afternn so might have an early scan at when im 7-8 wks..so abt 2wks time.
bluesatinsash, hope u have a good rest and get well soon..

hi to everyone else

Clare1234 · 01/12/2008 16:35

hello I'm new, can I join you?

I still can't believe it but I'm expecting my first one at the ripe old age of 37! I just can't wait and feel so impatient!!!

I have no symptoms yet apart from tiredness but have done several tests.

I'm off to the GP on wednesday to see what happens next as I'm not sure what happens from here. I've had a tiny bit of spotting so am going to ask if I can get an earlier scan, if not we'll pay for private as I'm not going to believe this is really happening till I see a scan

I'm telling absolutely no-one until 12 wek scan is out of the way. It's going to be hard and people will guess (as I never normally say no to wine!) but I'd like to keep it private for now as I don't want anyone else worrying. Hubby and I are doing plenty of that ourselves!

BabyBump2B · 01/12/2008 17:26

Hi Clare - welcome! I'm feeling really impatient too - I am just wishing away the next 8 weeks!

bluesatinsash · 01/12/2008 17:41

Hi Clare - congratulations and welcome!

You're the same age as me - just a young thing .

re: what happens next - your GP will ask you to make an appointment with the midwife attached to your surgery (normally when you're @ 8weeks) to take a full history and bloods. That is then you until your 12 week scan. The GP visit can be underwhelming when you want them to jump up, throw their arms round you and give you hearty congratulations so be warned!

Talking of which my GP gave me a 5-day course of antiobiotics as I do have a chest infection - grrr. He triple assured me that they are safe to take, God I hope so.

Had a good sleep this afternoon and already feeling better although have woken up feeling sick!

nuttygirl · 01/12/2008 17:52

Another one feeling sick here. Have so much work to do too.

Yes the first gp visit is very underwhelming. I got a "Are you happy about it? Right well here's some folic acid tablets. Make an appointment with the mw on your way out". I was that they don't give you a pg test to confirm...he just took my word for it. This time I haven't even bothered seeing the doctor, just booked right in with mw.

funnysinthegarden · 01/12/2008 21:06

This must be the thread for 'geriatric' mothers. I'm 37 too! And agree about the first docs appointment, they just take your word for it and get you in the 'system'. Feels like there should be more of a fanfare. I'm booked in for Weds too, and so am preparing to be underwhelmed.

anniecam38 · 01/12/2008 21:21

Hello and welcome to all the new BFP,s, my how this thread is growing!

I too am a 'geriatric'-at the ripe old age of 38, yr thirties are the new twenties didnt you know?

Anyone else feeling sickly at around 4pm ish or just me?
