kitkatqueen, it almost always isn't the bikers fault , you were very lucky by the sounds of it. DH was side swiped on a dual carriageway, he hit the central res at 70 mph, driver who caused the accident left the scene He also is VERY lucky to still be here, we're thankful for that even though we're living with his paralysed arm. I since gathered that adult brachial plexus injuries are most commonly caused by motorbike crashes I guess I'm fortunate because the decision to ride a bike again has been taken out of DH's hands (so to speak), I always hated him going out on it.

I'm glad your back is feeling better

Mine however is KILLING me, I made the mistake of trying to push DD's buggy through the snow yesterday and I'm paying for it today big time. I need to be a bit more careful with my stupid hypermobile joints, they always get worse during pregnancy, I was on crutches near the end with DD because of SPD - ouch.

I had some shocking news this morning, a friend of mine was rushed to hospital earlier with a heart attack, she's apparently in intensive care in a coma , I'm so shocked, she has three DC , I'm SO praying she comes out of this OK.

Gosh this feels like a moany one. Sorry ladies

lifesaboxochoccies · 06/02/2009 13:51

hienz am really sorry to hear about your friend it must be so horrible for her dc
motherof2boys welcome and im sorry i know nothing about the fetal heart rate but what a long scan at 1.5 hours!!!
And can i ask if anyone would know what this is and if its related to pregnancy?:
i have been getting a sharp shooting pain that starts in my left bum cheek at the top and shoots down my left leg. Most the time its ok but every now and then it kicks in and if im out and about when it happens it actually makes me limp (very) slightly until the pain goes. Have no idea what this is and wont be seeing the midwife untill 16 weeks and am only 14 weeks today.

Mellin · 06/02/2009 16:23

Hi all,

Wow this thread sure moves fast! Doing my best to keep up. Hi to all the new posters and good to hear about all the scans and wiggily babies.

Have been home from work the last 2 days with DD who has the chicken pox. Apparently there has been 11 cases at her nursery since christmas. My days are being spent applying calamine lotion and repeatedly saying "don't scratch".

Anyone having cravings? I crave peanut butter, ALL THE TIME! I could eat it for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Have even been eating it straight from the jar today Why oh why can't I crave carrot sticks or broccoli? First preg I craved Branston pickles & cheese.

Nuttygirl - are you planning a home birth or at birthing centre, or just keen on a natural delivery?
Kitkat - dh swears by his osteopath. He gets a lot of neck pain and has tried physio, chiro, massage etc and reckons the osteopath is the best at sorting his neck out.

nuttygirl · 06/02/2009 17:33

Heinz - so sorry to hear about your friend. Fingers crossed for her.

Mellin - hope the chicken pox clears up soon. It's the one thing I really remember having as a child (prob because I had it over xmas).

I'm planning to have a homebirth. It was actually recommended to me by my community mw after I had dd - I had a 2hr 20 min labour with her . Whatever happens I won't be going back to that hospital as I had a v unsupportive, nasty mw that I made an official complaint about afterwards (basically she didn't believe I was in labour, told me I was exaggerating about the pain and then gave me pethidine too close to the birth). Luckily there's 3 hospital and 1 birth centre within about 7 miles of where we live so plenty of choice whatever happens.

nuttygirl · 06/02/2009 17:35

Oh and I'm craving all sorts - fish fingers, some sour shoelace things from Asda, ready salted crisps & that's just this week. Previously its been ice lollies, poppadums, salty chips.

nellyup · 06/02/2009 17:41

heinz hope you hear good news about your friend soon

my cravings are mostly in the way of rubbish meat products, sausage rolls, meat pasties etc and strong pickles. And I'm with you Mellin on the peanut butter - have had to resort to Basics variety because SunPat was breaking the bank!!

OonaghBhuna · 06/02/2009 18:34

For me sausage rolls, crisps, anything thing with mayonaise and loads of salad. I love salad and tomatoes cant get enough.
And......chocolate ice cream M&S do a gorgeous organic one YUM!

Better go screaming kids..............

TaleofTwoCities · 06/02/2009 19:14

Peanut butter yes!!! Nellyup I didn't realise how expensive SunPat was till I looked at the tescos receipt - £2.99!! I don't think I''m supposed to eat it in pregnancy either given that I get eczema.. but it's high energy isn't it! Also craving crisps and chocolate, oh dear!

Kanuck · 06/02/2009 19:18

Mellin - I love peanut butter too but midwife told me all peanut products were 'out' during pregnancy due to potential allergies that your unborn child may have/develop.

You should be aware that the US and Canada have recalled all the peanut butter and peanut snacks in the past three weeks due to salmonella poisoning.

I would highly recommend you reconsider this craving!

nellyup · 06/02/2009 20:25

kanuck - interesting that your midwife told you that. Mine specifically made a point of telling me peanuts were OK - she was trying to highlight things which had probably changed since I had my last baby 5 years ago. She said it was in the NHS book but TBH I haven't been bothered to read it yet.

HeinzSight · 06/02/2009 21:16

Unless the rules have changed very recently you should avoid peanut butter in pregnancy if either you or your husband suffer from any allergies like asthma, hayfever, food allergies etc. Otherwise it's fine to eat. Unfortunately DH suffers with hayfever, I've been having massive cravings for peanut butter

There's apparently no change with my friend, so awful. I can't even beging to imagine what her DH must be going through right now. Apparently she's in a coma

HeinzSight · 06/02/2009 21:18

On a lighter note, we need to come up with a new thread title. Suggestions?

Something like....

due in Aug 09 - the 2nd trimester is very much welcomed in here

TaleofTwoCities · 06/02/2009 21:31

Heinz - so sorry about your friend, am keeping fingers crossed.

Re peanut butter and allergies, I found something recent on the BBC website which suggests advice may be changing

HeinzSight · 06/02/2009 21:34

Oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease say I can eat peanuts

OonaghBhuna · 06/02/2009 23:21

HS: so sorry to hear about your friend, I hope she will pull through.

I hate peanuts but I love cashews, pistachio and today I bought two bags of pine nuts

Mellin · 07/02/2009 08:23

HeinzSight - what terrible news about your friend. It's so scary that things can deteriorate so quickly. Fingers crossed you hear some positive news soon.

Aaaargh, I didn't know the advice about avoiding peanuts during pregnancy, I will have to look into it. I knew the advice about avoiding if you had allergies or asthma, but thankfully this doesn't apply.

I love those little nuts

olivo · 07/02/2009 10:34

heinz, so sorry othear about your friend, how frightening!
I won't be able to join you for three weeks if we have 2nd tri thread
I had also heard there's been a rethink on peanuts but am steering clear for now as i have asthma and allergies, dh has asthma and dd has asthma and excema. can't actually face my usual peanut butter sarnies anyway.

finally got a date for my scan but not for another two weeks

Hi

I have been eating he odd peanut thing and did with DS. We don't have any history of allergies in our family so have assumed it OK. For some reason I wouldn't eat loads tho (even if I wanted too) as do believe in everything OK in moderation

Although saying that my cravings seem to be pork pies (stops the MS!) and ice lollies too. Had the ice lolly thing throughout my pregnancy with DS, everyone seems to think I'm a bit odd with this in winter!

Hi all, not been on for a while.
heinzsight so sorry to hear about your friend.
Good to hear most are having positive scans and welcome to the second trimester those who are already there!
I am feeling so ridiculously fat- looking at pregnant women with their big bumps with envy as I just want to get past the 'fat' stage and onto 'bump' so I dont feel like such a heffalump!
I have been trying to 'feel' movements but not sure what is wind and what is a jump...think its still too early for me- Im 16 weeks tommorow.
Also Im eating peanuts Im afraid- as with so many others its one of my big cravings.
I am also eating a LOT of crap food and not craving the healthy stuff at all. Yesterday I had a burger for lunch, then a fish and chip supper. Oh dear, not a lot of nutrition there me thinks.
I like the title LeninGrad, we'll all be there soon...
personally, I like:
'Bring on the bumps- we're not fat we're pregnant!'
but perhaps too personal to me!

Picante · 07/02/2009 17:59

Sorry ladies I've not posted for a while - I've been a bit anxious about my upcoming scan next Tuesday.

However I'm feeling pretty upbeat because I've definitely been feeling it move! Since just before 12 weeks! It's definitely the baby.. not indigestion!

Quite a good thing I've been feeling it as my doppler arrived today and I've not been able to hear anything.

Anyone else feeling theirs?

HeinzSight · 07/02/2009 20:30

BumpVLump, I love that thread title!! If we all agree, we should go ahead and use that one as we're running out of room here!

Had some positive news today about my friend, she's come round and was apparently surprised to find herself in hospital! Fingers crossed she goes on to make a good recovery.

BumpVLump · 07/02/2009 20:31

It took me quite a few times before I heard anything Picante. Just keep trying im sure you'll eventually find it. It will depend on how much chubba you have round the belly! Good luck for your scan.
