no not overdue, had a hindwater leak and high blood pressure so we were trying to encourage labour as induction was being bandied about and im adament im having a home birth! i'll be 40 weeks on friday..but no baby here yet.

My mum has sent me a stupid email saying

This is from the stork department, you may have noticed the severe weather and we cannot dispatch storks in the rain. Please be patient regarding your delivery, we aim to get it to you within two weeks of your 9 month delivery date!

did cheer me up though!

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 09:53

go, go, GO misdee. Hope your homebirth in your new place is fantastic!

all others...keep up the long walks and the curries! A loud movie at the cinema can help, makes 'em jumpy...

MerryMarigold · 11/11/2008 09:54

at email drswife

tegan · 11/11/2008 10:00

Thanks Drswife, hope you have a delivery soon.

LadyBuzz · 11/11/2008 10:06

Drswife my heartburn went instantly as did my squashed lungs. I have never enjoyed a crap hospital sandwich as much in my whole life! Not an indigestion remedy in sght since the minute he was born
I also appear to have hands and feet again and the elephant that stole my legs has kindly returned them!

Tinkerisdead · 11/11/2008 10:09

ohhhh yes i cant wait for all this fluid to drain away, will i just have one massive wee? DH cuddles me at night and says i cant wait to see what you look like when this has all drained away rhinowife i know he is kidding but i too and eager to see my svelte self appear from under here!!!!

lauraw78 · 11/11/2008 10:29

Tegan, I too am in for a sweep today, it will be my second one, the first was never going to work as I wasn't 'ready' last week, but since then I've lost my plug, so I'm guessing I'll be more favourable!

As for what it felt like, nowhere near as bad as a smear, wasn't uncomfortable or painful for me, but then I've had two kids already....lol, so that's maybe something to do with that!

Anyway, would just like to say good luck to all the ladies overdue on here, I don't post often on mumsnet, but I'm on everyday and would feel lost without it at the moment, its good to know there are others going through it just like you! Being 7 days over my due date, and my first false alarm being over 4 weeks ago now (damn third pregnancies)I'm right there with ya =)

Heartmum2Jamie · 11/11/2008 10:53

One handed typing, so scuse typos!

For those wanting to know about sweeps, I had 2. I had the first last Monday (3rd) when I was 40+5, but although I was ripe, my cervix was very posterior, the midwife could barely reach and the could barely get a fingertip inside. I then had my 2nd sweep on Friday and the midwife said it was by far the easiest sweep she had done in months. I was 50% effaced and could easily be stretched to get 2 fingers in to sweep the membranes. I didn't hurt even though she said she was being quite brutal. I went home, my hind waters went 30 minutes after the sweep and I gave birth just short of 4 hours later! I know it doesn't happen like that for most, but thought you all might like to hear a nice, positive sweep story!

chocolategal · 11/11/2008 11:19

morning ladies

i too am getting a sweep this week to try and coax baby out without an induction!

misdee everyday i think we are going to get baby news from you! this baby is definately making you wait!

drswife i think that is the perfect answering machine message

well, i ended up in hospital last night for 2 hours getting the CTG monitor thing as i had been worried about reduced movements recently.
i am still getting the 10 in 10hours they ask for but nothing like my babys normal.
anyway all was fine on the monitor and they didnt really have any explanation for the lack of movement.
they did pick up a few contractions tho but said not to get hopes up as that can go on for a while! hmph!!

look forward to hearing from rutho

lauraw78 · 11/11/2008 11:29

I just had my second sweep anyway, 7 days over but still the cervix is posterior, long and thick, she was able to do a sweep, but I can't see things kicking off for me without help =(((((

sparkletoes · 11/11/2008 11:33

Like u Vbab I have been sooo tired the last couple of days. Even after my marathon pm nap yesterday I slept well last night and could have slept longer if didn't have to get up for DS!

DS has been back to his normal self thankfully and no more early wakenings! Maybe the new Thomas clock or whatever was getting him up has stopped but don't really mind tbh just good to have him back to normal. Having said that he seems to have a cold now! (but better than the chickenpox that is going round his nursery!).

Heartmum thank you, thank you for that +ive sweep story! I was spared any of that last time but get feeling I will go overdue this time.. Will be 40 weeks on Fri and have MW appoint this pm and she is going to discuss/book me in for possible intervention next week if nothing has happened and whole thing scares me a bit! I am still not in hurry to have this baby but as it is predicted to be a big un don't want to end up going too overdue!

Sorry can't remember what else I was going to say, waves to everyone else and hugs to those that are fed up.

Misdee my show was a little jellyish on the thursday morning and then when in labour room at hospital went to the loo and more of a plug came out. I thought mine was going to be about a week before i woudl go into actual labour, alas NO... it was immenent.

Dr's Wife I like your mums email. I am currently sitting in the office (not offically working however doing the odd bit), with Esme asleep in my left arm so typing is very difficult. By the way, did we sort out a prize for the first to deliver? Hee hee... Mine was a shock delivery as I was convinced I would go overdue. Just think, when you go into labour how determined you will be to push your baby out. Just keep that in mind when you start with your contractions. You can do it, and the end result is worth every day that you were upset/annoyed at not having him/her yet.

Pinkali37 · 11/11/2008 11:50

p.s. have just put a couple of pictures on my profile of Esme. Will attempt to get some more on. x

Yorky · 11/11/2008 11:53

Wow, I feel quite left out of it not having a sweep!
But my lovely reflexologist is coming tonight and I think I know which of the two I'd prefer!
Good luck all

chocolategal · 11/11/2008 11:55

update - not sure if baby finally on warm up at 8 days late. TMI ALERT This morning kept feeling like i was wetter so put pad on. Definitely more discharge looking stuff, like a clump. I then did some ironing and thought I will have a nice relaxing and "clean up" bath. Before getting in bath noticed the discharge has now slightly changed colour to a slight tint brown. Went in bath after about 45 mins thought I really want to wee but managed to get out onto the loo. Well i had a what I thought was good wee, nothing else down the loo, then I went to wipe but as I did I did a massive wee that I couldnt control and shocked me because I thought I had finished. The "wee" also had no colour really at all practically clear.

QUESTIONS - Is this waters?! With DS my waters where broken for me at hospital so dont know.

Is the discoloured discharge a "show" (keeping in mind my one off bleed incident a week ago)? With DS it was a little bit of red discharge stuff.

HELP! Am I again wishing things to happen that just arent?!

sparkletoes · 11/11/2008 12:02

Awww Pinkali Esme is just gorgeous! Enjoy every min of this bit (this IS your prize!!!)

pinkali - Esme is so beautiful. Must get it from her mummy.

Heartmum2Jamie · 11/11/2008 12:11

Vbab, that sounds like how my waters kind of went, except I felt a tiny little pop, but I thought it was just a giant wee at first, until I realised it came out far too fast and "gushy" to be wee, it was clear and uncontrolable ie, the flow was uncontrollable. I hope this is the start of things for you!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 11/11/2008 12:12

Pinkali, Esme is gorgeous!

sparkletoes · 11/11/2008 12:17

Vbab I was told in PH classes last time that waters have a metallic aroma to them. My waters were first sign of labour last time and reason I was pretty certain what had happened was it had the metallic smell they were talking about...

My friend also noticed the 'pop' Heartmum mentioned when her's went but I was sleeping at time so didn't hear anything but it certainly woke me up!

Shall I start new thread, think the title 'Listen babies, I've crocheted you a lovely cardie... now don't make me come in there with that hook!' was mentioned by Ruthy and seconded by Daisy. Any objections???

sparkletoes · 11/11/2008 12:24

or for better english should be listen 'baby'!!

Is it normal to have lots of cramping pains after a sweep? This didnt happen last week, but for the past hour I've been getting really painful cramps in my stomach?!?

ceebee74 · 11/11/2008 12:45

Pinkali Esme is gorgeous!! Love the one of her on the sunbed

Vbab never had any experience of waters breaking either but from your description, I would say it sounded like it - maybe you shoudl ring your MW?

Drswife love your mum's e-mail - very funny

Sparks glad your DS is back to normal - when you are used to a good sleeper, it really throws you when they change doesn't it? DS arrived in our room at 3am this morning, jumped on the bed and said pointed back to his room and said 'pooh bear blanket' so I went in with him and he had somehow thrown his duvet (which has Pooh on it) to the other side of the room - an excuse to come and get me or a coincidence??? I wonder!!

Misdee and all others who are now overdue and seriously fed up - sending you positive vibes!

Had a really bad day yesterday where I felt really fed up, down and tired but feeling much better this morning (something to do with DS going to nursery maybe?? ) - managed to get a little housework done instead of slobbing round feeling sorry for myself!!
