I know... My mum's already started on "You're not going to choose some Irish name that no one can spell are you?"
Tough, mother is what I say to that!

GruffaloSoldier · 03/11/2008 19:53

FWIW I think names can be mispelt etc even if they are more common etc. I think it will be fine!

wilsonmummy · 03/11/2008 20:11

Evening all!

I have a slight problem with dd2 with feeding habits! its driving me nuts!! Basically she eats well during the day has normal breakfast soup, sandwich, snacky foods for lunch but as soon as we get to dinner time she stores the bloody food in the roof of her mouth and it doesn't matter whether its her favourite food or not. I've tried almost starving her all day to get her to eat a proper meal and that doesn't work!!
Has anyone else had this problem and if they've overcome it or any suggestions! She's nearly 2.6.

Grace over Rose me thinks!
My friend has 2 dd's one called gracie may and the other millie boo! how cute!

Nat.. Getting to the bottom of the laundry basket is no mean fate, fancy a start on mine!!

Kay.. yay for carpet hope its want you wanted!!

Hi Wilson

I have worked in behaviour analysis, mainly with children with autism but many had eating issues!

Will she eat anything in evening? Yoghurt etc? Have you tried big(ish) meal in the day for lunch? Then if thats no problem you can start with smaller meals in evening and reward any eating with things like yoghurt (stuff she would like to eat in evening)

If you do want more help I would be happy to but need to know a bit more details!

wilsonmummy · 03/11/2008 20:39

Hey Gruff

She'll eat anything other than her meal that i put in front of her, i wouldn't mind so much but shes only got a small appetite anyway, so for tonight for instance she's had half a bag of steam fresh rice, with peas sweetcorn and brocoli and half a portion of fish in butter sauce which she managed a whole 2 mouthfuls, i ended up putting her on the stairs telling her she couln't come away till it had gone she must have sat there for a good half hour!! I even put a fromage frais in front of her to try and prompt her into eating it whislt praising dd1 the whole time!!

She is one stubborn child!!

GruffaloSoldier · 03/11/2008 21:36

Sorry I was just on phone to my sister for nearly an hour!

Hmm...so what do you think about giving a main meal in the day and then lighter meal in the evenng do you think she would do that?

GruffaloSoldier · 03/11/2008 21:39

There are lots of different things to try. The trick is to try them for long enough to get them to work. I would usually say 2 weeks for any behaviour intervention. I wouldnt bother with naughty step as I feel this maybe giving her attention for not eating as opposed to act as a consequence - especially as you cant physically make her eat therefore the step wont work and thus weakens its use for use as a consequence for other behaviours. HTH

GruffaloSoldier · 03/11/2008 21:47

If you dont want to move main meal I would suggest giving her two mouthfuls worth on a plate and give her that in the evening - If shes only eating that anyway then theres nothing to lose. Praise her for eating all of it (should do if its what she usually manages) If you like you can ask if she wants anymore or to choose something else to eat as a 'reward' for clearing her plate.

Gradually over time increase the amount on the plate. Still rewarding in the same way. The key is consistency and to react in exactly the same way. Clear plate = reward.

I would expect by 2 weeks to be eating at least half a plate worth if not more.

I would not give snacks before dinner (1hr?) or after clear plate and rewards have taken place.

Sorry to take all this space up on the the thread

kayzisexpecting · 03/11/2008 22:23

Diege, We cant really courier it out as it will cost a fortune. Someone on here has said the pictures need to be better. We have already decided that we'll do more pictures if it doesn't sell this time.

Ses, I really don't know between Rose and Grace, I like both names so I'm no help I'm afraid.

Wilson, I'd love to help but DS isn't a great eater. He has a habit of throwing it on the floor and not eating it.

Mum came round tonight and did some painting. It looks great and I can't wait for it to be finished. Then I need to find a nice bookshelf and some shelves for the front room.

GruffaloSoldier · 03/11/2008 22:43

hi kay

painting sounds good!

kayzisexpecting · 03/11/2008 22:57

It's a little annoying though. I love painting but no one will let me do much. I've just been doing round doors and light switches. If DH comes home and I've done too much he gets grumpy with me.

GruffaloSoldier · 03/11/2008 23:04

sounds like my idea of heaven enjoy it while it lasts! Right I am off to bed.

Night!

kayzisexpecting · 03/11/2008 23:08

Night Gruff,

I suppose I better go to bed too.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 04/11/2008 07:12

Good morning

Heebee good luck for the scan sweetie Will be thinking of you. It is GYo's 20 week scan today as well (I knew it was someone else's!) but she's not been on for a few days, hope all is well if you're lurking?

Kay, if you could get the buggy and bits all in one box it might not cost as much as you think, when we sold DS2's buggy (also carrycot, carseat, footmuffs and apron for all three etc. etc.) we got it all into two boxes and it was only £7 odd for each box with some courier DH found on the net. It is worth looking around if you think it will help it sell.

Tink, hope you managed to sleep better last night?

Ses your names are lovely, I agree with Grace just beating Rose to the post, but both options are really sweet.

DH and I were talking names last night, I said what about having Edward, but calling him Ted instead of Ned, he hmmmmed and arrrrred for a minute or so and said he didn't mind that too much, but then it clicked in my head, if he won't have Ned because it sounds like nerd, then how can he argue that Ted doesn't sound like..... well.... hope you get the picture! I WANT NED. Or Seb, not bothered which, but one of them. Or maybe both, shit, we need a middle name as well.......

And then after me going through my names book (100,001 names!!!) listing some that I liked, some that we were just taking the piss out of, as you do, we got to the end, and he says "So, the short list, Charley, Harry, or Max?" Problems with Charley already stated, Harry is lovely, but 'Arry is awful and is how it's said up here, and is how DH said it to me, and Max... I do like it, but it is so boring safe. I didn't need to answer him if it was the shortlist or not, I think the steam coming out of my ears and my eyes turning red probably gave him a clue that he is so far off the right track it is getting quite laughable as to how we ever managed to find four names between the boys we have, and that this baby is deffo going to go through life being called "the kid with no name"

And OMG, did I mention we need a middle name as well?????

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 04/11/2008 07:20

Jeez that was an early morning ramble!!

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 04/11/2008 07:21

Morning!

Heebee - thinking of you today. I hope you manage to distract yourself before the scan.

I logged on to NCT website yesterday and registered my interest in classes. I was v impressed when the local co-ordinatir phoned me last night to welcome me and said that although they're busy, she should be able to get me on a class no problem and my welcome pack should be with me Fri!
My only concern is that DH isn't keen on coming with me to classes. He does tend to come home v tired from work most days and doesn't like to go out on a week night. I may try and persaude him to come to the first one and go from there. I guess there'll be plenty of time for persaussion tactics!

How's everyone else this morning? Gruff - I was v impressed with your advice for Wilson. I think between all us wagoners, we can probably find solutions for most things!

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 04/11/2008 07:26

Morning NJ - sorry x rambled x posted!

Ooh! GYo - sorry, forgot your scan Good luck!

NJ - how can your DH ignore the pleadings of all the wagoners for Ned??!

wilsonmummy · 04/11/2008 07:28

omg i atually managed to get a full nights sleep, wothout any wakages from dd1 i feel a bit groggy though! maybe i got to much sleep

Gruff.. thanks for the tips think i will actually give the 2 mouthfuls a try and see where i get... sounds like a plan to me!!

Heebee.. Good luck with scan

Btw, I have friends who couldn't agree on name and lo was called Baby for the first 3 weeks. For some reason they both agreed they wanted a name beginning with J but couldn't find one they both liked. In the end she went through her list again and said but you don't like J...., J...., or Jonathan! He said, but I do like Jonathan!!
!!!???!!!
Hence baby became Jonathan but can't believe it took them so long to realize they both liked it!!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 04/11/2008 08:29

Ses, good going on the classes, I'm sure you'll win DH round. Tell him he needs to go in case he has to deliver the baby in the car (chances of that are very unlikely BTW, but he may not know that!!) And I agree about my DH ignoring the calls of the wagoners, I think Edward Sebastian goes quite well, and fits in with the boy's names we already have, grrrrr at DH!

Wilson whooooooo hoooooooo for sleep and

I have the MW this morning, so will be last post for a while, hope to see scan news when I get back!!

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 04/11/2008 08:42

Right - I'm off now too.

Work this morning and then appointment with consultant this afternoon. My care is combined due to my underactive thyroid problems. Just realised that I hadn't told you guys about that appointment! Not as exciting as scans though

Then late this afternoon I'm going shopping at my largest local Boots as it's double staff discount day!!!
Am taking Mum with me to help carry half the shop to the car!
Actually, don't think I'll be that bad but it will certainly be worth stocking up on some basic toiletries.

Catch you later, probably via my phone as I'll be checking for scan updates!

Morning All
Thanks Ses for scan wishes!

Sorry I've been a bit quiet but work has been crazy. Also my boss is behaving like a prize arse- really not helping me to make my life easier, just making me stressed

Feeling rough this morning. Really sick, achy and tired. Hope I perk up before its time to go to the hospital... Think I'd better brave the boss and let him know Im going back to bed for the morning!

Waves to everyone.

Will come on later after the scan but might not be til tonight.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 04/11/2008 09:28

Hello all!! DS is at nursery, was a fight to get him dressed and there, but i did it!!

Feeling a little faint and tired, (symptoms of the meds) but other than that i'm doing well.

Took DD to a toddler group yesterday morning, basically just so i could sit and watch her while i rested... then took both kids out in the afternoon, met my sister, went to asda to get some 'convenience food' which i'm really impressed with, then went to my parents and they made us tea. Came home and put the kids to bed. Then i found i still had a bit of energy, so caught up with the pots (DH barely washed anything while i was in hospital) Put a load of washing on (again did none) and cleaned out the rabbit (again DH didn't do it) then just relaxed on the sofa till bedtime!!

As for my convenience food, i'm wanting healthy, proper food, but stuff thats ready prepared so i can just bung it in the oven then dish up when its ready... I spent about £40 and got tons of meals... about a weeks worth easily... they have some good fresh meats ready prep'd and in sauces or in veg etc and you just stick the tray in the oven, they were any 2 for £5... then got ready made fresh soups, ready prep'd veg etc... very pleased as i normally prep it all myself and will always make things from scratch... working it out its probably cost me a good £20 less to buy it all ready prepared... dont feel too bad knowing that!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 04/11/2008 09:30

Oh, good luck Heebie, and GYo for scans... I have my 16wk midwife app today (haven't you too gruff? if so hope all is well) I'm 16+4 today... hoping she'll listen in for beany's heartbeat too!!
