sorry, it said it hadn't worked the first time

Heebeejeebee · 04/11/2008 17:15

Hi all

Well I'm back. Bit of a mixed bag really. All the signs are good - they saw the sac and the yolk sac, but no baby. My uterine lining was very thick and the corpus luteum (sp?) was there though. The sonographer and EP midwife were v positive and they think its too early. Although my LMP dates me at 7.2, I ov'd on day 18 which would put me almost a week later than they'd expect.

They've taken a blood test and will call me tomorrow with the results. I have another scan booked for a week on Friday. They offered me another blood test in 48 hours, but I thought I would rather see things with my own eyes on a scan than a bunch of numbers. She did say that she will be able to tell if there is a problem by the blood test levels - if they are above a certain level then they should have seen more (iyswim).

Am tempted to Google, but maybe not...

heebjee - glad went well i am sure that results will be fine

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 04/11/2008 18:15

Heebee, I know it so much easier said than done, but try not to worry too much if you can help it. Everything they did see sounds very positive. The blood results can tell them a lot, I don't know how much you know about it, so hope I'm not doing the grandma sucking eggs thing, but they will be measuring the amount of hcg in your blood (hcg is only detected in pregnancy, and is also what HPT's detect) hcg rises very quickly in early pregnancy, which is why they do one blood test, then another a couple of days later to see how much the level has risen. It is a good indicator, but there are the exceptions to the rule (as with everything!) and I have read on here about people who have had their hcg levels actually fall and still gone on to have healthy pregnancies, it really is a rare thing that that happens but, it can happen.

It does sound like they are optimistic, try to take that part of it to heart, they wouldn't purposefully set you up for a fall, if they didn't think it'd be OK, they'd have said so.

Lot's of relaxation, long wrinkly baths, chocolate, and lots of cuddles with DH.

GYo · 04/11/2008 18:22

Hello
Sorry still not caught up, been in bed all day being sick- DH too. So had to postpone scan and MW appointment i had today to next tuesday when im 22wks.

Desperately trying to keep some water down as feeling so dehydrated. Hoping its quite shortlived but feeling really (not envy! (full sympathy for those with HG)

Need to catch up properly on todays appointments but I saw your post Heebee. Sorry it wasnt conclusive. As NJ said try and relax and not worry ( i know its hard).
THinking of you

back on when i can.

kayzisexpecting · 04/11/2008 18:23

POP!!!!!!!!! STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello How are you both doing?

Glad scan and appointments went well. Heebee, I'm sure all is fine, like Nat says they would have told you there and then.

I feel really bad today and DS has had one of those days where he just refuses to behave and I feel too tired to do anything really. I actually feel like I did the day before DS was born so my fingers are crossed that I'm just under the weather. I don't want the baby just yet. I'm not ready at all.

Cosmogirl · 04/11/2008 19:38

Evening all,

Sorry you feel rotten GYo - yuck. If it helps, after saying I was doing better I threw up my dinner halfway through eating it.... typical. Just eaten a mars ice cream and some cadburys buttons, they have stayed down so far - I think this baby is addicted to chocolate and sugar.

Nat - for what it is worth I think Ned is a really cool name. We have our girl's name all decided but DH and I can't agree on a boy's name for some reason.

Heebee - try not to worry - easier said than done I know. I would advise against googling. Have done it a lot with sickness and it has rarely brought any comfort.

Just been watching Brothers and Sisters and getting all teary eyed at emotional bits - have turned into a wuss since getting pregnant.

Diege · 04/11/2008 19:55

Evening - as others have said HEEBS, things are looking positive. The uterine lining soon thins out if there's a problem, and the yolk sack is especially positive (doesn't usually develop if there are problems). FWIW I think getting serial bloods done would be a good idea as they should give reassurance, though as Nat says by no means conclusive. Will be thinking of you xxx

Hi POP and STAR!!! Great to hear from you both, and that things are going well.
Hi to everyone else - still feeling yuck, so not a very inspired post! Turning in for night I think, so speak tomorrow x

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 04/11/2008 21:55

Hi!

Managed to spend over £250 at my double discount shopping in Boots but saved £138 on that!!! I bought my first baby item - a cute little cream top with a teddy bear's face on which cost £5 before my discount. Both DH and mum said that they thought it was too soon to be buying things but hey it was cute and cheap!

Heebee - the others are right - it is all good news. Just a shame that these early scans don't necessarily always give us as much info as we want. I'm sure that by the next scan arrives, they'll be able to see hb.

Great to "see" Star, Cosmo and Pop

GYo - sorry you're ill. Must be v frustrating. Take care and plenty of rest...

Diege - sorry you're feeling so sick. Take it easy.

Had my appointment with consultant. He was a bit concerned about my thyroid levels from my last blood test in September and so did another blood test. I need to phone up on Friday for result and if necessary increase my thyroxine intake again. He then wants me to have another blood test around 16th Dec and then go and see him and the endocrine specialist on 30th Dec! I'm sure it can't be causing too much of a problem as I remember MW telling me that by 12 weeks the baby is producing it's own thyroxine. It may be another reason as to why I'm feeling so tired though.

Right - off to bed for me. Sorry, can't remember everything else I meant to say...

LaTourEiffel · 04/11/2008 22:07

Evening all, just nosying and saying hi to Pop and Starshine (you got me, by the way Star!). So glad you are both doing so well.

Am off away on business tomorrow, not back till very late on Thursday night, so really should be packing but I'm sure I'll wing it

A week tomorrow till my consultant appt. for my gall bladder, time seems to actually have gone quite quickly for a change, probably just from having so much go on. I can't believe its November. I started this year naevely thinking I'd have a baby by now, at this rate I'll be lucky to have one by this time next year.

Sorry, didn't mean to be , I've been posting a lot less as I think its helping to stay distracted for now. Once I've got the go ahead to start trying again I'm sure I'll feel more positive.

kayzisexpecting · 05/11/2008 07:31

Morning,

Hi LaTour, Sorry you are feeling down. I am sure once you have had your op you'll be ttc in no time. My MIL had the same op as you are having and she was up and about and back to normal after a week. Keeping everything crossed for you that it all goes quickly.

Ses, shopping sounds so good!! I had a dream last night that we had won some money and while I was asleep DH bought a huge train set. It was horrible.

I hope everyone's sickness is subsiding this morning and I hope everyone else is good this morning.

My niggles I had last night have stopped so I guess I had probably done too much.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 05/11/2008 07:33

Awww GYo, how dissapointing for you? Hope you're feeling better today?

Cosmo, do we get a preview of the girls name? Or is it a secret?

Diege, hope todays session get's you back on top.

Ses, very good saving there, and hooray for buying first baby thing, if you are anything like me, you'll have that little top forever and ever! I don't know anything about underactive thyroids, or the meds, or the effects on the baby I'm afraid, at least it sounds as though they are keeping a good check on it.

LaTour, hope the trip goes well. I try to imagine how hard it must be for you, the only good thing I can say is that having to put off TTC until after the op, whilst being the biggest PITA, is the very best thing, you will be in tip top health, which can only be good. As always, you know where I am, and as always, I know I am not the best person, but I am here.

I am looking (and feeling) like Mr. Blobby this morning, have swollen up everywhere, can leave a perfect hand print dent anywhere on my body, I can't move my toes and fingers very well because they are too swollen to have room to move. Think I might pinch some of Diege's accupuncture pins, but I'd probably blow off round the room like a balloon that's been let go!! Not sure what to do to be honest, BP was high yesterday but not concerningly so, wee was NAD, they always seem to bat me away no matter whats going on anyway... On a brighter note, I hardly had any contractions last night, I actually slept for about 2 hours in one go with out waking up and I could handle 2 hour stints no problem!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 05/11/2008 07:34

Morning Kay What's horrible about a train set?! Pregnancy dreams hey?

kayzisexpecting · 05/11/2008 07:38

Nothing really but in my dream it was a 25 grand train set!!

I've just fallen off the computer chair and all DH has said is "What did you do that for?" Luckily I am fine and it didn't hurt.

MEN!!!

Heebeejeebee · 05/11/2008 08:45

Hi all

Thank you so much for your messages. You are all very wise women! NJ and Diege - thank you especially - you make a lot of sense!!! I asked DH last night if I imagined it (or was in denial because I felt so positive throughout the whole appointment) but he said they were definitely being positive, and he agreed with you NJ that they would, if anything err on the side of caution. They weren't promising anything, but they didn't seem unduly concerned either. Diege - I was wondering about the fact that the lining etc was there - especially seeing as my consultant said it was on the thin side in the first place. I'm reconsidering having the other blood test done - she's going to call me with the results today, so I'll think about it between now and then!

Ses - shopping sounds good! its good their keeping an eye on your levels, and hopefully things will stay ok

hi latour - hope the trip goes well, and the time flies before you can start ttc again...

Diege · 05/11/2008 08:47

Morning! Swelling sounds painful NAT! Have a vision of you stumbling round like the old michelin men in those white suits (am I showing my age? )
KAY, I can understand how spending wins on a train set would indeed be horrible .
LATOUR: gosh time has gone quickly - glad your appointment is soon. Remember to grill him/her on ttc-ing! Enjoy your trip!
Acupuncture at 12.30, so will have to prise myself out of my PJs! Woke up nervous about tomorrow's scan, but sickness is a marvellous distraction! Goodness knows how I'm going to down the two pints of water - no chance!

Heebeejeebee · 05/11/2008 08:58

Diege - hope the acupuncter is good! I was told to drink a litre of water in half an hour, an hour and a half before my appointment, which I did. But I think I'd drunk so much water during the morning I was in agony by the time I got there. Ironically, the sonographer said my bladder was too full and got me to empty it anyway! So I wouldn't worry too much about the full 2 pints!

Diege · 05/11/2008 08:59

x-posts HEEBS! Glad you're being positive - everything really does point that way. Remember, the sonographer will have seen so many 7 weeks scans that they will instinctively know when to prepare for bad news, and when to be positive, as with your case. Let us know how you get on with your bloods

Diege · 05/11/2008 09:00

LOL HEEBS I think I'd rather have the dreaded internal scan than down 2 pints!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 05/11/2008 09:07

Tink, I love the turtle one, but then I love the doll one as well... take it both is not an option? Not much help am I?!

Heebee, it may be worth you having the other test done, even if you don't want to be bombarded with the numbers, the MW will still be able to see if it is looking good, and that'd be all she needed to tell you.

Diege, I met the Michelin man at primary school! He opened our new play centre thing (that we raised all the money for, it was open for two days before we moved to junior school Still pissed off all these years later! LOL) and actually the Michelin man isn't a bad description at the moment! Hope the accupuncture does it's job.

I think I am going to ring the AN ward at the hospital, just to double check about this swelling, I am so sick of not seeming able to go a week without something going on, can't wait for the end of Jan, it'll all be over (well it had better bloody be!!)

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 05/11/2008 09:08

Oh yes, I didn't think you needed to drink for an internal scan?
