pinkali Jude and Mirissa.
sunshine welcome
hana smoking thing, my mum smokes and i was shitting it about this issue. I asked midwife and she advised that no-one should be handling a baby half an hour after having a cigarette as they still expel poisons in their breath especially arsenic. I broached it with my mum saying oh you never guess what....she went a bit subdued but she said oh well i can manage without a cigarette.
Vbab cant believe your pedicure thats awful. I had my reflexology session last night, woman pressed on my "pelvic area" and it was bloody tender. She also showed me the baby on my foot, very weird! im back there again thursday and sunday but so far nothing..
well thats a lie, i finally have moisturised feet! it was heaven.
coolkat good luck and keep us all posted.

daisy i know you said about calluphlyum(sp?) but midwife is bringing me some on monday and im willing to give it a whirl but we really debated how much to take. did you actually take it before as im aware of how potent it is but cant seem to work out whats a fair dosage. tempted to get the full helios kit but not sure i'd remember to use it all.

LackaDAISYcal · 29/10/2008 09:45

I've not used it DW; too risky with my previous sections as it acts directly on the uterus.

There's some advice on that thread that I linked about doseage, but if you have a google you should find something. I think with homeopathy a 200x dilution is stronger than a 30x dilution, but don't quote me on that.

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 29/10/2008 09:52

lol DW I just googled caulophyllum and found an article about taking 30c dose, then realised I was on the K9 dog forum

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 29/10/2008 09:52

thats what my midwife advised about the concentration...and now i remember you said its too risky and you cant take raspberry leaf either if i remember correctly...
i'll keep on the EPO, raspberry leaf, birthing ball and reflexology...to no avail then

Oblomov · 29/10/2008 09:58

Have added photo in file of Ds2 - Max

for those of you who don't know.

Birth :
Post 36wk scan and diabetic clinic, admitted into Kings tue , last week, 21/10/08 because blood sugars had beeen low.
Taken to labour ward to be given 2 steriod injections ( labour ward so that I could get hourly monitoring of blood sugars and other stuff). Cs planned for friday.
regularly CTG'd. Had 1st injection.
Then wed night 11pm. had ctg, started to contract. Phoned dh ( remember he is 2 hrs away)waters broke, man did they whoosh - they did say I had a lot of amniotic fluid. 2cm dilated. examined again within the hour 9cm !!!!1 now that is QUICK.
Started pushing. Told to stop. said there was a problem. lost the trace. dh had arrived. a decision was taken to go for general anathestic. music to my ears. I wasn't in real pain. But I just wanted someone to turn the light off and for my baby to be born, and for me to just wake up again !!!!

Dh had to stand outside. He said it was all very calm. He said he saw more than when he had been in, holding my hand, for my calm elcs for ds1. They got him out. He cried immediately. Everything was fine. Dh held him for an hour. He said it was th ebest time of his life EVER. He had never known happiness like it.
So ds2 was born at 1.43 am . 7lb 3 oz.

I stayed in till tuesday. They were very very short staffed. My diabetes was o.k.,. The diabetic team visited my twice daialy and were fab.

But ds2 - we have called him MAX. was sleepy, thick blood. He kept me awake all the first night. they said he had jaundice. heel pricks. then they took bllod from the vein on his top of his hand. oh my god did I sob. It was so awful.

My care was good. But overall a bit pants. because they were short staffed.

Anyway after my lvoely vist form Autumlady on tues, they discharged us tue night.

Local midwife came to take out my cs stitches yesterday. I am fine. I feel great. I feel on fire.

MW said ds2 is SEVERLY TONGUE TIED. She can't believe Kings missed this. Explains his not feeding properly, getting tirred, thus the sleepiness, exhaustion, the jaundice, becasue not feeding properly.

She said that they have a great breast feeding clinic - I went to this with ds1 actually, But MW has JUST phoned to say it has been cancelled today.
Shame becasue apparently the fab woman, is the quickest way to a referal, to get the tongue cut, by the oral surgeon.

I am very cross now. With Kings and upset bf clinic has been canceeeld.

Must go. am off to investigate what to do.

I did have lots of milk. But becasue presumably ds has not been feeeing properly, I am struggling now. In hosputal, a mw helped me hand express and we did indeed get neartly 2000 ml from each boob. This morning I struggled to get 30ml form one boob. and 60 ml formt he other. Am a bit worried.

Must go.

Have read alot of old thread. want to reply to everyone.. But can't yet. will do soon.

LadyBuzz · 29/10/2008 09:59

Good Luck Coolkat
Welcome *Sunshine
Welcome home Merry
HM2J & Lolabella wow our first official due dates, hope babies come soon
Am off for a wax now in preperation for Monday will catch up later, hi to everyone else

LadyBuzz · 29/10/2008 10:01

Obs x post he is gorgeous, Congratulations and good to have you back

sparkletoes · 29/10/2008 10:09

Ah don't worry Ceebs just enjoy a good start with the new bed! We got our DS his big boy bed for his birthday (end Aug) and he has only started to get out of it in last few days - but you may remember he is having teething issues at moment and is getting up earlier/not wanting naps.

In short if he is tired it makes no difference and he will sleep the same, if something keeping him up then he now gets out. BUT way I am looking at it is much easier when he comes through to me than starts crying for me (esp in my PG state!).

DocWife good on your mum!

Tinkerisdead · 29/10/2008 10:10

Obs max is gorgeous and so jealous that you have your baby...brilliant that you are so accepting of emergency c section, i think i'd have been petrified. Hope you can get the tongue tie sorted out soon.
Congrats again xxxx
all these babies coming along...coolkat get a wriggle on

cricri · 29/10/2008 10:15

Obs Max looks gorgeous, you and DH must be so proud. Had a tear in my eye at your description of DH's time with him just after he was born. Sorry the care at Kings was so rubbish and hope you can sort out the tongue and the BF business quickly so you can enjoy your new baby. How is DS1?
DW Just checked my homeopathy kit and the caulophyllum I've got is 200c. You could get the full Helios kit and get DH to give you the remedies if/when you need them. It comes with full instructions. My doula will be doing this for me.

LackaDAISYcal · 29/10/2008 10:15

Wow, Obs, sounds like a real ordeal, but he is here and safe and you are both well.

re the tongue tie; some BFCs will snip it themselves. My friends DS had a really bad one and it was done at the hospital BF clinic. At this early age it isn't a big deal for them. Perhaps if you called one of the helplines they would know someone localyy whi could do it for you. If it isn't done quickly then I think you'll struggle to maintain any sort of supply

There are good links on kellymom about tongue tie, and loads of mums with experience of it on here. I would start a thread in feeding for some advice as I think there are things that you can do to help his latch and how efficient he is at removing milk from the breast.

DD is really grumpy and I feel sooooooo tired.

OBS Abosolutely gorgeous! I ditto Dr's Wife, am very jealous that you have your baby now. Pleased the emergency CS turned out well. I'm sure you will get his little probelm sorted out very soon. Please let us know how you get on. xxx

Sorry I meant welcome Sunshine not Sunbeam... derrrr.... i'm pregnant you know!

Lovely names for Merrys 2.

Tarquin has started to kick more which is making me think s/he is while off yet. I'm petrified of going over my due date.

sparkletoes · 29/10/2008 10:21

Hi Obs so pleased to have you back and to read the full story!

Hope you get everything sorted with tongue, good job MW noticed.

But anyway Max (Grreeaat name!) is gorgeous! Congrats!

vbab78 · 29/10/2008 10:30

rutho - Sorry to hear about your painful night.

You really do make me laugh and would love to meet up after babies born. Spa and a pint (or 2 ) sounds great. Just hope you dont get too disappointed when we meet.

coolkat - Good luck. Really excited .

sunshine - welcome.

ceebee - Congrats on your DS in big boy bed. . Please send me some flapjacks. They are my favorite. YUM YUM.

driving - i'm still managing to drive even at 39wks. I did with DS and I was the size of a bus (ended up 9lb 4 baby). But definitely got smaller bump this time. At first was slightly glad when people said so but now getting worried and slightly annoyed as everyone is saying "you arent very big are you" when I say I am 39wks.

pedicure - thanks for your kind words everyone. I just dont know whether to visit that salon again . The lady who did my waxing was fantastic but the pedicure has sort of put me off.

obs - MAX is beautiful. Sure things will sort themselves out.

sparkletoes · 29/10/2008 10:37

Haey Vbab I would stick to the waxing from that place if I were you!

Pinkali why are you so scared of going past your due date?

All this baking talk is putting me in mood, off to make some Apricot loaf (very potent in iron apparently!).

Also did I say already that I am measuring 39 weeks when am 37.5?? Notoriously inaccurate tho arent they? Aren't they???!

vbab78 · 29/10/2008 10:45

me & DS - Even though I have bad cold I at least managed to sleep . DS still very poorly (cold, throat&ear infection and occassional diarrhoea) and seems to be today so far sleeping himself better. He slept 7.10pm until 7.30am this morn. He woke up crying, got in my bed and fell asleep for 10 mins in my arms. Fetched him downstairs (he asked) at 8 and gave him a drink and antibiotics. Then as he didnt seem to know what to do with himself I took him to my bed to watch TV in bed with me. He fell asleep at 8.30 before I even got chance to get in the bed. He still fast asleep now at 10.45!

How long is ok without food? The doctor said a week or more is fine as long as getting fluids but prefer water to anything else. DS not had anything since Sunday PM and wasnt much at all.

Tinkerisdead · 29/10/2008 10:51

crici are you planning on taking the caulowhatsit? how much does it say? Im not sure my Dh would be open to the homepathy thing though, The reflexologist showed him a point on my feet and said press this coping point in labour. he said i cant she'll be in the pool! then when he listened to my hypnobirthing relaxation music he called me a "Crank".

LackaDAISYcal · 29/10/2008 11:11

Virgil has gone really quiet. I'm not sure whether I should be worried or not as he is usually a real wriggler. I have felt two rather languid movements today inspite of repeated prodding on my part.

Of course it could be that he is enjoying a bit of P&Q during the respite from being squeezed to bits by BH contractions, but....

I read somewhere that things usually calm down prior to the real deal.....maybe that's all it is?

OP posts:
Pinkali37 · 29/10/2008 11:17

Sparkles I really don't want to be induced or have a sweep. Question; if you are induced, does it make your labour more intense?

Hope the Northern ladies are still up for the Meadowhell meet 2nd week in December (so long as all is fine).

QUESTION My mum keeps saying that when baby decides to come, they go quiet for a couple of days before, is this true? If so, as i mentioned earlier Tarquin has become more active so does this mean s/he is staying put for a while?

OOH I have another question but it's TMI question. I am on Fybogel (which incidently is fantastic stuff and I may buy some shares in it), anyway, when I need to go i get a really horrible pain in the muscle down there iykwim, do you think this is because the babys head is down there???? SORRY FOR TMI ... where is lacks, she is good for stuff like this!

sparkletoes · 29/10/2008 11:19

Poor your DS Vbab it is awful to see them poorly. My DS has not eaten much recently either but I would be more worried if he wouldn't drink anything. Not sure about guidelines, would listen to your GP's advice on that.

Oh dear DocsWife your DH doesn't sound like he has gotten with the program on this whole natural therapy thing... Don't think he is alone in this but then people tend to get a bit over things they don't understand... Hope you can perhaps explain to him why you are interested in it and maybe then he will be more supportive of your choices.

Oblomov · 29/10/2008 11:20

It had agreed to be sterilised at cs. But apparently I didn't mention this, so no consent form was filled in.
Funny that. Cn't imagine why I failed to mention it, when I was pushing, 9cm, ONLY concerned with the welfare of my baby.
Stupid people. ha ha.

Am making progress with tongue tied.
Daisy thanks for advice. About to start thread.

DAISY< YOU ARE A FUCKING STAR. AND I LOVE YOU> THNANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR CALMING WORDS WHEN I WAS IN KINGS.

I feel totally totally blessed to be part of the fantastic AN thread. I think this thread is VERY SPECAIL.

Sorry I haven't replied to anyone elses posts. Me, me, me. But i have read everything, honest. I will get to you. Honest govenor.

So, who is next then ..........

cricri · 29/10/2008 11:27

Drswife The instructions in my kit say to take the Caulophyllum every 2 hours from the onset of labour to maintain good strong contractions. Usually I take 2 of the granules but 1 is enough.
Could you not ask your mw to give you the remedies? Or persuade DH to be a bit more cooperative? Surely he knows better by now than to argue with a pregnant lady! He certainly won't want to argue with you when you're in labour I'm sure!
Daisy Maybe see how many more movements you get today and then perhaps go in for monitoring later if you're still unsure? I've also read things quieten down towards the end - fingers crossed this is it for you!
