Hey ladies had my booking in yesterday - and as usual things are never easy for me! I got there on time and because of a alarm going of at the centre they couldnt see me

I was sent home and told i'd be called... waited, waited nothing so I rang them.. they said they'd visit me at home for around 3.00pm which was fine.. but meant I had to stay home the whole time

Once she arrived it was actually really good to finally make contact with someone and it felt so much more real.. she was really helpful and put a few doubts in my head about getting the Nucal.. all in all it went fine..

ROLL ON SCAN TOMMOROW! theres loads of us due tommorow.. best of luck!

I'll be praying for all of us!

SweetBROODY · 06/11/2008 11:21

I hope the scan pictures arent to expensive and they give me differant ones not all the same!

Suddenly very hungry today... the dry rethching is so painful though..

Really looking forward to the Christmas break... Looking forward to sleeping all the time.. so sleepy at the moment..

Hopefully go shopping tommorow if scan goes well!

divedaisy · 06/11/2008 11:29

Good Morning Ladies.
I have meant to post over the last few days, but internet server is tempermental and keeps crashing on me.

I went for my nucal fold scan on Tuesday morning. Because I'm 39 1/2 my risk factor is 1:98 for Downs and 1:168 (or something like that) for the other 2 chromosomal abnormalities. My Nucal Fold was 1.2mm and readjusted my risk to 1:413. Privately I was hoping for a higher score (3000 would be nice!!) but the Dr told me that because of my age the result wouldn't have gone over 800. However, she also said that the baby has it's nasal bone present (which isn't present in Downs until at least 17 weeks), it has a rugby shaped head (Downs have a round head) and it was extremely active. SO those things increased the score, but aren't part of the algorythmn thing used to calculate. So I'm happy and won't be having the triple test or anything else. I'll see what the anomally scan shows on 31st Dec and reasses then.

Also on a previous scan (st 8+2 weeks) I should have been 12 weeks on Tuesday according to scan, and 12+2 according to my dates. At the nucal fold scan she readjusted my date to 13+1, and then yesterday when I went for my booking in at the hospital I was scanned againg and my consultant dated me at 13+6!!!!! So my EDD has gone from 19th to 17th to 12th to 7th May!!!

As for jeans... my Next jeans size 14 are still very big round the waist, but I can't tolerate a belt to keep them up so they are getting rather 'builders bumish'!! If I get jeans I think I'll go either for over bump (they stay up!!) or the type with side stretchy panels. I need to be looking for a pair of jeans cos my Next pair are about to rip!

Also feeling quite sick again. And I can't eat a lot. Breakfast for example consists of one shredded wheat and a glass of pure pink grapefruit juice, and a cuppa tea.

I also told DS youre going to be a big brother! He is so over the moon - he talks about the egg in my tummy and he cannot wait for the baby to hatch!! So cute!

sorry for long post.xx

1stMrsF · 06/11/2008 12:06

Back from scan...IT'S TWINS!!!!

Both babies are a good size (about 7cms), have all their bits and are low risk for Downs (>1:1800 for each of them) so I'm very pleased, but slightly overwhelmed!

Think I might deserve that McDonald's now...

FiKelly · 06/11/2008 12:06

divedaisy great news we've also been mentioning to DS about us having another baby... when asked if he wanted it to be a boy or a girl he said he wants a ball! lol

SweetBROODY · 06/11/2008 12:09

1stMrsF That is fabulous! Congratualtions... I'd love to have twins!

I'm so glad it went well for you!

Did they say if they were identical or not?

Jael · 06/11/2008 12:12

I'm still in two minds about finding where do nuchal scans in my area. I'd never even heard of them, as I never had one with DD. I talked to DP briefly about it last night, and he reckons I don't need to worry at all, as I'm only 21, almost 22. I still can't help but worry though. DP was like, what would you do if you found out the baby did have downs, get rid of it? Which just upset me even more. I know it was only a question, still upset me. I'm 14 weeks and I really couldn't get rid of a baby, especially this far along, and then I started to think, could I cope with a downs baby and a 3 year old at 22?

I keep looking at my scan pics from this time too, and I know they say all pregnancys are different but this baby looks 100% different from DD's pics. The head, body, arms, legs, everything looks different...Sorry for waffling on.

Jael X

1stMrsF · 06/11/2008 12:12

Thank you!

They are non identical, each with their own placenta and amniotic sac, so that's good too, as it makes them a lower risk.

Oh, I don't know what to do with myself!

SweetBROODY · 06/11/2008 12:14

1stMrsF Smile and ENJOY! its so eciting.. 2 bundles of blessings...

Momino · 06/11/2008 12:15

Wow Mrs F, twins! did you suspect at all?
that's amazing. do have that McDs. congrats.

FiKelly · 06/11/2008 12:19

1stMrsF omg that's amazing... congratulations!!!!! You definitely deserve the McD. I expect the news will take a while to sink in... and will now change your what I need to buy list dramatically how exciting

Momino · 06/11/2008 12:24

Jael, you are young so the risk will be so low.

i'm 39 and didn't have any screening tests because, having had two children now, I wouldn't be able to do anything else about it should baby have downs.

I've decided to wait for the 20 week scan where they can see anomolies like downs and other things so at least i would have time to mentally prepare should something be 'wrong'.

But please try not to worry as the chances for you are really, really low.

SweetBROODY · 06/11/2008 12:41

MrsF Did you get pictures? how much did you have to pay?

LoobyLou36 · 06/11/2008 12:53

MrsF congrats! Double trouble.

cece · 06/11/2008 13:00

jael - at your age the risk is extremely low. If you feel you couldn't get rid of the baby then to me there seems little point in have the tests done in the first place. I didn't have it done yesterday, and I am 41 and it was offered to me for free.

sweetbrody - at our hospital the pictures are £3 each. You need £1 coins as you have to pay via a machine that only takes the coins. However, this was in the letter they sent me about the appointment. Is there any info on you letter?

FiKelly · 06/11/2008 13:07

jael i'm 38.5 so that's why we paid for the nuchal scan. Your risk is so low I don't think i would have done it either had i been your age...

Jael · 06/11/2008 13:28

That's why DP asked me, would you get rid of the baby if it was, and my answer was no. So I guess there would be no point paying for a nuchal scan. So as I only had a normal nhs scan, is there no way at that scan they can tell whether the baby has any abnormalaties of any kind?

On the scan pictures, the hospital I had my scan at was donations for scan pictures, although they do like about a pound per pic. I had about four pics, only one of them is very clear though.

divedaisy · 06/11/2008 13:34

Does anyone else have a sore belly button?? Mine is so sore to touch. It's not red or inflamed looking!! Weird!

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 06/11/2008 13:35

1stMrsF - really good news and excellent that all other risk factors are low. I knew we'd get twins on this thread eventually!!

SweetBroody - photos for us were £5 but that covers you for all scans and photos. Again our letter explained it beforehand so we knew we needed the pound coins!

SweetBROODY · 06/11/2008 13:39

cece no information what so ever :S Scared but excited...

divedaisy · 06/11/2008 13:39

FiKelly - what was your nucal score, if you don't mind me probing.

MrsF - WOW!!! I'd go and have 2 McDs - one each! - but I don't like them!!!!

Away to get DS from school!

SweetBROODY · 06/11/2008 13:41

Lets decide a name please.. I really dont want lose the friends I am making on here...

MrsEvs · 06/11/2008 13:50

Oh my goodness 1stMrsF how very exciting and I'm sure terrifying at the same time! How lovely though that they are both well and a good size etc. Part of me would have loved twins so I could have 4 children without having to do the pg/birth thing again!

divedaisy great news on the numbers. Look forward to hearing all the other scan news today!

Jael I haven't had the nuchal, or triple screen or anything with my first 2 and I'm not planning to this time either. I've had so many friends who had false postives and worried themselves sick, went for an amnio etc only to find all well, and I just didn't want to spend my pregnancy worried. A friend of mine had a good point though that even if you wouldn't do anything about it, it might be good to know so you could be prepared - but again for me, I would have spent the whole pregnancy vexed, so I just figured I'd enjoy my pregnancy and deal with anything that happened as it happened. Like others have said too your risk is very low

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 06/11/2008 13:56

Hiya Ladies,

Sorry haven't written 4 a while have been so busy but have been lurking to keep up to date, don't want to get left behind!

At my last scan, i was 9 weeks so my due date has changed to 26th may, anyone else popping round then?

I have my 3rd scan next thursday, which will be my 12 week scan, have decided against nuchal scan as I wouldn't know what to do with the results, good or bad it would still make me worry so am not going to go there this time round!

The problem withmy ovarys seems to have gone now, although it does flair up if I do anything to strenuous! Pushing DP off the bed tuesday night proved this!

Is anybody in this thread in Devon??? Would love to make some lovely new friends to meet up with!

Congrats to all of you with your positive scan results, am so happy!

BRING ON THE 2ND TRIMESTER!! WOOHOO

Nikkie

FiKelly · 06/11/2008 14:16

divedaisy don't mind sharing my scores... in fact already posted them quite a few pages back on monday when we got home page 31 it was 1:3322 for downs and 1:27000 odd for the others & the nuchal measurement was 1.4

Nikkiemadisonandbump i'm in north somerset... weston-super-mare. not devon but kinda close!
