Calling all pregnant ladies in Blackheath/Manor Park/Lew

MrsEJO · 01/10/2008 11:46

Hello! I'm new to mumsnet AND being a mum ? this is my first!! Am only 15+3 weeks. I live in Blackheath / Lew and was wondering if there are any pregnancy groups that I can join / attend other than the NCT classes (I might be too early for those classes?). Just a gossip coffee on a saturday morning with people in the same boat would be nice!

I often catch the train from Blackheath St and wonder if there are any other 15 weekers on the platfrom just getting over morning sickness!!

Im very accessible to Manor Park too.

Would love to hear from anyone

Feb80 - that is fantastic news!

I feel slightly envious - we decided to resist finding out, though now am totally curious, especially as it is now making itself known to us by wriggling lots. Every night I think it practices climbing the Eiger.

I have booked myself onto the From Bump to Bubba course in Greenwich - starting at the beginning of March. Is anyone else from our group on it? DaisyJ - thanks for your recommendation!

The 24th is looking good to me - see you all then.

daisyj · 12/02/2009 09:21

Caz and feb80 - fab about the scans

24th is fine for me - I'd prefer the Railway too, but can make Greenwich if that's what everyone else prefers. Feb80 - my DH can pick us up from either place if that helps!

tupperwife - Samuel's a lovely name. Can't wait to meet him. One of the women in our antenatal class had her baby 4 weeks early and brought her in this week. She is GORGEOUS. DH looked smitten, and it's not even his baby (or so he tells me...).

Loving the stats list but that I'm second!

I'm planning to go to yoga at the Friends Meeting House tonight. Anyone else going? I haven't managed to reach Julie (I was given her number by someone else who does classes there) - anyone know if it's essential to book, or can you just turn up?

Anyone else in there third trimester crying at the drop of a hat? I'm a bit stressed at work right now, and I keep finding myself crying at random moments - and not just a few tears either - random sobbing on my own at home with only the cat as astonished witness - that kind of thing...

se8mum · 12/02/2009 10:43

Daisyj...
I am on third trimester and feel more emotional than ever before! cry with Eastenders and Nature documentaries, it must be hormones before birth! My cat Alfie also puzzled by sobbing!

am going to try antenatal yoga at Arches...anyone going to this?

looking forward to seeing you all on 24th, Richard I...6.30 or 7?

feb80 · 12/02/2009 10:59

Daisyj your DH is a sweetheart, yes please to a lift home from Greenwich on the 24th! Thanks. I'm definitely going to Blackheath yoga tonight so will see you there. I think Julie said last week that we'll be in the upstairs room this time.

Tupperwife I love the name Samuel for your Tupperbaby. Gorgeous.

Am also crying at nothing and only in 2nd trimester. Watched some awful cheesy Valentines Day marriage proposal on GMTV the other morning and was blubbing - get a grip, woman!!

heverhoney1 · 12/02/2009 12:39

I knew I had hit emotional wreck when I cried at the TV when a baby elephant had to be helped up a hill by its mum. [Blush] That and the hissy fit in Mothercare car park when the pram I wanted wouldnt fit in to boot of my car (Ended up getting a better one anyway but.. double )

I will have to find out where that pub is but the only bus that goes anywheere near my house goes to Greenwich so thats a bonus!!

daisyj · 12/02/2009 14:03

lol at crying stories, thanks girls!

See you at yoga tonight, feb80 (you're welcome to a lift home tonight, too).
x

feb80 · 12/02/2009 14:10

What am I going to do when you give birth, daisyj? No more lifts home! Brilliant, thanks muchly. See you later. x

Tupperwife · 12/02/2009 14:36

daisyj If you're after a pool for your homebirth, I've got an unused labassine and I'd rather it went to a bump I know than some random off ebay.... let me know.

The aqua aerobics teacher Sue at the Arches is brilliant as well; there are special antenatal classes on Monday night and Tuesday morning but she'll tailor her other classes each day for you. And the little old ladies at the regular classes are a hoot!

Cazinski, guess you didn't make the yoga class because I was def the smallest bump there! Let me know if you come next week.

Se8mum - I go to the Arches Thurs yoga classes, as above.

For anyone intending to go to the Arches aquaerobics class in the next few weeks, next week's Tues morning class is half an hour earlier because of half-term (so 9.30 start) and the leisure pool is closed 23 Feb - 4 Mar, so both Mon and Tues classes are cancelled during that period.

bubblensqueek · 13/02/2009 09:16

Hello Blackheath Ladies (and bumps!)- my name is Sofie. Some of you who have signed up to my antenatal classes in Greenwich (I have taken over from Bump2Bubba)told me about your get togethers so I thought I'd say hello! I've been a midwife for about ten years and run a service that provides support and guidance throughout pregnancy and childbirth. I quite regularly attend social meetings like yours in the area so Mums-to-be can 'meet the midwife' and ask questions about anything in a friendly and girly setting. If this is something you girls would be up for, let me know! On the 24th Feb I'm just in between two courses so I'd be free to come along for an hour or so.

x Sofie

ellie732 · 13/02/2009 09:55

Hello all,
I'd love to come along on 24th. Which pub is it again?

Tupperwife - Samuel is a great name and one we thought about (before we knew we were having a girl!)

Elk4baby - I commute to Hammersmith for part of the week - from Lewisham. Agree its a nightmare. The best route I've found is to go to Charing X (Do Greenwich trains go to Charing X?)and change to the district line from Embankment. Often get a seat between London Bridge & Charing X cos everyone gets off. Also often get a seat at westminster or Victoria where there's another mass exodus.

Daisyj - yes, crying all the time. In particular seem to fill up whenever I see a newborn ( made watching videos at antinatal class a bit embarassing). Assuming that this will rapidly change after birth, otherwise my little one is going to have a strange first few months.

Adding myself to list:
Rosa7/march 23/Kings
Daisyj/March 29/Lewisham (or home)
Elk4baby/april 11/Portland
Ellie732/April 22nd/Home (or Lewisham)

Helpivegottogivebirth/june 6th/Queen Elizabeth
feb80/june 30/Lewisham
jas28/july 17/Lewisham
cazinski/august 13/Queen Elizabeth

Se8mum - looks like I could be fighting you for the birthing pool if I don't get that Home Birth! (though miniellie won't be keeping with faily tradition if she isn't at least a week late.)

se8mum · 13/02/2009 09:56

BumpMakesTwoAndABit I went to yoga yesterday. My bump is enormous now, so hard to miss, really enjoyed it, might go to water workout on tuesday.
Next weekend I am doing an active birth class

www.activebirthcentre.com/

will report after

elk4baby · 13/02/2009 13:09

hi ellie732, I'm taking the same route actually, rarely get a seat though and I'm a big shy about asking people (most just bury their eyes in the paper/book). but lewisham is on a neighbouring rail branch, which doesn't tend to have as many cancellations/delays as the greenwich one (luck you ).

so i guess everyone's settled on the 24th then. what time and what place? is that decided already?

BumpMakesTwoAndABit · 14/02/2009 18:39

I got dropped off the list

se8mum - where in the room were you/what do you look like? Nearly everyone else had an enormous bump so that's not a very good ID clue! I'll keep an eye out for you next week. I was wearing a bright pink wrap top to start/finish with, and was just in front of Bernadette. I'm the one with hip problems (I did have them before I got pg, they're just worse at the moment because I can't exercise so much) I'm intending to go to the aquanatal session too, work permitting. If you fancy joining me for a sandwich at one of the local cafes after yoga on Thurs, you'd be welcome (as would anyone else!).

BumpMakesTwoAndABit · 14/02/2009 19:01

I meant to post earlier to elk4baby re the journey -

have you tried either of the following options:

  1. DLR from Deptford Bridge to Bow Church/Bow Road to Hammersmith via H&C or District line? You'd have a better chance of a seat at Deptford Br, as so many people get off/on at Greenwich, but you'd almost certainly get one at Canary Wharf. I don't like to ask ppl to give up a seat (esp as I'm not really showing yet!) but I'd have no qualms about insisting on having a vacated seat, or even asking someone who looks like they're getting ready to leave if they are... if they're not, it'll shame them into giving it up anyway. I find that the transfer at Bow Road isn't too bad either - so many ppl get off within 3 or 4 stops you shouldn't need to stand for long, if at all.

  2. my preferred option for least stress! Boat from Greenwich to Tower (22 mins)/Blackfriars (30 mins) & District line
You're guaranteed a seat on the boat, plus it really is the nicest way to travel... it can be expensive (though since rail fares have increased so much it may not make much of a difference), but if you have a travelcard/Oystercard with relevant travelcard pre-loaded, you can usually get 1/3 off fares, plus they do carnets and things, so worth asking. You can change boats at Blackfriars and get as far as Putney... though that's more expensive, and you'd need to get a bus for the last leg. Still, depends on how crappy your current journey is...

I work all over the place, including New Cross and Kings Cross as well as home, so I'm always trying to find more interesting ways of getting to work without feeling frazzled...

ToastnHoney · 15/02/2009 22:09

Hello all,

Boo - having been the one to suggest 24 Feb in the first place, now it turns out that's the only night possible for my goodbye do at work (my last day is 27 Feb - huzzah!) - so I shall have to miss this one.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of you at the aquanatal class on Tuesdays once I'm on leave.

clare7rose · 16/02/2009 11:05

Hi girls

I am new to Mumsnet - a friend of mine from work who has met up with you all advised me to join this thread and here I am )

I'm 36 weeks this week (eeek!) and live in Blackheath.. I started maternity leave last week and it feels very strange indeed!

I am free on the 24th so will come along and meet you then for sure.. if there's anyone else that is also on maternity leave and fancies a coffee in Blackheath or Greenwich during the day then let me know too.. would be nice to meet up with other 'Mums to be'.

I've been to the yoga class in Blackheath on Thurs evening once and am planning on going this week too.. have been to one acqua-natal at Greenwich on a Mon eve too but haven't been able to make it again - am hoping to go to next Tuesday's class during the day though.

Looking forward to meeting you all )

p.s. I've just started getting very emotional over silly things so it's good to read that this is happening to some of you guys too!!

feb80 · 16/02/2009 11:10

Ah ha, clare7rose, you made it! Hope you're enjoying being a lady of leisure and I'll see you on Thursday for yoga.

I'm giving daisyj a lift home on the 24th after the Greenwich meet-up so we can take you back too.

xx

elk4baby · 16/02/2009 11:55

Thanks a lot, BumpMakesTwoAndABit, I'll try those.
I'm not that emotional yet (32 weeks now), but starting to get quite sensitive to some things .
Btw, when does everyone take their maternity leave (which week)? I was planning on going on to the very end, but now thinking maybe I actually need time to prepare...

se8mum · 16/02/2009 17:43

I am starting maternity leave mid-march, so will be available for coffe/tea/hot chocolate during the day.

Elk, that means week 35 or 35...can't stand commuting

BumpMakesTwoAndABit, I think I was next to you in yoga...I have sciatica! most of us will have something...I guess...

Looking forward to 24th, Richard I pub in Greenwich

clare7rose · 17/02/2009 11:23

Hey there girls

feb80 - a lift on 24th would be great, thanks! See you at yoga on Thurs night

Hi Girls,

Finally got myself on here... after Feb80 reminded me at yoga last week! I did actually meet some of you at the Railway meet on the 29th Jan but for those I haven't hello! I also live in Blackheath. Anyway just adding myself to the list:

I don't think I can make the 24th Feb but will def come to the next one.

Quick question re ante-natal... I've been given my course dates and I opted for the later one, which ends around the beg of July so very close to my due date (although I'm sure my dates are wrong and I'm going to be later than the 8th). I just thought the earlier one (finishing in May) was too early but your thoughts would be appreciated!!!

Hope you're all well. Bump has finally started to appear so hopefully I'll feel less "fraudulent" at the next pregnancy yoga class! x

rosa7 · 18/02/2009 11:26

hello lovely ladies!

looking forward to seeing those of you who can make it on the 24th at Richard 1st! I'll be there from 6:30.

Life has taken a big turn since starting mat leave on monday - it feels really great and a bit weird! but i love having the time to do things i've been thinking about for months - and have to realistically start planning to have an actual baby in the house!!

cazinski feb80 and helpi'vegottagivebirth that is great news about your scans!! its soooo exciting seeing little one froliking around isn't it! we had a scan last week at 34 weeks - peace of mind thing - and i really enjoyed it, although bub is wayyy too big to see much, it was very re-assuring nonetheless!

daisy hope you are taking it easy, cat sounds like a good audience for loud sobbing - they are so discreet

went to my 1st aqua natal yesterday at arches I LOVE IT!!! was great to see you there se8mum

will try to make it to yoga tomorrow too!

yayyy toastnhoney you are nearly done with work!! fabulous. it'd be lovely if you'd join me to come to a breastfeeding drop-in on lewisham rd, quaggy children's centre on a fridays...if you're interested! i'm keen to get a bit more familiar with the whole thing before attempting it myself! and anyone else who fancies it!

hi clare7rose! we're similar dates and location! quite pleased someone has bumped me off the top spot for EDD! - i'd love to meet for a coffee somewhere - lets sort that out for next week - as no aqua-natal on tues am we could do that time perhaps? i'm sure some others would join. we could descend on buenos aires cafe on royal parade in greenwich perhaps?

just to let you ladies know i'm going to start a blackheath/greenwich "things to do with bubbas" calendar soon and post it up so we can all add to it - as promised!!

love, rosa xx

Tupperwife · 18/02/2009 14:19

rosa7 I got a Greenwich council handout of parent and toddler activities at a post natal drop in group earlier this week; I'll scan it and bring with on Tuesday so you can plagiarise it. Most of the groups seem to be for 3 months plus, but given that Tupperbaby (two weeks old) slept for the entire 2 hour session I went to this week maybe there's some logic there...

I've also got a birth pool looking for a home, and a box of raspberry leaf tea as well.

I'll drop into Richard 1st on Friday to check that they're OK with me being in there with a baby on Tuesday.
