Brand new BFP's - anyone due a June 2009 baby?

summerbird · 27/09/2008 15:37

Hi there

Did the test last night even though DH wanted me to wait a few days. I wanted to just do it to see if i could have a glass of wine or not and hoo-bloody-rah after 6 months of TTC number one i got a BFP on the free ClearBlue digital test!

So need to get a GP appointment but reckon i am due on 5 June 2009.

Anyone want to join me?

My GP didnt want a sample either....apparently the home tests are just as accurate as the proper ones. I even said that I had no symptoms and wasnt really sure I was pregnant but the Doc said that if you have had a positive test you are definately pregnant as there is next to no chance of getting a false positive.

I think it differs from area to area but they then offered me an appt with the midwife for tomorrow (at 5 weeks !)....so it seems as if everything is happening v quickly.

It might be my imagination but am starting to feel a bit odd....not queasy exactly but not hungry...which is very odd for me !...think I am over analysing

Jools1 · 29/09/2008 13:44

Myneaux - you are so lucky getting booked in so early I don't see a mw till I get to 12 weeks and, since my area are only just getting round to introducing dating scans, I'm not even sure if I get one of those

As for the nuchal scan - well I've got to book that privately.

It horrifies me how much care and procedures differ across the country.

Lionstar · 29/09/2008 14:03

Hi girls, can I join? I was on the TTC 35+ thread (with jools and summerbird). Got my BFP on Sunday (and another one today) . However my last period was 17th August, so it puts my due date around 28th May. Think will probably be in June though because I tried 3 tests around the days my period was usually due and all were negative (including the freebie Clearblue one). Was day 43 before it came up positive, so maybe I ovulated much later.

Have one DD already who is 19 months, she arrived 3 weeks early, so maybe this one WILL be a May baby after all.

I've got no idea what to do next though. You all seem to be going to the docs - I did with DD at 8 weeks, but second time around not sure if it's really necessary. Was thinking maybe just to try and make a booking appointment with the midwives (usually around 14 weeks). Thing is I would then have to try and arrange the dating scan myself - is that possible? Just seems odd to take up the docs time when I'm not really ill, and they just ask daft questions about eating properly etc, not much use at all.

The variation of care across the country is odd isn't it. We're fortunate here to be offered 2 scans including the nuchal fold with the first one. Just one district over they have to pay £150 for the nuchal fold!

Oh, just wanted to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to you all

Myneaux · 29/09/2008 14:21

I am a bit clueless Im afraid (this is my first)....I only went to the docs because I didnt know what else to do.

They didnt really do anything though. When I have my appointment with the midwife next week it will be an hour long appointment where they will ask me lots of questions and discuss which hospital in Leeds I want to have the baby adn what tests I want to have done.

It all seems a bit soon but at least something is happening. I didnt get the impression that I was going to get a scan though (would the midwife do these at my local doctors or not?)....maybe I will get that later.

One thing the doc did say is that they would recommend a Downs Syndrome test (I'm nearly 32 so apparently an 'older' mum) but that you have to pay for these in Leeds eventhough some NHS areas offer them free. So it looks as if its different wherever you go.

Jools1 · 29/09/2008 14:53

Hello Lionstar good to see you Has it sunk in yet ?

I was clueless, so phoned my surgery and asked if I needed to call the midwife direct - they said I had to see the GP to be referred, which I did last Tuesday (after peeing on another stick, just to make sure I wasn't imagining things !)

All he did was tell me off for being overweight, incorrectly estimate my EDD, recommned somewhere for a private nuchal fold and ask where I wanted to give birth ! He then dictated the letter referring me to the midwife whilst I filled out the MatB1 form. I agree - seemed like a waste of time for a GP to do that ...

My nuchal scan will be £140

Myneaux - this is my first time too and I'm nearly 39 !! Consider myself pretty clueless aswell, so thank heaven for Mumsnet

btw, the Downs Syndrome scan is called the Nuchal Fold scan - you have that at 12 - 13 weeks.

Myneaux · 29/09/2008 15:08

Thank you Lionstar....guess I have just proved how clueless I am !!!

When the Doc said she would go an get 'Emma's Diary' I assumed this was the midwife's diary and she was called Emma only to find out its an information booklet that everyone gets

Gosh - didnt expect it to be £140 !

Jools1 · 29/09/2008 15:20

I've heard about the diary, but wasn't even given that All I got was a 3 page printout on diet and alcohol

summerbird · 29/09/2008 16:11

i got Emmas Diary when i went in for something else but happened to mention that i was TTC. apparantly you should get a midwife appointment soon after your HPT then a first scan at 12 weeks then a 20 week scan, i am apalled at the postcode lottery we have, it is so rubbish that some of you have to pay!

oo and welcome lionstar well done on your BFP!!

my mum is a Practise Manager at a surgery and also said that it is impossible to get a negative positive test so good news for all of us!

we are getting quite a little June baby gang here!!

adie3 · 29/09/2008 16:27

Can I join u bunch of happy campers too?
Got BFP yesterday evening and am in a wee bit of shock still. Have DS 5yrs, DD1 3.5yrs and DD2 9mths and have only just stopped breastfeeding so wasn't really expecting this.

Am delighted though as always planned to have more if poss.

Congratulations to everyone else too.

adie3 · 29/09/2008 16:29

oh due date is 5th June methinks

VickyJane77 · 29/09/2008 18:56

I've managed to get into my docs this Friday, I wanted to see my GP but she has no available appointments until Novemeber!!!, but I wanted one soon so I can talk over my MC fears, so will be seeing a different doctor.
Up here, Scottish Highlands, we have just the one scan at 12 weeks, but when I had DS 6 years ago, we had the 20 week scan aswell, but we lived in Cheshire then. It's strange the way different areas do different things. Personally I would like a 20 weeks scan.

summerbird · 29/09/2008 20:56

vicky i am in Cheshire but come under Trafford NHS Trust who are supposed to be one of the better ones so hopefully i get a 20 wk scan too. At least you can get the 12 week scan which is the most important one. The Scottish Highlands are beautiful, i used to holiday there as a child with my grandparents - happy memories!

oo adie we are prob due on the same day - welcome to our thread!

get this i have just done my FOURTH pg test! I am so unconvinced by the Boots ones i had to do one with a proper cross on it!! It worked better this time......

iMightBeJoiningYou · 29/09/2008 23:05

Hi girls. A regular here with a namechange.

I don't even know for sure if I am pg or not, so don't want to make a complete arse of myself by posting on the antenatal thread too soon!!

Not even due AF until the weekend, but have some symptoms already. Did a Sainsbo's test which had a really really really faint line. So faint that I am actually wondering if I was just seeing it because i want to!!

Nipped out tonight and spent a bloody fortune on a first response so will do it first thing in the morning.

What are these free clearblue tests that many of you are mentioning?

If I am pg, and if I make it all the way (mc'd in Jan) then I will be due on 12th June.

Jools1 · 30/09/2008 08:56

Summerbird - I did my fourth test this morning !

I have so much energy this week, so little nausea and so little hunger that I was starting to wonder (again) if I was imagining everything. This one was so strong, that the PG line came up before the control line, so I think I'm safe

Welcome Imightbejoiningyou and fingers crossed

iMightBeJoiningYou · 30/09/2008 08:57

That line must have been a figment of my imagination.

The First response says NOPE this morning.

Ah well, silly me for getting my hopes up eh?

Good luck to you all

summerbird · 30/09/2008 09:08

hey stick with it imightbejoiningyou keeping my fingers crossed we see you back here soon

jools i still feel like i am imagining it, i feel a bit of a fraud telling the family but my AF is still not here, almost a week late and four pg tests later.......

last night my nipples felt so sensitive and were sticking out like cannons!! My DH was over the moon and i have been in bed by 9.30-10pm which is early for me!

aligard · 30/09/2008 13:55

Hello all. Can I join?

I haven't been to the doc yet (going on Fri - my day off - so that office don't know) but I did an HPT at weekend after two weeks of that oh-so-distinctive nausea. Two blue lines - yay!

EDD is 8 June (but I'm pretty sure my cycle was up the creek so actual date will be about a week earlier (on top of that, DD1 was two weeks early perhaps I ought to be posting in the May thread!)

Fingers crossed for all of us.

AliG

adie3 · 30/09/2008 14:03

A further two tests later and I'm now a bit doubtful. There definitely is a cross on both of them but doesnt seem as strong as the first one two days ago...but then they were different types of tests.

Aaaah well no sign of period yet and am always regular so will think positive.

i'd better go and do something to take my mind off this (like all the housework i have been ignoring all morning!). Madly trying to symptom spot too but truth be told I dont feel a bit different.

aligard · 30/09/2008 20:45

I'm sure I'm being thick here but what exactly does BFP stand for? I get the gist, but not the acronym...

aligard · 30/09/2008 20:49

Sorry - ignore that! I just remembered the existence of the wonderful acronyms page

Jools1 · 30/09/2008 21:08

That first GP appt is a bit of a let-down isn't it I kinda expected something to happen before 12 weeks, or to get some basic information / instructions / tests, but zilch !

My GP gave me a date of May 28th, but I really couldn't be bothered to get into the discussion about KNOWING I ov'ed on CD16 etc etc, so will just quietly keep to May 29th till I get a scan

bigcar · 01/10/2008 12:50

Hello ladies, can I join? Just got my bfp and am expecting dc5, I reckon due 1st June. You lot are so much more organised than me, must get round to phoning the docs, probably have to wait at least a week for an appointment!

Congratulations to everyone!

summerbird · 01/10/2008 13:45

welcome bigcar dont worry i guess you are a bit of an expert by now!

jools i felt exactly the same when i got out of the GPs, i felt like that was it until 12 weeks. my mum said to give the hosp a ring at 8 weeks if i havent had my appointment to chase them up.
