Hi there - all this talk of food is making me feel nauseous!! I can't seem to find the right balance. If I don't eat I feel sick, but if I graze then I feel really sick too!! I ate to much lunch yesterday and suffered for the rest of the day! DH said last night that as he hasn't seen me be sick then he thinks I'm playing on the nausea so I get him to do more things I have noticed that he doesn't have the tolerance that he had last time!! Anyhow I'm off to raid the kitchen for lunch!

pulapula · 29/09/2008 12:37

Hello all,

I got carried away last night and bought a bundle of maternity clothes on ebay! The tops are all sleeveless but should come in handy next April/May! Now thinking I need some jumpers and long-sleeved tops too! I already have clothes in the loft from last 2 pregnancies but fancied something different- £26 for 5 tops, a skirt, and 9 jeans/trousers seemed quite good value...

farrah · 29/09/2008 13:17

Thanks for the welcome Jules!

Daizydoo, tell your husband that each pregnancy is different and you don't have to actually be sick to feel sick! We all know what men are like with man-flu - this is a whole baby, for goodness sakes! Honestly...

pulapula · 29/09/2008 13:27

I have never been sick during pg but have had really bad queasiness and still class this as MS. It's just as bad. DH needs to stop whinging and appreciate what you are going through to produce his/your baby! Honestly- men, eh

pulapula · 29/09/2008 13:59

By the way, I should add that my queasiness was during last 2 pg. Not had any yet, but was kinda hoping for some so I could get DH to do more jobs lol!

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 29/09/2008 14:38

thanx for the suggestions ill see if i can stomach them, ive just had some salmon for a late lunch coz trying to eat a few healthier things it hasnt come bk up yet so looking good. thinl i might go and have a celmintine now might help wake me up abit.

also got such a bad headache today any ideas how to relieve it without pain killers?

kjat · 29/09/2008 14:46

FRAZOLDBAG34 - I think this will have to be my last too as I will be forty when I pup next year!

matthew& bumpmummy - I'm a size 16 too so it's damage limitation time on the grub front. Says she who just enjoyed pork pie with her healthy ham salad lunch!!

The annoying bit is I lost 3.5 stone with Lighterlife last year so the weight I'm at now is probably what I would weigh at the end of the pregnancy if I havdn't put some of it back on. V. annoying..

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 29/09/2008 15:17

kjat- wow thats amazing well done you, at least you are alot lighter than you would be if you hadn't done it at all you should be very proud of yourself!

yeah im just gonna try and be as good as i can be for now i had salmon and an apple and two oranges for lunch so thats much better than i had been doing like a dougnout and 2 packs of crips this monring for breakfast ooops!!! but i dont think eating healthy all the time is that important as wiv ds the sickness was so bad all i mostly ate was prawn cocktail crips and fab ice lollies coz that was all that would sometimes saty down! but gonna go food shopping in abit so gonna stock up on healthy crackers and fruits and stuff so hopefully ill reach for that instead of the crips and cakes!

Jools1 · 29/09/2008 15:23

Well I'm starving right now !!

Not sure if I'm eating enough or not ...

Large bowl of Oatibix and a glass of OJ
Banana, Pear, Tangerine
Ham and tomato sandwich
Packet of low-fat crisps

hmm - have decided it is not enough !! I deliberately brought lunch to work so I would't go out and buy unhealthy stuff, but I may have to nip out and grab something from the newsagents

daizydoo · 29/09/2008 17:16

during my last pregnancy I ate like a horse during the 1st trimester and it HAD to be stuff like pies, chips and crisps! I'm lucky I lost my baby weight quite quickly, mind you it did help having a 10lb baby!! This time I can eat slightly healthier, but not much!! Jools I'm like you I go off chocolate and sweet stuff when I'm pregnant and that is VERY unusual!!

llareggub · 29/09/2008 17:46

I've gone off sweet stuff too.

I bought a plate of sliced melon today but couldn't eat it because it tasted like petrol to me. A couple of my colleagues tasted it and proclaimed it delicious. How weird is that?

CoteDAzur · 29/09/2008 19:00

I went off Coke, which is very bizarre for me.

bekkaboo · 29/09/2008 19:31

Hi MS started yesterday, not been sick but god feel rough. Had app with midwife today, all seems ok but worried about over active thyroid? Apparently because of my weigh loss and hugh energy! Im sure its nothing, always seems to have to be something to worry about!

Dont see midwife again till 25 weeks now as will be wih consultant, does anyone know if consultant will cary out 16 week blood tests? sorry to go on!

CoteDAzur · 29/09/2008 19:43

They say you are carrying a boy if you crave sweet stuff & carrying a girl if you crave sour stuff.

When pregnant with DD, I ate about a hundred jars of pickles, AND drank their juices! DH caught me while chucking back a jar and gulping the juice down and didn't come near me for a while

So far, I'm not interested in sweets and deserts. We'll see if this one is another DD...

frazzledoldbag34 · 29/09/2008 19:48

kjat - congrats on the weight loss and how bizarre but like you I've also just lost 3.5 stone on Lighterlife (Feb-May this year)! It has all stayed off up to now, but think I've prob put on about 1/2 stone in the last 2 wks from having to eat piles of carbs to counteract the nauseous feeling - all I can bear to eat. Never mind, can always do it again- I'd do it again in an instant. Easiest diet in the world (once the first 10 days are over with that is!)

Also interesting diet fact (well, sort of) - I was 11.5 stone when I got pg with DD2. Ate like a pig for the first few months (m/s) then sort of levelled out and ate a lot of fruit for the last 3 months and sort of wasn't very hungry. (heartburn and big baby squashing stomach to blame I reckon). Anyway, had the baby (8lb 8oz) and came home next day, stepped on scales and was 11lb 3oz. So somehow had actually managed to lose 4lb by being pg. Don't think this is recommended, but didn't do it on purpose and DD is very healthy so obviously did no harm! (unfortunately then managed to pile on a load of weight postnatally which is how a year later I ended up with a BMI of 29.5 and on Lighterlife).
Anyway waffling now. Sorry

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 29/09/2008 19:51

hiya everyone, feeling better at the mo as took some paracetamol and had a nice healthy fish bake for dinner. i did have to go and buy prawn cocktail crips while shopping 2day as just had to have some which is what i craved wiv ds but hoping that doesnt mean im having a boy coz would really like a girl this time but obv be happy as long as its ok.

even thinking bout going on my wii fit once ds in bed later just gonna do sum gentle step i think but least its something!

Febes · 29/09/2008 19:54

Why is it that you drag yourself to make the effort to cook a healthy home-cooked meal and then when you sit down to eat it you suddenly don't feel hungry and the smell makes you queasy. Oh the joys of pregnancy!!
I got my scan date today its the 27th of October so can't wait to see the little bean then.

chubbymummy · 29/09/2008 19:56

Oh my god, we're on the second thread already! I've not been around for a couple of days and the thread has ballooned (almost as much as my stomach).

Has anyone else got a near permenant headache or should I be worried?

Along with the headaches I feel sick as a pig, I'm grumpy and I'm struggling to stay awake at work. The minute I get home I can't wait to whip my bra off (it's getting so uncomfortable) and veg out on the sofa. DH had just put DS in bed and I won't be far behind him.

runningmonkey · 29/09/2008 20:10

Febes - I am so totally with you! I just did the same and then cried because I'm so hungry but also feeling sick at the same time. Think DH thinks I've gone a bit doollally!

Felt so rough all day today and thought I was going to throw up in the car on the way home from work today as well - haven't actually been sick yet but I think its on the cards. Yuck!

On the plus side I spoke to my midwife today and she sounds absolutely lovely. Am meeting her next week for first appt.

CoteDAzur · 29/09/2008 20:12

I had a near permanent headache when pregnant with DD. It lasted about a month, I think (sorry).

SpangleMaker · 29/09/2008 20:14

Well, I've messed up tonight as, clearly suffering from pregnancy brain, I thought that Tescos would be arriving at 8pm and bringing my tea with them, totally forgetting it's a 2 hour delivery slot and they may not be here until 10pm - duh! So it looks like toast/scavenging for us tonight as I certainly can't last until then. These days, when I'm hungry I have to eat right away - pre-pg I could ignore hunger, but not any more!

llareggub · 29/09/2008 20:20

Cote I'm afraid that old wives tale isn't true. I completely went off sweet stuff during my last pregnancy and I had a boy. I didn't have any morning sickness either. This time I've gone off sweet stuff but I am feeling rather nauseous!

mags98 · 29/09/2008 20:30

I'm very worried now as I don't have really any symptoms at all! Mild queasiness very occasionally but that is it. I did have slightly sore and fuller feelign boobs for a little while but that has really gone away too.

So now of course I am worried sick that means everything is going wrong especially given the missed miscarriage I had in my first pregnancy last year. Going for an early scan on wed when will be 7 weeks though, hopefully that will reassure me. But am bricking it at the same time!

The worst thing with recurrent miscarriage is that you lose that happy innocent expectation that everything will naturally go well...

Doris - I'm on for a CVS too - my dating scan is next Thurs. Have you had CVS before? (I've had amnio but not CVS - guessing it's similar?) Fingers crossed you stay feeling well and the horrid m/s leaves you alone this time!
I think my Vit B6 might be helping, still feel rubbish but not quite AS rubbish as over the weekend. Hopefully not just a blip.

Anyone else considering a doula for birth/postnatally or an independent midwife? or anyone with previous experience of doulas/independents? - am in East Scotland if anyone knows of anyone good round here. Really want proper help with breastfeeding this time (I know, I know early days yet but I like to get ORGANISED!)
