star6 · 30/09/2008 21:27

I'm SHAKING. yes, dh is here but he's just telling me to relax!

WombFor1More · 30/09/2008 21:29

Star there is nothing wrong with you lol!! Some labours just start like this. Try some nipple tweaking - always good to get those hormones flowing Just make sure you do a lot of it!

Jenwa - hmmm not sure if I've just overdone things today as I have blitzed the house top to bottom, or if something is happening. Why aren't these things signposted in neon lights

jenwa · 30/09/2008 21:32

pistachio thank you, yes hoping all works out ok. Just trying not to stress about it and concentrate on this pregnancy and deal with the stress when it happens its bad timing but have to keep calm!!!!

star listen to your DH, go and make sure you have your bags packed with your notes in and everything packed for the baby as this will give you something to do and keep you occupied. You wont get time if things happen quickly so take the oppertunity now . Have you got a bag packed???

WombFor1More · 30/09/2008 21:33

Right I'm off - dp just phoned to say he will be home from work in a min. He has apparently somehow just managed to slice open his earlobe Feel quite sick at the thought of that but shall give him a check over when he gets in!! Men eh?

star Good luck. Just believe in yourself. You WILL be fine and you CAN do this

Look forward to the good news

xxx

jenwa · 30/09/2008 21:35

wombfor1more Yes, we need a light to flash on our tummy to tell us its about to happen and a countdown
You may have overdone it but then you may have brought it on too???!!!! If you want to come and blitz my house you are more than welcome as I am too tired today and DH does not want me to go in to labour yet

star6 · 30/09/2008 21:35

Do you bring the carseat with you to the hospital???

ajm200 · 30/09/2008 21:37

Star Good luck, this is a good thing. Don't panic. You and you baby will be fine. As everyone else said already, make sure your bag is packed and then try to relax. If you really don't want to be induced yet and you and your baby are not distressed, they may leave you for up to 72 hours for things to start naturally but you definately won't be going back to work for a while.

If it really does help, stick the relaxation CD on and listen to it. The more relaxed you are the better your body can do what it needs to do now..

I'm really excited for you.

jenwa · 30/09/2008 21:38

wombfor1more ouch, how on earth did that happen....will await yoour reply tomorrow if you are both not in hosp, you in maternity and DH is A&E!!!!!

star sorry I know its not funny but I am imagining you in a panic, running about madly and panicking at DH then popping on mumsnet whilst DH not sure what to do
You will be fine.

ajm200 · 30/09/2008 21:38

You can take the carseat with you now or if they keep you in you'll have to send DH home for it.

oh star noooooo, your due date is the day after mine you can't have baby yet!! swap you, no sign of labour for me yet!!

i'd take it just in case you get out the same day saves your DH having to go home and get it later.

jenwa · 30/09/2008 21:41

DH can take car seat when you are collected from hosp with baby but no need to have it before hand unless you just leaveit in the car.

star6 · 30/09/2008 21:41

The pad isn't getting that wet but I felt some come out in the shower.... what if I'm just wetting myself????

ajm200 · 30/09/2008 21:41

Just popped online for a minute, have to go now but I'm sending you lots of good birthing vibes and hugs Star. Good luck

07mumstheword · 30/09/2008 21:45

star I've just logged back on, how exciting You will be fine I know it's easier said than done but try to relax. The hospital will guide you when you call them back. I had my waters broken for me last time and that seemed to set things off quite quickly but as others have said every woman and labour is different.

Wombfor1more Maybe time for you too? Good luck.

Jenwa Hope is all ok for you and DH.

I've just sat down to relax (been cleaning like mad today for some reason and don't shoot me but I've just spent 2 hours wrapping Christmas presents ) and feeling some peculiar pains like deep down pushing on bowels, coming and going. I might have a bath in a minute to help. I've got MW tomorrow morning so will wait and see. A friend of mine predicted today that I was going to have the baby this Thursday (not due til 20th) and I can't get it out of my head.

jenwa · 30/09/2008 21:47

No star you are not wetting yourself. Have you ever wet yourself???!!!!! You would be able to control your bladder if it was only wee!

Star I'm not much help but I want you to know you are not alone I'm going to stay online until you have phoned the hospital back to see what they say. I'm sure a few of the others will be here to hold your virtual hand too.

star6 · 30/09/2008 21:53

I want an epidural when they start. How soon can I have that? Please don't bother telling me I'll be surprised what pain I can handle at this point... I just want to know how many contractions I have to take before I can have the epidural. if anaesthes....ologist is available.

07mumstheword · 30/09/2008 21:56

I can't ignore you after what I've just said I wasn't allowed an epidural last time but I had PE which you don't have so you should be alright but I don't know how quickly they'll give you an epi just ask for it asap.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/09/2008 21:59

Ooh star this is very exciting.

Agree with starlight that you have 72 hours before you'd need to be induced.
Don't think you're supposed to take a bath once your waters have gone, to avoid risk of infection, so avoid that.
I don't think that there are any set criteria for when you can have an epidural, but remember that it can slow labour down, so don't ask too early.

Having the baby early will save you worrying about it for the next 2 weeks, so it's a Good Thing.

Thanks everyone so much!!! Tried calling my best friend here but I think she's SLEEPING!
I called a substitute (my maternity cover) to come in to school tomorrow and emailed my principal.
Yeah, jenwa you're right... how could I be wetting myself? If I go to the hospital and they tell me that's what I've done I will be SO EMBARRASSED!

jenwa · 30/09/2008 21:59

star you will be able to take the pain to begin with and you will know how far it will go until you cant anymore. When you get to hosp tell MW's you will want epidural so they can make sure someone is about to administer it.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/09/2008 22:00

Make sure you have some snacks, a cold drink and a bendy straw in your labour bag.

it depends on the hospital i think, i asked for one when i had DD, they asked me to try gas and air first to see how i got on, and they'd be back in a hour to check on me.
plus if they have any c/s in they get priority over you.
i never had one in the end which i was really glad about, but just to warn you you may not get one straight away you may have to wait an hour or two.
