Just been talking to my MW friend, she said the same BH thing happened to her with her 2nd. She seemed to be in labour for a couple of days and then it stopped. It started again in the middle of night a few dys later at 5 mins apart and they only just made it to the hospital in time so there's hope for us all yet...

star6 · 29/09/2008 13:05

True pistachio!! But at least I have it in my mind that on 12th october, we're having a life change...and taht I have until then to be with my class at school. They are SO lovely!! I'm having a great day with them (they are at PE now). I would be totally bored and crying emotional mess without them.

You got a hospital tour?? I've been asking for one for ages! They said it's not a tourist attraction... makes sense I guess

oh right. we couldn't get into one at ours because we thought we'd do NCT class, then got offered one for just before due date and tried to sign up for nhs one but was already overbooked. So, we have no preparation... but we read a lot (I just tend to skip over the childbirth sections for some reason... thinking that part won't happen to me!)

star6 · 29/09/2008 13:14

Maybe if you eat a lot now pistachio, the baby will be nice and full when it arrives

WheresTheAuPair · 29/09/2008 14:01

star i got a hospital tour yesterday too- scary tho and I do wish i hadn't bothered! Not only did the sight of all the tiny babies frighten me but the person doing the tour was crap! She wasn't a midwife but a young studently NVQ type person who was really disinterested and freaked me out by several things she said. I wanted to be transferred to the local midwife unit after the section for the postnatal care-she said you make your own transfer by car 12 hrs or so after the op! Sounds dead scary to me. I could barely move 12 hrs post section last time- let alone hop in a car and skip off to another hospital!!

On the plus side, at least I saw that the wards were much nicer than the previous hospital I had DS in and the bathrooms were clean and airy. (no blood and mould in them either!!) The other thing that alarmed me was her comment that the canteen 'doesn't have regular opening hours so many ladies take a wander down to the local tescos for food' I had this vision of me trailing down the road with my gown, newborn in arms and wheeling my drip to buy a sarnie!! wtf! people like her should not be allowed to do tours. Will complain when I go and see consultant tomorrow. She certainly did not do anything to make me feel reassured- I was alot calmer before I went there.

wow this is an epic post for me- sorry guys- had to get it off my chest!! very cathartic posting on here

DH thinks is really funny that its finally sunk in that i'm actually having another baby. Could barely sleep last night worrying about it!!

Am comfort eating krispie cakes today- eaten about 10 so far. Please someone stop me before I turn into a big fat heifer lol.

Aubergenie · 29/09/2008 14:12

Hello ladies,

Sorry to hear so many of you are feeling so emotional and down today.

Happy due date Wombfor1more! Fingers crossed that baby doesn?t decide to make an appearance on time. It sounds like you definitely need the extra time.

Sambrads ? what a shame that things came to nothing after all.

Ajm - did you order your original buggy from Two Left Feet by any chance? That?s what we did ? stupidly as it turns out as of course it?s not in stock ? and have had to order another one while we wait for our refund. So annoying.

Star at your hospital. My hospital does tours every week. ?Not a tourist attraction?! The whole point is that you should feel reassured that you?re not in a completely alien environment.

I went to the hospital today to get my BP checked and the doc asked whether I wanted a sweep if things were favourable. My BP is slightly on the high side so I agreed, as I feel like it?s better if things get moving than I sit around watching my BP get higher and higher. Anyway, I was expecting her to say I wasn?t ready as I?m not due till tomorrow and I?d always thought I?d be late but apparently I was (and it didn?t hurt at all), so now I?m poised to see whether it will do anything. She said it only works in about 50% of cases and if it is going to work it?ll do so in the next 48 hours. I feel a bit sick but I think it?s excitement and nerves. Is there anything I should do to help things along? Maybe I should go for a walk? Bounce on the ball? What do you think?

ajm200 · 29/09/2008 14:23

Aubergenie Yes, it was two left feet. Was told initially 5-6 weeks, after 8 weeks was told might be two more.. phoned again at 10 weeks was told they had no idea. Sent a cancellation that they ignored. Set the credit card people on them and a letter offering a 5% discount and delivery in a further 12 weeks. Refused and asked for money. Nothing yet..

I'd get active if I was you but don't wear yourself out. Walking and bouncing all help to shift baby down a bit. RLT might help too if you are getting mild cramps that you need to strenghten.

Oh good luck, its about time another baby made an appearance.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/09/2008 14:33

Aubergenie - my m/w told me today that sweeps haven't been shown to be effective before 41 weeks. She then did one for me anyway, as I said that at least I'd feel like we were doing something to get him moving! She couldn't get to the membrane to sweep it though, as I wasn't favourable enough, but she had a rummage at the cervix to see if it could get anything going. She did say that I wasn't unfavourable either . Am booked for another sweep with community midwife on Friday.

Sambrads - please don't start worrying about induction yet, when you're not even due! You have a good two weeks to let things happen naturally before it comes to that.

Hospital tours are normally pretty standard Star, so if you do want one then I'd give them a ring and ask. At mine (last time, haven't had one this) we got to see a delivery suite and some of the equipment that could be necessary, so that it's not so scary if any of it is needed, and then we got shown where the wards and SCBU were, but don't think we actually went in and disturbed the patients.

Aubergenie · 29/09/2008 14:34

AJM - What a bunch of crooks! We got the message offering us a 5% discount as well. We sent them a recorded delivery letter including a print out of the cancellation Email that they claimed not to have received and FINALLY got an acknowledgement of our cancellation. Haven't got the money yet though!

I think I might try and go for a walk and see if that does anything...

Aubergenie · 29/09/2008 14:39

Oh CSWS! I hope your midwife was wrong - I've got myself all excited now that something's going to happen. The doc said I was very favourable and freaked me out a bit by saying that she could feel the head, which is very engaged apparently. Ho hum, let's see whether it does either of us any good.

WombFor1More · 29/09/2008 14:48

Well just got back from MW apointment. She was all ready to do a sweep for me as she knows me too well and thought I'd be desperate to get baby out, how wrong she was though

After telling her about the last 2weeks she said it's no surprise I want another week then. She's booked me another appointment next Monday and will do sweep then, if I'm still preg of course!

Fingers crossed for you both CSWS and Aubergenie hope those sweeps work for you. I'll expect 2 new birth announcements tomorrow then

Emmsy1 · 29/09/2008 15:05

I have also just got back from MW appt, was a little dissapointed that baby was lying back to back, last 2 labours were B2B and they were the worse 2 I have ever had, must read about ways of turning baby, as really don't feel I could cope with another back labour

MW told me to book my next appt for 3 weeks?? I will be 39+4 then, had 1 son a week early and another 2 weeks early so didn't bother to make an appt yet, thought that as 1 of my children was under 5lb and it wasn't picked up and with me being an old git that I would have been seen before then? Oh how things have changed in the last few years! Anyway at least everything else such as BP & wee sample was fine, so no worries there

ronshar · 29/09/2008 15:06

I asked for a sweep last week 38+2. Midwife laughed at me. She said if you are late then it is more to do with your conception dates! Which is why the whole two weeks before you ovulate is a big con when they calculate your dates!!

It sounds like lots of us are getting ready for our births. Our bodies are preparing themselves for the most difficult thing it will ever do.

Star. You should be given a tour of delivery suite. Phone them up and tell them you will be in one evening so you know where you have to go etc.
Dont worry they will know you are American and will expect it Seriously, as a first time mum you should be given a direct delivery suite number to phone when you are in labour and also alot more practical support than you seem to be getting. Which hospital are you going to. I would be tempted to write a letter to the maternity manager to state your lack of care. That will scare them into looking after you better

ajm200 · 29/09/2008 16:01

Emmsy1 Check out www.spinningbabies.com they have tips for turning baby now and in labour. Good luck moving baby round.

ajm200 · 29/09/2008 16:21

BTW ladies, a quick warning for those of you drinking loads of RLT to get baby moving. It seems its other use is to treat upset tummies so drinking loads might make you constipated as DH has just been told by holland and barrett. Googled it and it seems it is true...

sambrads · 29/09/2008 16:24

hi ladies went to see doc today as i feel so bad !!

sat for over an hour then went to see why i had not been called and they said they double booked my appointment i was so cross and upset they give me another doc to see so when she called me i broke down in floods of tears and told her i was nearly suicidal !!! she then asked me was i on depressants and would i like to see a consellor ?????

like what the flip !!!!!!!

i said i was due tomorrow and really weepy today and fed up and just wanted the baby out then she turned round and said "are you pregnant " ??? i swear she did not have a clue i might be neat but i have a hell of a belly!!!!!

she done an internal and said cervix very soft then she checked for heart beat and could not find it as she had the dopler just under my boob i had to show her were it was!!!!!!

feel like i have not got any further but at least i know i have an appointment on thursday at the hospital .

ajm200 · 29/09/2008 16:37

Hi Sambrads, that must be so frustrating. Obviously she was on another planet and it wasn't just you who was having a bad day. I'm sorry you are feeling so bad

star6 · 29/09/2008 17:53

Exactly how much mucous is in the mucous plug? I just lost another big glob of clearish whitish stuff! How much could possibly be in there??? This is well and truly disgusting!

LOL ronshar. I'll put on my most obnoxious american accent and see what I can get sorted for a tour . I usually try very hard to hide it (I'm actually from a state that borders canada... so I usually claim "practically canadian" ).

I have a MW appointment tomorrow at my GP surgery, so maybe she will help me out with sorting something out as well if I ask.

ajm200 · 29/09/2008 18:00

Star Lots, more than you'd think. I had about 10 smallish shows a couple of weeks ago that all seemed large to me, then a really huge one.. You could have several more over the next few days. It is gross isn't it.

star6 · 29/09/2008 18:05

yeah it's gross.
What does a contraction feel like? I know I know if you have to ask, it's not one! But I want to know what it feels like and WHERE it hurts... and does the baby move during it? I have a shooting pain down my lower back and bum this afternoon... that's really nice. But I'm sure it's not a contraction because I'm not writhing in pain... as I know I will be when they start

rosebury · 29/09/2008 18:27

Sorry that you are feeling sooooooo bad sambrads big hugs and you know that it will all be over soon are you getting enough sleep i am now returning to be in the mornig and getting up at lunchtime not possible for everyone I know.

A warning for you all get prepared for the final week of pgs as it is very tiring and you need to build as much strength as you can , do not plan any housework shopping etc and if you have lo try and arrange breaks from them also try to get the men folk home early to sort out evening tasks, believe me this final week really is a killer.

I am putting in a request to be the next one to give birth please I have spoken to bump but not sure that he is listening.

take care ladies.

star6 · 29/09/2008 18:28

furiously gathering together all black trousers for next week or so...
my friend is having a baby shower for me on saturday and she's put so much thought into it. I'm so nervous about having the baby on or before then!!!

star6 · 29/09/2008 18:30

sambrads that's one of those times that you want a really clever, witty comeback - when she asked "are you pregnant?" How ridiculous!

ajm200 · 29/09/2008 18:39

That doesn't sound like a contraction, more like a pulled muscle or baby lying on a nerve.

Contraction start out as period or gas type cramps, low in your back, tummy or both and get worse and worse. At the same time your tummy gets really tight.
