ninja just looked at pics, wow, how amazing and what a cute little girl, how lovely and seemingly all ok. She is beautiful. Hope they are doing well.

Good luck to you all.

DebitheScot · 13/09/2008 21:21

just checking in so I can find you easily and look for news.
Starting to worry that lollipop isn't ever going to have her baby!

hopefully · 13/09/2008 21:35

Congrats Gothic! Sounds super speedy and efficient.

gothicmama....many congrats and excellent quick birth.....hope mine be like that this time round!

lollipopmother · 13/09/2008 23:02

Starlight - Thanks, I'll look in to it but I don't really know whether I want to know, iyswim! I am far more scared of my placenta packing up before I get my induction, than of an EMCS or a painful labour.

Out of interest - can anyone tell me why an EMCS is worse than a scheduled one? Do they do the operation differently? Is the care afterwards different? I currently have a Bishop's Score of 5, which means unfavourable for an induction, but that was taken on Wednesday so it could've changed by then. I wonder whether I could tell them to sack off the induction on Thurs if I am still a 5, and just give me a section instead - I expect that's just me being exceptionally naive though right???

BabyStarlettsBeautiful · 13/09/2008 23:29

Lollipopmother It is exremely unlikely that you placenta will pack up before your baby is born. Not helpful evolutionwise is it?

Placentas don't stop working either, - they deteriorate very slowly, and can function extremely well throughout this.

Regular monitoring after 42 weeks will pick up any deterioration.

There are pros and cons to having an elective rather than EMCS. I haven't experienced either so my research is limited, but generally:

EMCS Pros: You have given your body the chance to deliver vaginally. Contractions stimulate your baby's lungs ready for breathing. Contractions stimulate your hormones for bonding and feeding.

EMCS Cons: It can be scary as it is less relaxed. You are having one because either the baby is distressed, or your body/induction is 'failing' (a negative idea). You are less planned so your birth plan may not have things like 'skin to skin please after delivery' in it. Recovery can take longer if have also laboured.

Elective Pros: You can plan every detail (like dimmed lights and soundtrack) and go in mentally prepared. You don't have the anxiety of having to cope with contractions. Recovery is usually quicker as not exhausted by trial of labour.

Elective Cons: Your body and baby don't benefit from the contractions. You MAY wonder what labour was like. You increase the chances of needing a C/Section with future babies.

blimey · 13/09/2008 23:38

lolli you don't have to have an induction, you can refuse it and say you would rather have a CS. You can also have daily monitoring once you are 2 weeks over to monitor the placenta and wait for nature to take it's course. this is what I did with ds2 and on day 17 (over 40/40) they said the placenta was showing signs of deterioration and so I opted for a CS that day. It was fairly easy for me to persuade them not to do induction cos of past CS. But an induction is an intervention so if you refuse it there's not much they can do.
In my case I do wonder if I had waited one more day though... my cervix was soft and effaced and I had had a show but when they said the baby cd be put at risk if I had waited longer that was hard to resist! I found them to be very pushy for earlier section than I had so you have to stay strong and know your facts like starlight says.

An emergency CS is same op and aftercare is the same but an elective is much calmer. My 1st delivery was emergency CS post failed induction and it was all a bit scary as there was fetal distress. Second delivery was "semi elective" ie they decided to do it due to placenta looking tired but there was no rush and it was sooooo much calmer.

Night night ladies, hope everyone gets some good sleep.

goood evening gals...
i am soooo bloomin knackered! just getting home from a day visiting the inlaws and a few friends, and a tiny bit of shopping.

i thought for a moment that my hoohoo was gonna fall out as we were walking back to the car from the shopping center...i was super uncomfortable! then i've been having incredible period cramps waaay low down for most of the evening...but since i've been home, taken off the horrid maternity pants, i think its easing up a tiny tiny bit...

i see that i have missed loads of news today! (births, waters breaking, etc) will definitely spend sunday morning catching up! ((must not get too far behind with this fast paced thread!!))

anyways, goodnight! hope the day was nice for you all.

lollipopmother I went 13 days overdue with DD, had a complete failure of a sweep on day 10 overdue and was living in terror of induction. Induced with the gel through the cervix (uncomfortable) only needed one shot though, first contraction hit in 4 hours later. I had a long labour as to be honest DD was not ready to come out, not stuck, no complications just not ready to be born! I had all the drugs going and eventually had a forceps birth (last chance before C Section) I am glad I kept with the labour because although i tore fairly badly I was up and about in about 4 hours and the pain was managable with a couple of paracetomol. They tried to make me have a C Section 3 times during labour but i'm glad i held out (i was just progressing slowly), If there had been any danger to DD i would have said ok but after all that work with labour I really wanted a vaginal birth - and hopfully this time the birth thing should be easier .

Don't mean to scare anyone! But give induction a try (hope you won't have to) as i think the aftermath is better than the CS option.

((probably not too nice to leave milkbeard on the 'days left' list as well as the arrivals list))

MunkiMom · 14/09/2008 09:35

morning everyone.

just a few little notes (after taking ages to catch up from yesterday!).

gothicmama huge congrats! and such a speedy delivery! ((makes me hopeful!!!!))

jearund good luck hun! hoping to heard about your arrival in the coming week! oh so exciting to hear when the waters go or the contractions start!

i posted a bit late last night when we got in from the day away...i felt so beat down! plus i've experienced the most "niggles" i've ever had! and this morning, the upper inside of thighs and the outter pelvic floor area feels so sore and bruised... maybe i was sitting on the really hard cafe chair for an hour too long?!?!
with all the niggles, strains, and pains, one can only wonder if they'll pop in this final week before Edd! but not going to get my hopes up.

ds didn't get much sleep yesterday as far as naps go, plus we got home after 11...needless to say he didnt have a restful night. in turn, of course, dh nor myself did either. i felt so sad for ds though, he was throwing up in his bed and was sooo knackered that he just kept screaming to get back in his bed! ((i had strip the bed first..)) poor little man, just wanted to sleep! ((but so did mommee))

how's everyone else doing today? any news from the night for any of you?

i wonder if we'll get a surge of full moon babies come monday evening?!?! ((or is it tonight for the full moon? ))

MelT76 · 14/09/2008 09:36

Oops never noticed. Although its not just me that didn't.

MunkiMom · 14/09/2008 09:36

OH!!!
happy due date, elideb & ipanemagirl!

MunkiMom · 14/09/2008 09:38

mel
no worries, i swear it just keeps magically appearing, even after i copy & paste & delete! (milkbeard's name).

she must be determined to go through it all again, eh?

lollipopmother · 14/09/2008 09:52

Ladies thank you for your support, I was feeling particularly pathetic yesterday, i'm not normally quite that useless! I've got the in-laws here this weekend, I love them to pieces but I am just not in the mood, and everyone is trying to make me 'cheer up' because the baby will 'come in its own time' and I just want to punch them in the face for being so chipper!

I have had period pains all of last night and this morning, and back ache.

becaroo · 14/09/2008 10:30

Morning ladies.

Congrats to gothic...what a fab weight!!!

Jearund...hope all is well and you have your little one by now.

Still here. Still getting false labour pains every night and bad period cramps again from 3am this morning...then nothing. Pah.

TMI ALERT:
Any tips for constipation???? I cannot remember the last time I went and am in pain! I have been taking lactulose x 2 a day for the last 3 days and nothing is happening....should I ring someone for advice or just take paracetamol and hope for the best? I dont think you are allowed to take sennakot in pregnancy are you?

I have a midwife appointment on thursday - my EDD! - could I ask her to do an internal to see if anything is happening down there? I think if it was I would ask for a sweep. Am getting pretty desperate to get this baby out now. Lolli - I dont know how you are coping being so calm - I am not even due yet!!!!

Off to PIL for lunch, then nap I think.Anyone else planning to watch the BBC dramatisation of Tess of the D'Ubervilles tonight?

ipanemagirl · 14/09/2008 10:42

Congratulations Gothicmama ! wow that's a size!! This LO feels much bigger than ds ( who was just over 8 lbs.....) so I'm a little nervous...

Thanks MunkiMom you reminded me, I was sure it was the 14th tomorrow. Although this is my due date, my notes have the 16th as well so I still feel like it's not yet! Being really tearful on Friday made me think it was more imminent than it was though....

Becaroo and Lollipop you are clearly getting closer! I had exactly that when ds was starting...

Becaroo, re constipation - porridge made with proper porridge oats is working for me!

I'm NOT ready, I told my bump I need until tomorrow at least but preferably another week or so! It sorted of harrumphed when I said that. But I am knitting and have now finished all my sewing projects (not big projects just Beaver scout badges, name tags etc!) what greater sign of nesting could there be but KNITTING?!! {blush]

I've also actuallly SHOWN dh how the washing machine works and made a list of all ds's activities, the equipment he needs for each one and which day it happens on. We'll have to see if he turns up to Beavers scouts with his swimming kit!

Just want cake.......

hopefully · 14/09/2008 10:44

Becaroo are you also drinking plenty? No point softening anything if it's too dry to come out! If you try eating dried fruit etc (usually pretty effective), you need plenty of water to keep it moving too. Also make sure you're moving lots if you can - constipation is prevalent among people who are housebound, as you need the body to be moving to keep the gut moving.

I am having nothing remotely resembling labour pains, not even really a twinge. Just my slowly expanding stretch marks to keep me company.

ipanemagirl · 14/09/2008 10:51

hopefully do your stretch marks hurt at the beginning? They sort of burn for a day with me, really unpleasant. I'm never getting my stomach out again after this I suspect!

WombFor1More · 14/09/2008 11:22

Yayyy more babies!! Congrats ladies hope you're all doing well

Well I woke up yesterday morning to find dd covered in chickenpox I can't believe it. The worst timing ever.

Just hope she is over it by time little man decides to put in an apperance. I had it when I was little so there shouldn't be a problem with me getting it. Fingers crossed.

So fat and fed up now yet can't try anything to get him out because of these darn spots, even though it's unlikely all the self induction means would work anyway!

Really feel for you ladies who are so close and have had enough.Won't be long now though

Can't remember if I posted or not (and too lazy to look!) Had MW apointment here on Thurs, she brought my HB kit out. Has also booked me a growth scan for the 26th, 3 days before due, just to see if I'm heading for another big one lol! I hope not, he doesn't seem to feel as big as dd but he is very back to back so could be all hidden. Bit scarey really thinking he might be bigger

Anyway better go put the washing on. Been putting it off for last hour!

blimey · 14/09/2008 11:37

Wow wombforonemore my DS2 has got shingles which we didn't spot at all until I took him to the docs on fri and they diagnosed it - I hope you are nowhere near Bromley - I think we may have triggered a mini outbreak!

constipation - deffo drink loads and you can up the lactulose to 20mls 4 times a day.
Have you tried prune juice as well? I am stocking that up for post CS.

It is MY BIRTHDAY today so special thoughts to any babies who arrive today from me. Excellent excuse to eat cakes, croissants etc.
Had a fab start today playing air guitar to kaiser chiefs with my 3 year old who is destined to be a rock god, until weird groin pains kicked in, then had to spectate only...

notsoslimnow · 14/09/2008 11:39

morning all, congrats mumiyumi, lovely story too! does anyone know how much weight baby gains per week after 30 weeks? is it .5 lb???
