Evening all!
MissusH my folks are on holiday too - due back on my due date (28th). I've done a list of who needs to phone who when the baby is born so mum told me to email it to my brother as he'll have to do the phoning if parents are still awol when the LO arrives. But brother has just replied to say he and new girlfriend will be in Cornwall all next week and he won't phone USA (where Aunt and cousin are) on his mobile. So thank you family. Croatia and Cornwall. I'm in York. Its only my baby being born afterall, nothing important! And both of dh's parents work down south, so won't be coming to visit til the first weekend after the birth. Good thing I have very supportive friends up here to look after dd...and me and dh!
Got my 39wk appt with midwife tomorrow. I'm worried my baby is either breech, transverse, or has two heads, as it changes position a lot and I can often feel two large round hard lumps under my ribs, rather than just the one that is the bum.

Still totally chogged up with green snot, can't sleep for coughing and coz of sinus pain. Will this ever pass? I made two children cry today when I blew my nose Have been naughty and had some beechams hot lemon, but I'm getting to the stage of not being able to breath.

Congrats to annvan, off to read the story now, I love birth announcements!

MelT76 · 18/09/2008 19:47

Hi all.... sorry no baby. Spent 4 hrs at the hospital. BP 3 times, still high, baby monitored, fine. Bloods done twice as she couldn't get enough first time Internal and sweep while he was there!!! Doc felt babies head tho and said he was on his way. Hopefully not much longer now. Had cramps ever since.

Here's hoping I get a good nights sleep.

foxytocin · 18/09/2008 20:18

mamamuffin If they were insisting on Induction, say you would like to see the evidence that your placenta really is 'disintegrating'.

I do not know how often they would do a doppler of the placenta but but if i were in your shoes, I would probably consent to the first one at 41 wks then at say 41+4, then at 42. then if it pleases them, every day thereafter. At 42, I may consent to a vaginal examination and only at around then would I consider a sweep if you can't get ahold of dh's natural prostaglandins first.

I would also ask them if there are any other diagnostic methods they use to assess the function of the placenta. (or rather, I would go to one of the yahoo groups i belong to or give a MN shout for Lulumama, Mears et al to give me more inside info.)

Even according to the WHO, which is a very conservative body, states that a normal human pg is 37 -42 wks so to me that acknowledges that placentas don't just start to fall apart or whatever after 40 wks.

tmi alert don't read if squeamish
OK - I have gross question
I've been having lots of discharge the last few days, even feels like trickling out - when it emerges it's just white and thin, but I have loads, constantly feel damp, and when it builds up in pants then it's thick and slightly green, doesn't smell or anything. is this normal? Should I be worried? I'm not itchy or anything, otherwise I'd wonder if it was thrush. Can you have thrush without an itch? I've only had that once and it was unbearable. Don't want to ignore it if it could be an infection of some kind, but neither do I fancy a trip to the dr for nothing. Though I could combine it with telling them I'm still coughing 4.5 weeks now and vomiting with it at least once a day - certainly sympathise with you Mamamufin

carrieon · 18/09/2008 21:10

splish I feel constantly damp too, much like you describe. I'm showering far more often to feel a little fresher! I don't think its anything, but it doesn't hurt to get it checked out, in any case I really think you need to get that cough taken seriously by a doc!

lizzyleek · 18/09/2008 21:25

pidge Thank you for the welcome!

munkimom I really hope there is not much longer just want to meet him now! and i agree 100% with the mattress yes please lol

mum2bagain I had nothing yet no show or anything a bit of backache and bh but nothing else! just he would give me a little sign he wants to say hi soon, i really don't want to be induced again!

leonieD well it gave me a much needed giggle thank you and being frank is the best way to be!!

my 5yr old keeps asking when his lil brother is coming and now my partner is stressing because he won't be able to go out for his birthday and there's defo no chance of loveing because he is scared of my waters breaking i said you can't have your cake and eat it!!!

carrieon · 18/09/2008 21:41

ROFL at everyone's descriptions of trying to induce labour with dh/p's help...I've given up trying, it hurt too much, I'm impressed at all your stamina!

mum2bagain · 18/09/2008 21:46

I'm really stressed. I don't think this baby is ready to come out any time soon. The thing is, my MIL is flying over from the states on 30th Sept, I'm due on Mon and I really really wanted some time alone as a family without having someone else living with us for the first 2 weeks of LO's life. My own mother lives very close by and will want to help out all she can, taking my other 2 little ones to school and generally making sure we're all sorted out, which I do appreciate. I just think that having both mums wanting to do everything will clash and I'm going to end up blowing a gasket. I didn't imagine I would feel this way as I thought I'd have had baby by now and had the first couple of weeks to myself. Sorry rant over.

splishsplosh · 18/09/2008 21:50

Carrieon - I'm glad it's not just me, but I'll probably get it checked out just to be on the safe side

Lizzyleek hello and welcome to the labour symptom spotters!

Not looking forward to tomorrow, it's dd's 4th morning at pre school (she's going 2 mornings a week) and on Tuesday she didn't want to go, didn't want me to leave and was sobbing dramatically when i left her On the plus side, she had a follow up appointment with a paediatrician today because of her birth probs - cerebral haemorrhage and seizures - so they wanted to make sure her development was OK & she's actually about a year ahead of what she should be achieving, so I'm feeling a proud mummy today

carrieon · 18/09/2008 22:03

Well done mini-splish for being super advanced, hooray!

MunkiMom · 18/09/2008 22:04

no stamina here, carrieon! up til a couple weeks ago, i was all crazy hornball. but wow, did that EVER plummet!!

leonie where in the states are you from?

i can't remember who mentioned it, but thanks for reminding me that other threads and topics do exsist! i'll search for the vbac thread. thanks again!

as far as family being here to help, I WISH!!
everyone on my side are "home" are in the states...dh's family are about an hour away and already have their own lives to get on with...so i'll be relying on dh for ALOT! i hope he is ready! hehehehe

LeonieD shouldn't you be getting into the sexy underwear by now Good luck in persuading your DH

Pidge was it you who said you're not ready for the baby to come yet. I know exactly what you mean, I started Mat leave yesterday, it was sunny today and I want another week of this rest! I feel better than I have for ages.

Welcome Lizzileek you do realise this thread is addictive. Especially as we've got a couple of AWOL people who could be holding their LO's at this very moment

blimey · 18/09/2008 22:51

MelT glad you are ok, sorry it took so long, but sounds like the sweep may do the trick?

Leonie good luck with the old man tonight!

Mama I can understand you not liking the sound of garlic but it is antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral so could kill whatever is causing the cough; codeine linctus will just suppress the cough which stops the cough doing its job of getting rid of gunk caused by bugs. I hope it helps you get some rest though. I hate having coughs.

mum2be just think of all the help!! could you hole up in your bedroom with baby and let the mums do all the housework?!?

lizzieleek welcome!

splish great news on your daughter!!!
