Have you got any popcorn ninja?

DebitheScot · 15/09/2008 21:32

who will be first to post an announcement? Biglips or lollipop? I've had a crap day so need some nice news to cheer me up (1st day on my own, hormonal, tired and tearful, sore nipples and ds1 playing up coz he was tired).

ellideb · 15/09/2008 21:39

With the 'contraction timer' do I finish the timing when the uncomfortable feeling has finished or when the tightness has gone because the discomfort stops sooner then the tightness.?

Pidge · 15/09/2008 21:40

Thanks for all the birthday greetings folks. Dp cooked me delicious chicken risotto this evening. What a superstar. Now I just need to return the favour and rustle up something nice for his birthday supper tomorrow evening!

JennyL - somehow over supper, in my glow of affection for dp and his lovely birthday cooking efforts, I said I might be prepared to go to Ikea now that I'm on my maternity leave to get the missing kitchen bits! What have I done? Dp did offer to go but it would probably have to be after work on Friday evening. Whereas I have 3 days this week with both kids in childcare ... no excuse really ... gulp.

On the baking front - the girls and I rustled up a lovely looking madeira cake for dp's birthday. No knitting for me today though, I was just too tired this evening. Speaking of which ... I hear the duvet calling.

Good luck to those of you waiting for more imminent baby action than me!

ninja · 15/09/2008 21:43

Half way through the popcorn (admittedly it was left over from DD going to the cinema yesterday) but no more news?

cranmorefifi · 15/09/2008 21:43

I think when they're for real it might be more cut and dried - you'll know when they're starting and stopping hurting (that's what I remember from last time). But I'm doing it from the discomfort this time (just for fun) ...

Good luck biglips!

ellideb · 15/09/2008 21:48

Just taking the timings. I phoned my doula and she said it definatley sounds more than just BH's so she is going to have an early night tonight incase she is woken at 3 in the morning!

sunflower78 · 15/09/2008 21:50

Hi all, haven't had time to log in for a couple of days, but it looks as if there are some new babies, so congratulations to all (limited time so haven't read all 10 pages, but just wanted to pop in and see how you're all doing...) nearly time to get on with next feed, and it seems I've just sat down! anyway, good luck to all of you with twinges!

sagecat · 15/09/2008 21:51

It seems to be all go this evening, Maybe that full moon is kicking in

My pregnancy appears to be regressing rather than progressing. After months of daily BH i've had none for about 3 days Although have been a bit more emotional, have puffy ankles and been feeling a bit light-headed and dizzy! Any suggestions?

Best of luck everyone out there playing with the contraction timer.

ninja · 15/09/2008 21:55

ellideb - you should probably have an early night too.

Well I've finished off the popcorn and I'm off to bed - where is biglips? I've got my finger's crossed!

notcitrus · 15/09/2008 22:12

Hello! Finally home this evening.

Baby Adam born 3pm Friday 12th (one day early), 7 lb 8 (3.42 kg), and rather good looking if I say so myself.

Had show and minor contracting 11pm Weds, contractions started 4am, waters broke 6/7am, went for assessment and was admitted to MLU 11am. The MLU was fantastic and I sort of enjoyed myself in the pool and on a beanbag with lots of gas/air and TENS for the next 6 hours. Unfortunately I was so relaxed that my cervix stayed at 4-5cm throughout. I wangled an extra 2 hours and nothing continued to happen, except that my SPD had got much worse once in labour and I couldn't sit or lie down without screaming.

So went for epidural and syntocin to speed up dilation. Epidural at 6pm wonderful; took until noon Fri to dilate though. At which point there was meconium and it had been 36 hours since waters breaking - and pushing did nothing except waggle the monitor wire about. So planned to try a ventouse but resigning myself to a cesarian.

Got prepped in theatre, ventouse attached, and to everyone's amazement he went from unmoved to head out in one contraction. Three more and he was out!!!

Minor blip as he decided to scare us in Recovery by momentarily going blue, hence him being routinely tested for lots of stuff and put on antibiotics so we had to stay in 3 days, although as soon as he was returned to us after 30 min we were assured he seemed totally fine. He's fine.

All the delivery staff (about 50!) I met were lovely, and they'd all clearly read my 1-page birth plan, particularly the bit saying "Happy for students to be present/involved - unless I need cutting or stitches in which case I want an expert!" - I was assured this would be the case and I've had several midwives complement me on how neat it is!

SPD now thankfully declining - the first night was not fun - and I'm feeling a lot better than I expected in all the bits involved in the birth. Since yesterday morning I've hardly felt it at all!

MunkiMom · 15/09/2008 22:12

sage i was just about to make a comment about that as well...

i suspect the full moon is putting some of us in the labour ward tonight!

good luck gals!!!!

cranmorefifi · 15/09/2008 22:30

congratulations notcitrus and good luck elliedeb. Get lots of sleep!

wohoo!

MunkiMom · 15/09/2008 22:45

congrats to you, notcitrus!!
hope you have lots of lovely cuddles with your wee one!!!

blimey · 15/09/2008 23:41

congrats notcitrus
good luck elliedeb and biglips - any more full moon labourers out there?

hopefully if you did cut out the sweet stuff for a day and nothing changed then you would know it was ok I guess.

OP posts:
sagecat · 15/09/2008 23:45

Well done notcitrus congratulations on the arrival of Adam, I'm glad you are all home and in one piece

Well finally finished decorating DD new bedroom. Tomorrow night is putting together a rather complicatied looking bed for her and washing the new bedding. We aimed for getting her into her new room when i was 34weeks preg - now i'm 38 weeks - just a smidge over schedule then

ellideb · 16/09/2008 01:49

Congratulations notcitrus and baby Adam, welcome to the world! What a nice weight!

Well I'm burning the midnight oil! I had a couple of hours of uninterupted sleep then woke up at 1 am to go to the loo and the 'tightenings' started up again, a little bit ouchy so I've decided to get up and make myself some toast and get the TENS just in case but I'm a bit reluctant to wake DP to put it on me so I think I'll just wait for a bit and have a play around with the timer. The ouchyness seems better when I'm not lying down anyway. Hope you are doing ok biglips?

Wonder if there is anyone up?

ninja · 16/09/2008 02:40

Hi ellideb, I'm up (but you might be back to bed by now) I too have had 3 hours sleep, but now I can't get back. Hope it really is the start of something.

Congratulations notcitrus I was SURE you were in labour last time that you posted. Well done for getting Adam out without the CS. Sounds like you had a scary time but glad you're back safely

I'm hoping no news is good news for biglips

ellideb · 16/09/2008 02:49

Nope, still not in bed! Are you getting twinges ninja?

ellideb · 16/09/2008 02:57

I might as well update the list, although I'm sure there may be a new arrival by the time the rest of you wake up! P.S I hope I have done it right, my eyes are a bit blurry this time of morning!

No twinges - just not very good at sleeping and I'm a bit worried about DD at school - think I might go and seek opinion about that. I think I'm probably just being hormonally emotional about my pfb.

Have you been doing the contraction counter again?

foxytocin · 16/09/2008 03:06

sigh still here waiting with no symptoms so feeling a bit left out of the discussion.

congrats NC and everyone else who has graduated.

ellideb · 16/09/2008 03:11
