DS1 has named ours Pingu.

herbgarden · 13/09/2008 17:13

Hi everyone and welcome Mirry.

I've spent all day packing boxes to move this week. Took us a couple of hours to do the kitchen etc....it is so knackering and my sciatic nerve is making me v.uncomfortable - anyone got any tips on how to ease the pain/discomfort??

My mum took ds today so that we could get on so I've finally sat down and am watching this weeks desperate housewives whilst dh has gone off to play some golf. I could do with a zzzzzzzzzzzz , but woke at 12.30 last night and didn't manage to go back off til 4am. DS woke at 6am so not a great night for me !. Hoping maybe I'll sleep better tonight

On the names, I love Milo and wouldn't have thought of Carla but think it's a really pretty name. I liked the name Seth too - not sure if dh would like it and as ds's name begins with an "S" it might be a bit weird if we had two boys with "s" names.... I'm going to write a list soon so dh and I can decide..

Sympathies with the rants over your dh's/dp's. I had a rant a few days ago too......

TinkerBellesMum · 13/09/2008 17:15

There was a thread recently about what your LO would be called if the older child had their say.

Actually Tinker Belle is what my niece wanted to call Tink when she first heard the name Isobel and it's stuck.

TinkerBellesMum · 13/09/2008 17:17

Herb, sit on a pillow or cushion, keep your hips above your knees. It's the first thing the physio did when I went to PGP class.

thehouseofmirth · 13/09/2008 18:32

Well, according to DS our baby's going to be called Father Christmas! Though if DH doesn't stop vetoing all my suggestions we might have to go with that...

I am sooo tired today I can hardly keep my eyes open but as there's no prospect of a rest I'll pretend I'm not. I was thinking how lovely it would be to sit on the sofa with a huge glass of wine and a plate of parma ham whilst watching something nice on the telly but every element of that is sheer fantasy!

mrsy · 13/09/2008 19:17

rosie - i take it you mean the tweenies won't be around long, as apposed to your family members....? i know what you mean about the association thing though. i love caspar for a boy, but john said all he'd think about was the friendly ghost, and felix was vetoed for being cat food... i tried to point out to john that if we have a son called felix and someone said 'where's felix?', he wouldn't point to the cat food cupboard and say 'in there'...but he didn't agree!!!

PinkTulips · 13/09/2008 19:28

well seeing as ds named the black and white cat 'blue' i'm not even sure i should go down the road of asking him, lol.

and dd is useless at naming things (like her mommy!) she just uses the name of someone at playschool she likes so all her teddies have very normal names like sophie and carmel and nicole, pmsl

MarkStretch · 13/09/2008 19:30

I feel a bit better now.

Went out for the day with dd and had a nice day. Then did some hormonal crying at DH and got some stuff sorted.

Before when I was a single parent, I was always very independent and knew I could look after and provide for dd and I no matter what.

In the last year I have married DH, bought a house with him and now we are having a baby and in the last few days the enormity of it all has hit me. I am now completely financially and emotionally dependent on him and if anything were to go wrong (which I very much doubt) the consequences would be catastrophic.

Scary stuff.

spottyshoes · 13/09/2008 19:44

Welcome Mirry, how's your pregnancy treating you?

Hang from a door frame Herb. Or something similar. It stretches you out and releases the pressure on your sciatic nerve.

Ohhh the big baby name debate. We have no boys names so this one is definately going to be a boy!

Glad you have had a better day MS.

I'm having Chinese and a small glass of wine whilst watching a DVD in a minute, lil bro has gone to get it all - Oh how I have missed our girly nights in (we are watching PS I Love You!!!)

Have a good night everyone

TinkerBellesMum · 13/09/2008 19:56

I just thought I'd say, as a 01/02 expectant, I'm half way (to term at least) tomorrow! That means in the next four weeks we will all be crossed over into the second half and some of us heading rapidly towards viable! Has it gone quickly for anyone else?

thehouseofmirth, compromise Nicolas or Nicola!

Maybe we should do a thread on FB, we'll all ask our LO's what name we should give their new little sibling and then compare notes?

Welcome to our new member too, I forgot before Please come and join us over on FaceBook.

swampster · 13/09/2008 19:58

I have been asleep all afternoon.

Think I'll go to bed soon.

swampster · 13/09/2008 20:00

pssssssst, Mirry, over here!

PinkTulips · 13/09/2008 20:19

well i asked ds when i was tucking in and apparently the baby is named 'Baby Jaguar' .... which i should have guessed really as he's been shouting 'baby jaguar' at the bump alot but i thought he was pretending to be baby jaguar himself, not that he thinks there's a baby jaguar in there silly mommy

(btw, for those of you who joyfully don't have to suffer through kids tv, baby jaguar is diego's little sidekick in 'Go, Diego, Go!' )

i asked dd and got the response i expected 'uuuummmmmmmm, i dunno'

MarkStretch · 13/09/2008 20:27

DD says Agatha for a girl (which I LOVE but DH hates)

And Finley for a boy (which I like too but it was one of my choices for dd if she was a boy so would feel weird using it)

OP posts:
MamaGoose · 13/09/2008 20:50

Oh god, has anyone else seen that news story on alcohol and pregnancy on the BBC website today!? It's all about fetal alcohol syndrome, how you shouldn't drink anything and how alcohol can damage their nervous system, balance, brain, and even affect the baby's facial features if you drink when their face is being formed. It just makes it sound so awful and catastrophic. I definitely got drunk three times in the first two weeks past conception because I didn't know I was pregnant (we were one hit wonders on our way to a flippin funeral !) but admittedly I've had the odd sip of wine with dinner since. I feel like the worst mother-to-be in the world, like I've ruined my poor child's life chances before they're even out! I do wish the advice could be a bit more measured. They tell us one thing, then another. I'm sure the advice has changed in all three of my pregnancies now!!

thehouseofmirth · 13/09/2008 20:51

OOh Agatha's nice. Never would have thought of it myself(and obviously won't steal it) but it's actually very elegant, isn't it?

TinkerBellesMum · 13/09/2008 20:59

MamaGoose, I'm afraid alcohol is one of the areas I'm not with science on. Don't get me wrong, I know FAS exists, but women have been drinking through pregnancy for millennia, alcohol was how water was purified so it was safer to drink alcohol than water. Even today there are countries that think drinking is good for the baby (I remember an Italian friend telling me I wasn't drinking enough!)

I don't think we would have survived as a species if it was so dangerous to drink any amount of alcohol.

dinkymum · 13/09/2008 21:00

Hiya,
I never know when to jump in on these threads! just rubbish really lol keep trying to keep up but by the time the days done and DD's in bed I usually cant think of anything to say!

I like the name talk, DH wont discuss it until after the scan as we plan to try and find what we're having and therefore he says 50% of the effort will be wasted! grrr men! I actually dont know if its hormones or if hes being particularly annoying tonight but... yeah. sorry was about to rant then. lol.
Anyway scans on the 6th October so not too much longer!

Just wondered if anyone minded if I updated the list to put me on it? I know I dont post much and im sorry but would like to be involved if ok?

Hope everyones ok!

Tink - I know, I agree. I live in Spain where it's normal to drink and smoke in pregnancy! But I wish articles like the BBC one could reflect the fact that there is so much mixed evidence on this one and be a bit more balanced!! It's a bit scaremongering/guilt making. Rant over. I will say no more.
