Aw dinkymum, netmums-style [hugs] coming your way!

Definitely take the day off tomorrow if you can and get some rest. Make sure you're eating well and drinking enough (and I mean water, of course, not G&Ts and fruitshoots).

I'm about a week ahead of you and feel like I'm just turning the corner, enjoying getting out and about, not YELLING at my kids (so much).

But I am still enjoying MN and FB more than RL .

You WILL feel better soon, and that is a promise.

dinkymum · 16/09/2008 21:31

sorry really sorry about my rant thing i was just having another moment and happened to be on here! Sorry!

swampster · 16/09/2008 21:32

That's what we're here for. And the curry...

chilledmama · 16/09/2008 21:36

somebody ranting on MN...NEVER

dinkymum · 16/09/2008 21:53

Thank you!

nadssss · 17/09/2008 08:20

Odd question but would anyone like two pairs of these (for free and never worn, obviously!)? I bought them but the fit is wrong on me and they are too see-through for my tastes (despite being 60 denier)?let me know and I will send them wherever

nadssss · 17/09/2008 08:21

meant to say, in a size 3!

TinkerBellesMum · 17/09/2008 08:30

Have I started something with curry now? I'm still desperate for one and the lettuce and mint sauce!

PinkTulips · 17/09/2008 10:34

my god..... the whole appointment was done by [whisper] a doctor

and i saw the consultant and he was lovely! they've booked me in for another scan in 3 weeks to triple check the spine for SB (my uncle has it and ds was born with a dimple) and yet another scan at 32 weeks to make sure the placenta has shifted out of the way. i'm also apparently having a GTT at 28 weeks due to my grandfather having type 2 diabetes in later years. they gave me a physio referral about my back too!

i'm so pleased, my last hospital were an absolute joke when it came to all this stuff so it's a whole new experiance feeling like they're actually listening when i talk and are willing to actually do tests to make sure everything is ok. there i used have to wait an hour for a cranky mw to check my BP, another hour for someone to take blood, another hour to see a doctor who'd spend 20 seconds examining me and answer every concern with 'well that's because it's your first/not your first preg'. and i had to force them to double check the placenta with ds and never got a proper anomoly scan!

will read through now quickly before i head back out to get dd and her friend from playschool. it's a lovely day here for a change, sun is beaming down.

america · 17/09/2008 10:51

I was crying last weekend because DS is already big enough to eat sandwiches by himself (he's 16 months) DH thinks I'm raving mad So you are not alone chilledmama!

Hope that work is better Dinky!

PinkTulips · 17/09/2008 10:57

chilled, did you see that bodyshock last night on c4 about the girl with 2 faces? you think it's sad that western women ff, my boobs were throbbing in horror watching them ff a aby with bottles the father had rinsed and wiped with his fingers under a communal tap they were poorer than poor, a whole family of 20+ living in a tiny house in india with barely money to feed themselves and yet they were ff-ing. the formula companies have so much to answer for encouraging people in those situations to ff when they don't even have clean water. the doctor had to tell the mother to hold the bottle upright fgs as she was just giving the baby air half the time!

on a similar vein, i almost snatched a womans 3 month old up and fed him myself last week i was so hormonal and upset at seeing her 4 year olf feed him a bottle in his carseat while she sat on her arse and chatted to her mates. the poor baby didn't even have the teat in his mouth half the time and when he did it was tilted so far down he wasn't getting anything, he was getting so upset and she completely ignored what was going on. worst thing is she's a middle class, well off woman with 4 kids who should know better. you'd expect that behaviour from an uneducated teenager but a grown woman?! why have kids if their too much hassle to even bother feeding.

sorry, mad lentilly lactivist rant over now

TinkerBellesMum · 17/09/2008 13:08

My favourite one is those supposedly realistic bottles (supposed to be the same as using a breast ) and you see them feeding a baby in a pushchair while they sit at a table and chat. I just don't get the point of going to the effort of buying special bottles and then not putting any effort into feeding.

I didn't know they'd been a programme about that little girl, I'll have to try and get it on repeat.

KazzaL · 17/09/2008 13:30

As someone who struggled to BF feed first time round - I'm determined to get it right this time, but get cross when people dismiss FF without finding out why the mother is using it - admittedly a lot of the time it is cos the mother hasn't had enough support etc and views FF as easier.

I got shingles on my first day home with DS so felt sh*t for the first week or so on top of normal post birth stuff. I'd also spent 4 nights in hosp as they kept me from before my labour really kicked in after waters broke and then due to the length of time that passed till DS was born he had to have antibiotics for 3 days. So I was knakcered from 4 nights on noisy wards (gonna pay for private room this time, if it looks like I;m going to be in for more than a few hours)

No help with BF in hosp apart from to feed him more often.

Got masititis when got home too so was on antibiotics for that and the anti-viarls for shingles.

Despite calling the MW out a couple of times in the middle of the night when both nipples were bleeding and DS was puking - finally got told by MW at about 10day that my milk was probably duff (now know this is pretty much impossible) and as DS had lost over a lb, he needed formula top-ups whihc we did - f-t parents doing what they are told. But then once we started we couldn't get him off them.

I've since had a good debrief with a family friend who has written books about BF and I feel so much better about it, but I'm still worried about this time and feel I let DS down by not perservering although he did have a least 2 BF a day till he got teeth at about 5.5 mths, but everytime he is ill now I feel it is my fault...........

oooggs · 17/09/2008 13:38

haven't caught up yet, but I intend to b/f this time. with ds1 and as first timers things were not helped by the hospital (tube fed for a while) or by the health visitor so I gave up

dts fed well but I couldn't managed both of them and ds1

this time it will work

also am not ignoring any of you just have trouble accepting friends on fb

catstar · 17/09/2008 13:53

Hello Ladies - can I join you? I am due on 18 February with baby no. 2. I have a gorgeous DD who was born in July 2007 and can't wait to give her a little brother or sister .

There seems to be loads of chat on here and I haven't read the whole thread, but hello everyone . I don't seem to get the chance to get on MN much but will try to make more of an effort at work .

How is everyone feeling? I'm 18 weeks and just starting to come out of the sickness but can't remember what it's like not to feel tired!

Anyway, back to work now. Have tried to add myself to the stats so hope this works:

KazzaL, i don't really care why people chose to ff, it's their choice. i was digusted with this woman for letting her 4 year old feed her baby so she could sit back with a cuppa and chat, and for the record she stopped bfing so she could go away for the wekend and leave the baby with her sil at 7 weeks old after claiming up til that point 'i really can't be bothered with it so i give bottles when i'm not in the mood'

i've never seeen a stanger ff and presumed she was doing it because she couldn't be bothered or didn't even try bf-ing. i really couldn't care less for the most part. i only judge those i know (joking before i get a virtual beating!)

What PT said

I know I'm really behind on the topics here (gave myself a sick day yesterday as I was SO tired, decided they could do without me for a day and that me and my unborn needed some rest) but thanks to everyone for the classes info. On the basis of everything you've all said I'm going to do NCT and the non-NCT ones in the hope that I'll get some useful info, but mainly to meet some other local mums.

Is it possible to have Braxton Hicks at 20 weeks? If so, ouch.

Oh yes it is I've been having them too.

PinkTulips · 17/09/2008 20:15

have been having them since 18 weeks... they shoudn't hurt though MS. Bhs are like someone has wrapped a sheet around your bump and is pulling it tight behind you, if they hurt you need to keep an eye on them, if they hurt alot you need to get to hospital asap [they need a worried emoticon]

MarkStretch · 17/09/2008 20:20

It's ok PT, they don't hurt, it's just uncomfortable when my bump contracts and I'm sitting weirdly or something. It's more the streeeeettching that feels odd.

Thanks for worrying about me though

phew... you had me all paniced there!

but yes, they are bloody awful at times. towards the end with my other two i constantly had poor dp in a state having to lean on a chair or table and breathe through them as they really make you feel like your being squeezed round the middle.

MarkStretch · 17/09/2008 20:40

Yes I remember them from last time around, they get really strong towards the end don't they! I was just surprised to feel them so early this time.

We had DSD round today after school and apparently she has been quite upset recently as she feels like she's going to get pushed out when the new baby arrives and that she's not going to be a 'proper' sister as she won't be here all the time. It's tricky to know what to do.

We decided that we would take both the girls out for tea next week after the 20 week scan and tell them together if they are having a brother or sister and DH said he would bring them together to the hospital when he/she is born.

Am trying to think of other ways she can be more included....

I did think about allowing both girls to choose the baby's middle name (under our guidance of course).
