My DSS's choose Tink's name, from our shortlist of course and I'm glad to say choose the right one! They still bring it up now. We let them do as much as possible for her, we bought them a frame with "World's Best Sister" on before she was born and put scan pics in it. We use brother/ sister as much as possible.

MarkStretch · 17/09/2008 21:12

I have bought one of those baby record books too so they can fill in all the 'firsts' and stick the scan pictures in.

I told DH that we would try and involve her as much as possible but unfortunately it won't change the fact that she doesn't live with us and she will see less of the baby

They called her Biscuit? Aww so sweet!

MS, my DSS's live in London and we're in Birmingham, we get down there 4/5 times a year. They're all very close. It's easy as the parent to manipulate the relationship between half siblings either to push them apart (as so often happens) or to bring them together. I think a lot of it is in our power, especially as step-parents, to bring our children together. I'm sure that things will work out, just give her every opportunity to be the big sister just as much as if she were a full sister rather than half.

Hello everyone, am due with number 1 one 19th Feb, and wondering if anyone lives in/ around Marylebone, can't seem to find any NCT action or similar around here?

welcome catstar & snoop - hope all going well

seeing the midwife this afternoon for a routine apt.

nothing to report - didn't realise it would be so hard being pregnant and running around after 3 children (two who are still so little)

MarkStretch · 18/09/2008 12:13

Anyone else eating everything in sight?

MarkStretch · 18/09/2008 12:19

By the way there is a definite link between the amount of custard creams I eat and the amount my baby moves....

KazzaL · 18/09/2008 12:33

Tink - just been reading the getting your toddler to sleep thread as DS isn't sleeping again, we given him meds to help him sleep so don't feel bad, you were rather told-off on there - he was prescribed firstly piriton to help him sleep and then vallergan (which is a pre-med they use in hosp) and whilst they were very effective to start with, the effect quickly diminished after a few nights, but mostly it's enough to get him back into the routine. We've tried more blankets, less blankets, nightlights, more outside running around during the day, lavendar on the bed sheets, bigger thicker nappies, even using disposables to see if that helped.

DS's problem is staying asleep (he has acid reflux, so he's in pain from the acid I tihnk) and so the sleep meds don't really help him - calpol does though, but after the stuff on the news today about a link between calpol & asthma, now worried about that

KazzaL · 18/09/2008 12:35

choclate (big bars), haribo (whole bags), costa hot choc with all the trimmings and OJ all get my bump wriggling - although not as much as DS at this point - hoping it means I have a dainty girl in there this time

KazzaL · 18/09/2008 12:37

I'm so bored at work every day, that I've barely eaten my breakfast before I raiding the snack bar or thinking of a reasosn to go over to waitrose for chocolate

nadssss · 18/09/2008 12:37

The curry-craving is so out of control for me as well ? the thought of a lamb madras etc and bombay potatoes is just too good ? but I am trying to cut down on takeaways slightly!

I am definitely eating everything in sight ? carbs and sweet things especially. Not quite as bad as the first 12 weeks but not great. But I have also decided to enjoy 9 months + breastfeeding (hopefully) of guilt-free eating.

Still no movement or kicks (am nearly 20 weeks) which is making me a bit despondent. Any specific drinks/food I should try to get things going? I don?t think I can face Lucozade?

nadssss · 18/09/2008 12:47

Kazzal ? I know ? the costa coffee and their chocolate twist ? amazing. And the big Eat bacon sandwiches!

Questionkid · 18/09/2008 13:27

I discovered Costa hot chocolate recently and I can't get enough of it! It's so good. It's better than any others I've tried as it's not too sweet.

I also want to eat everything in sight, and it's obviously a bit of a theme for the ladies on here, I can't get enough curry. Yum. And chocolate, and ice cream, and marmite on toast. Random. Got to watch myself though, I'm already on the generous side size-wise, I'm going to end up looking like the side of a house.

Food in general seems to get my LO moving.

mrsy · 18/09/2008 13:57

To all the step-mums here, I can speak as a half-sister from the second marriage. My brother is 42 and my sisters are 40 and 26, and I'm 24.

I have ALWAYS said I have a brother and two sisters and although I speak to my youger-older sister more often, I'm really close to all three of them. My nephews and neices have aunts and uncles - steps and halfs really don't come into it. The issue is more the age difference than anything else, and it doesn't come up often unless they're talking about pre-me music/tv!

On the positive side, my sister and I used to row all the time (and still often do) as we were on top of each other. They say absence makes the heart grow stronger and it applies to siblings too - we both ADORED our big brother and sister and used to fight over who got to hold their hands/sit next to them etc. Whenever they came to stay we were so excited to see them. You may find the same true in your family in about 5/6 years time!

PinkTulips · 18/09/2008 16:27

brrrrrr... anyone else freezing slowely to death?

sadly the weird overheating thing that i had with dd that caused me to have all the doors and windows open in midwinter doesn't seem to have kicked in this time and i feel like an ice cube.

am having indian of you lot... there is no indian within miles and miles and miles of us poor country bumpkins and i do miss it i can't really make most indian curries as dd is cow's milk intolerant and i can't find plain goats yogurt for love nor money. need to find a few recipes that have no bad stuff in them. although making it yourself is never the same is it.... most of the fun is having it handed to you perfectly prepared without having to put in any effort!

consoled myself with samosa and bhajis last night but it only made the craving worse

lardybump · 18/09/2008 16:30

Evening everyone. Sorry I have been away for a while but have been so busy at work!! Roll on Maternity time... Hope everyone is well. onwardandupward · 18/09/2008 17:30

lol at markstretch's custard-cream appreciating foetus. Lovely!

I'm munching everything in sight, which is why I am taking great care to keep my fridge stocked with salad, yoghurt, cold meat and NOTHING ELSE

polishes halosneaks off for a quick chicken bhuna

Guitargirl · 18/09/2008 17:40

I had curry last night - chicken chilli masala - it was very nice. We gave DD some dahl but she wasn't impressed, she loved the poppadom though.

I had 20 week scan yesterday, all looked well so far and we're having a boy! Quite a surprise as everyone reckoned we were having another girl...
