This is the thing. DS was ok, but everytime DD got in his bed for the bedtime story, she kept saying 'tedward where are you?' and we were getting a bit worried DS might start frettting, so I had to come up with a suitable excuse for his absence.
He did have a train as a transitional object for a while but he lost it in the garden, got over it fairly swiftly. He started with the train just after I first went into hospital with HG during DD's pg- it may have been a little coping mechanism for me being away etc. dunno.

ceebee74 · 17/09/2008 21:10

Dozy - how spooky - maybe they have infected each other over the internet Doctor said there is nothing you can do apart from Calpol - not really sure why that would help as I don't think DS is in pain apart from his mouth when he tries to eat or drink something. DS is also a crap eater so a los of appetite for him tends to go unnoticed

Also love Sophie - definitely one of my favoured names had baby been a girl.

MerryMarigold · 17/09/2008 21:13

MonkeyM, I am probably wrong about the boy, but just a feeling. Usually only have a feeling if I know someone really well, though, so it is highly unreliable (let's face it, I've go a 50:50 chance ). I have been trying names out on my family for ages. My Mum wouldn't allow Cosmo, or even Toby. She is fine with our boys' name which is very 'classic'. Dh likes my girl's name, is quite stuck on it. I really like it, but it is fairly unusual and has associations with someone famous that I'd prefer not to have associations with...hmmmm. It's also a bit posh for us.

Is no-one going to take Marigold?! I want it, but dh doesn't! I really love Maggie.

Dozymare · 17/09/2008 21:19

ceebee I'll blame your son shall i although having read about it online, not much I can do except calpol.......

Merry do please tell us your names!!!!!!

LackaDAISYcal · 17/09/2008 21:20

dozy..what have you been saying? I've been lurking this evening and every time I do there's another withdrawn post from you!

Pregnancy forgetfulness is awful. DS and I were watching a nature programme about chimps last night and some other primates chipped up to have a fight.....he asked me what they were called and my mind was completely blank. After looking at them for a few minutes, all that came to mind was bamboo, but I knew that wasn't quite right.....of course they were baboons but I felt like I was completely losing the plot for a minute.

loving the names MM.....unfortunately I'm not bold enough to overrule DH on his more traditional choices.

Interesting about the HFM disease. There have been a few threads recently so it looks like it's doing the rounds again. DD has been a misery guts and off her food all day and I thought she had some kind of sore in her mouth but she won't let me look in there properly. she has some little pimply spots on her chin and under her nose though, but hands and feet seem OK. Will keep an eye on her.

Not saying much today as I feel bloody awful. Been sick, have really horrible backache and uncomfortable BH contractions going on all the time and i feel like all I do is moan at the minute

PInkyminkyohnooo · 17/09/2008 21:21

MM I can't believe that you discuss this with your mother!
I'm a bit of such a relationship.

My parents have responded negativley to both my children's names when we announced them. I absolutley dread telling themn and certainly wouldn't ask them beforehand as they'd poo poo any suggestions other than their own.SOrry for rant.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 17/09/2008 21:26

poor you lacks.I am in the same boat, tbh.

I have felt crap all day. dh had to take the morning off and thankfully he was only working til 4 in the pm. I have been in bed most of the day- hence the excessive posting!!
dh thinks i have a bug of some sort.

Dozymare · 17/09/2008 21:27

pinky both my brother and I have names that were very unusual in the 70's...(although not so now in my case, DB still is quite unusual) so whenever my parents comment about any of my hippy/bohemian (in their words!) names I remind them that way back when, they were bucking the trend - they soon shut up then!!!!!

lacks I have totally outed myself 2x tonight!! Probably being paranoid but even so.......

Dozymare · 17/09/2008 21:28

pinky and lacks hope you feel better soon

ChocOrange05 · 17/09/2008 21:33

Evening all. I cannot keep up and I only checked in this morning!! DH and I had a lovely day together, he's on gardening leave and I was "working from home" so we went to Staines (massiv - can't help but say that!) as he needed to pop into his new work to drop off some papers and we had a little shop. Then we went to Mamas and Papas and they had a new teddy in which was an elephant with a tag on that says "Once upon a time, Peanut tickled me all day long" - well we call our LO peanut so we just had to buy it!!

Merry so PMA for afternoon tea, here goes:
Option 1 (my preferred choice) - I went for afternoon tea at the Cadogan and went in to labour, but there were lots of ladies with childbirth experience to help me through it, now thats a stroke of luck!
Option 2 - I missed out on afternoon tea at the Cadogan, but I had tea and cake in the comfort of my living room and no-one saw me spill crumbs all over my tummy, now thats a stroke of luck!
Also Merry - sorry not an Arsenal fan, but they aren't as bad as Chelsea. You'll probably think I'm even worse - Man United!

Saurus I bought this changing mat but I am a first timer and with baby still in my tummy I have no advice of it in use, although it does sound useful for what you want. Also this is the cheapest website to get it from.

Monkey Hmmm, Cosmo??? I'm not feeling it, maybe because I can't help but think of the magazine! I like Cecily - I am keeping my fingers crossed for a girl for you!

Ceebee hope your DS gets better soon!

Obs way TMI - you're making us all jealous!!!

OK - night all, off to watch a film with DH.

vbab78 · 17/09/2008 21:34

just trying to catch up on posts since Tuesday ...

pinky - I too put a flannel/cloth under where DS head went in the cot/moses basket just in case he was sick or anything to save changing the bottom sheet (advised by SIL).

breastpumps - I was tempted to buy one at the weekend as at Asda they have the tommee tippee closer to nature one I think you guys recommended to me on offer and cheaper than mothercare's offer price.

I didn't buy it as I thought if my plans to "try again" breastfeeding dont work, like with DS, then it would be a waste.
If breastfeeding does happen this time though I do plan to express enough for a couple of feeds at least so DH can have the bonding time too (and me get some shut eye).

prospect of labour again - Even though I didn't have a quick or relatively easy time (if there is such a thing ) with DS I feel its something you just have to get on with. I just managed one pain to the next (somehow) and trust me I am the type of person who shuts down with a headache.

Might change my mind in less than 7wks time!

prospect of new baby - Scared even as a 2nd timer as with DS being 2 I feel it has been a while. Been told that it is easier with your 2nd as you just get on with things rather than 2nd guessing yourself (or others advising) constantly (which was the majority of the battle).

With DS me and DH found the 1st 6wks beyond hard, hope the learning/remembering period doesn't last as long this time! I found the conented baby book (lent by a neighbour) to give me confidence and helpful but just as guidelines. I didn't LIVE the book.

sparkletoes - Sorry to hear baby has gone breech. However baby can still turn around. I think mine has gone from head down to across over the last couple of days. Or I have become more rounded!

breast pumps - Which is better medela or tommee tippee closer to nature?

MonkeyMargot · 17/09/2008 21:37

Thanks all for your kind comments on name choices.
Got to go to bed now - I've been playing Scrabble on Facebook and my brain is frazzled! Night!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 17/09/2008 21:52

Vbab the general consnensus seems to be the medela, but I never liked it it was too noisy and slow for my liking.
I've got the tommee tippee hand pump because
a) I can fix it to the two unused bottles I have left over from DD.
b) it was on offer and comes with a sterillizer box and
c) I like hand pumps...
Personally, in your shoes, I would wait and see. You most likeley won't want to express in the first few weeks you'll be far to busy bfeeding and you can always bob out yourself or send someone out to the supermnarket to get you one.
Asda always seems to have good offers on these things.I bought a sterilizer with bottles for half price in our asda last time around.
Ebayed it with all the other stuff afterwards as I was absolutely stopping at 2!

vbab78 · 17/09/2008 21:52

Now trying to catch up on wednesday ...

misdee - seen pic of your DD3 hand. Poor love.

obs - hope the injection worked.

heartmum - so about your bad run of luck. Sure things will work out.

MerryMarigold · 17/09/2008 22:05

oh dozy, i would tell you but...naaaaaah . You will find out when they are born since I have no choice. I have only have one choice except Eve and you know that one! At least I saw the second post you deleted .

pinky, my rel with my mother is ok but not the best, we do rub each other up the wrong way (she irritates me by saying niggly, critical things and I get angry and then she goes all hurt and withdrawn instead of just having a good, old row - which I would prefer). She and dad come here 3 days per week between them to help me out with ds, and will continue after twins, and bought us a car, and are very involved with ds, have done many nice things for our little family which makes me feel like they kind of deserve a say in the naming! (Only a veto, they know better than to make suggestions!).

Choc, I like your PMA's! I have to come just see Obs the sex goddess! (For those of you who've forgotten, remember the 4x in one afternoon!). Maybe if I sit next to her, I will catch a vibe or something. I have not had ANY sexual activity since Feb, and that is dh being as bad as me .

I am feeling smug. Just ordered my secret stork stuff! I hope it is thoughtful. I am a bit intimidated by my recipient person and have been racking my brains.

Dh has gone to bed with a 'migraine'. He says when he bends over the back of his head hurts . His is the biggest hypo on the planet [last time he had a 'migraine' it was cured by burping!]. He's had no sympathy from me. Aren't I awful? Then I suddenly think: what if it's genuine? What if it's a blood clot and he has a fit in the middle of the night and he is in the spare room and...

vbab78 · 17/09/2008 22:22

pinkali - NO NAME YET?! I find it bizarre. Dont worry about your baby's birth or anything. Things will be fine and work out. I also think like ruthosaurus that your sister is putting on a brave face. If not I think she may have a melt down at some point.

ceebee - WOW! 10lb 4. My DS was 9 4 and I thought that was big.

dozymare - Proper rice pudding ... yum, yum. My DS loves rice pudding too but his is normally from a tin!

ceebee - Sorry to hear about DS. Hope he is ok. NO idea what hand, foot and mouth is exactly but hope it goes soon. The only time DS had an infection in his hands and mouth was when he was teething and had a cold sore so the virus (herpes) went from his face to his hands (in cracks from eczema) to his open gum.

chocorange - My husband read your post about "man united" and called you a "top bird"!

SEX - Keep having nice dreams about it but in real life not happening and is definately the last thing I would think of doing if I had time (which I think upsets DH).

MerryMarigold · 17/09/2008 22:24

Just for Dozy. Names we shortlisted, but probably aren't having (who knows though?!)

Girls:
Eve
Charis (means Grace)
Edith (Edie)

Boys:
Lyndon
Elliot
Thomas
Dominic
Cosmo
Rowan

Another suggestion for MonkeyM's dh: how about Scheherazade?!! Legendary Persian queen and the storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights.

MerryMarigold · 17/09/2008 22:27

Oh, sorry ChocO, dh is ManU. Shame about Saturday's match, eh? . Chelsea are worse though. Our neighbour bought ds a Chelsea kit!!!! (knock off). I think he will have to support Westham as it's a 5 min drive from where we live and won't conflict with dh and myself.

twinklingfairy · 17/09/2008 22:33

Feb is that when we made the babies?
Yeah! I do not feel like such a horror to my poor DH. I am not aloooone.

Blimey, 4x in one afternoon? My goodness obs! On the one hand I am, of course , but on the other I think your DH/P is in for a shock when LO arrives and you start flapping him away!

I reckon it is only cos DH is being denied that he is bothered at all, if it were available he would not be so interested.
It is available, just he is never flamin' here when I want it
I am a morning person, so is DH. Only in 2 very different ways. so, when I wake up, he is never there! Either at work or out doing the car etc

vbab78 · 17/09/2008 22:37

pinky - thanks for your help on breast pumps.

telling parents proposed names - I would consider it for about a second with my mum and dad but ultimately I dont think I could deal with disappointed or dont like it faces (especially from in law family). Also keeping it between me and DH makes it (I think) even more special.

Definately got a girls name and I have my preferred boy's name that DH is gradually coming around to. Can't tell or give clues as to these 1st names but the middle names are ...

  • Boy - ... Stephen (after my dad)
  • Girl - ... Ann (after ME!)

DS is Ryan Michael (Ryan just because we liked it and wasnt 1st choice and Michael after his daddy).

twinklingfairy · 17/09/2008 22:42

Just nipped off to have a look for a decent priced widgey cushion and came across this
It looks almost comical to me, with its (lets be honest here) remote controls pocket, but I bet it would be really good. Strap yourself in and you and baby are good to go.

You would just look a little bit silly, don't you think?

Or is it just me

Craaaazy price though!

LackaDAISYcal · 17/09/2008 22:44

lol twinkling...all it needs is a little extension piece that pulls out to hold a laptop and a support that could pop up with a page marker for my book and I would be sooooooooo tempted

PInkyminkyohnooo · 17/09/2008 22:49

vbab I like using family names in the middle, too. I think it's really lovely. I may well use Ann as well, as it is my MIL middle name.

twinkling I am fairly certain mine is a valentine baby- definitely that week anyway!

Well I am from a proper man u family- ie they were my father's local team, but DH is a Man city fan, poor love. I don't really follow the football, and tbh neither does DH really. Quite relieved in a way as my dad and brother are a bit obsessed.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/09/2008 22:53

obs, if steroid injections for carpal tunnel does that to your libido......I want some . you go girl!

I suggested Valentine as a name for this baby (works for a boy or a girl) as that's when he was made . DH not convinced

and to be fair........conception wasn't until about five days later, but Pancake doesn't have quite the same ring to it!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 17/09/2008 22:53

Are you meant to walk around with it attached to yuor tummy?
