oooh starlight . The thought of being able to MN through the night feeds has cheered me up. . I wasn't on MN when DS was born, we didn't have broadband then mind you.

biglips · 26/08/2008 19:00

4 kids!!!

ill have to be on drugs permenantly!!!!

im happy with 2..........

Dp is talking about having 3......he can go and do one!!

biglips · 26/08/2008 19:03

talia.....Well done!

hopefully · 26/08/2008 19:06

Congrats Talia! Sounds like you had a v straightforward birth, hope it was as good as it sounds.

DP just made me the nicest dinner before he had to go out to meet an old friend, bless him. He even made me a banana split with raisins on for pudding! Has slightly cheered me up after my blue day.

Re size of family, I know that barring a horrendous birth I want more than 1, but beyond that I really can't think at all - apart from anything else I can't imagine us being able to afford more than a 2 bedroom place on DP's salary!

biglips · 26/08/2008 19:10

aww thats sweet Hopefully that Dp is taking great care of you

carrieon · 26/08/2008 19:13

Haven't got time to read all posts but will reply to two:

kasha I've emailed the cranial osteopath to ask for the details of her clinic as I went to her house as it was a personal referral

notsoslim re: bottlefeeding. The thing to remember is: formula powder is not sterile. Therefore you need to do one of two things:

a) add the powder to v.hot water (boiled and left in the kettle for not longer than 30mins). If you're going to store it, make sure you cool the bottles quickly (stand in a sink of stone cold water) and put in the fridge as soon as they're cold. Then re-heat as needed (of course never in the microwave )

OR

b) add the powder to cooled boiled water (can be room temp, I know a lot of people who fill their bottles with water the night before and leave them to cool on the work-top) BUT you must feed it to baby straight away coz its not sterile.

Option b is much less faff. Needless to say we went for option A last time and spent every night making feeds, remembering to boil the kettle, go to it within half an hour, put them in the fridge before bed, and take them out cold and find somewhere to warm them. Faff.

Also, if you follow the instructions, your child is screaming for food while you're making the feed, and there's a risk of scalding them (and your wrist when you test the temp!!) coz the water is straight from the kettle.

Hope that helps!

Dinner on the table, best dash...

carrieon · 26/08/2008 19:26

and another thing...you should never ever use mineral water for babies in any circumstances, even as a drink when they're a bit older, as it has all the wrong balance of minerals and salt and stuff.

And congrats to everyone who's had a baby!!! I'm feeling soooo huge and there's still 34 days to go, or so the list tells me!

izzybiz · 26/08/2008 19:29

Congrtas talia xx

I want mine NOW!!!!

carrieon · 26/08/2008 19:29

having just read back a bit, clearly I'm out of touch with the evian/volvic thing. Everything I've ever read says 'no no no!' to mineral water. Ah well!

biglips · 26/08/2008 19:37

Dp made my day today when he said that my boobs hadnt grown this time round - im a 36FF pre-pg size and atm im a 40FF. First time round i went from 36DD to 44EE...

im sssoooo happy i dont have a size M as was expecting!!

hopefully · 26/08/2008 19:41

He is very well trained Biglips . Glad your boobs haven't exploded!

mustsleep · 26/08/2008 20:12

when i had ds you were able to make 24 hours worth of feeds and store in the fridge never did him any harm but then they change things for a reason

would this work

sterilise bottles pour in half the water and seal bottle and store at room temp
when baby wants a feed add slightly cooled boiled water and then formula - therefore the water would be hot enough to sterilse the formula but the bottle would not be red hot and quicker to cool

or ....

sterlise bottles pour in half water.
when baby wants feed take another sterilised bottle add the other half of water and formula mix then pour into rest of water

sooooo faffy

mumiyumi · 26/08/2008 20:15

My goodness the babies are coming thick and fast now!!!

Congratulations sunshine on baby Effy, talia on baby Anna and thinking of you jenpet....how exciting

i want to have mine now as it's starting to be very uncomfortable now grinding in my pelvis!!

I hope someone can shed some light, saw mw last thurs when i was 36+6 and she said she didn't need to see me for 2 wks i'll then be 38+6. i thought that from 36wks you should be seen weekly or is that a thing of the past?

notcitrus · 26/08/2008 20:19

I've actually enjoyed being pregnant except for the hip pain (and given that meant I couldn't work and has enforced my taking it very easy, hasn't been all bad, either) - hormones have turned me into a very lovely-dovey thing with MrNC. We went out for a very nice slightly late anniversary lunch today, on the grounds that getting out to expensive restaurants for leisurely meals isn't going to be easy for a good while!

I've been thinking I wanted to stay pregnant and certainly not give birth at all early (cos, you know, OMG BABY to look after for EVER!!!), but over the last week the balance has tipped to wanting to meet Squirmy and get my pelvis back. Basically any birthday in September will do nicely.

I'd like another one or two but not sure how I'd cope with the tiredness again while raising a child. I did at least reassure MrNC when that programme was on the telly about women with 11 to 15 kids each, that I so wasn't going to be one of them!

Just met 8 local Mumsnetters - I'm going to give birth first so some of them were talking like I was some kind of pregnancy guru... most wierd!

mamamufin · 26/08/2008 20:20

Gosh lots to catch up on a shiny new thread. Lollyheart had to direct me here as I got lost.

mumiyumi · 26/08/2008 20:21

this formula feeds malarky.... It is alot of faffing around i was like you mustsleep with my ds i made 24hrs worth feeds and stored in the fridge and he's fine. I think i'm just gonna do the same again this time round. unless i get bullied by the hv after the birth to do it different...bit of a wimp you see

Walkthedinosaur · 26/08/2008 20:23

JENPET ARRIVAL

Jenni gave birth to Samuel at 8.15 tonight, don't know how big he was because they hadn't got round to weighing him when her DH phoned.

Apparently Jenni was a star and the French midwives were really impressed with her.

Because the French like new mums to stay in hospital for a little while she's going to be in hospital for about 4 days, but I'm sure she'll be mumsnetting by the weekend with all the details.

Congratulations to Talia and Jenpet - fantastic news.

Good luck for tomorrow Poxtola!

hopefully · 26/08/2008 20:42

Congrats to Jenpet! Look forward to hearing her birth story when she's home with Samuel.

Ooh, Potxola, will look forward to your birth announcement tomorrow.

Still catching up with the posts on the new thread but want to post before everyone goes to bed! A lot seems to have happened!

Potxola glad the pre-op went well. I am very excited for you and will definitely be thinking of you tomorrow morning. It's great that they've told you you're second on the list - I don't think my hospital does that. Hope you don't get bumped by an emergency.

Jenbot it will all be over by the time you read this but very excited for you too and looking forward to hearing how it went in a French hospital! So you're going to be 7 or 8 days early - absolutely fine!

Sunshine lovely to hear from you and many congratulations! I'm amazed you're up and about so quickly, it's giving me hope for my own CS recovery.

I had my 36-week MW appointment today. Everything is fine, baby very active. I told her I've been getting more period-like pains so she said if they get higher to call the labour ward. I've had none since the appointment though so don't think this is the start of labour! Better if he stays put at least another week anyway as I'm not quite full term yet (6 days to go til 37 weeks).

I'm now going to catch up on the rest of the posts.
