Congrats sunshine Lovely name!
Am getting very of these latest arrivals!

I have 3 1/2 weeks to go, am the size of a house, hips are killing me, so I gave in and bought a support belt today.

Saw midwife, she suggested splints for both hands as she thinks i have carpal tunnel, I will be more strapping than clothes soon! She has made me an appointment for 2 weeks time, I am really really hoping that I won't need it!!!

Got my inflatable ball out last night and watched Big brother leaning over it on my knees, (had a cushion on the floor) got up afterwards and could walk reasonably well! Will be watching TV in this position from now on me thinks!

DebitheScot · 26/08/2008 14:56

congrats sunshine glad every went and is still going well.

Can't believe we've filled another thread so quickly. The average labour lasts longer than one of our threads.

I want this baby out. Didn't sleep well at all last night, every time I wake up I htink its because somethings about to start happening and mind goes into overdrive and I start thinking about everything and can't get back to sleep. And then my pelvis is really achy today too, usually it eases off once I get up in the morning but hasn't today.

Still having a slight panic about our car seat as me and dh tried to fit it yest and it doesn't seem very safe looking with or without the base. But phoned Halfords and they are going to have a look at it this aft even though they wouldn't normally do that for seats not bought there. Fingers crossed they'll say its ok as really don't want to have to buy another one (and also think that as we've got weird seat belts there might not be one that does fit)

becaroo I asked my mw about the pain. Mine had disappeared by this morning. She said it was the baby making room to settle in lower. Will keep waggling my bum from side to side while draped over my ball. It does wonders for walking afterwards, doesn't it izzybiz

meglet · 26/08/2008 15:26

Congrats sunshine glad everything has gone ok. I am reassured by the fact you are already up and about after your cs. While I'm not intending to run any marathons it will be nice if I can feel comfortable getting out the house.

notsoslimnow the new bottle feeding guidelines are a right palava . We stuck to them though as I am a huge worrier, ie: boil kettle shortly before baby is likely to need feed, wait for it to cool a tiny bit, mix with powder then we cooled it down to drinking temp by putting it in an icy glass of water. But for the first month we used either ready made formula (which nearly bankrupted us) or DS was on expressed milk so there was no preparation as such. I'm suprised a MW said you could use bottled water , I'm sure thats a definate 'no no' in all the government advice you read. I am hoping I can BF for a while at least, I can't stand washing bottles as I am spectactularly lazy .

becaroo · 26/08/2008 15:34

Congratulations Sunshine!

You sound like you are doing great! What a beautiful name...

I am a bit ashamed to admit this, but I had a bit of a cry last night...so very fed up. This pregnancy is nothing like my last one which was easy with an easy (well, as easy as they can be!) birth and now I am in a panic as this pregnancy has been a nightmare and I am worried it means I am in for a bad time of it birth wise IYSWIM?

Thanks for asking your midwife about that pain kiskidee....I have an appointment with mine on thursday but she is SO useless she will just look blankly at me and I will want to stab her in the eye with her pen!

Think dh is starting to worry now too - he told me he slept badly last night becasue he was worried about me - I am not normally a cryer by nature.

Think I might go off and watch some trashy TV........see ya!

Ponymum · 26/08/2008 15:35

Hmmm... anyone else notice that so far we have 5 girls and 1 boy? Does that mean it's more likely the rest of us will have boys to even things up? Of course, the scientist in me knows there is still exactly the same chance as before, but still...

Yesterday I finally unpacked the baby things into the new house, after DH assembled the new drawers. I am now a whole lot more relaxed about things. Until yesterday I was a nervous wreck every time I had a pain, thinking, you can't come yet, I haven't got your bed ready!! Really overdid it though, so spending today in bed.

Unpacking and organising things yesterday made me understand my super-organised sister a little more. She is a very intimidating mum with everything always tidy and in the right place, not like me (search for clothes in the bottom of the wardrobe, etc). But yesterday I got the label maker out and labelled all the drawer contents so everything will be easy to find / put away. DH doesn't know what's come over me (and neither do I!). So proud of myself though, and love looking at all the little clothes ready for our little baby!

MunkiMom · 26/08/2008 15:36

Allloooo!

barnpot with ds1, it was the same situation. it was at my 37 week appt the mw's felt he was breech. The specialist did try to turn him but he wasn't budging at all. so they brought around the diary just after the attempt and booked me in at 39 weeks for C/s.
i can empathize with your fears and concerns! i haven't heard about anyone elses experience with the attempts at turning baby, so i only have mine to go on...and i don't want to scare you but it wasn't the most comfortable experience. ((sounds funny saying that in a room full of women who've experienced normal childbirth!

you will be just fine though, barn! even if it's not how you planned on welcoming your lil bubs into the world, what ever happens will be the best (and/or) only option.
chin up, hun! just do the positions on the site kiskidee sent you! no worries, all will be ok.

sunshine Awwwww!!! i'm so made up for you and your family! LOL about your panic for it being a girl!
huge congrats!

As for me, this morning i went to my "consultant" appt. 10:30, the mw said. so i get there & guess what!!? the room was chock full of soon to be mums, all there to have their last checks. and the appt time? well, everyone gets the same appt time and its a first come/served basis. we we're finally seen to about 1.5 hours later. dh was livid about it, as he'd taken off work for this because the mw made out that this was an appt that i had to have because of a prior c/s. but we were in & out of the office in 15 mins.

basically, i was just given the risk info about having a normal delivery after a prior c/s. but he went on further saying that if i were to go into the 41st week, the risks of complications due to induction raise 5 fold. so as a precaution, they booked an appt for another consult in the 41st week (24th).

but on another note, all is well. just really knackered today! was feeling a bit blue as well. something in the water perhaps?

hope you are all doing well!

becaroo my DP is worrying too. We're both freaked out by the cs and that we are somehow going to have to manage 2 children. I said maybe the doctor will give him some valium . I don't think he is going to let my mum leave our house once DD is born!

Ponymum · 26/08/2008 15:46

notsoslim - I am terrified about these new bottle prep guidelines and SO HOPE the breastfeeding is successful for us. It would be a nightmare if I have to get up in the night to go through all of that for each freash bottle. What was so wrong with how it was done before? Was there actually a problem with babies getting sick, or is this just stupid risk-averse scare-mongering from stupid govt departments trying to make our lives difficult?

becaroo - don't be ashamed about crying! You can't possibly have been doing as much as me, and I'm sure it's better to let it out! Good idea to balance with some meaningless laughter afterwards though. Trashy TV great, also try icecream and reading children's books! Anything silly helps.

ponymum the risks are real. Infant formula powder is not sterile, I'm afraid. Babies in Europe have died because of this fact in the very recent past.

As far as night feeds go, buy a good hot water flask (thermos) and store water overnight for it.

I would dilute the feed in half the amount of water (hot) as you intend to prepare then top up with cold water, stored in a lidded beaker in the fridge for this purpose. No real waiting around.

You also cannot rely on the packaging of some formulas to provide you with the most updated information.

I can link a document from the DOH later but I am rushing out now.

lollipopmother · 26/08/2008 16:08

Becaroo - Don't worry about crying, I had a serious wobble a couple of nights ago because I was in real pain with my back and I just had this horrible sense that I was going to go into labour right then and I wouldn't be able to deal with it. It seems silly now, but at the time I was seriously on the verge of tears, and I very rarely cry!

lollipopmother · 26/08/2008 16:09

Mustsleep - Ok no probs, but if your sister can't get you any I'm happy to go down to H&B and get some for you.

hello everyone, not been on any of your threads before cos only just got computer up and running again. i'm due 17th sept with 2nd babe and don't know what i'm having. have dd who is 2 and in last few weeks has decided to become terrible 2's.

had pre eclampsia last time and ended up having dd at 36 weeks. really thought it would be same this time but bp grand so feeling really pleased but shocked that babe not here yet. was totally disorganised last time so this time very scarily organised.

i had right mare last time with bottle feeding, ended up using ready made cos just couldn't get my head round it and costed us loads! hoping won't have same bf problems this time (was down to dd only bein 4lb 8oz's and hospital insisted i feed her set volumes every 3 hrs and although i tried bf and expressing never seemed to have much milk). hoping this time babe will be 'normal' weight and can just get on with bf.

Starlight - Are you me?! I bought a five pack of Mars a couple of weeks ago for my bag and ate them all, so I got another five pack, and ate all them too! I've not bothered getting another lot yet, I think I'll get them on the way to the hospital as it's obvious that I can't be trusted!!

I am 38+5 and 2/5th palpable, when I saw my mw today she said she didn't think I was going to turn up, as she'd been thinking of me all week and had been getting early labour vibes, bless her, she's a lovely woman and I'll really miss her when this is all done.

starlight... thanks for the info i think what is confusing me is 1) if i mix the formula with the hot boiled water and then let it cool to room temp before feeding, considering the bottle is sterile and the heat from water should have killed any bacteria in the formula when mixed ...if fed to baby within a few hours how is this bad??? i mean im going to bypass advice on evian as this midwife (works for a very well known private hospital by the way) tends to be a bit like that with doing things ''her way'' not following all guidelines etc.(by the way its only evian or volvic she uses as they have an acceptable mineral content in some way??) anyway i am unable to bf due to reduction so best go off and see if i can read anything on formuls peoples website.
