kiskidee · 27/08/2008 10:20

i'm planning a HWB but have stocked: 3 bounty bars and a big Green and Black's choc bar. Half a bag of Doritos, Cashews, diced dried papaya and pineapple and one Miso soup! I am a water drinker.

mustsleep · 27/08/2008 10:27

lol mumiyumi i;m a bit like you think i will say that i have doneit in the approved way and just do it like i did with the other two

i'm 38 weeks this week and last saw the midwife at 36 weeks - i think you only see her weekly at the end when it's your first? but not sure they could have just changed it, i'm going tomorrow so would think that i will see her again when i am 40 weeks although of course i will have had him by then!!

congrats jenpet look forward to hearing your birth story

good luck for tomorrow poxtola am sooo that you get to know for definate the day!!

last midwife's appt his head was a brim but can;t tell if it has gone down myself i though it had ages ago but no it had not!! my heartburn is hurrendous so noty too sur that that bodes too well!!

potxola · 27/08/2008 10:34

Lollipopmother Starlight Jearund I have just realised something really weird: If you add all the numbers together 28-8-2008 adds up to 28. I am going nuts here .

Anyway I called the nursery and they can take my ds tomorrow. Then I called the hospital and I spoke to the same midwife who called me at 21:30 last night (By the way, how many hours do the midwifes work? They should not have such long shifts. No wonder mistakes happen, they must be knackered) Well she was lovely and she has put a big note in my file so I am not delayed again. We will see. I could not sleep till 3:00 am thinking of the women waiting to have emergency C-sections last night.
I am going to have breakfast now.
Any more babies ladies?

hopefully · 27/08/2008 10:34

Potxola glad you're seeing the positive in your CS delay!

hospital bag food - I've put in a variety bag of things like mini crunchies, mars bars etc, and plenty of dried fruit - gives you energy and helps move things along afterwards to avoid the dreaded constipation (first timer here, but have heard enough horror stories...) Have also frozen a couple of sandwiches which we'll take in and eat if we're there long enough for them to defrost, and some frozen water so it's nice and cool to drink during labour (and some non-frozen water, so I have something to drink immediately!)

I saw MW last at 36 weeks, will see her again tomorrow (38 weeks), and as i recall she said I could see her if I wanted at 39 weeks, or wait till 40 weeks, as I'm so low risk. Don't know if I'll bother with 39 week appointment, depends how I'm feeling.

ninja · 27/08/2008 10:34

MunkiMom I'd recommend dried fruit - full of energy and helps that first poo along (sorry if TMI!)

I get my Homebirth visit tomorrow - can't wait it'll make it all seem real.

I think baby's same position as last visit - head down and back to LHS so that should be OK I think!

mustsleep · 27/08/2008 10:40

i've never been constipated after either birth before - is it just a cs thing? although i can;t say i was actually looking forward to going

does anyone know that if my homebirth works out will i get my bounty packs still - i want that baby wipe holder and my cute pot of sudcrem....... god i'm sad

my bh's seem to have moved from accross my tummy to my bum and my lower back so this could be good!! i'm sure i remember that's where my pains started before!!

potxola · 27/08/2008 11:24

Mustsleep Thanks. I was about to buy a pot of sudocrem. I forgot we are given one.
You could be next!!!!!!!!! Maybe tomorrow, on lucky day like me!!!!! . I haven't had any BH yet and I am 38.6 weeks.
Keep us informed.
All the best.

lollipopmother · 27/08/2008 11:31

Potxola - All the numbers adding up to 28 is freaky! You haven't been watching that film '23' have you?!

MunkiMom · 27/08/2008 11:35

thanks, ladies, for the advice and suggestions on hosp bag food. it's all been very helpful. will be prepared indeedy. ((well, thats only if i don't eat it before i actually go to the hosp...as some of you are doing as well!)) lol so hard, isn't it??

i've been sooo naughty with the crap i've been eating through pregnancy. i do feel the guilt so heavily (no pun intended) because i lost 7 stone just before we tried to make this beebee. and i haven't bothered to step on the scales since then, cos really, i don't wanna be down about it...i'd rather just enjoy it as part of the pregnancy...iyswim. and i can always restart the diet after bf'ing as well. its not the end of the world.

saying that, i wonder where my tesco man is with the groceries... i know i have a bit of mango sorbet coming, i can hear it calling my name from the delivery truck, where ever he is! hehehehe

MunkiMom · 27/08/2008 11:37

poxtola
It's a sign!!!!
it has to happen tomorrow!!
don't you let them delay you again!

Ponymum · 27/08/2008 11:46

Hi munkimum. I am having elective c-s too, but my snacks compilation is based on the fact that I will be in hospital for a few days afterwards, and also that DH will be with me during the days with no food provided for him, so we will need a few things to hand. I have lots of packets of cranberries and macadamias (my favourite dried fruit/nut combination), dried apricots cos DH loves them, mini packs of Jaffa cakes (yes lollipop I have started eating these too - what are we like? ) and I need to replace my mini packs of peanut M&Ms which I keep eating ahead of time...

I also intended to take my favourite little savoury snack, mini oatcakes topped with tinned smoked oysters as a celebration treat. Probably sounds revolting to lots of people but I love it! Tragic thing is, I have denied myself the smoked oysters throughout my entire pg because I thought I wasn't allowed any shellfish, then last week I said to DH that it was just getting too much for me and I HAD to have some, so how risky could it be at this stage? So my lovely DH got on the internet and looked at all the info on tinned shellfish, which said the canning process removed the risk and they are OK to eat... doh! So now I am indulging again I need to find an alternative post-natal food treat for something I have missed during pg... maybe some expensive duck pate, or stinking soft french brie... mmmm, yum yum! (though smells on the ward would not be popular, I'm sure!).

hopefully your suggestion of the frozen water bottles sounds fab, what a great idea.

imoscarsmum · 27/08/2008 12:03

Phew! Just spent an hour catching up as I hadn't been around since Friday. Wow - am in awe at how fast things move, especially with lots of new babies - OMG - as a first timer it makes things a bit more real and scary. Pllleeaassee let labour be quick and easy!!!!

Anyway, huge congrats to all new mums - hoping that all is going well and can't wait to hear birth stories.

I am currently in nightie and dressing gown - first proper slob out day of mat leave. Feel v strange as have This Morning on TV and have worked full-time for 18 years, so feel like I'm skivving hehe....

Like alot of you, I'm loving being pg, despite all the worries and pains and heartburn etc etc. I really want this LO to stay out until at least 39w (& yes, i realise I may regret saying that at 40+12!!).

PML at people who have bought snacks for labour bag and eaten them already LOLOLOL.

hopefully - great idea about freezing sandwiches. Eandz great idea about taking pasta in - might try it myself.
Does this mean you are taking lots of food in a separate bag - with all my stuff, i can't fit everything into one bag. Have a wheely suitcase for most stuff but need to use another bag for food (eg bottles of water take up alot of space). Am getting worried about it - any help please?

Whoever mentioned excitable - she went off and joined another thread I think, called first timers - her last post was at end of July, so maybe things have happened.

Finally - been having mild period pains the last few days. MD said they were BH and not to worry - is this normal?

hopefully · 27/08/2008 12:03

Ponymum I pinched the idea from one of the 'hospital bag' threads on here. I also have a nice printed out list of things DP needs to throw in the bag at the last minute, so with a bit of luck the frozen water and sandwiches will actually make it into the bag...

I am already planning my first post natal meal - it will basically involve raiding the local deli! I want brie, parma ham, salami, pate and loads and loads of fresh bread and butter. And maybe a v small glass of champagne, but I will probably fall over if I have any, and BF is so unpredictable at first that maybe I won't.

imoscarsmum · 27/08/2008 12:05

Oooh munkimom did you see that the poor woman who got attacked by burglars near you and had an emerg cs - well it now seems her hubby had it all set up and he's been charged with attempted murder!!!
Suppose good news is that it means the chances of a genuine burglar breaking in and doing that is really really low.

barnpot · 27/08/2008 12:13

Just got back from positioning scan, and he's confirmed as breech, naughty lil bubs but bless him he looks so comfy all curled up. I've been offered a cvs next thursday when i'll be nearly 38 weeks, is that leaving it a little late? If they are unable to turn him, then I'll have an elective C/S the following week.
Feeling much better about the whole thing now, but wish I had a definate 'this is what will happen plan' I suppose I just like things clear cut and definate.
So happy to hear about the safe arrivals and the soon planned arrivals. take care everyone

slinkiemalinki · 27/08/2008 12:15

Congrats to the new mums! Wonderful news!
Sunshine, hope they were good to you at Chelsea!
eandz Carluccio's is opposite the hospital so you don't need to take your own pasta! I really recommend their pasta funghi, absolutely yummy.
I didn't worry about snacks in labour last time, I had a butter and sage ravioli at Carluccio's with husband and folks in early labour between checks at the hospital (I was being induced), couldn't get to the end of it as ctx were a bit sore by then but I'm sure it stood me in good stead (and may explain why DD is crazy about having lunch at Carluccio's now!)

slinkiemalinki · 27/08/2008 12:18

Oh and after I railed against blanket GBS testing I ended up having it. I asked my obstetrician and he said better to have it - belt and braces and all.
So now I am fretting about the result and worrying I will now spend my labour hooked up to IVABs, which I really don't want. But better safe than sorry I suppose. My DD had ABs last time and she is in brilliant health but I would rather avoid it for this little one.

DebitheScot · 27/08/2008 13:08

Congratulations to all the new mummmies and babies, this is definitely getting real now!
Am amazed potxola at how positive you are about the date moving. Wonder if me and Jenpet will be next or if someone will queue jump!

Having a lazy day as ds is at childminders, have nothing planned except to cut up some chicken breasts and put them in freezer in portions to make defrosting and cooking quicker (I also bought a whole load of jars of sauces like chicken tonight and sweet and sour the other day to have some easy to make meals at hand). Will also put a bottle of water in freezer while I'm at it, that was a good idea.

Got the car seat issue sorted yest, Halfords agreed to check it and said it's not perfect but it's fine and that rear facing ones are often not a perfect fit and will have more movement in them than forward facing ones (I was worrying about the amount of movement coz I was comparing it to ds's seat which doesn't move at all).

DebitheScot · 27/08/2008 13:10

Doh, sorry jenpet pregnant brain there . Obviously you have already jumped the queue!

If you take things like lucozade in take a bottle of water too as a lot of people find too much isotonic juice can make you throw up as it does sit in your stomach a bit.
I've got tuc biscuits, milky ways, twixes, small cartons of fruit juice and water. And so far I've resisted eating any of it.

carrieon · 27/08/2008 13:27

Afternoon all. I'm sooo tired today, dd was crying/burbling/screaming from 11pm-2am last night. nothing seemed to actually be wrong, I think she'd had too much daytime sleep and we'd disturbed her at 11 when we went to bed and for some reason it took her 3 hours to fall asleep again?! So we are beyond tired, having been unable to go to sleep until she did. Zzzzzzzz. So I'm off to bed soon now she's having her nap.
On the snacks issue, I took in the most enormous bar of dairy milk that money could buy last time, and found it most useful in the middle of the night on the post-natal ward! Just a few squares here and there . I've packed a surprise bag of haribo for dh this time too!
I went to visit a friend this morning who has a three month old, and she gave me all her newborn and 0-3m stuff, and tons of washable nappies for free which is amazing, and chucked a few other bits in the bag like breast pads, bubble bath, wipes and things. Felt like Christmas!
Realised that last pregnancy this was my first week of maternity leave. No such break this time. Yaaaaawn.

here's a strange question for you all....

has anyone actually heard a little popping noise when the baby kicks?

I've been hearing it here and there when the little guy kicks and it's so strange! Just wondering if anyone else has experienced it as well.

MelT76 · 27/08/2008 14:08

Just back from mw appt. Nothing new to report.

I did mention a few days ago that Sainsbury's have 1/3rd off all things baby. Now, I've just been with a friend and she had a voucher for this free mum and baby basket. Its worth £9.99 apparently. Anyway, Its now scanning at £6.65 and the pack of nappies you need to buy are £2.49. BUT the voucher still takes off £9.99 so you are actually up £1. I already had mine tho so didn't benefit me, thought it would help someone.
