Awww, so cute

Buckets · 25/08/2008 19:46

Hi all,
Def feeling chirpier again today after my sleepover at my mum's, managed to stay in bed with Kurt til 9am. Still not happy with BFing but sticking with it for the mythical 6wk turning point (not having a steriliser helps). Took the kids to see DH's grandparents this avo (they were coming to visit as DH can't say no but I made him change the plan.)

Have also decided to sell my Phil&Teds already as DS really is too big for the little seat and it's really quite unwieldy. Will buy a newer version of my beloved McLaren Vogue instead and learn to use my sling until the buggyboard can be used (reclined seat gets in the way).

TS, I never got my CS wounds wrapped, they like them to get as much fresh air as poossible over here.

Micromum, if you feel up to it, ask if you can get out of bed before 24hrs. I've had CSecs at 1 hosp with a 24hr 'guideline' and 1 with an ASAP policy and I felt I recovered quicker with the latter. IlanaK on this board was up within a few hours and said she felt it made a big difference. If you have the catheter in overnight, keep asking staff to check the bag is not full. Take peppermind teabags for the trapped wind, even if you hate it.

alittlebitshy · 25/08/2008 20:23

Well, I'm v close to going to mixed feeding. My sore side is sorer and my other side is hurting after weeks of being ok. bfc suggested we use expressed tonight to give me and my sore bits time to recover, but I think tomorrow dh will be off to buy some formula and I'll try and keep bf as much as I can with my sore bits alongside a couple of bottle. crap crap crap mummy

poppysocks · 25/08/2008 20:32

ALBS - Please don't beat yourself up about moving to mixed feeding. You have done SO well to get this far and will have done Henry so much good. I ended up mixed feeding last time after having a similar experience to you (but I didn't last as long) and ended up so much happier - so much so that we're actually trying for mixed feeding this time.

poppysocks · 25/08/2008 20:35

Glad you're feeling happier Buckets. Amazing what even a little extra sleep can do!

I second what you say about getting up and about quickly after a c-section. Also, really forcing yourself to stand up straight. My biggest problem this time has been backache, which I'm sure is because I wasn't standing up straight.

TwilightSurfer · 25/08/2008 21:10

ALBS if you're a crap mummy then I'm the world's worst...I didn't try to BF at all. I knew from the beginning it wasn't going to work out. I did what was best for me and Reese (and the rest of the family too). You shouldn't consider ANY option you choice a bad one. That's why we have options. The outcome will be the same.

alittlebitshy · 25/08/2008 21:12

thanks all.

dh gievn H some expressed (bu the bags have v bad measurement gauges on them so what we thought was over 6oz was actually 5 )

poppy - tell me about your mixed feeding routine?!

Off to bed for a bit if henry will sleep...#

waaah

PetitFilou1 · 25/08/2008 21:29

albs - don't beat yourself up, you've done really well. Motherhood is filled with guilt as it is and Henry will be fine either way.

Am sad this thread is coming to an end - I feel like all my friends have gone off and left me (I do have RL friends though honest )

dizzydixies · 25/08/2008 21:36

petitfilou what do you mean coming to an end - where are you going??!! are you not going to be joining us on the the Aug 08 postnatal thread?!?

what am I going to do without you lot - I've been through tonnes on these threads and surprised I haven't made everyone's ears bleed but couldn't have done it without you all

having a marathon session with Dylan today who hasn't slept since this afternoon everytime I look down at her and think she's asleep she just looks back up at me with micheif in her eyes - am in trouble with this one guys

sazz hope you got on ok with visitors
ALBS backing up what everyone is saying, you're doing really well with the feeding - don't be beating yourself up about anything
buckets glad you managed some rest and hope Kurt is kind to you tonight

micromum you've been given great advice re your section but one thing I can add - I hate peppermint tea so asked for peppermint water which is just like have a shot of peppermint cordial and it worked wonders good luck with it all

poppy am fed up with this sodding weather we made it to Cairnie for a wee while on Sat and were hoping to do something yesterday but alas nope - had a wee while in the park this afternoon so at least they got some fresh air after school/nursery will have to try and meet up at some point once am brave enough to try to come out

dizzydixies · 25/08/2008 21:37

TS absolutely GORGEOUS - lovely photo, just makes it all worth while doesn't it?

Hi everyone, sorry i haven't been on for a while but struggling a bit with not having had this baby yet (ever since she pretended she was going to come last Sunday). I know she isn't due until Thursday but has really been playing silly buggers which is not fun. DS1 said to me yesterday morning (as I was in tears in the kitchen) - "don't worry mummy, the baby will come out when she is ready" - oh the wise words of a 5 year old.
Haven't even tried to catch up on the thread, but hope everyone who has their LOs is doing well.
PF, AnnVan, Cyteen and anyone else who is still waiting... thoughts are with you I hope things happen soon.
Sorry for the me post but feeling rubbish enough to be watching Pretty Woman on the TV!!! Things must be bad

poppysocks · 25/08/2008 22:21

ALBS - Last time around I ended up having to just express for a while because of the antibiotics I was on for horrific wound issues, but was rather a relief as nips were just SO sore (I was haunted by the idea that I couldn't handle what everyone says is par for the course. I know what that is now and that's NOT what it was then). Anyway, I didn't manage to get my supply up enough afterwards so ended up ff but with 1 x bf in the morning and afternoon. TBH I think they were more for comfort than substantial nutritional benefit, but it made everyone feel better, LOL.

This time, we're aiming for bf during the day and ff at night. I've been rounding the feed off, if I can (she's often too heavily asleep by then) and pumping before I go to bed to keep supply up. Contrary to the belief of the health professionals, it seems to be working. Crucially, if it doesn't work out and my supply fails/she gets nipple confusion etc and I end up on bottles, I won't feel bad as we did such a good job at convincing ourselves the ff is just as good as bf last time! So far, so good though and DD2 seems be doing really well at night....

It is really frustrating to be faced with such negativity from any health care professional when you say you want to mix - they seem to prefer ff than mix, but I guess it's because it's so much harder to advise on it.

Dizzy - Thank goodness we had a couple of days with half ok weather. Saturday was the first since Emily's arrival that it didn't rain . August, you say? Was also thinking that it would be good to get together once the DHs are back at work (am I right in thinking yours goes back next week too?).

Sazzles - V. wise to send you sis to a travel inn. I'm terrible too at not being the hostess with the mostest (or trying at least ), but you just have to relinquish control at a time like this. Was lovely to have dinner cooked a few times in the last week or so by visitors. Great to see them, but the rest of DH's paternity leave this week will be all the nicer for not having any more .

SO sorry for ridiculous length of post.

TwilightSurfer · 25/08/2008 22:26

ATARAXIS {{{{{{{{ HUGS }}}}}}}}}}

Sazzles I'm with you on sending guests to a different location to sleep and offering take-away for dinner. Just not worth the effort right now, is it.

Speaking of effort....I NEED A SHOWER!!! Haven't wanted to move much today because I felt like a pulled myself a little bit on one side of my inseam (should probably stop calling it that) last night getting up to get Reese food and it still kinda hurts. Have all kinds of "what-ifs" going on in my head (AS I AM A WORRIER) so decided being still was the best fix. DD1 has complied nicely to my sofa or dining table locations today. Bless her for finally clueing in to "Mommy Needs A Break." Reese has also uped her food intake enough that she's requiring less feedings. THANK YOU!!

dum de dum de dum...still waiting.
Did change all duvet covers in house today. Hope that constitutes nesting.
How many of us are left?

dizzydixies · 25/08/2008 22:30

poppy he starts back a week on thurs, am considering begging my aunt to come up and stay with me for the first few days

poppysocks · 25/08/2008 22:47

Sounds v. wise Dizzy! Wish I could do the same, but not sure DH would tolerate any more visitors. Give me a shout when real life has descended and you're up for some company/consolation!

dizzydixies · 25/08/2008 22:54

my dh LOVES my aunt coming up as she manages to get everything done with the greatest of ease, the girls adore her and I relax - she's been in spain for a wee while visiting the new baby over there so whether or not she'll want to come up is a different thing entirely but its worth a shot

will get something organised very soon

dizzydixies · 25/08/2008 23:10

have uploaded a few more photos

someone humour me please!

poppysocks · 25/08/2008 23:13

Oh what gorgeous pics Dizzy! Can't wait to meet Dylan too.

dizzydixies · 25/08/2008 23:15

am not as capable as your dh with his impressive website! we manage on facebook alone in our family

LadyOfWaffle · 25/08/2008 23:15

evening all - checking in from hospital so sorry for typing- tiny keypad.

felt verryill sun. and took temp- 39.5 and still no mw until tues (baby born thurs). rung hosp. i gave birth at and told meto come in and been here since! tons of iv anti-bs for me, blood tests, cultures, swabs etc. (temmp down now, still waiting for blood culturesresult for reason but now have mastitis (badly) whichmay account for it). baby had blood test which showed high infectionmmarkers so blood cultures, iv anti-bs (in foot ) for baby and possibly lumbar puncture. iam heaps better though and dss markers were down today so both hopefully just to complete antib courses 3 dayss for me, 5 for ds. no name yet - joseph or malachi/malachy/malacky possibly. much love, need sleep xx

dizzydixies · 25/08/2008 23:22

oh LofW what a mess - poor you and poor wee baby

hope you're feeling a lot better very soon - I had mastitis with dd2 and found the best thing was the net sponge things you get for foaming up in the shower - using one of those to massage my boobs was the best thing ever

did you see my suggestion of Atlas as a name for the 'wee' man - has that been completely disgarded?!?

take care and get as much rest as you can

{{hugs}}

AnnVan · 26/08/2008 01:16

LoW- for the both of you. Hope you both recover soon!

My body's complete weirdness when it comes to sleep is actually quite intriguing. woke up at 3 am yesterda, and here I am nearly 24 hours later. Legs restlessly jiggling. I htink I might make anotherappointment with the reflexologist, see ifit helps.
