cyteen · 04/09/2008 15:13

oops it's so unnecessary on FIL's part - I'm not surprised you're upset Yes, it is only a card but it's him who's chosen to make an issue of it, not you. Bizarre behaviour.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who posted reassurance It is much appreciated. Our night was actually fine in the end, I think I was just having the classic first night nerves. Spent four hours watching him breathing The snuffliness does just sound a bit nasal, so I guess it's probably all the air full of stuff to irritate his brand new nasal passages. As for the feeding issues, I think it's just colic - we broke out the Infacol in the end and it sorted him right out God bless Infacol! I know I'm lucky, he's been such a good feeder so far that I'm really enjoying bf (hope this continues). I just love seeing his little face when he manages to latch on and gets the first mouthful of food...

In fact he's been so good all round - we're in a nice cycle of change-feed-cuddle-sleep-wake at the moment. I think it's fair to say that we're completely bowled over by him. He is SO GORGEOUS

Mw has been round this morning and was very reassuring also. Joseph is doing well, I'm doing well, apparently my stitches are healing nicely and were excellently done, and she gave me lots of practical advice on pile reduction, having had them badly herself the first time.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/09/2008 15:14

AH dont cry OOPS Well do if it makes you feel better, (I have done enough this week)rant away. you have every right to.
Your baby your birth anouncement, do what YOU want, he is old enough and should be respectful enough to get over it..
Hugs to you
xx

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/09/2008 15:16

Just to say congrats to Cyteen and it was nice to read your birth story. Well done you! Knackering but almost instantly forgotten once you have a little someone to hold? At least until those stitches start to pull/piles say hello/boobs go ballistic (delete as appropriate)...

Sambo I was in the same place as you with the HB, at 11 days late was starting to panic about not being able to get what I wanted. Our LHA is actually really good, compared to where I had no.1 son, so I think even term + 14 wasn't regarded as the end of the road for HB options. In fact, had Owen not arrived after 2nd s&s we had been planning to request a scan/liqua (?sp?) check in the first instance to see what our options were, rather than going straight to booking an induction. Good luck with it and stand your corner - I think they tend to look at statistics in some places rather than on a case by case basis. Having said that a mum round here apparently delivered at term + 4 weeks (!!!!) which is taking it a leetel far I think.

Speaking of which, all the best to delivery room ladies - pompoms high in the air here and can't wait to hear your news.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/09/2008 16:00

Thanks to advice/response regarding my piglet.
Think maybe I not getting enough wind up, will try harder tonight and see what happens.

miamla · 04/09/2008 16:10

no1 as the mother of a particularly windy baby (lol, he's just farted as i typed that!!), try different winding positions. eg up on your shoulder or over your lap (LO's legs between yours, tummy over your leg and a hard pat to the back whilst supporting LO's head with other hand). Another thing we've found that sometimes works is if you hold baby around the rib cage (looks like you're just holding him under his arms) and kind of dangle him so his legs are free. Not sure why this works, stretches out stomach maybe? anyway, my point is that if one position doesnt get any wind up, i try a different one and keep going until i'm convinced wind is all gone (can take up to 20mins of dangling and patting)
Once baby is a month old you can try using gripe water, seems alot more natural than infacol and works on T better but i imagine different baby, different results!

oops you stick to your guns girl! your baby, your choice!

Buckets · 04/09/2008 16:16

I did my first babywearing schoolrun in the pouring rain today. Have to say it's very hard work (esp pushing a 3st child in a pushchair at the same time) as school is down by the river and our house is up the steep side of the valley. But I seem to sweat about a pound of baby weight with every 30min round trip so well worth it! Will be doing 3 trips a day next week so I should be wasted away by half term.

Kurt is currently in my Maya ringsling in an upright position, it goes really nice and tight, he feels too big and cumbersome in the newborn 'across' position.

dancerandprancer · 04/09/2008 16:31

Hi all. Sorry for not posting sooner. Just got home from hospital with baby Oliver John.

He was born on Sat 30/08/08 and weighed in at 8lb 14.5oz. He developed an infection and was on Neo natal unit for 4 days. Happy to be home now to take up daisy the cow role. Boys seem to be so much hungrier than girld.

Congratulations to all those who have popped since I last posted.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/09/2008 17:08

congratulations Dancerandprancer

I have put some pics on profile of water birth. Be warned GRAPHIC IMAGES. LOL

Buckets · 04/09/2008 17:27

Good work DancerPrancer. Send your DP out for chocolate ASAP, it's the only thing that got me through the first fortnight!

No1, fantastic pics, your bump doesn't look big enough to have fitted him in!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/09/2008 17:34

MW said that too didnt think he would be as big as dd she was 9 3 so she was shocked when he weighed in at 10 2.
But think its only fair to say that I was more shocked, afterall I felt it.

VintageGardenia · 04/09/2008 17:57

Well done dancerandprancer and second what Buckets says about choc, get that stuff down you.

No1 you are total labour glamourpuss with gleaming hair and you look so relaxed! The pictures are lovely, in a way I wish I had some, yet in a way I am glad I don't. Lovely to have had your sis by your side.

VintageGardenia · 04/09/2008 17:59

sazzles what happens at your BF group? I went to one today. We sat around on benches in a waiting room, shyly admired one another's babies, a couple of people fed, people got called in one by one to have babies weighed, people sidled out. BUT surely I should have made some new close friends, settled one or two playdates and found it an invaluable community support??? Or am I just too blardy reserved?

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 18:22

I feel like a crippled elephant.
Or a beached whale.

Where is Ataraxis??

AnnVan · 04/09/2008 18:24

Oops - outrageous childish behaviour from FIL - this is your child. he has no right to take over, and dictate how you should do anything.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/09/2008 19:12

Bless you vg I certainly didnt feel like a glamour puss especially on show for all them MW even though its nothing they havnt seen before.

But I was very relaxed throughout.
Was amazing to have sister with me and her eldest dd who is 13yr (she was here to watch my dd but we all ended up in same room)
Not saying my dh wasnt great, he was wonderful, but very busy getting pool to right temp etc...

But there is something about having sister there that made it very special, maybe because another women who has done it knows how you feel. IYKWIM

CONGRATS Dancer!!!

VG, Reese SMILES all the time but when she's sleeping...like she's dreaming of nice things. She's got the cutest little dimples in her cheeks that are very noticable when she smiles. Occasionally she'll laugh (again, while sleeping/dreaming). I don't remember DD1 doing any of that.

I am currently nutty as a fruit cake having had only four hours sleep in two days (and that's in two different two hour stints). I've had to take DH to work by way of car shop so his ROADSTER can have brakes done. DD1 covered herself in poptart on the way so had to stop and purchase her a new pair of pants so she could GO TO SCHOOL. Made it to school RIGHT ON TIME. Ran errands with Reese (THANK GOD FOR MY MOBY!!!). Finally grabbed breakfast at LUNCH TIME. Found my way back to DD1's school just as Reese needed to be fed. Grabbed DD1, ran her through a fast food place for lunch then hurried her on to her hair cut appointment ONLY TO FIND OUT it had been cancelled (hairdressers mom sick). Another lady offered to cut DD1's hair since we were already there.....I wish I'd waited. OH WELL. Now back home because I had to PEE!!!! Waiting for DH's call so we can go back across town, get him and take him to get his car. Did I mention I'm cross-eyed looney from lack of sleep??? I NEED A VODKA SHOT!!!! AND A VACATION........BY MYSELF!!!!!

OH............Reese is calling must go feed.

evening all!

oops totally shocking FIL - you're pregnant not him - what on earth does he need to send announcements out for! Wish I had got round to doing it with my four but never did - text message with photo from mobile had to do! We sent postcards made of photo as thank you cards though!

Imogen does that knowing smile in her sleep, I always thiunk they look like they are dreaming they are swimming in milk!

Had a crazy day today but was really nice. Toddlers this morning - we made rainbow fish with the kids and had a really good turnout, then had my friends kids back to mine for lunch and then friends brought older ones home at end of school. Plus another friend came to visit so for several hours there were 15 of us in the house (mostly kids!) and we don't have a big house! but I felt like I was getting back to my normal self which was great!

Am now working on my new work things but am contemplating a bath and watching last nights desperate housewives on 4OD - just depends on Imogen and if I can drag myself up the stairs!

Anyone know how to get a baby that sleeps for 4 - 5 hours in the day and 90 mins at night to reverse it!!!!?!

Dizzy - Your DD's are absolutely gorgeous !
Nookie .... are we sure ??? Saying that, I wouldn't actually mind but my lochia is still all over the place at the mo ... one day it's barely even noticeable, the next it's back with a vengance
