No1, Breasts can not be 'empty', breasts make milk as you go along, who ever told you that doesn't have much information about breastfeeding

It is normal to offer one breast (A) and when the baby comes off, offer the other breast (B) repeat by reoffering Breast A, until baby refuses or falls asleep. On the next feed start on the breast which was refused/fallen asleep on. No need to worry about how much milk was taken etc

As for your lumpy boobs, it takes a while for your milk supply to catch down to the level needed for your little one, as initially we produce far too much milk in case we had twins or a massive baby.

You could hand expressing or pump just enough milk for your breasts to feel comfortable after feeds. Try not to remove loads, else this will stimulate your breasts to make even more.

BTW 10 minutes feeds are normal for some babies, there is no set time or number of sides a baby needs to have, it is purely an individual thing.

As long as your baby is healthy, active with plenty of dirty/wet nappies there is no need to worry.

Morning all!

Delighted to announce the safe arrival of Owen Henry early hours of Monday 1 September weighing a surprisingly large 8lb 15.5oz.

The birth was fantastic and just what I'd hoped for with a homebirth - it had been a bit of a day as I had my second stretch and sweep Sunday lunchtime and, at 11 days late, had been having discussions about induction and hospital intervention etc. etc. which was the opposite of what I had wanted. In the end tho, the s&s and a bit of 'what got the baby in will get it out' did the trick and I was having what I thought were BHs all afternoon. It was only by 9.30pm that evening that I thought it might be labour but at that point the MW still suggested a warm bath and paracetamol. At 10.30pm I knew it was probably proper labour - MW came with all the gear by about 11pm and baby Owen arrived in our bedroom at just before 1am - just 54 minutes into the next school year!

A couple of stitches for some tearing in the same part as DS1 apparently, and only because he was a relative whopper - DS1 was only 7lb 1oz and I was expecting a couple of ounces more but not a virtual 9lber. Timely use of a hot water bottle and Amy Winehouse on CD were all I needed to get through the labour, which was great as I was pretty lucid in between contractions, and it was nice to fall asleep in our bed afterwards.

All okay post-birth too and fingers crossed BF is working out this time round so far - he's already far happier on the boob than no.1 son so I'm hoping we can stick with it this time. Homebirth definitely helped keep us both relaxed I reckon. Anyway, speaking of boob I think my rather sore pair are required.

Haven't had time to catch up on other posts - flying congrats in the meantime to other new mummies and hope to catch up again soon.

Nookie timeline can move back to 8 Aug. Didn't quite manage the quickie this morning that DH was keen on though when both girls were making waking up noises and the alarm clock was getting rather insistent. Interrupted by almighty crashing sound and then silence. Ran into DD1's bedroom and found her on the floor, quite a way from her cot-bed, having somehow propelled herself out headfirst. She was fine once the shock had worn off and now thinks it was all funny. Think the sides will be coming off tonight though... Just hope this won't leave to any midnight wanderings, particularly to check on her little sister when she's awake...

Glad to hear there were some good nights. Good here too. 9,30-6.30! Quick feed and back again. Then up at 9, long feed and snuggled up again in our bed. Really should go and wake her... Anyone else's really beefing up now? At last night's count we had 3 chins and the start of a good pot-belly.

Hope you're feeling better today VG. I had a rubbish day yesterday too but feeling more optimistic today. Helped by the fact that we seem to have sun - must be yours sazzles. Would offer to give it back, but I think we're owed some and if it's any consolation, it's cold here too.
