Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
alittlebitshy · 01/09/2008 15:41

well, I've just been to get my little man weighed..... Ok. At birth he was 8lb11.5oz, at 18 days 9lb, and today (he'll be 6 weeks on Thursday) he is 12lb2oz - so that's 3lb2oz in the space of 3 weeks. Wow! It is mostly me too - he's had a few bedtime formula moments but it is mostly me!!!!

Still struggling with the feeding but this makes me want to carry on struggling a bit longer.

alittlebitshy · 01/09/2008 15:49

vicky I'm sure you WILL be fine at bf. I hope you're not basing youer worries on my whinges . Yes I am struggling, but as you'll see form my last post it is worth it - although as everyone - my wonderful bfc included - has said, babies are best off fed however works to ensure their mum is happy. I know Henry is better off with a happy mummy - as is my dd, so I am trying not to feel like I'm letting him down by adding in formula every few nigths (when our expressed stocks need re-plenishing). I also feel like i'm doing something slightly odd and slightly frowned upon by using a nipple shield on one side - but it's meant i've not given up... so that's good. And I am now more sure than ever that my problems are partly Henry's short tongue -(hurry and grow please) and his size related uber hooverlike suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AnnVan · 01/09/2008 15:54

Finally the mothrcare stuff has arrived!

alittlebitshy · 01/09/2008 15:56

yay at mothercare order!
we missed ours twice 2 weeks ago but found the delivery people's depot was nice and easy to find.

AnnVan · 01/09/2008 16:03

Well, it was just annoying that they didn't give me a clue as to when it would arrive, and then it turned up while I was out on Friday. At least I knew that it would be here today though. The only other delivery I'm expecting on the other hand, no way of telling is there...

ALBS - that's great news about Henry! What is the problem with using a nipple shield btw? I mean if they help you to carry on bf then surely they're a good thing??

oopsacoconut · 01/09/2008 16:09

Hi All

Sleeping baby on lap.

Annvan - I too was dreading induction but had the most amazing experiance I know I didn't do it au natural but the instant start and intensity to contractions were not worth waiting and seeing if I could take it or not. The actual process is not too bad - lots of monitoring and poking but I wouldn't swap it for the woman next door - who told her hubby 'get the f'ing thing out of me then I'm going to remove your testicles with my teeth' Pleased your delivery arrived.

Vicky Keep trying - do what you need to to keep you and baby happy.

Any news on Cyteen? Or have I missed an announcement (trying to catch up since last week!!!!)

AnnVan · 01/09/2008 16:24

Last I heard she was having contractions, but not regular ones. I'm guessing things have moved on for her though, so I suspect the next post from her will be a birth announcement! (disclaimer: I have no hard factual basis for this pronouncement)

alittlebitshy · 01/09/2008 16:39

lol at ann's disclaimer!
ann the "problem" with nipple shields is multi fold as i understand it - the most significant being that they can reduce milk supply by between 30 and 40% because baby is not stimulating the breats as directly, and the feed can take londer for the same reason. Also there is the issue of nipple confusion, which I am concerned about as sometimes (thoguh mainly evening when he is fussier and when milk supply is lower anyhow) he is getting uber cross and frustrated at my "normal" boob and screams and screams and won't latch on. That could just be henry being Henry though esp if the milk is not a free flowing as he;d like!!!
Er - there are more reasons but i forget now lol.

dh and dd are at dd's swiming lesson. I've manage to get a wash on - my dd is the messiest 5 year olf in the world i think. She's come home form school before now covered in lunch, asking my guess what she had . She says she's the messiest eater in the classs. SOmeone else is messy too apparently but gets it on the floor - she just gets it on herself lol. NB she is alos one the the best eaters so I'm happy with that!!

Hoovered earlier (triumpgh) - Henry enjoyed the show!

CaptainCaveman · 01/09/2008 17:12

oohh owww ouch - I think I might be getting mastitis. Not sure what the symptoms are but both boobs VERY tender and painful, esp the right one, and "aaarrgggh" when he feeds on this side. I feel a bit achey and sick too. Typical, dh is away overnight tonight so I am at home with both ds's . If I don't post by 10am tomorrow, come looking for me?

AnnVan · 01/09/2008 17:23

CC - the things women have to go through!

i feel a definite attack of the grumps coming on. Feel distinctly out of sorts.

alittlebitshy · 01/09/2008 17:26

call a bfline cc and ask them symptoms etc and they will advise!

CaptainCaveman · 01/09/2008 17:28

Advice on NHS direct website - avoid wearing your bra until it has cleared up....It would look like I'd try to drown us all in milk if I did that!!

Have put the heating on and that has helped my shivers - dh would be if he knew I'd got the heating on!! Still, unless he wants some mastitis too he best keep schtum

annvan hoping that the grumps are the start of something for you (and not just a bad mood!)

Buckets · 01/09/2008 17:28

Vicky, you need to chat to a proper breastfeeding counsellor, they literally have the equivalent of a degree in BFing! If your hospital doesn't have one, try the NCT website for the helpline number.

Albs yay at Henry's weight! You go girl.

CC What a nightmare, have you got anyone you could all go for a sleepover with or invite over (assuming your school starts Wednesday too)? Just to distract DS and give you some company or cuddle baby while you have a hot bath?

Buckets · 01/09/2008 17:28

Oh and paracetamol might help.

alittlebitshy · 01/09/2008 17:32

wish we all lived closer as one of us could have come over and had a baby sleepover to help cavey

AnnVan · 01/09/2008 17:41

CC - I'm really no expert, but from what I've seen on some of the threads on here, it sounds like itcould be mastitis Like ALBS said,it's apity we don't live closer to come and help.

AnnVan · 01/09/2008 17:44

Gah! I really really fancy a cigarette! Why suddenly after all these months?!

Buckets · 01/09/2008 17:45

Here you go CC.

Sazzles thanks for the link - it seemed that the refund possibility was only in the event of a train being cancelled or delayed though? So we might have to check at the ticket office I think.

annvan - think calm, calmer, karma .

MW appt tomorrow so will see whether i am any more than 1cm dilated . Think it is quite funny now (the way that friends/family etc are so on the edge of their seats) that I have given up all idea of controlling this. PIL have taken this week off so will be v funny if she arrives next Sunday (must stop being so evil, must stop being so evil...).

Focusing on all the positives, like no-one in our house (except me) got up until after 9am today . Had a friend with 4 under 6 round today, which took up most of the day so am very chilled out (give it an hour and a bit, bedtime etc and will be v stressed).

Annvan - what about focusing on an 08/09/08 birth date - that would be a good one?!

ellasmum1 · 01/09/2008 18:22

Hi all, first time I've had a chance to get on a computer.
Jack William was born by waterbirth on sat 30th at 2.27pm. He is a huge 10lb 2oz so in keeping with the large baby theme!!!
He had to go to NNU at first as he had a bit a fluid on his lungs but is now thankfully with me on the ward and may be able to come home tomorrow evening.

I am absolutely loved up and enjoying my "babymoon". ANNVAN you have my sympathy I was 4 days overdue and beside myself. I can promise you its SO worth the wait. I have slept so much better without the kicks and the huge bump!

Love and hugs and labour vibes to anyone still waiting xx
