Check out this guy!

AnnVan · 30/08/2008 15:21

Wow! i love that.Somehow I can't see DP doing that! hehe

Buckets · 30/08/2008 15:35

Also, just wanted to reassure any newbie mums I'd frightened that BFing is definitely getting less painful for me at nearly 4wks. Still hurts on latch and letdown but soon stops - think I must just have sensitive nips so will just have to get used to that! Realised today I am no longer using Lansinoh after every feed too so that's a good sign. Kurt also seems to be getting the hang of it, staying on longer to begin with, less spluttering and the overall feed and settle time is getting shorter.

And to everyone: DO NOT BUY TESCO'S OWN BREASTPADS! They are just completely rubbish and not worth the saving. Asda ones are marginally better but I'm afraid brand names are the way forward, esp if you're a superspurter like me!

AnnVan · 30/08/2008 15:53

I just tried the tie again. It still didn't really work that well, but that is DEFINITELY bcause of the enormity of the bump. Bumpreally projects forward a lot as well. So I'm pretty confident that I'll soon have the hang of it once I have a vaguely normal figure again.
I feel like I am just waiting to go into labour though. ho hum

Tis true - but then, I don't think the tie on is actually that difficult, it's just my bump making it look sloppy and go a bit cock-eyed. the bump forces the waist section up which makes the whole thing look odd.
I did consider the close carrier, but it cost a little too much for my liking, and I like the versatility of the wraps.

I'm bored now. GOing to get DP to give LO a talking to. maybe it will listen to Daddy and come on out.

TwilightSurfer · 30/08/2008 16:52

Ann I just tossed a picture that I just snapped up on my photos page of Reese asleep in the Moby. Check it out to see how a REAL PERSON is wrapped. As she gets bigger I will probably get the wrap to look more like the pictures in the booklet. Bealcain has some photos too out on her facebook page. Again, it's easy as long as you avoid perfection.

Nope no action yet. Felt a bit funny in tescos earlier, but that was probably just me feeling crap as usual!

stillhere · 30/08/2008 20:52

Congratulations pf, oops, micromum and stickybean!

Now falling off the end of the list and starting to feel like I'm in the wrong group... ... [whispers] and I hear the September group's not much cop? Besides I don't want to miss out on that all expenses paid Tahiti trip!

Had a stretch and sweep yesterday and all was good but still no real signs here. [drums fingers along edge of moses basket] Had a pineapple too and a couple of goes at 'what got the baby in will get it out' but not much to show except some BH runs. Ho hum. 10 days late is already later than DS was.

Lovely to hear baby news and I'm glad BF is getting easier for some. to Dizzy -you've been through a huge amount recently so I really feel for you as you're going through the mill. Thinking of you.

Will be back on when baby finally makes its debut...

cyteen · 30/08/2008 21:04

My waters broke at around 5.30 thus proving that there is actually a pregnancy going on Been up to the birth centre to get checked and everything is fine, but I'm not actually in labour - I've had one or two isolated cramps but nothing I could honestly identify as a contraction yet. Getting increasing backache and heavy feeling in the pelvis - I presume this is good?

Also, I have a question: the baby was wriggling around like mad for about half an hour prior to waters going, and I felt a sharp stabbing pain like someone poking a finger out of my fanjo. Ten minutes later, water everywhere. Is it possible that his wriggling ruptured the membrane, rather than my body doing it as a pre-labour thing, and if so is there some process that will now tell my body to start contracting? Just curious really.

Am going to spend the evening relaxing, bouncing on birth ball, having warm bath etc. If nothing's happened by Monday morning I'm to go into hospital for augmentation, which tbh is fine by me - I know I'll be worried enough about getting him out safely that I would rather get on it with by then.

Will keep you posted!

TwilightSurfer · 30/08/2008 21:10

Great news Cyteen. I wouldn't worry about how or why your waters broke. Just enjoy the fact that VERY SOON you will be in the delivery room with a newborn.

Stillhere things sound promising for you as well. Sending you and Ann positive vibes.

evening all, having a brief escape from pil!

anyone else on tonight?

thanks to those who answered my question. So your babies seem to be awake and content for alot longer than mine. he's either asleep, awake and crying or feeding. should i be worried?

poppysocks · 30/08/2008 21:54

Congratulations pf, oops, stickybean - sorry if I've forgotten anyone . I'm away for 24 hours and look what happens!

Best of luck cyteen! V. exciting!

Not much to report here except DH's impending return to work on Monday starting to weigh heavily on us and I'm suddenly feeling the tiredness and lack of rest. I guess because I know that there'll be no respite from Monday. Have actually really enjoyed the last few weeks in our own little world.

I think the breastfeeding is getting a bit better here too. Still sore at initial latch, but I seem to have the windiest child in the world. I thought this wasn't supposed to happen with breastfeeding. Any ideas anyone? Have spent a pretty rubbish 24 hours dealing with traumatic hiccups and trapped wind. No sleep going on here....

alittlebitshy · 30/08/2008 22:13

Hello -
ooh cyteen - how 'citin!!!

miamla how's pil's visit?? And in answer to your question - we get soem awake happy tuime, but not heaps in one go. The last 2 days ds has started to get the hang of the baby gym and has whacked a few bits - possibly mostly by accident but it makes his big sister very happy!!!

poppysocks Henry is quite windy too. I though bf babies weren't meant to ither but anyhow.... Are you still mixed feeding? How's that going?

I have a breakthrough i think - this evening i finally caved in and used a nipple shield on my sore sore sore side and it made the feed bearable - to the extent that he got the longest feed he's had on that side for a LONG time!! AND i'm not crying..... I was reluctant to use them cos i did with dd, and ended up stopping feeding on one side (actually my bad side this time) though I'm not sure why i stopped- poss pain was too bad, then milk supply dropped. Then on the other side i never weaned us off the shields. I guess it's not the end of the world if one side is shielded is it???

We are now officially giving Henry a bottle at bedtime and in the middle of the night asnd early morning and I am more chilled for it (even though I've still be stressed about the pain). Mostly it's been ebm - 2 out of 6 have been formula, so I don;t feel too bad esp if we can keep it like that. Dh is doing the feeds and I'm expressing - I can get 6oz in the night and first thing, so that is a whole set of feeds the next night!!!! I know it sounds complex and unnecessary to those finding bf easy etc but it is keeping me on the right side of sane - but until this less painful feed earlier only just!

poppysocks · 30/08/2008 22:29

Glad you're feeling a bit better ALBS and the bottles and nipple shields are helping. After the trouble I had last time (not unlike yours I think) I used nipple shields and when they came out of the box of baby stuff a few weeks ago, I cried, remembering how hard it was. So much admiration for what you're managing.

Yes, still mixing it here, but just the bedtime feed and in the night. Interesting the only one she doesn't have gastric issues after is the before bed one (and she's also going down for at least 5/6 hours afterwards). I'm topping her up after the middle of the night feed with a breast feed (apart from anything else, so I'm not too full in the morning!) but she's sicked up everything - bottle and breast- for the last two nights so tonight going to try leaving it at the bottle only and express. Would love some advice about it other than just 'it's a bad idea'. It seems to be working well here, just needs a bit of finessing.

miamla · 30/08/2008 22:40

pil driving me barmy! i really hope they never find me on here! they're acting like children so we're treating them like children. they're banned from asking questions at the moment!
i hid upstairs with T last night. they reckoned he was overtired, had a tummy ache, was too hot etc etc. i knew he was crying because he was hungry and i'm really cross that i let them try and consol him for so long. i should have just gone with my instinct in the first place. been better today though, i've been much more in control of things with him.

poppy T is windy too but giving him a drop of infacol before a feed seems to really help

i'm feeling a bit of a domestic goddess tonight... i've made a new york style baked cheesecake for lunch tomorrow. just hope it tastes ok as its my contribution to a big family lunch.

albs so pleased everything's looking up. i have no idea about nipple shields but if they help you, why not?

cyteen · 31/08/2008 00:03

miamla my sympathies re. the PIL - be strong!

I'm off to bed, having eaten a big tea and watched Star Wars Have definitely had some contractions but they're still pretty irregular, i.e. had several fairly close together, then bounced on the birth ball and they all stopped I guess it's still early stages yet, so am going to get some rest and see what happens...I shall endeavour to keep you posted

Hi ladies. Restless legs are doing their thing again
Been wandering what happens about the fact that this baby is most likely going to come in September?? Does that mean I get expelled from the August club ?
People keep telling me to enjoy the last few babyless days, but with all the yukky pains, lack of sleep, discomfort, heartburn, sickness etc I just can't enjoy it. I want all the things on that little list to end, and soon!
Hope you are all sleeping well!

Ooh, and good luck Cyteen - hope things are getting moving for you!

Cheers Ann - I really hope things happen for you soon. Know just how you feel on the not enjoying things front, my heartburn was sooooooo bad the last few days, and that was without all the horrid insomnia and stuff.

I've been sleeping on and off, got up to go to the toilet a couple of times and change my pad as am still producing lots of fluid - feel a bit like a sea monster - but still not had much in the way of contractions, just the odd one here and there, and of varying strength. Someone reassure me that labour takes time to establish? Am trying not to worry, but now that it's so close I can't help being anxious about the baby and whether he's ok in there.
