hi cyteen- I'm nothing to do with this thread but yep, I can assure you labour can take ages to establish!

I know it's tough, but try to get lots of rest and maybe have a chat with your baby while you're waiting.

If you're still worried in the (proper) morning then give the birth centre a ring to get advice. Good luck!

cyteen · 31/08/2008 05:35

Aw, thanks pinkmunkee I really appreciate that It's all new to me!

I blame television for all those 'idealised' labours where the woman's waters break, she clutches her tummy and shouts "Oh, I'm having a contraction!", then ten minutes later her baby is born

pinkmunkee · 31/08/2008 05:40

It's so true. Also, don't forget your hormones'll be racing so it may be a bit hard to think straight. How exciting! You have cheered me up actually, I have been up for an hour and a half with a teething 10mo so it's nice to be reminded of the wonders of birth.

Morning I'm okay thanks Sazz, went back to bed for a bit and got some more sleep, have had a nice warm bath and am looking forward to heading to the supermarket soon to get some breakfast. Also plan to stock up on trashy magazines and whatnot. Then we're going to go for some walks, see if we can get things moving along so I can have the birth centre experience I want rather than going in for augmentation tomorrow morning.

In the meantime I am enjoying provoking the baby with ice cold fizzy water Evil mummy, me.

Cancelled my sweep as well (yay ) - the community midwives' office sounded as nonplussed as they always do.

How's everyone else doing this morning?

ataraxis · 31/08/2008 10:22

Morning everyone - good luck cyteen.

This LO is really messing me about. 3 hours of contractions last night, then more from 5.40-8ish this morning, then nothing...

Luckily boys out with PIL today so peace and quiet at home.

Please come soon, please come soon, please come soon. PLEASE don't be another false start!

Skybluebelle · 31/08/2008 10:27

Hope things start moving more quickly for you soon Cyteen. I'm now 11 days past my due date and thoroughly fed up. Had a sweep on Thursday and Friday but no sign of action since. Was meant to be booked in for an induction tomorrow but despite being desperate to have the baby I really want to give my body a chance to do this naturally so have asked to delay the induction for a couple of days (although have to see a consultant on Monday to confirm everything is still ok).

Hope your contractions start being more regular soon! (Seems very strange to be wishing pain on to some one else!)

Skybluebelle · 31/08/2008 10:28

Sorry ataraxis - x post. Hope your contractions get more regular soon as well!

good luck cyteen, skybluebell and ataraxis! hoping things get going for you all today.

still waiting here with no obvious signs of anything happening, so don't worry annvan, you're not alone

AnnVan · 31/08/2008 13:37

Helloo all.
very of cyteen Ataraxis and skybluebell

you and me now WTMC
I'm only one day overdue, so trying not to be too impatient. hmmm.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 31/08/2008 13:50

Hope things are happening for Cyteen and Annvan

BF going ok here, just tried marcus with some expressed bm in a bottle and he took to it straight away.
Feel bit rough today, not sure if eaten something dodgy or just reaction to floradix iron tabs. Cant believe constipated one day then.... TMI sorry.

Mw just been and signed me off but thinks I could be getting a water infection. GREAT.

Annvan this sling deciding is doing my head in, I cant decide between moby wrap. moby d, tricot or ring sling.
Would be good to get one that could be used for dd too.

AnnVan · 31/08/2008 13:56

no1 - try really glugging down lots of water - might help stave off infection, it's worked for me in the past! Lol about the sling thing - that's why I just jumped in and got one, I just couldn't do with all that deliberation. Definitely didn't want a ring sling, as it looks like it would play havoc with my back, whereas the wraps distribute weight more evenly. Woven wraps are supposed to be best for heavier children I've read, but please don't take advice from me - I'm definitely no expert!

ataraxis · 31/08/2008 14:08

nothing going on here now - will check in later. trying to think LABOUR, LABOUR, LABOUR!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 31/08/2008 14:12

sending labour vibes

Annvan yes I drinking lots of water, also just drank half a large carton of cranberry.

I suffer with bad back so will avoid the ring sling.
Really like look of moby, just cant decide between moby wrap or mocy d.
Also can you put newborn in MOBY without putting legs through bottom, Just concerned they look a bit squashed and exposed. IYKWIM

cyteen · 31/08/2008 14:30

Labour vibes all round the waiting room!

Nothing much has changed since I last checked in - not leaking so much water, but just had some bright red blood and a few small clots. Rang the birth centre and mw says this sounds quite normal, hopefully it's a sign of my cervix opening further, but I'll keep an eye on it just in case.

It's hammering down with rain here, so no walking for me atm Contractions still irregular and of varying strength, but just had the strongest one yet so am keeping my fingers crossed that I'm moving in the right direction

AnnVan · 31/08/2008 14:33

Cyteen - exciting
No1 - yes, there's a position called the newborn hug hold, which is a sort o upright position, but with the legs tucked inside the sling, and there's the cradle carry, which is a more horizontal position. The instructions say that when baby is ready to stop being carried in the newborn hug hold, it will start stretching its legs, but until then, the legs stay in fetal position in the sling.

AnnVan · 31/08/2008 14:35

Actually no1 just look on TS's profile, she's put a pic of Reese in the Moby sling on, except you can't actually see any of Reese at all, cos she's totally in the sling!

sambo303 · 31/08/2008 15:07

Sympathy to all ladies in the waiting room - I'm still here too but have decided either me or the baby is French so we're going to 41 weeks (full term according to the French)

feels great, pressure's off - went out on a day trip yesterday and picnic-ed baby? what baby?

AnnVan · 31/08/2008 15:15

Hehe Sambo! I am also trying not to get too worked up about it. I keep having random pains etc, but I'm trying not to think about these, as they are probably nothing. Baby obviously holding out for the next school year!

AnnVan · 31/08/2008 17:23

Just saw on another thread that Lcy is in hospital unwell. There's a rant on her behalf, because hospital gave her meds contraindicated for bf, so baby is being FF'd by hospital staff!

Well done Sazzles It feels good doesnt it. I managed it again tonight, had a stinking headache all day that just wont shift, and been drinking gallons of water to fend of possible water infection.

I put dd one end of bath, bravely used other end to bath ds.
Then dressed him and topped him up whilst sat at side of bath, layed him in his crib and he settles long enough just for me to get dd ready for bed read stories and give milk etc....

He just started to stir when I went for him for rest of his feed.

Talk about having to be organised

Dh been to pub for 2 hours today to see his dad. Usual sunday ritual when he isnt at work.
So I prepared tes, then he went and slept all afternoon, decided to wake up when dc are asleep.

I appreciate he is tired too, but annoyed because its the few beers in the day that make him tired, after all its me awake in the night and me that gets up with dd in the morning...

Sorry rant over

oopsacoconut · 31/08/2008 20:28

Hi all

Congrats to everyone ho has had their little bundles.

Well our bundle of adorableness (is that a word???) Arrived on Saturday morning at 5.15 am after a short but induced labour. I went in on the 24th Aug to Labour suite with minor bleeding - they kept me in as it was a small placental abruption and sending me home was too dangerous. Was on the ward and doc said if ir doesn't stop we will induce you - the same phrase was repeated but 3 other doctors on the next 3 days!!!!! The final doc was a woman who decided to induce and on thursday evening i was given the first does of prostin gel - buy 9pm I was contracting every 3 mins but i couldn't feel anything [???] by 2 am they had worn off or so i thought. I went down from the ward Friday morning to l&d to be checked and apparently they were still happening but not hard enough, sent for a stomp to bring her down at 1pm - apparently stronger and closer together [all i could feel was periody backache] they broke my waters at 6pm and it all stopped[???] So i was told they would be putting up syntocinin drip to get things moving and would call epidural man when i was established - refused that offer and said epidural first then drip - I didn't want anyone to play with my back during painful contractions. Epi in at 9pm drip up at 11.30pm active labour at 11.35. I had a check at midnight - 3-4cms but still high and cervix thick. Had a sleep, at 4am they checked me with thoughts of emergency section if I had not progressed, but i was fully dialated and ready to push, pushed once and was told to stop, there wasn't another midwife around to help with delivery so hung on for 40mins and started pushing at 4.55am, second midwife appeared and I pushed, 20mins later at 5.15am our little girl was born comming out back to back and her shoulders out sideways resulting in a 2nd degree tear in a place not usually torn. I apparently snatched her from the midwife. DH cut cord and we snuggled as a family for a while, dh took Poppy and I was stitched. Up on ward by 8.30 am home today very happy and contented. She seems to have read the BF manual and latched well 5 mins after delivery, feeding every 2-3 hours for about 4mins.

She is currently sleeping on Daddys chest and I am catching up in a weeks MN.

Sorry for the novel - I can't believe I'm a mummy.

GOod luck all those waiting- it is so very worth it!

poppysocks · 31/08/2008 21:35

Congratulations Oops and, for such proficient and regular feeding thus far, Poppy! Great to hear from you.

Hope all is going well with you cyteen. Can't wait to hear!

All well here. After a really good night of sleep last night, with just one quick interruption for a feed, I'm feeling human again. Still dreading DH's return to work tomorrow, but that's just because I'm lazy and am not looking forward to the hard work of two small people. Physically, feeling totally back to normal actually (apart from huge milky boobs . I guess that all being well they'll be hanging(!) around for some time).
