Hello all!
well I went out for dinner with DP. Our last hurrah. From now on, we can't decide on a whim to go out. We'll have to arrange childcare etc in advance etc. Oh well.
Tell you what, Italian people obviously don't have problems with preg women drinking. The manager came and brought us a drink on the house - 'not strong' he says ' only 20%' I drank it though well I doubt it's going to do much harm at this stage, and I didn't want to offend him, seeing as I hardly touched my main because I came over all queasy.

ANd came home to find out SIL is all traumatised as her boyfriend has dumped her - by txt message!
TBH most of us have had reservations about the guy for some time, but she wouldn't listen to anyone who tried to broach the subject, no matter how delicately they tried to do it.

ChaCha · 28/08/2008 22:58

Hi everyone,

Hey Albs - Well, we had a good latch and DS fell asleep after about 30 minutes, then he woke up unsettled. Fed again. End of day - was shattered, feeling like milking machine, DS's playing up and tired. Gave him a top up and lo and behold...guess who is snoring?! So am sat with my feet up before bed. Think DH has fallen asleep putting the other two to their bed. Everyday i have this great plan of action that's going to happen when the boys are in bed and baby is between feeds...but it gets to this time of night and i couldn't care less if there is still that massive pile of washing/ironing/toys etc.. to deal with, i just want to collapse before i have to feed him again. Ooops gone off on a tangent, what i'm saying Albs was meant to be don't beat yourself up about it, it's great to just get a few hours kip, happy sleepy baby, happy mum and a chance to just feel slightly more human again. Can honestly say night feeds are easier as are cluster feeds when i've had a little respite from it when most needed - hang on in there!

Em...came on to 'talk' to some of you but i seem to have lost the plot. Was good to read taht am not alone in outbreaks of tears for no apparent reason. Almost cried when a horrid lady on bus had a go at me when i was struggling to get off (wheel wouldn't maneouvre round pole easily thanks to other lady's bulky pram that wouldn't budge) and at DH telling me he's going away for 10 days even though my dad will stay with me but dad can only do so much and will be no help when the boys decide it's playtime at 3am and guzzler needs yet another feed....

AnnVann - (just rmemebered see!) - at mothercare! and meant to post other comments but all gone have been sat here ages and best get up to bedas you can see i am killing the thread with my waffle as very very tired...

pass the chutney on ya left hand side Sazzles....dum diddly dum...

Hello all!

Our little boy has arrived! On Tuesday, late at night. I had a water birth at the local midwife-led unit, just what I wanted. In fact, everything was lovely, just me, my DH, a midwife, a mile away from home (although that mile seemed like 100 when I was in labour and felt every pothole!). I laboured at home until 9.45pm, arrived at unit and was 10 cm dilated on examination so straight into the pool, gas and air and our son was delivered at 11.33pm, at 7lb 14oz. No tearing, no stitches, although I still feel like I've been hit by a cricket bat...

He's beautiful, still nameless (although TS you'll be pleased to know that Owen is still on the table ) and feeding well.

So glad that the labour went so well and I could put a whole load of 'stuff' about DS1's delivery to bed now that I have something else to compare it to.

Will let you know when we decide on a name!

CONGRATS LIBBY!!!

OP posts:
ataraxis · 29/08/2008 03:58

Congratulations Libby - fantastic news, and brilliant that you had the birth experience you were hoping for.

LoW - fingers crossed for you and babe.

pf, fun isn't it , interesting to see how no3 works... btw MW today told me she wasn't suprised about the coming and going of labour feelings etc, she is the 3rd MW to tell me that 3rd babies are notorious . When is DD's party?

chacha at DH going away for that long at this stage. Hope it all goes ok for you. At least there is a good chance you will have company on here at 3am .

sazzles - how do you (or rather how does your dad) know if your tomato plants have blight? Mine are outside and still v green - but gradually turning so i am hoping...

karney · 29/08/2008 07:25

congratulations libby

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 29/08/2008 07:51

Congratulations Libby
Sounds like a lovely labour.

Morning everyone I am feeling much better today....so far...

Managed a little walk yesterday with dh we just walked to the local park and played with dd on slide etc...
Was a lovely breeze which I think blew a few cobwebs away. IYKWIM also managed a few tears before we went. Dh was quite sympathetic.
Although I was aching like mad in pelvis/hip joint area, very strange.

Sister taking dd out today with her 3 before they go back to school, so think Me and dh may venture out with ds to buy him some clothes.

BF seems to be going well too, Marcus going longer between feeds but did have a mammoth feeding session from around 11pm till 2.30am and 5 dirty nappies in that time

Hope there is more news of babies when I check in later.

PetitFilou1 · 29/08/2008 08:48

congratulations to libbysister - nice textbook birth!

ataraxis I've had a similar number of mws saying the same thing about 3rd births. Having some pains just now (dh about to go out!) so will see if things kick off or not

btw I've also got tomatoes growing in the back garden that are slowly turning - wouldn't know what blight looked like either!

dd's party is on 6 September - thank god I didn't arrange it for this weekend...

Morning all

congrats to new arrivals, commiserations to all still waiting (myself included).

was most relieved to read elsewhere on this site that french doctors call 41 weeks full term - I am obviously of french extraction

NCT friend told us all about her birth yesterday - emergency CS after failure to progress - 8 hours to get 1.5cm then a further 8 hours and she was 1cm - why does this happen??

plan on weeding the garden today...

Sausageandmash · 29/08/2008 09:42

Another 'dip' in from me - haven't had much time to surf/post it seems! Just wanted to say hello to all - LIbbysister - congratulations on the birth of your son -you were my original, pre c-sec due date - so I feel like I've been 'with you' in spirit!

Hope the waiting isn't getting too much for the rest of you - clearly your little ones want to hang on for the new academic year in September!

CaptainC - I noticed your post about your c-section scar - this was my second c-section and they went in through the original scar. It's all healed fairly well, although it's much lumpier than the old one, but I've been left with a big numb spot too, just above the scar plus a pretty hideous over-hang. Does anyone know if either the numbness or the over-hang are likely to disappear ... as if by magic, or with a bit of exercise (hah! that's likely!)?

cyteen · 29/08/2008 10:10

Morning all,

Huge congratulations to libbyssister on the birth of your lovely boy, what a wonderful birth story - I can almost forgive you for deserting your due date buddies

(((hugs))) to ataraxis and pf, I don't know how you ladies do it with two other LOs to look after already - I am miserable enough just waiting for my first to arrive, so hats off to you both, you are clearly superstars.

Still nothing to report this end, but DP and I are now actually hoping El Squid will stay put till Monday and be a September baby. If he's going to be late, he might as well get the benefit of being in the supposedly more beneficial school year Of course, having decided this we have likely guaranteed that he'll turn up on Sunday morning...awkward child.

Having said that, my original due date (by LMP) was 2nd September, so it's entirely possible that that is my due date iyswim and that I'm not actually overdue yet. Either way, I'm not feeling any twinges so am hoping for a quiet weekend and maybe the start of labour on Sunday night

Am generally much more cheery today - DP came home last night and presented me with a load of DVDs and a big box of chocs, sat me down on the sofa and proceeded to make dinner and clear up He's so lovely

PetitFilou1 · 29/08/2008 10:19

Hello all
HAVE BEEN HAVING CONTRACTIONS FOR PAST HOUR!!!! Fingers crossed - they are sporadic but definitely there. Hope I haven't jinxed this by coming on here as I know there is a possibility they may just stop - it being 'notorious third birth' as it was again described this morning by on call mw when I called her.

cyteen Your dp is a star - I'm hoping mine gets home soon as he's out at the tile shop atm!

cyteen · 29/08/2008 10:21

Ooh, how exciting! Is it you that has a history of fast labours pf? You could be in for another quickie if so

VintageGardenia · 29/08/2008 10:21

Well done libbyssister and congratulations. Delighted it all went so well for you!

pf wow your pink buttons cake sounds fab, your lucky dd. You do realise you may have to cancel the party, though, 6th Sept, are you bonkers? Or at the very least get us all round to be co-hosts while you cosy up in bed with little X. Now I hope things are on the move for you today.

sazzles yes please to chutney, am very partial to a little cheddar, water biscuit and chutney. Very of your domestic goddess tendencies while you express / feed / cope!!

ChaCha I mean this in the nicest possible way but reading your post you sound EXHAUSTED. Through it, though, seems you're doing really well. at bus lady for you, what an old troll.

Re. sicking up, he still is having lots of dirty and wet nappies so I assume he's keeping enough in to keep things going. Will get him weighed properly next week too.

Re. piles, fissures, so sorry to harp on about this vile subject but can anyone explain how you would know which it was? No visible / touchable external lump. Vv painful (stinging, tears in eyes type) when going to loo. Blood visible.

I got a witch hazel thing as advised here, this one, but when I looked it up to give a link I discover it's some sort of aftershave! Believe me, I have NOT been shaving my bottom. [no emoticon strong enough for this]

X-POST PF BLARDY GOOD NEWS!!!!!! I am so pleased. Here you go!

cyteen · 29/08/2008 10:23

VG, that sounds to me more like a fissure - I've had one of those and what you describe is all too familiar to me Not really sure what to advise if it is, though. The times when mine reopened, I just used to grit my teeth and ride it out. If that isn't too wince-inducing a metaphor.

VintageGardenia · 29/08/2008 10:25

is it possible it came during pushing stage? So just like any cut to the skin you just have to let it heal? A little arnica cream maybe?

cyteen · 29/08/2008 10:30

I'd imagine it's possible to sustain one during pushing. Mine (and I apologise now for the inevitable TMI) can only have occurred as a result of passing a particularly awkward stool, as it happened when I was a teenager and certainly far too young for, um, any other explanation! I did see the doctor and seem to remember she just advised letting it heal as there isn't much they can do...a stool softener might be a good idea at this stage though...

VG I think you missed my post yesterday on piles/fissures - if v v painful (like pooing glass) it is probably a fissure. If you go the GP they can give you something to treat it - but you will need them to have a look AND make sure they don't prescribe steroid pessaries without looking (as they would for piles) as that will actually make a fissure worse. Dh was really really angry when that happened to me onc. It happened because both me and the very young male GP were too embarrassed and I didn't want him looking!

cyteen yes it is me with history of fast births -but as you can see I am still on here atm so nothing happening anytime soon! Cervix is doing the dilating thing I think - am contracting about every 10 minutes or so

PetitFilou1 · 29/08/2008 10:34

VG Just asked dh and it is a nitrate cream you need if if it if a fissure

VintageGardenia · 29/08/2008 10:40

Oh pf thank you! And thank DH.

I can't believe you are prescribing for other people's bottoms while commencing labour.

cyteen let me assure you no OTHER possible explanation!!!

poppysocks · 29/08/2008 10:43

Ooh, how exciting pf. Good luck! Although with your track record of speedy births, maybe you already have LO in your arms...

Congratulations libbyssister! So glad it all went well.Know what you mean about a good birth helping to cancel out the bad birth. Same here too and such a relief.

Just had ok from Dr to start driving again. Yay!

Feeling shattered here after all night marathon. DD2 woke up starving and managed to empty me totally. Then brought it all up. Spent the next 3 hrs trying to get out every last drop. So frustrating but my fault for being lazy and letting her guzzle. Feeding again now in the hope that we'll both get some shut eye soon.

ellasmum1 · 29/08/2008 10:54

congratulations to libbyssister, I'm hoping for a waterbirth this time! No signs of this baby budging yet though.
Good luck pf, more !
And congrats to all the other new mums too x
