Choc I like Elvis - but as hana said, you'd need to be a robust kind of lad, not a shy one. One of our boy's name possibilities has Elvis as a middle name.
hana Dolly is def short for Dolores, and Dorothy would be abbreviated to Dottie.

twinklingfairy · 02/09/2008 22:43

My brother liked the name Derry, I thought that was quite a nice name.
Ooh though, just looked it up, it means red.
You can have it if you like, I won't be using it.
I liked Owen, but someone up the road has a wee boy by that name, so I won't use it either.

ChocOrange05 · 02/09/2008 22:45

Uh oh - we are running out of space ladies - new thread name ideas needed pronto!! Maybe we should go with the name theme??

Or alternatively - we could steal the name from the note my kind colleague stuck on my bump the other day, which would make it:

Due Nov 2008 - WARNING Explosion Risk

I liked Elvis for ds1, but was laughed off by every single person in the family. It's very cool with our surname. Quite like Lawrence/ Lawrie.

MerryMarigold · 02/09/2008 22:53

ChocO - just read your post belatedly. I like both names, Flynn is funky too - but my heart is with Elvis! If you have the support of your dh in this, you are a lucky gal. It is a very cool name (and I am not particularly an Elvis fan), but it just IS a great sounding name. Girls..Brooke?

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 22:53

lol choco, I think we might need the rain cover to be a raincover tomorrow morning.

Have put the seat liner in the dryer to see if that works. Here's hoping it doesn't shrink!

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 22:59

Lawrence is our middle name, after my dear old Dad.

Am all out of inspriation on thread titles I'm afraid.....brain is officially mush

MerryMarigold · 02/09/2008 22:59

We have 2 boys names, Elliot and James. They both go with a different girl's name, so we're gonna take a look at the babies and decide. They are both fairly ubiquitous boy's names (girl's more unusual), but ds1 is Oliver which is also in the top 5 (unbeknownst to us when we picked it ). I nearly rejected names on the basis of popularity but then thought: don't be so ridiculous, if you actually agree on something then go for it (and believe it or not we did not agree on any other boys' names).

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 23:06

I like Elliot, but our niece is called ellie, so that's out really. We like a lot of names starting with E, but DD's does as well, and not sure aboutn them bothe having the same initial.

DH is still liking Samuel.....but baby would be Samuel L J.......(pretty well known american actor), so I'm not sure, even though I love the name as well.

We just can't agree on anything, and at this rate, Virgil will probably stick

PInkyminkyohnooo · 02/09/2008 23:11

Virgil lol poor thing... I do know a girl whose bump name was Elvis and it stuck as a nickname- except it's pronounced more as LV these days, not she is all grown up and about 8..so Virgil could well stick, too.

Well none of you have come up with any M names for me. I am very disappointed.

Oblomov · 03/09/2008 08:04

Morning.
My sickness tablets seem to be working a treat and I feel alot better.

Cricri, Elise was my favourite for a girl aswell. And I liked Amelia.

Max and Sam are our faves for our ds2.

Right new thread title required. Quickly. Another nice PMA one ? It has set us in good stead, hasn't it ?

Oblomov · 03/09/2008 08:07

How about a "nearly there" title ?

mum2becks · 03/09/2008 08:31

wow you lot were chatty yesterday, started to catch up last night but was so much that I gave up and went to bed!! Just caught up this morning so just managed it before we start a new thread

Love all the names everyone is choosing/considering, we have had real problems agreeing on names this time, as I love dd's name and wanted a name that goes with hers too, think we have finally decided on Hannah for a girl and Isaac for a boy! But want to have a middle name so got to go through it all again now trying to find a 2nd name that we both like, easier said than done

Not sure on new thread title, brain is definately not working well at the moment, especially when I have had a bad nights sleep!!

LadyBuzz · 03/09/2008 08:53

I am really set on my names Sia Margaret or Jay Charles but someone pointed out to me yesterday that they might not suit the baby so we might need to start thinking of backups .
I have managed to find out the meaning of Sia - Calm Beliver - I'm liking the Calm!
and I still really love it.
Elise was in our top 5 with DS, I like loads of names but DH never agrees!
Love everyones ideas, on the Elvis front a girl I used to work with called her DS Presley! - Not sure about that one
DS is poorly too he has had a raging temperature through the night and says his ears hurt, hes currently tucked up on the sofa with a blanket bless im which isn't like him at all and I'm taking him to the Doctors later this AM poor love.
Heartmum love Zach William and even better if it makes the in laws mad!!

MonkeyMargot · 03/09/2008 09:25

Pinky - I like Brooke - but the only Brooke I know is an Australian pole dancer
OK - M Names:
Margot!!! (or Monkey?!)
Melissa
Melody
Molly
Maisie
Mathilda
Mabel

MonkeyMargot · 03/09/2008 09:26

P.S. I'm 31 weeks today, just taken a photo of my bump and posted it

Pinkali37 · 03/09/2008 09:30

I like

Esme, Matilda, Emily, Olivia (but getting too common), Ameilia

For a boy we have one name; Henry William, also liked Oscar but a friend of ours has a dog called Oscar. Oh and liked George too but think will probably stick to Henry William, plus I think s/he is a girl!!!

ChocOrange05 · 03/09/2008 10:10

Morning all

Pinky - I went to bed last night just after reading your post so of course I was awake for ages trying to think of names that begin with 'M'!! So here are the ones I like / can think of:

  • Matilda
  • Maia
  • Mae
  • Marianne

I also like the name Isadora for a girl, but we can't have it as we already used it for our cat - but thought I would share it in case anyone else likes it. Also, for anyone looking for an unusual name, mine is very rare - D.a.n.i.y.a!

Monkey love the bump photo - its another very neat one!

ceebee74 · 03/09/2008 11:06

Gosh you lot were chatty after I had gone to bed last night!! It has taken me till now to catch up - besides, people keep coming in my office and interrupting - how rude!!

Right, names! We decided months ago what we were calling baby and we are not budging from it as it was the only boys name that me and DH could agree on - even DS refers to my bump as 'baby Sam' now - however, from this thread, it would appear that there may be 3 Sam's on the post-natal thread . Full name will be Samuel Jake.

I do like Flynn, not keen on Elvis though (sorry!) Can't remember all other suggestions but have not seen any that I have thought 'ugh' at. I think Dolly is quite sweet aswell.

Am also nervous about my secret stork - was surfing last night and struggling to find something special - I thought it would be really easy aswell!

ruthosaurus · 03/09/2008 11:29

Goodness me - what a lot of chat I missed out on yesterday! Names: we have a 1 syllable surname, so need a more complicated first name, plus the little one gets 2 middle names as it's a DH family tradition. If it's a boy, it gets Richard Christopher as its middle names after a much missed friend and both fathers in law, respectively.

Love Flynn - one of my faves is Finlay but I don't know if it means anything. I quite like all those old 19th century northern industrialist names like Obadiah and Jebediah as well.

DH like Sam for a boy or a girl but I am not as keen, no particular reason and not massively anti, but I'm just not feeling it.

I think girls' names are harder. I need a name with a bit of pizzazz to it, as both its parents are swotty and nerdy types so it's got to swim upriver, DNA wise... So far I like:
Tallulah
Jemima (I know, makes you think Puddleduck)
Abigail
Madeleine
Leia (did I mention nerdy?)
Esmerelda
Maia/Maya

DH does not much like any of these apart from Madeleine, especially Tallulah, which is my fave but which he claims would constitute child abuse.

LadyBuzz · 03/09/2008 11:54

new thread

Hope this works its my first time!

Sharon13 · 03/09/2008 19:39

Hey All, Newbie here, due first baby on21st November. Have been flicking through all the threads and found this one....although you are a busy lot and I admit to only having skim read most of your posts

Am counting down the weeks till finish up at work, then will start worrying about d-day!!!! So far been a reasonably okay pregnancy and am loving the shopping for cute little clothes and the big project just now is getting the nursery sorted - very excited

Take care all....will try to check in every day as this thread does seem to move along pretty quickly

sparkletoes · 03/09/2008 20:16

Sharon13 - click on LadyBuzz's new thread link - we've all moved and there are 3 pages of chat already!! x

P.S Welcome!

vbab78 · 03/09/2008 20:34

lacks - LOL at those shoes. Honestly could you imagine "Cher" in her ones strutting her stuff!

up north/middle get together. Thought if no one objects might start a separate thread? Just me being me I am finding it hard to remember who has said they are interested in meeting up, where they are from, suggestions and dates etc. Shall I do it?

Since starting my leave Monday (31wks) just seem to want to crash and burn. But no chance of that with DS to look after. Also had my mum walking me for miles Mon-Wed this week for an outfit for a family wedding in Scotland. Yesterday, whilst following mum around, felt really ill like I could collapse or throw up or all of the above. I think maybe I had a stomach bug but a lot I think has to do with my lack of food and it being c**p when I do eat. Just have no appetite for "proper" food.

secret stork - Got my email too and really excited but just hope don't disappoint. Sorry for being a little thick but do we say whom the present is from or is it "secret" as the name suggests? Can't believe I just asked that!
