It was Bealcain because I remembering thinking that's the strangest thing in the world NOT to get while in the hospital.

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 14/08/2008 10:18

Guess what I did before bed last night. I feel off my porch. Somehow I either missed the ONE step from the porch to the walk OR I made it but my leg collasped. Either way I found myself in the all fours position, balancing belly in mid-air. I sat there for a minute waiting for baby to move, when she did I was like...maybe NOW my labour will start. NOPE! DH got a little mad when heard my story. Oh well. Now I have a Hello Kitty bandage on my knee and a sore wrist. Pregnancy is DANGEROUS!!

TwilightSurfer · 14/08/2008 10:18

annvan ewwww full fat milk - rather you than me. I could never drink it even as a child! Hope it works for you though

These hospitals and their policies - I'm coming over all Daily Mail 'Has the World Gone Mad' style

AnnVan · 14/08/2008 10:46

PF - when I was very little, my parents had a small farm with Jersey cows. Drinking Jersey milk reminds me of that time now. Normally use semi-skimmed milk, but for drinking, theres something special about Jersey.

QUestion for TS - again in movies etc, whenever someone has a baby, you always see the baby put in a room with all the other babies that have been born. Is this really how things are done in the states? Are mums and their new babies separated like that? Or is this just movieland?

THe milk hasnt worked this time, gave up and had gaviscon.

AnnVan · 14/08/2008 10:49

Poor Sazzles. When Ihad to go to hospital due to Hyperemesis, i thankfully had the option of discharging myself, which I duly did, as the doctors were so busy it would have been a long wait.

AnnVan · 14/08/2008 10:51

Right, I'm going to go have a shower and actually get dressed. I have been sitting around wearing nothing but one of DPs Tshirts since 6.30
Oh dear.

AnnVan · 14/08/2008 11:26

I killed the thread!

cyteen · 14/08/2008 11:28

Morning all,

AnnVan so glad to hear you finally got some sleep

I am excited for FHLH! Here's hoping she's enjoying a doves+harps style labour right now

Still rather jealous though... Was lying in bed last night feeling some very odd feelings, clenching backaches and pains like a band around my tummy and back...they were long though, and I only had a few, so I'm thinking it was probably just indigestion Kept dreaming that I was going into labour and checking my knickers every time I woke up to see if I'd had any show. Needless to say, have had nada and baby still seems firmly wedged in my pelvis.

Oh well, pineapple and RLT all round again then!

PetitFilou1 · 14/08/2008 11:40

cyteen sounds like warning contractions to me. I shall be most annoyed if you beat me to it

TS at plaster

sazzles not surprised at long wait - very tedious. I was tempted just to get up and go last time.

annvan the thread is not dead - don't worry!

cyteen · 14/08/2008 11:44

Hehe, I'll race ya!

TwilightSurfer · 14/08/2008 11:45

Ann, movie land rings true yet again. In most situations you give birth in a labor & delivery room. There's a team of folks for you and a team of folks for the baby. Following the birth, you're given about an hour more in the labor & delivery room to bond with baby and get stitched and stuff. After that, you are wheeled to a recovery room and the baby is taken to the nursery (with all the other little babies) to be checked over, properly cleaned up, and monitored for as long as four hours. After that mommy and baby are reunited. Baby can remain with mother for the duration in her recovery room OR mother can choose to send baby back to the nursery in order to rest or recover IYKWIM. But yes, there is a wonderful room that houses loads of babies with a big window for all to look in and ooohh and aaahhh over them. Last Sunday morning when I went to maternity to be checked there were five babies in the nursery at 4am.

ataraxis · 14/08/2008 11:49

Morning(ish).

Hope everyone is doing well.

sazzles - how boring...

cyteen I didn't have a show with either of the boys, and waters broke very late (in final stages) with both of them. So don't be fooled into thinking just because those haven't happened means it isn't happening

fhlh - good luck!

very gorgeous and sunny here mostly - except for the 5 minute monsoon we had, after which DH realised he had left the car windows open - soggy car...

PetitFilou1 · 14/08/2008 12:04

TS FOUR hours - tis definitely different over there.

cyteen I'm the same as ataraxis - no show or waters breaking until the last minute. Not fair to race me I'm four years older than you and you'll win However maybe I've got a 'more exercised' uterus on the other hand

TwilightSurfer · 14/08/2008 12:12

PF...4 is just about the max number. It really depends on the number of babies in the nursery, their needs and such. When DD1 was born I think they were understaffed so I sent DH down to get her after a little while. Hers was an uncomplicated birth so we didn't worry about any monitoring. She only left the room one other time to have a her photo taken.

This time I'll be in a labor, deliver & recovery room and from what I've heard they try to do everything for the baby there. That's the difference between the main hospital and the birthing center.

OP posts:
PetitFilou1 · 14/08/2008 12:25

TS Just surprised that's all. Over here the baby generally isn't taken away much at all unless it needs extra help. Don't think either of mine were even washed - I know that sounds grim but they kind of leave you to it!

AnnVan · 14/08/2008 12:36

Sounds so strange. Here the emphasis is on bonding. Baby is only taken away from mum if its got something seriously wrong and needs special care. It is deliberate - the mw's say they try make sure you're together as soon as poss, as much as poss.

AnnVan · 14/08/2008 12:47

Possible TMI here, but my nipples have got really huge. I've always liked having quite little ones, and now I've got ginormous ugly ones

sarahnh · 14/08/2008 12:52

hey everyone,

just checking in.. have my gorgeous Tess on my shoulder and i am in heaven...

hope you are on your way home Sazzle..

C'mon TS.. you have got to be going into hve your baby soon ..

Yeah fhlg on your waters breaking, fingers crossed for a quick delivery..

cannot remember anything else but thinking of all those waiting to pop xx

ellasmum1 · 14/08/2008 12:57

congrats on getting some sleep AnnVan! I am still finding it tricky(now 38 + 2 days) but weirdly sleep much moe comfortably in the day (maybe coz I have whole double bed to myself!). Of course this then means sleep is not going to improve at night! Am sooo fed up being huge and waddling and achy.

ALBS - how is your dd adjusting? My dd is 5 and a half and I'm apprehensive about how she'll feel when our baby boy arrives...

Congrats to to all with new babies, i'm very jealous!

Good luck foghorn too! I saw some of your posts on other threads and know you have been as impatient for labour as I am since 37/38 weeks!
I must try and post a bit more instead of just lurking..

ellasmum1 · 14/08/2008 12:59

AnnVan- my nipples are the same- like bloody fruit pastilles!! Its good for tempting baby to feed(if you want to breastfeed) though.
