I'm really sorry I come across as such a whinge I'm not normally like this, honest! Anyway, have resolved that I am not going to let myself get stressed if I don't get to sleep tonight.

I might ask MIL if she would mind.

Is an outie really that bad? Mine is very deinitely outie at the moment. Cant be like DP's little half-sister - her belly button is really odd - about an inch long and like a tube, you can stick your finger in it. MIL is putting off getting it surgically fixed, but I really think she ought to get it sorted out sooner rather than later, after all when she starts school, she's bound to get grief over it. Kids can be so cruel.

Sazzles I have pillows and a blanket here on the sofa as I've found times when I get tired but as you say hauling mysel to bed woke me up. Doesn't always work, but at least I don't end up waking poor DP hopping in and out of bed like a jack in the box.

at MIL!! OMG - sounds a bit like DP's nanna though. Thankfully we don't have that much contact with her. My MIL is lovely, thank goodness. I'd rather live close to her than close to my actual parents
Mind you, she might do a Jekyll and Hyde after baby's born. I doubt it though - she has a toddler to contend with, she's unlikely to get all interfering with a grandchild.

Hello all, sorry not to post earlier ... a mammoth post coming up.

It's been really helpful reading all your breast feeding comments. Here is our experience so far ...

Tom was back in hospital under the UV lamp for a couple of days with jaundice he needed to spend most of his time under the lamp and to have a high intake to increase the excretion of the bilirubin - as I was not very good at breast feeding (only day 4) and this needed lots of time the nurses said that we had to give him formula top up (some of the nurses I felt were really poor - but some were very supportive, and so although I still feel very cross about this I guess that it was the right step, as his jaundice did improve quickly and so we could come home).

When we came home the paediatrician said that given that he had been taking so much formula in hospital he should carry on with this on discharge - more or less if he has been feeding for an hour and still seems to be hungry then we should give him some formula.

Needless to say this makes me feel rubbish, and I hate doing it. It also makes me feel rubbish that I feed him for an hour, he still cries, we give him some formula and he falls straight asleep. ho hum.

I hope that we can stop giving him formula in the coming weeks, but I guess maybe not. Oh well, am trying to come to terms with this not being the end of the world.

I have a couple of questions for breast feeding counsellors out there:

Tom is taking 40ml of formula top up about 4 times a day. He was born a week ago at 4.8kg - any ideas what percentage of formula/breast milk he is getting?

Also any advice on how to cut down the formula?

Finally - those of you who do mammoth 4 hour feeds - do you really have milk for all four hours?

My bump was just the WEIRDEST shape! It looked positiively deformed. Normally bumpy scrunches right upon the right so that the right side o the bump is all hard and bulgy. This time, well can't even describe what it looked like

Sazzles, doc told me yesterday once the baby hits 2oz feedings (60ml) her weight will be begin to increase (now he failed to say how many 2oz feedings a day). Mind you Reese only dropped 5oz in two days and is putting away her 60mls now but I thought that might help you gage things for Emma.

Cyteen, I had a colposcopy just two years ago... can't say it had any effect on me going any faster (or failing as my particular case seems to have been). Can't even see how that procedure would have anything to do with a birth experience at all really. Good idea to just toss out that random oddity by mw.

I'm going to try and stay tight with the thread because I may hit a really hard wall soon. The more I think about my emgCS the madder I get. I feel so unprepaired for life like it is at the moment. DH is being extra wonderful and MIL is here until Sunday but STILL I feel broken despite the fact I'm apparently recovering quickly.
