pf thanks for the info re. engagement. I do wonder whether I'll labour fast or slow...my mum's first labour took ages, apparently, so I'm not holding out much hope for a short'n'sweet version. On the other hand MIL has repeatedly told DP that I am 'made for having babies' so who knows? (I think she was just trying to encourage him to get on with it.)

Was a bit annoyed at last mw appt actually, because she suddenly started asking me about the two colposcopies I had a grillion years ago and saying that sometimes the treatment can make you dilate really fast. I'm fairly sure I didn't have any treatment, as the cervical staining showed that everything was clear, but still, nice and reassuring that absolutely no one had thought to mention this to me until now!

Hi Ann Glad you slept; I think at this stage it doesn't matter so much when it happens, just as long as it does happen.

The day has got away from me again...am upstairs trying to set up a workstation in the attic (don't ask), and came across the photocopy of my mum's suicide note. It turns up every once in a blue mooon - can't remember the last time I read it. But what I do know is that this time when I read it, I just thought "this is weak". For such a long time after she died I was so understanding of her, trying to figure out her motives. Now I just think "how could you do that to your children, if you loved us so much?"

Sorry, random musings ahoy.

VintageGardenia · 20/08/2008 18:38

cyteen what a thing to find. Poor you. I didn't realise that that had happened to you, what a combination, to lose your mother in that way and your brother prematurely. I suppose the way to think is that she must have been in a very bad way if she could do it despite loving her children so much. Or is that a naive thing to say?

Re. the breastfeeding I didn't mean to imply by any previous post that it wasn't good - I do enjoy it, and it's "working", but just that it's tiring and a worry I suppose. A lovely post from you miamla and a great video clip!

Littlun very hard to settle this evening, perhaps because of a busy day being out to lunch & to hospital & then visitors. Does anyone think extra handling can irritate a baby? They did say at the hospital try to limit it, but the poor poppet gets passed around like a parcel. I wish I was stronger about standing up for him. Why do my "good" manners override my "good" mothering instincts?

Oh I want everything to be perfect.

TS you sound mighty perky, hope you get DD2's discharge and get home to DD1 where you can start getting cosy as a bigger family. x

VintageGardenia · 20/08/2008 18:39

Here's a weird secret.

I wouldn't mind having another baby.

ssshhhhhh...

cyteen · 20/08/2008 18:48

x 100 VG! Are you confessing that you're back on the sex train now then?

Thanks for your kind words, it was all a long time ago now - mum killed herself when I was 14, so that's 18 years ago. I've had a long time to get used to it, not that you ever stop dealing with grief, but you do make space for it and accommodate it in your life. Most of the time I am terribly understanding about her choice and I agree that she was not at all in her right mind the night she died - as I understand it she had been struggling with depression for several years and it just got on top of her. But since losing Si my feelings have expanded to incorporate a deal more anger; I guess it was seeing someone die who genuinely didn't have a choice in the matter. And that I loved him so much I just feel pissed off about it all, tbh.

Anyway, I'm used enough to being mumless that I am fairly detached and used to experiencing shifts in my attitude and my grieving over it, so it's not such a big deal really

I would imagine lots of handling can affect such a tiny new person as your DS2...lots of mum+dad time will be reassuring for him now, I expect Oh, I can't wait to cuddle my own baby! [soppy]

AnnVan · 20/08/2008 18:54

Apparently excessive handling can make babies fretful. I can understand it too. Imagine being that helpless and being passed around like a package! Unable to talk and say just put me down and let me sleep, or I want my mum. Am not looking forward to that part TBH. I just know DP's older sister is going to be a nightmare. She likes to act like a second mum to all the children in the family. I don't think I'll be happy if she tries it with this one. SHe's welcome to be an aunt, but a baby only needs one mum. OR does that sound unreasonable? I'm just worried she'll be constantly undermining me, and interfering.

oopsacoconut · 20/08/2008 19:17

Hi All

Saw stupid midwife today - and forgave her many sins but not all!. I explained I have been up alot of the night with grumbly pains every 10 mins and chronic backache - she checked bubs and she (bubs) has decided that back to back is a great place to be. She said seen as I was grumbling and cramping she could if I requested it check my and if favourable give me a sweep. But she never suggested it. So decided to 'ask' and she checked and said cervix posterior and couldn't realy reach it but what she could feel was soft and about 2 cm her hands not big enough to reach and sweep. It HURT LIKE HELL initially but was okay and have been cramping off and on all day.

Having some problems with my moron replacement at work - she is becoming a stalker! Now too scared to answer my phone when work number comes up, which make me feel bad incase it's kids wanting to talk. Took kids to see Kung FU Panda today - just what I needed to relax - I am the PANDA!

Hugs to all those who need them and postive BF vibes to those struggling - remember that you both need to learn how to do it babies are born as clueless as you about it.

LABOUR VIBES to those who want babies out.

PetitFilou1 · 20/08/2008 19:18

cyteen at your mum committing suicide. I am sorry you lost her in that way. I guess becoming a mother yourself does bring things to the fore. It certainly changes the way you think of your own mum - differently for each of us I should think.

As for labour - who knows. My friend's mum said she would 'pop them out like peas from a pod' as she did - and she had two c sections. I am like my mum though who also had fast births. It is a mystery....

vg yes too much handling is supposed to make babies fretful - poor dd was handed round in much the same way (I clung on to ds as he was my first one and I wasn't so busy!)

annvan you are not being unreasonable - start as you mean to go on and be firm!

sazzles You are doing really well to have the patience to express that often. I would be surprised if Emma hasn't put on weight again. They do stress you out about it though don't they?

PetitFilou1 · 20/08/2008 19:20

oops Moron stalker replacement should not be contacting you at this stage I think you should ask her not to call or tell your boss that is just not acceptable. Their problem not yours!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 20/08/2008 19:43

Hi everyone a bit slow here, only few twinges. Sister is sat here with me, but feeling guilty as she has cancelled her first night out in a very very long time.

She is trying to talk me into going on treadmill, and keeps asking if I want a membrane sweep

How you doing Knockoffnorbert

Sazzles I don't have much time at mo but have to say YOU ARE DOING AMAZINGLY WELL.

I am stunned by your good humour and resolve. You are doing your absolute best for Emma and if you do move to mixed feeding tomorrow you will have nothing to reproach yourself for.

PetitFilou1 · 20/08/2008 20:39

sazzles What VG said

ChaCha · 20/08/2008 21:23

Congratulations TS
Hope you are all doing well and big sister is enjoying new arrival.

Have been posting on the b/f threads and worried about baby's weight but we have finally turned a corner today and it seems that afternoon stay at b/f clinic last Thursday paid off as his weight has gone from Monday's 'static' and 'we'll weigh him again on Wednesday to see what the next step will be' to 'hurray, he's put on 2 oz's since then' Has been a roller coaster of emotions and lots of tears from me what with x number of HVs and MWs turning up making me feel sorry for myself and ready to pack it all in!! Looked at the scales today and was ready to jump in excitement - have been setting alarm through the night as he is quite happy to sleep on at times so hopefully this has been improving production too and latch is definitely better. Here's hoping it continues...what a week!!

ahhhhhh want to ask qu's but someone wants feeding...........

sazz agree completely with VG you do what is best for happy baby and happy mother

VG if you don't want him handed round just don't - wee soul - tis why I've been holed up in my house for so long and when I do go out she's in her sling so if people want to see her they have to stare down my cleavage

cyteen I don't know what to say but am here if you need to talk

had awful night with dylan last night - do they have growth spurts at 3weeks? have health visitor tomorrow to weigh her again and I suppose had better get her registered seeing as tomorrow is last day to do it

we're thinking of changing her name a wee bit instead of Cordelia Dylan Mae we were going to use Cordelia Dylan Ismay - I know its not a huge change but needs considered!!

right ladies to those in waiting room wishing you well and to those with bubs - wishing you a good night
