Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CaptainCaveman · 13/08/2008 10:41

Good morning ladies, and ooooh to sibh - look forwards to your arrival announcement soon .

I am feeling more dapper today without doubt. Despite the fact that Oliver has decided to feed constantly since 8am (must be having a growth spurt). I've finally escaped to the shower and got dressed whilst dh has taken charge downstairs.

sazz I love the name for your little girl - I think it denotes maturity, beauty and genuineness . All Emmas are Fab . Oh and not to make you cry but I found out work have actually bought me a gift!!! . Haven't got it yet......perhaps I could share it with you?

Can anyone recommend a good read or guide to adjusting to life with 2 children? I feel immensely guilty for how my relationship has changed with ds1 and I want to spend more time with him. Maybe it's a kind of mourning for the times we did have when there was just one of them? I'm sure its completely normal but of course it's all new to me.

How is everyone else doing today?

albs would your gp visit you at home? Or can you talk to your hv or mw?

CaptainCaveman · 13/08/2008 10:42

expectant I don't know if I offered my congrats so congratulations on the safe arrival of sam

ataraxis · 13/08/2008 10:51

Congratulations sazzles, glad things are going well with Emma.

Good luck to sibh and sarah, fingers crossed for you!

TS - any news? you know how to keep people in suspense don't you

AnnVan, hope you are managing to get a bit of sleep...

dizzy - hope things are ok with you and your family. Must be a time of very mixed emotions.

Hi to everyone else , hope you are well and happy.

ataraxis · 13/08/2008 10:51

miamla · 13/08/2008 11:16

TS ooh, you've got a lake at the end of your garden?? I haven't been skinny dipping since..... TMI!

dizzy i'm so pleased your dad wasn't kept in and that they haven't given up after one day of testing. it sounds like the team looking after him are determined to find the cause. lots of hugs

When DS falls asleep during a latch, he releases and rolls back in a very contented drunk way! very sweet

last night we did a mammoth 8.30 to 11 feed, had half hour off (DP trying to convince him he really wasn't hungry still) and then 11.30 to 12.30. Its a wonder he only weighs 8lb5!! although after that session, he only woke up at 3.30 and 6.30. i'm feeling rather refreshed (sorry to those that are having trouble sleeping but it has been a while since i've had 2 consecutive hours!)

VintageGardenia · 13/08/2008 11:22

I am so behind! Waah.

WELCOME to Lewis, Emmeline, Samuel, Marianne, Emily, Edward, Delilah, and Emma. My goodness where did you all spring from while I blinked stumble around in post-natal haze?? Feels weird to have missed everyone's action when everyone was so supportive of my turn.

sibh and sarah hope everything is progressing nicely and the doves are on the way.

TS what's your sitch?

dizzy how is everyone but especially you?

sazz love that you're on from hos! Hope you're feeling good and both sides are operational xxx. You sound in great form, Emma must be a poppet!

CC glad you feel more up today, how are you feeling albs?

To balance out the difficulties I've had (killing boobs ouc ouch ouch, killing nether bits, lack of sleep, unpredictable moods, tears, headaches, etc) I thought I would take a moment to rejoice over the good things that happened post birth (apart from the glorious baby of course):

  • swollen feet went down! Miracle. Have ankle bones. Quite sharp ones! Have worn assortment of shoes. Is bliss!
  • tummy shrank a bit! Not enough though, as friend's daughter told me I still looked pregnant but some. And few pounds off the scales.
  • able to paint toenails in fake Rouge Noir.
  • can lie on tummy. Bliss!!!!
  • DP seems in love, not totally gone off me as had feared
  • DS likes younger brother, not disgusted at presence, as had feared (I like to have everything well worried out in advance, you see)

Now that's my Pollyanna bit for today.

Will be on to moan later, naturally .

FoghornLeghorn · 13/08/2008 11:33

Now news of any new babies yet ???

DH is running late, thought he'd be back for my mw apt but he wont so now looks like I've got a sweep with 2 DD's in tow to look forward to

gigglegirl · 13/08/2008 11:36

congrats sazzles if Imogen hadn't been called Imogen she would have probably been Emma so love the name. Glad all going well with you.

Went to docs yesterday and got another course of antibiotics I do like me GP though she is very honest and down to earth and was the first person not to say "oh haven't they done a nice job, your scar will be tiny!" When in fact I have three lumps sticking out of my scar and she actually told me that it won't be the neatest scar but that it will be better than it is. I'm not planning on being a glamour model so I don't suppose it matters!!

MIL coming round later on today as DH has gone back to work! Eeek, not sure whether ger arriving will make it easier or harder!

Imogen still feeding all night and sleeping all day - joy! She seems quite puky today but think that could be because she seems to be getting a cold, poor baby.

Hope everyone else well.

gigglegirl · 13/08/2008 11:38

foghornleghorn I feel your pain - had my last smear with three DC present - delightful. i reccommend tubes of sweets and stickers and the threat that if they move whilst you're behind the curtain they will be confiscated! Oh and I kept one strapped in puchchair!

FoghornLeghorn · 13/08/2008 11:47

Well with DD2 having the pox I don't really want to be taking her into the GP's surgery especially when there is an ante natal clinic on ...... Have roped my 14 yr old nephew into waiting in the car with them while I whizz in

stillhere · 13/08/2008 11:49

VG just a quick one to say how much I appreciated your list of positive postnatal occurences. I'm not there yet but remembering how shitty painful hormonal challenging it was post-birth last time I really applaud your ability to get a happy list together! Will try to do the same when my time comes...

Sibh sending positive . Had my first cup of raspberry leaf tea last night as am now getting used to the idea that the baby might be immiment (!) despite building work still going on. Think it might be getting comfy in there though... Can tell by the way I can hardly walk with double groin ache - obviously doing starjumps in there or something equally random.

sarahnh · 13/08/2008 12:07

hey,

very quick post just to let you all know that Tess Alexandra was born at 10.07pm on 12/08/08 weighing in at 6lbs 10oz.. labour 2hours and 10 minutes....

haven't had a chance to catch up but thanks so much for all your support in the last 9 months ladies couldn't have done it without you!!!

cyteen · 13/08/2008 12:12

YAY! I'm extra specially pleased for you sarah, after all your on again/off again drama. Now all we need is for Reese to arrive

oopsacoconut · 13/08/2008 12:18

CONGRATULATIONS Sarah yay sounds like things went well - Welcome Tess

YEAH! SARAH

OP posts:
poppysocks · 13/08/2008 12:31

Congratulations Sarah! Glad she's finally here and what a gorgeous name. Both were seriously in the running here.

And good luck Sibh!

FoghornLeghorn · 13/08/2008 12:36

WOW Sarah I am so pleased for you (sharing the same due date and all). Welcome to the world Tess

Fingers crossed my sweep works as well as yours did

dizzydixies · 13/08/2008 12:40

lovely news sarahnh lovely name - well done

lovely day here and dh been called into court [fume]

Dylan sleeping so sitting here in HUGE pants and bra letting cream sink in and praying nobody comes to door

VG lovely to see you - am doing ok I think although will freely admit to having my moments - all associated with grief though so as long as I realise that I think I'll do ok

dad back in at 1.30 today for further tests, treatmill etc - have told him to take it easy as not wanting an olympic record off him - will let you know how he gets on - thank you all again for your lovely good wishes

in-laws arrive tomorrow - AARRGGHHHHHHHHH God bless travel lodge is all I can say

will pop back in later

cyteen · 13/08/2008 13:50

Yes, I forgot to add earlier sarahnh that it is a beautiful, beautiful name Aww, babies.

When will I get to meet mine, that's what I want to know! Getting very jealous of all the postnatal crew now. DP asked me last night if I feel ready to have a baby (answer: yes and no, depending on when you catch me ), and one thing I could say with confidence is that physically it doesn't feel at all like my body is gearing up to do anything - I just feel like we're in stasis, with baby alternately wriggling like mad or stock-still for long periods. No twinges, no contractions, nothing that feels different or out of the ordinary...I wonder if this means I'm going to go well over?

Anyway, have been on a marathon vacuum and freezer meal cook-up mission this morning, so am now kicking back watching some Olympics and doing NOTHING

PetitFilou1 · 13/08/2008 14:29

Congratulations to Sarah and I love the name too

cyteen I am feeling exactly the same - which is maybe a good thing considering we have practically the same due date - ds2 is very slow today but then I've been distracted

CC There is a book about having a second child called one sock, no shoes and a toothbrush or something like that - but I wouldn't recommend it. It is pretty depressing stuff! Take it from me that the guilt goes away and they both will get enough attention. I always remember the quote 'love is like elastic - there is always enough to go round' no idea where it came from though! imo it is really important to spend a little bit of time each day with your older one on their own while the baby sleeps - made a world of difference to ds's behaviour in my case. And remember when there is someone else around to help, to put your older one first when they need something. Even though your instinct is towards the baby the older child realises when he/she is not getting the attention whereas the baby doesn't mind being cuddled by someone else (unless of course it needs feeding!)

cyteen · 13/08/2008 14:35

Isn't that funny pf, El Squid has been mega-quiet today as well, worryingly so at times although he has made the odd reassuring effort Maybe it's the distraction for me too. I did just eat a very sweet muesli bar that sent him mental

FoghornLeghorn · 13/08/2008 14:38

Back from mw - couldn't do sweep - cervix really posterior but she could get to it and said it was very very soft just back behind the baby's head. Baby is very engaged aparently, head didn't budge when she was examining me which she said is excellent as it would usually bob away.

So much for going and being told I was 5cm

ataraxis · 13/08/2008 14:44

pf/cyteen - i was thinking about this the other day, and I do think that having all the news about other people giving birth makes (me) much more impatient to meet LO. That, and the fact that I SOOOO want this baby to be born in August rather than September. I am with you on the slow babe today. Just went out for a very long bumpy walk with the DCs so that will either induce movement or sleep

CC - difficult on the move from 1-2. Think it is just about as much involvement of DC1 as possible, lots of hugs, cuddles & stuff. It does all work itself out as pf says - amazing the amount of love that you can feel when it comes to children, it just seems to grow .

Congratulations Sarah - gorgeous name, nice quick labour - brilliant news!

ataraxis · 13/08/2008 14:45

fhlh - how does someone mistake 5cm from not?!
