Foghorn, nope it's not a good idea to bring baby home to a live chicken pox infection. You'll need to seek advisement from a pediatrician. Consider the days.....DD2 should be all better by or hopefully before 27AUG. Just remember CP is as much an airborne virus as a touch virus.

Ann, I went through a really bad non-sleep spell several weeks ago. I thought I was going to DIE!! Not that it has anything to do with it but I was also dealing with slight constipation too. I added a bit of fiber to my diet, uped my water intake and last week my body started allowing me to sleep again for longer lengths of time. Biggest sleep was last night: 10pm until 6am! WOW!!

Twilight What the hell am I supposed to do if baby puts in an appearance before 27th which lets face it, is highly likely .... I can't send DD2 away and I can't stay away from home

Weird to see my name creeping up the list Congrats to those who've had babies, those of you who uploaded pics here, they are gorgeous! Can't quite believe I'm going to be having one too, hehe.

AnnVan, I really sympathize with the sleeping thing, it can drive you round the bend. I've been able to sleep but usually in 2-3 hour chunks and no more. I know you must be growling jealously at that, but it's taken some getting used to and leaves me feeling a bit blah. You are going to find the first weeks blissful, because the amount of sleep you'll be getting will feel luxurious compared to everyone else, and you can smile to yourself when they complain of 'broken sleep' because hey, it's still sleep, right?
Personally on the same topic, I'm really thankful deep down that my bladder is training me to wake up more or less when the baby will - unless I have one of those every hour sprogs I was a right sleepaholic before, and it's nice to have some warning.

Getting some twinges just now but it might be the fact that I'm wearing jeans for the first time in ages, so I'm not getting excited.
TS you have been amazing coping with what must constantly feel like imminent labour and no fricking progression! I'd have gone spare by now.

fhlh I think your lo will be ok - as I said likely to have immunity from you and via bf if you bf. Of course you can't send dd2 away or stay away from home (hands fhlh cup of tea and soothes fevered brow)

AnnVan- I am so sorry to hear about the sleep. I had similar problems last time round, although not every single night. I was probably 5 nights a week or so for 6-8 weeks and I know just how utterly miserable it is. Interestingly, mine sorted itself out in the last few weeks. SO hoping to hear that that happens to you too.

FHLH - can't believe the timing with the CP. Can only echo what others say about the immunity that comes from you. Terrible timing though, poor you.

Foghorn, this is just the basics. Your child's pediatrician should be your primary source for information....

"I HAVE A NEWBORN AND MY OLDER CHILD WAS JUST EXPOSED TO CHICKENPOX, OR JUST BROKE OUT WITH CHICKENPOX. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
If your older child was exposed, then try and keep the baby away from him during the 7 to 21 day period after exposure. This may be tough, but it's important. Breastfeeding will help provide your baby with some immunity. If your older one breaks out in chickenpox, then just quarantine him until no longer contagious as above. If your newborn infant was exposed before you knew the situation, there is really no way to prevent the illness, yet most likely your newborn carries your immunity to chickenpox." Copied from HERE

Well our early night went very very wrong. Henry actually continue to feed on and off til 1am. dh took him downstairs at one point to try and let me get some sleep but i failed. I started losing the plot at various point. So tired. Up and down all night. And the nipple that had split and healed has opened up again.
don't flame me but we're going to try dummies - he seems extraordianrily sucky! We'll see if they work, and if not, do send me to hell where i probably belong;(

ALBS You need to do what is right for you and your sanity - if you find a dummy works use it! I am a firm believer in giving it a go with sucky babies it's just for comfot and gives you nips a rest!

albs Don't be daft, of course it is ok to try a dummy. Re your cracked nipple have you tried nipple shields when feeding to allow it to heal properly?? Can you give him a bottle of expressed bf to get a break (says pf who has never managed this - but hey worth suggesting!)

I've been lurking around a bit for the last few days but keeping up with you all virtually. So sorry to hear about CP Foghorn - what shitty timing. My DS hasn't had CP yet and I know some kids have just had it at nursery so I'm keeping all fingers crossed he can hang on another few months, as he's already escaped it for nearly three years...

LWFH having had a proper mucous plug as my show last time round, I was really expecting that this time but have had quite a lot of pinky/reddy mucous and dried blood coming down on and off for the last couple of weeks. I've had it all checked out a couple of times and all the recent advice I've been given said that so long as the blood wasn't dripping fresh (and a pad's worth) and was still mixed with mucous, then it was just a result of the changing shape of my cervix. As I've miscarried before it still makes me a bit twitchy when I see it but I think I'm getting used to it now... just!

Sibh your post just cracked me up. I love the idea of Brucie's Generation Game processing out of your fanjo and I'm guessing a cuddly toy beats the ol' placenta hands down, eh?! I think my LO thinks baby's going to arrive as part of a procession of old fashioned cars like we saw at the vintage car rally... (when I first told him I was pregnant and asked him what he thought I had in my tummy he paused and said 'Mini Cooper?' rather hopefully...)

AnnVan so sorry to hear about the sleep thing. I had a lot of this with pregnancy #1 but I agree with the other posts - just nap whenever you can, even if it's only for 20 minutes. I think it's nature's way of getting you ready for major sleep deprivation, which seems a bit cruel as you're going to be knackered enough soon. My DS didn't sleep at all well for about the 1st year and we were permanently knackered, bickering and having to choose between sleep/eat/wash most of the time, which was a bit antisocial!

All well here - house still a building site but the longer baby hangs on (officially due in 8 days) the more I think we might have a kitchen and heating by the time it arrives. Fingers crossed...

Wishing sleep to all who need it, pre- and post-natal, and downward thoughts to those limbering up in the contraction fast lane.

ALBS {{{{HUGS}}}} I assume a dummy is the same as a pacifer...right? If so, GO FOR IT!! I've actually got two stashed in my hospital bag. I'm all about comfort items. DD1 would only use hers if you held it in place. She preferred her three fingers (pinky, ring & middle) to anything AND still does. It's so hard to tell what babies want but sounds like you're doing a great job trying to figure it out. Wishing you some >.

Way to go Sazzles-and hello to Emma. That's really lovely news.

Albs-I gave DS a dummy at 6 weeks after getting dog-tired of his suckaholic tendencies and it did really ease things. DD just didn't have that obsessiveness about the whole thing and managed without. Anecdotally, it seems that boys are much more likely to be sucky and if the dodo (as they're called here) works then absolutely go for it.

Do what works for you ... that is the only school of advice that gets handed out on this thread as far as I can see and that's what makes it such a lovely place to be

Contractions seem to be hotting up again here. Am hoping nothing definite happens until after Gray's Anatomy, the one ray of sunshine in RTE's summer schedule. How shallow is that ...
