AnnVan · 12/08/2008 09:20

Hi all, sorry about the grump! Had a huge attack of the weepies.
Spoke to mw who just said that insomnia is a fact of pregnancy, and just to catch some sleep whenever I can. Have been trying not to sleep in the day, but when bedtime comes, So does heartburn, restless legs, headaches, feeling sick or feeling ravenously hungry. Not all at once obviously.

Think I am going to try reflexology and see if it works. WIll try anything now. Sorry, massive me post.

AnnVan · 12/08/2008 09:22

Oh - foghorn I know it's not unexpected, seeing as your other daughter just had it, but I bet you were still hoping it would be ok!
Don't know re CP and newborns.

sweetkitty · 12/08/2008 09:23

hey foggie been keeping an eye on you to see if you had had the baby yet.

Poor DD2 and poor you, I can't remember off the top of my head when CP stops becoming contagious but theres someone on the July thread whose newborn got it (Rumpel) I do think you have to be careful with newborns. Maybe going a week or so overdue wouldn't be a bad thing IYSWIM? Let the spots crust over etc I know going overdue is the utter pits though phone and ask MW or GP asap.

VintageGardenia · 12/08/2008 09:27

Hi just to say hello quickly. Hoping to catch up later on the new arrivals and those still pacing the carpet.

All doing ok here more later.

one hand typing.

pain re pox! You must have dreaded that.

BabiesEverywhere great name we most heartily approve!

Back at some stage today. xxx to all.

Sibh · 12/08/2008 09:29

What terrible luck FHLH.

Annvan, you could also try a prenatal hypnotherapy dvd. I got mine from ebay and it's by someone called Maggie Howell (Effective Birth Preparation I think it's called and it's on Amazon). I find that if I do this before I sleep, I find it easier to drop off. I still ended up having a hot bath at 1 this morning to cure the restless legs though ...

oopsacoconut · 12/08/2008 09:34

FHLH Wrapping you up in huge {{{{HUGS}}}} Ring up the postnatal ward and ask they can always check with a doc and get back to you. I wouldn't bother with speaking to you community midwife unless she has recently worked on the wards - things change and she may be out of touch with hospital policy. Newborns can get CP but should have some immunity from you - you may find they are okay about you going home with bubs but will have tokeep and eye out for symptoms and if bubs gets it, it is usually quite mild but will need to take bubs to doc's if he/she gets it, just to be safe.

PetitFilou1 · 12/08/2008 09:40

annvan Sorry but I don't think that your mw is being very helpful. Insomnia in pregnancy (ie waking up in the night not being able to get back to sleep) may be common but not not sleeping ALL night. I think she doesn't quite understand the extent of the problem. I doubt very much that you can take sleeping pills so maybe the reflexology is the answer. In fact if you can find somewhere that does massage for pregnant women (like a Clarins spa) that may also help.

fhlh I think you should have passed your immunity onto the baby if you've had chicken pox yourself previously. Bf will also protect it. But I don't know and think you should call the GP for advice (wouldn't bother with the mw in this case) Sorry about the timing - pretty crap.

FoghornLeghorn · 12/08/2008 09:40

Thanks guys
I know we defo wont have to stay in the hospital, the midwife on triage told me this when I called her last week. She said I will need to ask the paedeatricians advice when we are in the hospital.
I know MIL and others will suggest DD2 being kept away from the baby until she is no longer contagious and I know it's selfish but I don't want any of my babies going anywhere .... we should all be together

mum2go · 12/08/2008 10:02

Wow, so many babies already! Congratulations everyone, hope you all are keeping well

hang in there ladies still due

AnnVan · 12/08/2008 10:15

PF - I did ask if there was anything I could take to help and she said no. Tried pregnant massage, and was sick at the end of it, so I think Reflexology is the next thing to try. Might also look see if I can find this hypnotherapy DVD that Sibh recommended

cyteen · 12/08/2008 10:15

pf I'm with you - my DP is the king of instruction manuals in our house, he positively loves getting a new gadget home and reading about how it works, whereas I am spectacularly crap and never bother, then moan about how I don't understand how to use anything

Also I agree, AnnVan, it's not good enough for your mw to say that insomnia is a fact of pregnancy when it is affecting you so severely. Please do get a second opinion, whether from GP, reflexologist or whoever, because it is a worry when you're this close to going into labour IMO - you need all your strength and stamina right now.

Commiserations to FHLH, here's hoping the hospital can enlighten you with regard to their cp policy...(((hugs)))

All quiet in the cyteen household this morning. DP's cold has turned quite nasty with a bit of a fever, so we're having a rainy Tuesday and curling up on the sofa together. Baby feels like he's intent on going nowhere - nary a twinge, nary a wriggle.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 12/08/2008 10:20

Well its throwing it down here, and has been most of the night.
Dont think its stopped for 1 minute.

DD stayed at sisters last night, (missing her like mad) and dh still in bed.

Sister said she is fine just chill out, no need to go out in this weather.

However I am bored and want to do something, but at the same time dont have the energy.
Want to go buy something for dd from baby,as everyone says its the right thing to do. Sister suggests a baby doll and buggy.

What do people think, has anyone else done this?

sarahnh · 12/08/2008 10:47

hey,

FHLH my heart goes out to you sending you big massive hugs...

well i am not doing so good now .. just been to midwife, had sweep now 2cm and 50% effaced which is positive.. but have to go to the hospital this afternoon for monitoring.. i have always had growth issues with this lo and now the growth has really tailed off so she wants me to go and get checked out...

its so frustrating because although i am tall i have a slender frame and i'm all baby.. having said that i have put on the two stone you are suspose to so i just don't know whats going on... there is a posibility that they may induce me which is great as far i am concerned as i want this baby out... i just don't need the extra worry of if she is ok...

sorry for the me post.. anyone else have this issue???xxxx

longwayfromhome · 12/08/2008 10:55

Hello all, a little bit of old blood this morning - kind of freaked me out as I have had no discharge or bleeding at all during the whole pregnancy.

In the ante-natal classes the midwives told us not to worry about a little bit of bleeding close to term, and anyway I have had two internal examinations in the last week (last Wednesday and Saturday) which may have provoked some of this. Got up and drank some orange juice and ate some pineapple cake and the baby is now doing a bit of kicking and so trying not to be too worried.

DH still asleep - he was working until late last night, although he did come home and work from home, which was nice for me.

Am feeling like a worrying first time mum - the trip to hospital on Saturday night was because I had been having odd pains most of the evening, coupled with the stronger than usual Braxton Hicks every 5 minutes - but although we were sent home again actually I am quite relieved that we went as the midwife told us not to worry, everything was fine and nothing was happening and so when this has happened since Saturday at least I haven't been worrying about this as well ...

Did you know, that every morning when you hand round RLT I assume that it is real life tea - but today you offered capsules and so I guess that it must be raspberry leaf tea.

Much sympathy to all about the pox, the insomnia and other pregnancy woes - sending lots of thoughts - and lovely as well to hear from all the new mums.

I'm off to watch some olympics and worry on the sofa. The problem with time zones means that it is mostly during the night here. Argentina played GBR in womens hockey yesterday evening and were 2-0 up when I turned the TV off. I suspect that Argentina may have won but will not be mentioning it again in front of DH and hope that he forgets.

sarahnh sorry to hear about the growth worries, no experience here, but I hope that everything goes well at the hospital this afternoon.

sazzles still waiting but still managing to get on MN lol, cheer up you will have your lo soon

sarah hugs, hope things improve for you

no1 have bought dd a very lovely ballet dress with corsage type roses attached from ds2 and ds is getting a playmobil bin lorry that he wants! Think a baby doll and buggy is a very good idea. I've also thought about getting dd a doll she can bath and one of those horrible plastic bath sets (as she'd love it) but think someone might get her one for her birthday.

annvan hope you have some luck with the reflexologist

am currently working my way through mammoth ironing pile but it doesn't seem to be reducing aaaargh

dizzydixies · 12/08/2008 11:28

SAZZLES!?!?!?!? get off!!!! am only on to post that there's no news for you yet

annvan get yourself to bed lady - napping is a god given right when pregnant and when baby comes you'll be glad you did as you'll be napping then too

foggy sorry about the CP can't give any advice other than get yourself some Nelsons Tea Tree antiseptic cream - tis best thing in world for pox - hoping they're all better soon

sarahnh fingers crossed - will check back later to see how you got on

VG lovely to 'see' you hope you and your beautiful boys are doing ok

news from dixie household this morning? Had a long long night with Dylan so a bit pooped and have not long received a text from dad saying GP has sent him straight to hosp for some tests re his heart

am therefore off to find a padded dark room, fill it with sand and bury my head in it [meep]

oopsacoconut · 12/08/2008 11:29

Sazzles hope they come for you soon.

PF what is this ironing you speak of???

Sibh · 12/08/2008 11:32

Petitfilou--the bin truck is truly fab. DS got it for his second birthday and we still get loads of fun out of it over three years later. We're into the castle, knights and pirates now.

no1 the pushchair can be awkward if DD hasn't had one before as they tend to get backed into corners, and struggle with floor bars between rooms for the first week or two (or dd did when she got one for Christmas). Something she can manage single-handed would be a great idea. When DD was born, DS got a toy pterodactyl ... It took me weeks to find one.

Hope you don't have to wait too much longer Sazzles.

oopsacoconut · 12/08/2008 11:32

Dizzy x post. sending hugs and some ostrich sand - suitable for burying heads in whilst allowing sleep at the same time.

PetitFilou1 · 12/08/2008 11:33

Oh dizzy it never rains but it pours.... glad the GP took some action. Some are a bit slow off the mark. Let me know the results if you need anything interpreting (if he tells you them that is) - did your brother get anywhere with the meds yet?

dizzydixies · 12/08/2008 11:44

pf brother hasn't been over to the house for a rekkie as yet and when I told him this morning he'd been taken into hosp his reply was to just wait

to explain dad has been taken into hosp by a a neighbour and told me in a text her was going in and to phone her for details - well she's obviously not answering as she's driving him in and dad's mobile is turned off [aarrgghhhhh]

breath in breath out breath in breath out - fuck it, just remember to breath

oops thank you for sand, who knew there were different types suitable for head burying

dizzydixies · 12/08/2008 11:47

oh oh, one good thing was that I phoned the diabetic clinic and had my glucose test moved back a couple of weeks - am not in the mood to be fasting then loading myself up with sugar and trying to breast feed again all when she is only 4wks old - they've graciously put it back 2 weeks

PetitFilou1 · 12/08/2008 12:01

dizzy Yes, breathe. She will answer when they've got there. The GP may just have been being cautious. Your dad is in the right place at least. Hugs and let us know how you get on.

dizzydixies · 12/08/2008 12:02

am now calm - have eater 12 jaffa cakes so am off to the shower
