Hello all! Well - mw visit was abit rushed - normal mw is on holiday and they apparently have two homebirths on at the mo, so a random mw came over from another clinic and was seeing all the ladies so didn't have much time.

MIL came over to wait in case couch arrive while I was out. As it happened it came 5 minutes after I got back, and MIL had done a little tidy up for which I am very grateful.

We now have lovely new and COMFY couch! Yay!
CC - sadly we will be having visitors stay over after bumpy arrives - my parents. gah. on coeliac and one diabetic to cater for on top of everything else Actually I do want to see them, and seeing as they live in Scotland, they really do have to stay over.
All are welcome to come try the couch, having said that though, I might just lay down on it for a little nap
Wow sorry for the massive post!

LadyOfWaffle · 08/08/2008 11:06

BabiesEverywhere good luck with it How is everyone getting these babies moving, mine is stuck and I am due today

of the new couch AnnVan, I love it when new things arrive! Our sofas are abit delapidated (sp?) after just 2 years already.

Is it safe to have visitors in the first week or so (germ wise etc)? It'll go two ways I think with me, either it'll be just mum and i'll moan no one cares, or there will be every Tom, Dick and Harry here and I'll moan they are nosey buggers and should wait a few weeks!

AnnVan · 08/08/2008 11:10

LoW - we've had to buy loads of furniture, having moved from a fully furnished flat in London to a house in kent that had a bed and a two seater couch in it. SO we've had to stock up on everything else! Not fun when you have to do baby spending as well.
Still I agree with you, I also love it when new things arrive.

AnnVan · 08/08/2008 11:12

Ok can't resist the temptataion to nap any longer. Will see you ladies later!

LadyOfWaffle · 08/08/2008 11:12

We're abit like that ATM, loads of old furniture had to go when the house was being done but as it's not finished I can't get new stuff so it's quite bare in here!

PetitFilou1 · 08/08/2008 11:13

LoW Of course it is safe! And you are right, you will moan either way

albs cyteen has reminded me to ask how you are too - you sounded very down, are you ok? PLEASE go to the GP if you still feel really sad. I didn't when had PND and it really affected bonding with ds (fine now but took a long time to resolve)

FoghornLeghorn · 08/08/2008 11:15

I'm so happy

Just spoke to the post natal ward at my hospital - midwife had no idea where my midwife had got her info from. Unless there is something wrong with the delivery baby and I will be allowed home as we usually would, DD1 should be fine to visit as they go by a 21 day incubation period and once the spots are crusted and going they are no longer infectious. Only downside is that DD2 probably wont be able to visit as she will either be spotty or at the infectious stage before the spots come out and that's obviously a risk to the other mums and babies.

Overall, I'm very happy with that outcome, will be horrible DD2 not be able to visit but wont be as hard as if it was DD1

PetitFilou1 · 08/08/2008 11:18

Hooray for fhlh

LadyOfWaffle · 08/08/2008 11:28

Oh, before I forget (not that I will need this info , I can see me being induced again) when do you need to ring/go in with baby no. 2?

alittlebitshy · 08/08/2008 11:56

atm a bit brighter - we had more slepe last night. we were in bed after henry's 8pm feed and got 3 hours, then a feed, then 3 hours, thena feed followed by almost 2 hours then after another feed (strictly morning but my mum is on dd duty) another bit of sleep. Still got raging ear ache (and using drops and paracetamol to combat it but not working yet) and sore nipples. Hopefully dh is taking ds and I to bf clinic even though my lady is away - another lady is doing ti I think.

TwilightSurfer · 08/08/2008 11:58

still nothing but discomfort

will probably phone doc in a few hours to see if i can come in later today instead of monday so i don't go completely INSANE!

now back to the sofa

Sazzles I'd be happy with ANY DATE at this point. REALLY! Today could be Friday the 13th and I wouldn't care just as long as the birth was immenent. Just cleaned and sweep the kitchen in the hopes it would make things get moving. Doc's office opens in 30mintues........

CaptainCaveman · 08/08/2008 14:03

Phew, mum gone. She left about 5 mins before my friends visit ended . So peaceful atm.....I feel bad for not wanting her here but I feel annoyed when she is here. Get a grip girl.

Ladies in waiting - how are you doing, or is that a stupid question? My friend who came round is 37 weeks pg and fed up - yep, remember the feeling well.

Just found out my SIL is training to be a bf counsellor so had a good chat to her last night about ds2's weight. She adamantly agrees - do not let them brow beat you into giving formula unless you want to.

AnnVan · 08/08/2008 17:13

Oops - nap didn't quite turn out as planned. More sort of passed out for a few hours. Ah well, at least I feel vaguely human again!

So how d'you like my new sofa, Sazzles?

LoW - I know what you mean about the place looking bare. Ours is getting better, but theres still few things left to get. At least I'm not living in with my parents a the mo - my sister is due early sept and is currently living with parents as her and BIL having trouble selling their house.

AnnVan · 08/08/2008 17:16

CC - grr at mw - my MIL was having a rant about HVs and their obsession with weight as a measure of health the other day. Her 2yo DD is a very dainty little thing - but HV is always moaning about how she doesn't weigh enough. MIL says they care more about the weight than if the child is having a healthy balanced diet. If the child weighs ok it doesn't matter if they're living off chicken nuggets.

oopsacoconut · 08/08/2008 17:28

Hi Annvan was just about to post about the wind whistling through the thread. Lovely new sofa [admiring glances] Good to hear you had some sleep, I managed a nap only half an hour or it will be no sleep tonight.

CC - pleased you are home in peace with your boys. HV's obsession with weight is one reason we stopped seening them for regular weigh ins at work. Kept being told that the little girl was not putting on weight fast enough also not growing at the required rate! ended up at paeds and paed nutritionist etc etc and just wasted NHS time and money - she is now 7 and the tallest in her class but also the skinniest eating everything you put infront of her from veggie soup to lasagne and chips.

FHLH Yippeee on the pox front

Sazzles how much tea will you pay me not to take out a full page advert in a local paper telling the world your c/s date [evil grin]

TS How was the docs? is this silence a sign of things happening or are you just hiding from MIL?

ALBS pleased you are feeling better.

LadyOfWaffle · 08/08/2008 17:31

AnnVan - I had DS whilst still at my mums as our house sale took forever to finalise, so a bare house is tons better than having to be at my mums!

5.30pm... anyone got a plunger?

AnnVan · 08/08/2008 17:40

Oops - I dont think it mattteres for me if I sleep half and hour or 5 hours, I'll not sleep tonight anyway. THats how I'm thinking about it to avoid getting annoyed thatI slept so long.

Sister and BIL are apparently now goingto give up on selling their house, because the price keeps getting reduced [ouch] and are goingto let it out instead. They will then have to get a second mortgage to buy a house to live in but in the meantime are going to rent.

TwilightSurfer · 08/08/2008 17:42

the doctor.....
I haven't called. The weather's so nice. I've been cleaning up and rocking on the front porch...just hated to spoil it because I'm having fitful nights. Twisted, I know. Just really want things to happen on their own even though I've had ENOUGH. On the plus side I've been have period type pains throughout the day, the pressure hasn't vanished, and the contractions are still coming and going. I just feel bad for my left ankle and foot which is quite swollen now (right one is back to normal). The stress of this pregnancy is so much easier to manage in the daylight.

OP posts:
AnnVan · 08/08/2008 17:44

Oh and foghorn- good news about the CP!

VintageGardenia · 08/08/2008 17:59

Hi folks we are AT HOME and I am in love!

This little boy (Edward - didn't realise hadn't included name!) is just fantastic. Feeding is going ok (if you count comedy boobs, razor-blade pains in nipples, as ok - but from his point of view is going well) and I am still so excited from getting him out of scbu and out of hospital that I am running on adrenaline and don't care about sleep etc. (Talk to me again in a few days ).

DS and DP both tickled pink, my lovely mother is staying to help and share doing commentary on the Olympics, we've got off to a great start. Having said that after elder DS I got the blues pretty badly and I'm aware there's plenty of time for all that to kick in...

I'm not quite ready to do the birth story yet (haven't really started remembering it, etc, too focused on getting the babba back) but I had a genius midwife and I have absolutely no complaints about how it was handled. DP was a total revelation, he was just brilliant and I have never been told I was loved so much so many times in the space of 12 hours. Oh dear this will make me weepy better stop.

Babies, poppy, TS, thinking of you, wishing you well. Those waiting... enjoy your last little time of pregnancy, I know you think that's bonkers.

dizzy, ChaCha, CC, giggle, Buckets, MrsM, Ilana, Miamla, preg1, hope you are all doing well with your baby beauties.

ALBS glad you seem brighter and I hope the bf people can give you some good support. I have The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, the la Leche League book, it's quite good (though the title makes DP retch) but really it's a real person you need, I think. If I hadn't known I could do it successfully because of elder DS, I would have given up by now and I'm only a few days in.

Thanks again for all the positive vibes, it was so nice to get them in hos. It was definitely them that got my little boy into my arms where he belonged.

Oh - and had someone else selfishly booked in the doves and harps for Monday by any chance? Or was I too delirious with pain to notice them ... [...?

PetitFilou1 · 08/08/2008 18:01

CC Have you considered looking at your lo's weight against bf growth charts as opposed to the ones they use in the red books which are based on data which I gather is from formula fed babies? Might be interesting.... Must admit I only got dd weighed about twice! Try looking on kellymom.com/babyconcerns/growth/ - some very useful stuff on there - and generally on bf if anyone else is interested.

annvan what is going on with your sleep patterns?! Hopefully it is just hormonal with you and will settle down...
