Anyone else a bit worried that Emma has not reported back on yesterday's scan yet? Hope you are ok Emma and that you've just not managed to get online since.

lollipopz · 12/08/2008 14:10

I thought I had avoided the sickness but its hit me today i feel HORRIBLE! Looking after the other kids and feeling like this is soo draining. Got a scan tomorrow morning so hopefully seeing the wee reason why we put ourselves through this will help to give me a shake and get on with it!
Its my wedding anniversary today and dh is taking me out for dinner and i am dreading it! Can't look at food today!

CaptainKarvol · 12/08/2008 14:38

hi all,
I can't keep up with this thread! Hope Emma is OK too, and just struggling to keep up with mumsnet. Sympathies with all those feeling dreadful, and still very of all those of you with scan confirmation of your beans. I was supposed to go to a wedding on Friday, but didn't get there as too tired and sick. Looking after a toddler (who is still up every single night at least once) and feeling like this is not easy. I want to sleep.

SpookyMadMummy · 12/08/2008 15:11

Hello everyone!

I have just got back from my booking appointment with the midwife and OMG how things change!!!

We now get a 12 week dating scan here, when I had the other 2 there was the 20 week scan and thats all.

I see the Midwife next at 15 weeks, then have 20 week scan then its another 8 weeks before seeing the Midwife again!!

I'm sure it used to be monthly to 28 weeks then 32, 34, 36, 38, 39, 40 weeks.

Apparently that is within guidelines.

I was hoping for a homebirth but I have GBS so it will probably be a hospital birth again Midwife said you have to be very strong of character to go against protocols and tbh with everything that happens in my life a battle over a birth is one thing I can do without so hospital it will be.

Postnatally things have changed too. They do not do a daily visit here, one at 2 days, 5 days for Guthrie test and one at 10 days. I seem to remember being seen on a daily basis before.

My life is so busy now I think less M/w appointments will suit me!

babyinbelly · 12/08/2008 15:42

SPOOKYMADMUMMY I was shocked at how little i see the m/w too. I know first baby they see you more often but I hardly see anyone the whole way through. Feel a bit abandoned tbh. Quite glad tho cos I'm happier not seeing them as they all think they know it all and can be quite stressful sometimes

Sunnydale · 12/08/2008 15:48

Hello all - like you, Rubyring, I have been craving Marmite and crisps - especially Wotsits. Also pizza, chips and any sort of lardy, fatty, unhealthy stuff. Have been trying to "compromise" with pasta and rice instead. Tried to eat some broccoli at lunchtime but nearly barfed. Congrats to all who have had scans. With so many on this thread, it is v hard to keep track of everything! I guess we can all expect very busy maternity wards when March comes!

I've been inspired to go and look up the NICE guidelines on how often we should see a midwife.

So far it looks like 10 times if it's your first baby, and 7 times if its second or more.

Booking ideally by 10 weeks, then 16 weeks, 18-20 weeks (scan), 25 weeks (if it's your first baby), 28 weeks, 31 weeks (first timers only, again), 34 weeks, 36 weeks, 38 weeks, 40 weeks (first timers only) and 41 weeks.

The 12 week scan is only mentioned in passing 'for women who choose to have screening'.

MKG · 12/08/2008 18:26

I'm amazed at how seldom you guys see the midwives. Here it is typical to have your first pre-natal appointment around 8 weeks (we don't bother with gp's, they just get in the way) The nat 12 (nuchal, and checkup) 16, 20 (scan, and checkup) 24, 28, 32, 36 (position scan, sometimes), 37, 38, 39, 40.

Am 10 weeks today. I can't believe I made it to the double digits already.

Slickbird · 12/08/2008 19:36

Spookymadmummy - Where do you live?
And MKG - Where do you live? It's amazing how it varies from region to region. We only get a 12 week scan here and then don't get the 20wk one, which is disappointing. I can see the importance in both of them. I have been told that we (Lothian and West Lothian) will get two as of next year, but not while I'm pregnant . When I had my first DD we were living in Wales as my DH is from there. We only got one scan and it was at 20wks. But I tell you it was a DAMN long time to wait and find out everything was ok. I felt very ignored and just left to get on with it. This is my 3rd, so I'm not sure how often I'll be seen...

Slickbird · 12/08/2008 19:38

Wait a minute! Some of you get a 7 week scan too?? Is that instead of the 12wk one?

SpookyMadMummy · 12/08/2008 19:57

I am in South Yorks and MKG is in the USA.

MKG · 12/08/2008 19:58

Slickbird, I'm in the US.

I did get a 7 and 9 week scan with ds2 because I used a different practitioner that had ultrasounds before their first appointment, but the midwives I saw with ds1 and with this baby don't do that as a general rule.

Mummyof3and1angel · 12/08/2008 19:59

Hiya Everyone

xx

calsworld · 12/08/2008 20:03

Hi all, feel like I've got nothing to say so have just been lurking quietly, enjoying a nausea free pregnancy (not gloating I promise!) so far, and even if I am only a few weeks in, I'm still doing miles better than I was this time last pg! This is DC2 and probably my last so am trying to enjoy it and not wish it away!

I've got my booking in appt on Monday and it seems like an age away, I'm not really looking forward to it - I didn't have a good time with MW's last time round...didn't see the same one twice and they weren't very supportive (planned home water birth). I hope I don't have to see them very often this time round if its the same team !

Anyhoo, best scoot and make the most of the fact that DH is cooking dinner for me tonight! Oh for a glass of red wine to wash it down with!

emma2617 · 13/08/2008 09:37

Morning ladies!! Thanks for thinking of me HC and CaptainKavrol both me and bambino are fine! Scan was yesterday but as I have been ill all weekend and off work ill monday and tuesday I havent really been up to going on internet!!

Scan went great, saw little bambino trying to do back flips...all 35mm of him! We didnt get to hear the heartbeat though, sonographer just pointed it out on te screen, would really like to hear it though!

Due date has changed though (to exactly what I though it was!!) I plumped for 1st March as doctor said I was due 23/02/09 but I knew he was 1 week to week and a half out(hence I knew I should be on this thread and not the feb one!), so my new date is 7th march, exactly 1 week 4 days later than doc reckoned. It just goes to show that we really do know our bodies much better than the doctors!

Hope everyone else is doing well this morning!

Mummyof3 you have just pipped me to the post at being the youngest!! I have just turned 22 on 1st august!!

babyinbelly · 13/08/2008 11:04

I was 22 on 25 june so not far off you Emma and same edd (although I haven't had scan yet). Already have 1ds though.

emma2617 · 13/08/2008 11:18

babyinbelly I am glad there are a few more people my age around! I was beinning to think I was the only metalist around here who wanted a baby at 21! I only got my scan slightly early as the doc got my dates wrong! According to him i would have been 12 weeks at time of scan! Instead I now have 10 whole weeks to wait until next scan!!

I feel so much better having access to MN again...it is the only good thing about being back in work!

corgikelly · 13/08/2008 11:18

After freaking out for the past week (and being talked down from the Google edge by a number of you!), I just wanted to fill you in on the results of my 8-week ultrasound this morning ? to make a short story shorter, everything looks normal!

We had a different technician, and that made SUCH a difference ? he was very friendly and clear, and luckily for my partner, preferred speaking English to French (which meant it was like being scanned by Tintin with a Cambridge accent?).

So we walked in and he said, ?All right, you?re here for a follow-up ultrasound so we can check on a hemorrhage.? WHAT? No one said anything about a hemorrhage! I told him as much, saying that the only thing we?d been told was that the fetus was smaller than normal, and the yolk sac was enlarged, and that I?d spent the past week googling myself into a frenzy. He apologized for that and said, ?Let?s see what we can do to put your mind at ease.?

Heartbeat ? strong and fast.
Gestational sac ? properly sized for 8 weeks
Yolk sac ? ?Perfectly normal ? it?s not enlarged.?
Some evidence of a past bleed (at this point, I said, ?Can I put my googling to use and enquire if the hemorrhage you?re talking about is the same thing as a sub-chorionic bleed?? He looked impressed and horrified at the same time; turns out it is, which I guess translates into a small detachment of the gestational sac from the wall of the uterus?). But no new bleeds and no enlargement of the previous one.
Fetal length ? this is where we learned the limits of early u/s. He said, ?Unfortunately, yours is waaaaay up at the far end of the uterus, so it?s going to look fuzzy and it?ll be hard to get precise measurements? ? and indeed, he measured three times and got anything from 12 mm (7 weeks 3 days) to 15.1 mm (8 weeks even).

Soooo ? at the end he said everything looked perfectly fine and that he was only going to give me the pictures if I promised to do no Googling for a week, which made me laugh.

Feel like a huge hurdle has been passed, and hopefully I can relax a bit until my 10-week appt with the ob-gyn.

Many, many thanks for all your positive thoughts ? I am convinced they did a world of good. Onward and upward (or outward, I suppose...I wonder when I'll start showing?)

laweaselmys · 13/08/2008 11:33

mummyof3and1angel I think it's you and me in competition to be youngest, I'm 21 too! And won't be 22 until late april after DC is born. This is my first one though.

I haven't booked my scan yet, and I'm really hoping on monday when I can it won't be too long a wait til I can have one.

Boobz · 13/08/2008 11:44

Have just spent £104 on Amazon on baby books. Oops.

emma2617 · 13/08/2008 11:57

Boobz I have just spent £75 on a fetal doppler as I feel deprived after not hearing babies heart beat an the scan!! Not sure how to tell DP though...ooops!

laweasel another young 'un...I feel much better now!! The fight is on for the youngest!!!

lizziemun · 13/08/2008 12:17

Most midwife don't listen to the heart beat until 16weeks as it can be hard to find before that.

emma2617 · 13/08/2008 12:24

Oh poo! Have I just wasted £75?! Well...at least it will keep me occupied searching around in there!!
