Brand new thread ladies!

Oh Meep - so sorry to hear it. I'm sure everyone will say the same thing - that the odds are in your favour, and they are quite right. It's miserable getting that kind of score but it's probably all ok. I look forward to you getting back on these boards next week with the all clear.

dinny · 12/09/2008 17:57

oh, Meep - this seems, byt this thread, so be such a common occurence

was the nuchal OK? is it the combined bloods/nuchal risk?

do the 16-week bloods test for Downs etc routinely?

Wheelybug · 12/09/2008 19:31

Just a quickie (sorry not in much but spending much time at hospital with my dh who is still in since sunday...).

Meep - so sorry too you've had this result.

I was thinking today about it (as you do) and I don't know if you've turned the statistic on its head and thought of it as a percentage. So even 1 in 3 means there is still a 66.7% chance of it being ok which sounds much better doesn't it ? a 1 in 75 means a 87% chance of things being ok. Something to cling to I hope during the wait over the weekend.

Hope everyone else is ok - no news here really.

Ladies...I know miscarriage seems to be quite common, but how many of you have had to tell people who have lost recently that you are pregnant?
My parents have just told my godparenta' who's son and partner have lost 3 babies in 12 months, and they were less than enthusiatic. This has made me feel likke crap, guilty for being pregnant, I have been crying all evening

lizziemun · 13/09/2008 08:05

Emma try not to take it to heart. I know when we were trying for dd1 (TTC 18mths) and dd2 (TTC 3yrs) everyone was falling pg around me and yes i was pleased for them, but also that it wasn't me iyswim. And to be honest i hid away from people because i didn't want to be around them.

meep · 13/09/2008 08:14

thanks ladies - my lovely dh worked out that we have a 98.6% chance of everything being okay. keep all your fingers and toes crossed. i'll let you know hoewe get on next week. Keep your. beans safe & well till then

laweaselmys · 13/09/2008 10:03

I agree, two of my friends got pregnant at the same time I miscarried at the time it was a shock and I was upset but once it sunk in it was fine, and I just like to give their babies extra hugs. I'm sure your godparents will feel the same once the news has settled in.

Good look to meep and mandy, I hope the next tests can give you some reassurance...

MKG · 13/09/2008 10:34

Meep-I hope everything is ok (which it probably is)

My sil miscarried about a month before I found out I was pregnant as she just happened to call right after I did the test. I actually told her before I told dh. She was thrilled for us. She calls me once a week to ask how I'm feeling. I asked her if it made her sad to see everyone around her getting pregnant and having babies and she said no because if it was meant to be for her it would happen and that her miscarriage was nature's way.

No new news here, which I guess is a good thing.

EllieorOllie · 13/09/2008 22:07

My SIL miscarried about a month before I found out I was pregnant with DD1. She found it hard for a long time but eventually bonded with our little girl. Now she is expecting her first baby and is due in 4 weeks. Sometimes these things have a way of working themselves out in the long run...

I have just returned to the land of the living after 48 hours of the dreaded norovirus. At one point me and DD were vomiting simultaneously. Almost makes you wish for the return of morning sickness... My midwife assures me that norovirus nasties can't cross the placenta, and the only risk is me becoming dehydrated, which i'm not, but i can't help worrying about little bean. it must have been like a rollercoaster in there.

Meep and mandy - good luck. I hope everything turns out well for you both. Whilst i'm not in anything like the same position as you I expected my combined screening to come out with a 1 in over 1000 result like last time and I was slightly taken aback when I got a 1 in 300. Apparently the cut off for testing is 1 in 250, but i still find it a little nervewracking. You are both in my thoughts.

HopingCat · 13/09/2008 22:17

Just wondered, has anyone else decided not to have the blood test for Downs? I've already declined it, and with DD I was given an appointment but didn't go. In this area it is our choice whether to have the test or not, and among my friends and colleagues I don't know anyone who's chosen to have it. Does everyone else have to do it in other areas of the country, or is it based on if you're 'high risk' or not? I don't think I understand it all very well. Sorry to be a bit clueless.

twocutedarlings · 13/09/2008 22:59

Hi Hopingcat, Im not having my bloods for downs done either, you are not obligated to have any tests done btw.

Hopingcat

I'm not having bloods done for Downs. The midwife won't do bloods as i will not have any other tests.

My results would be high risk anyway as i am nearly 39.

CaptainKarvol · 14/09/2008 10:00

Hi all, just back from a not-at-all-relaxing holiday in the Lakes with my DH and cheery toddler DS, who rejected all entertainment in favour of jumping in puddles as often as possible.

HC, I've pretty much decided not to get the Downs bloods done, and they don't offer nuchal in our area. The blood tests are offered to every one here, but there's no obligation to accept. I still waver every so often, but think I won't go ahead with them.

Best thoughts to meep and mandy.

SpookyMadMummy · 14/09/2008 17:06

Hi all

Just checking in - hope everyone is ok.

Have a craving for Marmite and fruit!!

dinny · 14/09/2008 17:22

SMM - you MUST get the new Marmite flatbreads, they are LUSH

SpookyMadMummy · 14/09/2008 17:23

Ooh dinny not seen those....

laweaselmys · 14/09/2008 17:47

nooo, it's all about vegemite.

Actually, I've been really craving honey and a certain type of NZ sweet that I can't buy anywhere except in a particular shop in london.

I haven't decided whether or not to do the downs test or not, although I will do the others. My DP wants me too because he reckons it's always better to know, even if it won't change your decisions. I guess I will do them for him, but I don't really want to.

dinny · 14/09/2008 20:50

smm, they are fudges

TantiK · 14/09/2008 21:00

SMM - agree to the marmite craving...but live in Italy and my supplies are low. The marmite flatbreads sound good - will have to stock up when I am over in Oct.

Had my scan on Friday - all okay. Except it was an internal scan (standard here) and the Obstetrician was very anti-social and hardly said a word to my dh and I. Not even - there's the baby or congrats! That was my first experience of an Italian hospital and I'm not impressed with their bedside manner at the moment! It did make me realise how clinical it is going to be here - compared to the midwife approach that we often have in uk. So am feeling a little more apprehensive about having a baby here - but not much I can do about it. Hopefully it will get better as I have more contact with the health services. I also had to have my first appointment (I guess equivalent to the booking appt) with a Gynae. Again - another internal and was prodded about again. I've got that to look forward to each month now. great.

Meeps/Mandy - wish you all the best for your further tests tomorrow. Will be thinking about you.

xxx

auntyspan · 14/09/2008 21:51

Evening all - just checking in.

meep / mandy will be thinking of you both this week - got everything crossed & please do check in with us and let us know you get on?

TMI ALERT is anyone having issues with... erm... 'loose' bowels? absolutely not constipated and really struggling. My appetite has diminished and I've completely gone off meat so diet has changed - do you think this is something to do with it?
