This time round I am -lazily- not doing any ante-natal exercise. Our local pool is closed, so aqua-natal is out. I do walk every day though and occasionally bike.

I really need to cut down on my carb intake though. I have become 'Carb Queen' lately. Getting through at least one tea cake a day, plus a mini baguette for lunch. Am going to go for some more healthy options in light of the exercise absence chez moi.

Uwila · 14/02/2005 12:33

Ooooooo... a whole mini baguette for lunch??? Goddness me I think I'll keep quiet about long list of daily consumption. Oh, and a whole teacake...

Jeez, no wonder you are skinny.

teabelly · 14/02/2005 12:35

Haven't started any exercise yet...but didn't do any with ds either ...but I have just bought a pilates dvd on ebay and should get that in a week or so, so plan to do the pg and post natal exercises. Generally running around to and from work and now after a toddler kept the weight mostly stable (with the odd top up of weightwatcher days!) - but my tummy (far from flat originally) never recovered from being pg with ds...sooo hoping this dvd will kick start a change this time - that is always assuming I get past actually remembering to put the thing on in the first place!!

Failing that I could always take up your example Welshie and start rounders ...although me and co-ordination were never bosom buddies so not sure if I could actually hit the ball...at school I was always sent to play deep deep deep field, ha ha ha!!

LipstickMum · 14/02/2005 12:42

lmao is that not much then? Obviously I didn't mention the crisps and biscuits that accompany them and anything else I can lay my hands on

LipstickMum · 14/02/2005 12:47

Tea, I did a Pilates course after I had dd. It was only 6 weeks and I didn't keep it up because I had to pay extra on top of £600 gym membership, which I strongly objected to in the long term. Anyway!! It is great!! There is a lot of pelvic floor work and using the core muscles, including the transverse abdominals, these are the ones that tend not to get worked during normal ab crunches but are possibly the most important for a flat tummy and strength. It is flipping hard work though, and some of the exercises are quite complicated, the movements are so subtle. You need a good dvd/teacher imo.

teabelly · 14/02/2005 13:01

Lippy I've heard lots of good things about pilates so have my fingers crossed it'll work for me...dvd is by Lindsey Jackson?? so hoping she's a good instructor, otherwise may resort to classes...just easier if I can do it at home as getting enough time to myself to go out nowadays isn't all that easy! £600 membership plus extra for classes - that's extortion isn't it?!

I've gone mad on the eating front too - I'm hungry all the time, and if someone mentions chocolate I'm like a demon posessed until I have some...speaking of which...

welshmum · 14/02/2005 13:01

Where are we going to get the time to do anything for ourselves when we've got two????
On another matter, I'm reading a fab book at the moment 'What mothers do - especially when it looks like nothing' It's a really gentle, kind commentary on motherhood - without any of the do this, do that, my way is best type stuff. It's great - anyone else read it?

charleypops · 14/02/2005 13:02

Jonah (((hugs))) to you and dh x

Uwila!! I'll have you know I was up before 10.30 this morning (well nearly), but it is Valentine's Day and dp is a home, and bed is so lovely, especially when you've got the first series of 24 to watch on the laptop...

Good luck all you with scans today! Tessie, Curly, I'm missing someone else I think....?

And good luck with your hair colouring Tessie, it's going to be a shock for you I bet after being blonde for so long. I'm blondish and dyed my hair dark brown a couple of years ago, couldn't handle it and had to get it highlighted blonde again.

Hi Franni and Boredmama and welcome to the June thread! have you posted your stats on our stats thread yet? You're going to find lots of help and answers to your question here at MN!

Hi KVG - yes, I feel properly better today thanks and actually put my (well, dp's) money where my mouth is and ordered some Sevens from Ebay USA, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they fit!! Yes, I've looked at the Quinny Buzz but crossed it off my list for some reason....I think I may have preferred the Xplory to that one??

Lippy I so know what you mean about Sunday evenings. I used to get real Sunday night blues when I knew I had work in the morning, but can really enjoy them now . Did your bloke who enjoyed shopping with you turn out to be gay then? I've been out with 3 of those!! Guess I must just ruin them for women . Don't worry - I'm working on the joint credit card.. might take a while, he's only recently seen his accountant.....

Not bought a travel system yet (or anything else ), I'm going to wait until May I think just in case Jane bring out a fab new colourway or something. How about you Lippy - what are you doing for your double buggy thingy?

Trib - please feel free to rant about anything on here - i certainly need to now and again!! makes me feel less isolated too (and others I'm sure) when other people share problems like that

Berolina - Hi! It's still not sunk in with me that I'm actually (all being well) going to have a BABY!!. thank goodness you're taking things easier. Yes, your baby is by far number one priority.

welshmum · 14/02/2005 13:05

Glad you're feeling better Charley - that sounded really horrible. How long will take to get your jeans?

tribpot · 14/02/2005 13:14

Welshie - I borrowed the book from the library at my step-dad's recommendation (well, he had read a good review of it in the Guardian). Couldn't get on with it at all, I think because I am currently enjoying my last months of child-freedom so 'what mothers do' is a complete mystery to me anyway - and our situation will be quite different given it will be dh who is at home with the baby. So the whole emphasis on 'mothers' rather than 'parents' didn't really make sense to me. I'm waiting for a friend with an 18-month-old to read it and tell me what she thinks!

Poor dh, btw. I made him get up this morning (normally he sleeps til lunchtime) and he's been doing jobs all morning, currently he is to be found steam-cleaning the hob. No-one say I don't know how to show a man a good time on Valentine's day

LipstickMum · 14/02/2005 13:16

I know Tea, our gym is a con, I left in protest. Gave up choccie for Lent, but doesn't mean I am not scoffing Mr Kipling's mini battenburgs instead

Charley, the guy who liked shopping with me didn't turn out to be gay, he's married now - or at least he hasn't come out yet!! He just liked watching me shop lol in a kind of sad, puppy dog way!!!

I have done absolutely nothing re buggies. Too much on my plate at home with the loft conversion and dust. Today the celing came down to accomodate the new stairs Can't even begin to face the dust in the hallway, all doors are covered with sheets. Going to mum's tonight to escape!!

charleypops · 14/02/2005 13:24

Hi Again - i noticed my last post was getting a bit long so I've split it (serves me right for not posting yesterday!)

Welshie "... 2 of my bfs are GP's....." ? Are bfs BOYFRIENDS?? thank god you've told me about the rounders cut off - I have an excuse to bow out gracefully now! Son't know how long my jeans'll take - Dp's taking me on a suprise break (first time for everything! ) on the 17th March for 5 days (passports are involved!) so I hope I get them by then.

You don't actually play rounders do you??? My god! I can hardly get up off the sofa!!

He he Katz re your FIL! I find people like that tend to "know" all about DIY, can't you make use of him like that while he's with you?

"Carb Queen" I hardly think so Lippy - try hot chocolate pud at least once a day, about 3 baked potatoes, 4 to 6 rounds of toast, sandwich, spaghetti (my thing at the moment), pickled onion monster munch, rice...... I could go on! And I 've cut down since the first 3 months!

Tea - I was always last to get picked for rounders (and netball etc in fact everything apart from hockey, which I loved 'cos I would whack horrid girls' ankles and get away with it!) You and Lippy are making me think I should really get going with some kind of class....

Lippy - I don't blame you for escaping to your mum's! It's such a nasty job isn't it? oh the cleaning...... Can't believe the price of that gym by the way

teabelly · 14/02/2005 13:27

Trib...I don't think my dh even knows we have a steam cleaner!!

Welshie, oh I'm sure I won't have that much free time, esp with 2, but ds will be at nursery in the mornings and I'm hoping number 2 will sleep as much as during the day as ds did, then instead of doing the cleaning or ironing or washing or gardening...(like I did with ds) I shall take some time for exercise and tell dh he'd better like it or get used to big jelly belly sex...ok that went well saying it on here, now all I have to do is tell dh!!

Ooh yeah Curly hope your scan went well too

teabelly · 14/02/2005 13:32

Charley don't worry too much about the exercise...I'll get the dvd, put it on to watch through one time...then get it out again when doing a spring clean, or actually more likely when ds has a sort out of his dvd's coz the cupboard's full and then flog it on ebay like the girlie I bought it from...never actually having used it!

tribpot · 14/02/2005 13:37

tea - he's even talking about doing some hoovering this afternoon But I shall have to say no to that I think, or he'll be fit for nothing for the next three days and at some point this week we are actually venturing into town for a meal.

welshmum · 14/02/2005 13:43

Charley - I thought bf was best friend?? Like I'd have time for one Dh and 2 boyfriends
I did actually play rounders last night - but I hurt so much today I won't be doing it again until this baby is out and about. I think the bump had a bit of a shock this weekend. We were out at a party until late (for us) on Saturday night - and then the poor thing had to put up with mum jigging around with a bat and ball. Poor lamb.
Teabelly - you definitely win the prize for being most interested in sex on this thread! I'm very impressed.
I know what you mean about the unused videos though - I cleared out 3 last night from the 80s I think - the hair was.
We are clearing out so much crap at the moment with trying to 'rationalise our house' before this one arrives.

welshmum · 14/02/2005 13:45

In case of confusion I'm referring to excersize videos not porn films....

teabelly · 14/02/2005 13:50

Welshie, are you sure!

Trib he knows about the vacuum too!!!!

berolina · 14/02/2005 13:51

Glad you said that welshmum, did get me wondering for a moment...

off to be a good girl and have a lie down.

Uwila · 14/02/2005 13:52

So, Welshie, does mean that the porn flicks don't go unused? Just clearing any possible further confusion.

welshmum · 14/02/2005 13:53

Tribpot - I agree with you. I wouldn't have found it remotely useful before I had dd, probably maybe not until the 2nd time around. I think now it's really tapping into my feelngs that I'm going to do far of trusting my own judgement this time - not looking for the answers in books. It's doing quite alot for my confidence as a mum - that's why I'm enjoying it.
If I were you though I too would be putting my feet up and reading anything else but....

Uwila · 14/02/2005 13:53

Welshie's right, tea. You are the Due in June sesx godess. I suspect you'll be on a lot more of thes Due in x threads in the years to come.

welshmum · 14/02/2005 13:54

That's right Uwila - there's no way I'm clearing out the porn - especially the 80s stuff - they're my favourites.

MrsWednesday · 14/02/2005 13:57

I've borrowed a Pilates video from a friend - still haven't taken it out of the box. When I've got a bit of free time (i.e when DS is either napping or in bed) the last thing I can be bothered to do is exercise. I just sit on the settee with my laptop and a chocolate brownie. The only way I can force myself to do anything is if I actually leave the house (and pay for it).

Teabelly, that's my plan too - once this one is born, on the days that DS is at nursery I'll pop the baby in the carseat and go to the gym for a bit. That's the theory anyway.

Katzguk, my FIL is a bit like that (actually a lot like that) but thank goodness he never comes to stay for more than a day. I'd go mad otherwise.

Lippy, how much longer until it's done? You have my sympathy, the mess just drives a person mad (especially a obsessively tidy virgo type like me).

Welshmum, like the sound of the book. Who's it by?

Charleypops, glad you are feeling better. Very impressive carb intake there! Sounds like mine actually. I'm NEVER FULL!!!!!
