charleypops · 17/02/2005 15:48

he he Lippy, I'm sure dp would have some festering old wreck somewhere if he didn't get so badly seasick!! I'm sure yours is lovely. But I am jealous

Katz - decorating's good - have you seen the price of decorators???

LipstickMum · 17/02/2005 15:54

ACtually, we sold it last year when we realised we were never going to sail her again, she was in NZ

lummox · 17/02/2005 20:00

Oddly, not moving to a bigger house in London - we've bought a big place in France where we're planning to move six weeks (or so) after bubba arrives.

So, for the moment, we are moving to a smaller place - sticking to our laziness theme we're hoping to get somewhere in the same or the next street.

We've spent the last couple of days with my bro and sil and their 8 month old - they love abroad so don't see much of them.

The weird thing is that last night after spending the day with them, I had my first dream about our baby.

Have other people been dreaming about their babies-to-be? It feels quite strange.

LipstickMum · 17/02/2005 20:18

It's not odd that you're choosing France over London. You get bugger all for your money in London and a whole heap of gorgeousness for much less in France. Sounds like a great plan to me.

I haven't dreamt about the new baby, not sure I did about dd either.

Dp is watching a house buying abroad show, think I will be chatting to myself for a few minutes!!!

PinkArjuna · 18/02/2005 00:28

I start my antenatal classes at the end of march. After much hassel - I have had to change the days of my college course as it clashed with the class. I am not much looking forward to it to be honest; all the bumps and birth talk will get a bit much I think. Well I suppose you can't put off the inevitable the baby is coming.

I've put on a stone Charleypops. Though I think that is due to inertia not baby growth I think a vast proportion of it is water retention. To be honest I have noticed no increase in my appetite at all in the last few weeks and find I eat far less than at the beginning of the preganancy. I do get to a point after a few days though where I am really hungry and make and effort to go out and get something nice to eat. However nothing seems to sit too well it just won't fit in without discomfort. To be honest I think my boobs weigh half a stone each

I haven't heard anything about the Beckhams - last I heard they named their son Romeo. I have a personal protest against tabloids and various celebrity closer type magazines and find my life is blissful without hearing about the endless boring banal rubbish those two get up to. I don't watch reality TV or anything so I couldn't comment on the playhouse or should I say play mansion??. Though I must say you have invoked my interest .... I find at times my resolve wains in the hospital waiting room - I console myself I didn't actually buy into it though God I am so sanctimonious

Has anyone else found they have a reprisal of early pregnancy nausea? I get very sick feelings in the middle of the night. So much so that I was over the loo for a while the other evening. I don't feel that pregnancy bloom at all, or the increased energy. Just down right ill. Oh well I'll quit moaning now. I am off to bed.

Morning everyone,

Hey Pink, nice to see you. Which ante-natal classes are you going to? NCT ones? I enjoyed mine, although they didn't really cover anything about giving birth, breathing etc. However, it was good preparation and a great forum for discussion. Pregnant women love talking about pregnancy, as this huge thread demonstrates!! The other thing was that I didn't really keep in touch with any of them!! Still, wouldn't change a thing.

I haven't got a clue how much weight I've put on. Just look in the mirror occasionally and either panic or breathe a sigh of relief

KVG, very impressed about your lack of TV. Dp periodically goes on about getting rid of ours, but I always put him right!! I don't think we watch as much a some, but we could certainly switch it off more often than we do too. Still, I gave up giving myself grief and feeling guilty about watching TV, life's too short to spend it procrastinating

tribpot · 18/02/2005 09:16

Morning all!

Pink - I only read gossip mags in the doctors' waiting room, that doesn't count. I haven't been having nausea but heartburn for deffo, getting worse in the last few days I definitely haven't had this bloom thing that's meant to happen, I feel okay but not hyper-energetic or anything.

Lippy - dh used to live on a boat in California, he was v upset when he had to sell up.

Weirdly, I've been having thoughts about moving to France. Not sure why, I think I have this feeling that their education system is better than the UK's. Sweden is a definite no for school-age kids, a friend of dh's has just come back with his two dds and they're about a year behind their classmates now I'd like the bean (and future beans) to have a chance to grow up bilingual, French or Spanish would be ideal I think.

lummox · 18/02/2005 09:43

Glad everyone not reacting in horror to our France move. We've bought a done up place - an old farmhouse which has been renovated. It's still massively cheaper than here, and although we had fantasies of getting somewhere really cheap and doing it up, we heard too many horror stories about trying to deal with renovations. Also, we had to face up to the fact that neither of us are very good at diy type stuff, so we looked for somewhere that people who were good at it had done up already (if that makes sense).

Warning to anyone thinking of doing this - leave a lot of time to complete on the sale. We agreed a price last June and didn't complete until 23rd December.

The house is in the Pas-de-Calais (the closest bit to the UK) which is very like Kent would be if there were a tenth of the people. DH and I are both self employed and the dream is that we each go to London a day or two a week (after the baby is nine months or so) and work from home the rest of the time.

Schools are a big part of why we are moving - also although it may seem a bit early, we have been holidaying in that region for years, and you really notice that the older kids and teenagers are much easier and more integrated than back home. It may just be the difference between urban and rural, but it is v noticeable.

Of course, we may be totally bored and isolated and want to come back to London within the year, in which case we've got a v expensive holiday house, but it seems worth a go.

Whew, that was a v long post. Hope all is well with everyone.

LipstickMum · 18/02/2005 09:46

Ooh Trib, that sounds great. We've been to California a couple of times, just for a few days, not really in detail at all. Still, what I loved most about it was looking out at the Pacific, it's just such a massive expanse of ocean, it's awesome.

We were never live-aboards. Although dp did for the time he was cruising. I could do it as long as I had access to a hot shower every few days

I'm so glad we've lived abroad. It makes it so much easier to be realistic about where we think we could live etc. I love the idea of giving it all up and living somewhere new (again!), but in reality, I'm not very good at it

LipstickMum · 18/02/2005 09:49

Lummox, why would we be horrified about you moving to France?? The tv is awash with relocation abroad programmes, everyone seems to be doing it. It's not that horrifying, I bet most people on here are completely envious!!

You're right KVG, there's a lot of social climbing/oneupmanship that goes on in England which dp and I really notice, having lived overseas in a country where there was relatively little. It's the thing I hate most about living here, really gets me down a lot

lummox · 18/02/2005 10:03

Just that we've had some rather mixed reactions from family and friends, Lipstickmum.

KVG - we found the place by chance - there was a really nice place on the internet as a private sale. I rang the contact number, but the woman said that it had just been sold. She then said that friends of hers were about to put their place on the market and gave me the number. So we were able to get in quickly. But we had been looking for about six months (in a fairly lazy way).

We did find that French estate agents are v diff to back home - they just dont contact you, so if you are interested you have to keep bugging them. If your French is OK, the best way is prob a mixture of internet and going to the local notaires, as estate agents fees are pretty steep there.

Really must do some work now - have written more MN words than work words - v bad.

LipstickMum · 18/02/2005 10:05

Hmmmm yes, I guess it's still a sensitive subject to broach to nearest and dearest.

Morning!

Oh Lummox, you're going to have the life I want by the sounds of it! I'd love to buy a house in France with a few acres for a smallholding. I would do arty holidays for people with dogs, but I don't think dp would be able to work. He has to be in London quite a bit 4 friends of ours have already done it, (2 separate couples) and another couple (the girl's french anyway) will be doing it in 2 years or so. Do you speak French? Trib - I think it's important for my children to be bi-lingual too, so if I don't get round to learning before, I'll learn with them.

LOL - I dreamt about my baby's PRAM last night!!

Pink - My stone is definitely a combination of inertia and over eating too I am beginning to feel really uncomfortabe now however after eating dinner so may be forced to cut down a bit. I might also have to tell dp to stop giving in to my demands for cake and chocolate! sorry you're feeling sick. It's all those good hormones though!

KVG! OMG - you threw out your TV!! I am IMPRESSED!!! When we moved into this house we said we were going to do exactly that - didn't though. Did you go through a withdrawal phase? Did you miss the soaps? the news? Forensic Files? Do you get loads more stuff done?? I truly admire you!

LipstickMum · 18/02/2005 11:21

I am struggling to eat the portions I used to eat. When I sit down, everything is squashed, it's a real shock that I remember from last time. Standing up and lying down are much more comfortable.

Sounds like what we need to do is buy up some land in France and set up our own commune . If it could be near the sea, that would be great, and then my dh and Lippy's dh could have a boat as well.

LipstickMum · 18/02/2005 11:34

Yeah, grazing all day is a nightmare or dream come true, depending on which way you look at it!

I am famished right now, must go and stare into the fridge

LipstickMum · 18/02/2005 11:37

Lol Trib! My dp is so cute with his boats. Even though we sold her last year he still subscribes to 2 sailing mags and is constantly on the net looking at dinghy's for day sailing etc. I feel sad that he gave it up, but he did get to do an awful lot more than he'd hoped I think. He's desperate for dd to become the next Ellen McArthur, but slightly more attractive
