Yay, new thread and the April 08 Ante-natal thread has started. I feel like we're really making progress now.

On the downside, I HATE this weather! I haven't slept properly for days as our flat is boiling and we can't have our bedroom window open because there is some kind of industrial air-conditioning unit on the building behind us which makes it too noisy to sleep. Have been taking cold showers and sleeping on the sofa with the balcony door open. I don't want Summer to be over but just wish it was a bit less humid.

Sorry for the rant! Hope everyone else is well. Good luck for the scans this week.

LadyThompson · 28/07/2008 10:53

Oh, bless you. I ummed and aahed about starting one for ten minutes to avoid exactly this eventuality. Sorry you couldn't make it on Friday, Turniphead. I was delighted to meet

Verso
PoisonDwarf
EffiePerine
Rosmerta
Olipop
PinguRocks
PixSix

and sorry to miss ChutneyMary and Artichokes who couldn't come at the last minute (what happened Arti? I'm guessing pregnancy brain but hope it's nothing more serious!)

I sympathise with the sinusitis - mine have been playing me up ever since I found out I was pregnant and I have a stupid dry cough as well which has got worse over the weekend. And a big spot, groan. My glamour quotient is very low, even for a Monday. I have even got my specs on today which I hardly ever wear, as I hardly slept last night and my eyes are sore. For the rest of the blind bats on this thread (are there ANY of us without crashingly bad eyesight??) I'm -4.00. And apparently you can't wear contact lenses when you have a c-section. I am vain enough to consider going without my glasses. I think this makes me a terrible mother, already, though it is partly to prevent me having clear view of reflection of guts on the theatre ceiling (I have been warned about this).

Lady T, just don't look at the lights. If all is well the baby is out in about 5-10 mins and you have a DP and an anaesthetist to chat to, so just look at the screen in front of you. Take a CD (my DD2 was born to the strains of Brahms 4 and my spinal was put in to " I don't feel like dancing" by the scissor sisters!), sing along and get excited! I had a few complications in my section with DD2 which meant it took 35 mins to get her out, but it was fine. Honestly. Even if you do look at the lights, it's just blood (and a bit of yellow in my case - fat! Nice!)

Off to Drs now. Back later. GREAT TITLE by the way.

pixsix · 28/07/2008 11:05

Turniphead I have air-conditioning envy.

I had a great time on Friday too and would love to do another meet-up. Don't have any existing children to think about so happy to do whatever suits everyone else.

I like the sound of the cafe phase too!

LadyThompson · 28/07/2008 11:06

Yes, music...I've been mulling that over. DP and I have markedly differing tastes. Aircon in the bedroom, Turnip! Ain't that fancy

Pixsix - apparently it's going to be really hot today then the rest of the week is going to be coolish, very wet, thunderstorms etc...in the Big Smoke anyhow.

Have just had a new bed delivered from Argos and the delivery man thought I was almost due . He must have been a bit stupid though I was actually wearing normal size 14 clothes. Yes I have a bump but its not that bloody big!!!!

pixsix · 28/07/2008 12:21

Oooh I meant April 09 obviously

rosmerta · 28/07/2008 12:22

Hi all, had a busy weekend so first chance I've had to get on MN!

Thanks for starting the thread LadyT, love the title!

Had a lovely time on Friday, nice to meet a few people. Hope everyone made it home ok. I'm happy to do another meetup, would prefer an evening tbh. Though if we do have a lunchtime meet then I may leave ds with dh & come on my own!

Ds & I both struggling a bit with the heat, he keeps waking up wanting water. Dh thought to leave it in his cot but then ds just spilt it everywhere which meant I had to change ds & the sheets! Last time dh has done that though!

TheInvisibleHand · 28/07/2008 12:26

May I join you ladies? Am expecting DC2 on 31 December. Oh and Lady T - no glasses during a section either - delivered DD blind as a bat!

LadyThompson · 28/07/2008 12:38

Welcome InvisibleHand and KPM1...

I think I'd prefer another evening as well - I run a cricket team and we play every Sunday in season and I spend my weekends out of London anyway...

Daisydora - French waiter in posh restaurant on Thursday night said to me "Not long to go, non?" I replied (voice turned to ice) "Three and a half months left, actually..." DP made it worse by patting my hand kindly and saying "Don't worry darling, it's only because he's French. All the women are like racing snakes over there."

I could have an entire thread about DP's faux pas and fill it up in no time. But he does actually MEAN REALLY WELL.

Welcome to the new people!

Am I the only person who doesn't really look pregnant yet, just a bit fat??

I don't think there is anyway I would get given a seat on the tube, for example, without asking for it (don't live in London so not a problem!)

Also re the French way of things, I told my french teacher that I was pregnant, and she was rolling around with amazement at the things we are not allowed to eat over here! She said to just ignore it all. Except when I told her I am still cycling, that was apparently terrible! So that matches up with the French attitude.

My only experience of French healthcare though is when my husband ruptured his spleen, they were very good and patient and he still has his spleen intact - he reckons in the UK they would have just taken it out! Also he would be dead if they had been no good, so can't complain!

Afternoon ladies. Was lovely to meet those of you who made it on Friday. Have added myself to the birth list.

Summer Lightning - I too do not really look pregnant yet. The big problem I'm finding is that none of my normal clothes fit me but I don't fit into any maternity clothes yet either. Clothes shopping has never been such a chore!

Hi to the new people!

Kpm1, whereabouts are you? I'm in W London, there's a local thread here if you want to pop over & say hello!

zoejeanne · 28/07/2008 13:26

Morning all, and hi to the new people. I hope the Londoners who met up this weekend all had fun?

Having spent the last few weeks telling everyone I'm not a normal pregnant lady, because I'm not feeling the heat and am actually colder than normal, today I am sweating like a piggie and gu;ping gallons of water! That'll teach me to keep my mouth shut in future ...

Can't believe we've only got 100 or so days to go - that's a bit scary!!

I have a DH foot in mouth tale to add to LadyT's - after the first scan I complained to my DH that the midwife was really digging in the scanner and it actually hurt - to which he sensitively replied "they'll have to do that to get through the fat". Love him, sometimes ...

Z.x

Well I've got fewer than 100 shopping days...but that's because mine will probably be delivered in week beginning 24 Nov. Some of you may have many more!
