New thread, people, unless someone else has started one...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Veggiemummy · 29/07/2008 13:22

i thought they do that during the anomaly scan isn't that where they can have a look at the cord and you can see the blood flow somehow they make it 2 different colours depending on it's going to or away from the baby. I'm sure i had that last time in the anomaly scan i did have a 3rd scan to check the positioning of the placenta but i'm sure that wasn't when they did the cord bit. sorry thats probably as clear as mud and of no assistance.

LadyThompson · 29/07/2008 13:25

Thanks Veggie but I had my anomaly scan on Thursday and all those things were fine. One thing they worry about when someone's 12 week bloods come back with low PAPP-A is Downs Syndrome, but as I had the CVS due to the delayed nasal bone and so I know it's not that.

OP posts:
theyoungvisiter · 29/07/2008 13:38

LadyThompson I think I've had a blood flow test - although not for that reason - mine was for funny blood pressure.

If it's the same kind, all they did was a scan (like a normal one) but then monitored the arteries going to the placenta for a while (about 5-10 minutes I think) and got a kind of graph showign the peaks and troughs in flow. I think (can't quite remember) they may have done the same for the cord. Based on that they assessed that the blood flow was ok but I had to have it repeated to check it was still ok later on. As tests go it was fine - not painful or invasive.

Maybe there's more than one kind though.

Talking of bump size, I just had someone in the lift ask me if I was 7 or 8 months !!! . I am wearing a rather bump enhancing dress today, but c'mon people!

LadyThompson · 29/07/2008 13:41

Thanks TYV, that may be it because the obstetrician mentioned something about a scan.

TheInvisibleHand · 29/07/2008 14:43

Lady T - poor you with the chest infection. I've had one I can't shake off for a couple of weeks now, find myself waking up at 2am every night, hacking away. No antibiotics for me, just the asthma inhaler as I get horribly wheezy.

Verso - you definitely sound like you need to get home as soon as you possibly can!

re Dragons Den - the designer had me in tears as well - pregnancy has the strangest effects...

Flumpybumpy · 29/07/2008 15:03

Hi everyone, had anomoly scan on Friday and baby is great, the scan lady kept saying 'what a lovely baby' and gave us 12 pics to take home as she couldn't stop taking them

We also found out that baby is a girl

At least we won't have to call it Reijko (pronounced Ry-co) DH's dodgy attempt at a boys name. We are toying with:

Scarlett (my fav)
Hope
Brooke
Daisy

DD1 is very excited baby is a girl as she has been put off biys by her little brother and DS is sgtill too young to understand although he does keep pointing to my bump and saying 'kiss baby sister' then kissing my tummy. Seriously my hormones are bad enough, I bawl everytime he does it

FB x

LadyThompson · 29/07/2008 15:13

Congratulations Flumpy, that's a few girls now. Daisy gets my vote, fwiw...

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 29/07/2008 16:03

definately Daisy i love that name.

glad i'm not the only one who cries because of business and investment deals.

am currently on the couch with DS took him to hs friends so he could have a play while i did some housework got all the way over there and he didnt want to stay which is very unsual cos it's his best friend and he knows the parents and house very well. I think he is coming down with something he came home and just wanted to drink milk which usually means he is brewing something. So i'm sitting around rather than cleaning so not all bad.

DS has started having 2 way conversations with veggiebaby except he carries out both sides of the conversations. He askes veggiebaby little questions and then answers for him/her. oh DS just rested his leg on my belly and veggiebaby kicked it. is that the beginning of a turf war.

SummerLightning · 29/07/2008 16:14

My husband does the two way conversation thing, I don't know what that says about him!! Or he asks the questions and I answer in a stupid voice!

Congratulations Flumpy and good names! I like Hope most. Phew on the Reijko front, what was he thinking!?

LadyThompson · 29/07/2008 16:18

My DP just bellows her name into my bump from time to time, as if he is shouting into a cave. I think he really wants to talk to her, but feels a bit daft at the same time.

OP posts:
missmama · 29/07/2008 16:22

Hi You lot are lively.
My scan is next Thursday, really looking forward to it, bubs is a wriggler of an evening. But if he is being quiet a bit if chocolate usually wakes him up. Lo

missmama · 29/07/2008 16:24

Sorry keyboard died on me halfway through then.

mibbes · 29/07/2008 16:46

Ooh Missmama my baby hasn't moved all day and have just remembered there is chocolate in the fridge so I'll be giving that a try as soon as I get home

Flumpy fab news ! am so pleased all is going well with you - and bless your DS, what a sweetie ! Loving Daisy and Brooke

My DP usually speaks to us as a pair -'goodnight both of you', 'how are you both today ?' kind of thing - think he would feel silly talking to the bump - but I've told him it can hear him now so I think he probably does want to..

EffiePerine · 29/07/2008 20:04

Gosh lots to catch up on and a new thread

Thank goodness it's getting cooler, was v grumpy in the heat. Sympathies to those not sleeping well: after all those broken nights with DS it takes a lot to stop me getting my sleep .

Had the GTT today and it was fine - wasn't sick, didn't faint, didn't feel too bad acutally (though the sugary stuff is vile). The nurse even managed to get both blood samples with little fuss. Have to wait a week for the results though - when do you hear about yours TYV?

daisydora · 29/07/2008 20:06

flumpy I vote daisy, but then thats what Icalled my DD so I am biased

Think I injured myself this morning. had to get train from a strange station this morning due to engineering works. Got there only to find they had closed the park and ride and I had to park at the nearest supermarket. So had a 10 min walk & 5 mins to catch train - I ran!!!! Well waddled/hobbled/flapped about like a fool, and made it - just. But think have hurt my thigh. Should have warmed up first . Its not like I was that fit beforehand, so it nearly killed me!!!!! Am leaving even earlier in morning to avoid more running/public humiliation.

jumpjockey · 30/07/2008 08:16

Morning all! Blimey you move quickly here, new thread and already 100 posts on it!

Re the looking pregnant thing - it's pretty scary, in the first 20 weeks I put on a grand sum of 1 kg, and in the last week I've gone up by 2.5 and suddenly added 2" to my boobs and waist. Eeek! Still just about getting away with normal clothes, albeit with longer tops than normal to cover the 'is that a baby or just too many pies?' bump, but if it carries on at this rate I'll need a marquee soon.

missmama, your baby sounds just like ours, s/he was quite well positioned for most of the scan but then got into a bad position and stayed there so scanning lady instructed me to go away and eat chocholate which got the little blighter up and jigging in no time!

rosmerta · 30/07/2008 08:16

morning all, looks like another nice day. Thankfully last night was cooler so both ds & I slept a lot better!

Effie, glad your GTT wasn't too bad.

I'm now counting down until my scan (Fri)!

Doozie · 30/07/2008 09:04

Verso hope you are feeling better!

Flumpy congrats on the baby girl.

Missmama hope you are now able to enjoy your pregnancy. Welcome back! I have a dodgy history and had a rocky start to this one and it is hard to sit back, relax & enjoy.

I am trying though, but stuff keeps happening! I had contractions start. Aaahhh, why can't it just go smoothly!! I'm now on drugs to stop them and they seem to be working and my doctor has taken a load more additional tests. I'm back to trying to relax and be positive - but it is a challenge!

Does anyone have a carefree pregnancy? There always seems to be something to worry about. Pregnancy is so bad for one's mental health...

zoejeanne · 30/07/2008 09:05

Morning all - very pleased to hear about all the successful scans and tests yesterday. We had our anomoly scan yesterday too, and pleased to report all is well - baby zj even gave us a wave, so I'm already in love with him/her after that cute move!! We got 5 pics to take home, and the first one I couldn't work out what on earth it was - I eventually realised that it's an earlier picture taken of some part of an 81 yr old man called Walter, so definitely isn't our baby - but by the time I'd worked that out (ie actually read the detail on the pic) I'd already proudly shown it to the in laws!!

Welcome to HollyMiranda, hope you're pregnancy is going well so far.

Have a good day everyone

jenduck · 30/07/2008 09:12

Morning all,

Welcome to the newbies. Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather. I am to a certain extent but I do also find it a bit too hot (at least without a swimming pool to dive into)! I am actually glad to come to work at the moment as we have air conditioning, so it's the one place I don't feel too hot!

Veggiemummy - re aquanatal classes. I believe there are 2 sorts - a very gentle one & a slightly more lively one. I go to a gentle one every Wednesday & love it! Really relaxing & you feel like you're doing exercise which you know is good for baby, as my instructor trained in pre & post-natal aquarobics & baby swimming. Also like seeing the same people each week, starting to build up some friendships there (hopefully).

My DH reads to the bump every night! We are currently working our way through Peter Rabbit & Friends. He says he would feel silly just talking to it, but this way it can hear his voice & he doesn't get tongue-tied. And of course I enjoy the stories too . My BIL used to read to my nephew when he was a bump, and apparently nephew turned his head towards BIL's voice after birth (BIL saw nephew before Dsis as she had c-section under general anaesthetic).

Quite excited as tomorrow am going to look round my 2nd choice of hospital. Is a smallish maternity hospital where they have birthing units & you have room to yourself with birthing pool etc in. First choice (so far) is cottage hospital with similar facilities but only 1-2 births per week (lots of medical attention) & DH can stay overnight in double room type setup.

Little tip for anyone who shops at Tesco. Sign up for Parenting club, if you haven't already & you get loads of vouchers! One is for a free Huggies Beginnings basket, supposed to contain some talc, Huggies Wipes & other stuff (roughly £10 RRP). I got mine the other day & when I got home it didn't have all the promised bumpf in it - 1 pack of tissues was missing. So I emailed Huggies to complain & got £4 in vouchers! Bought some nappies with that, so all in all, a bargain

Better get to work, have a good day all.

zoejeanne · 30/07/2008 09:40

Jenduck - I've been thinking of going to an aquanatal class near me, and it sounds lovely, so I will make enquiries to go next week. I wasn't sure what it would be like, but I think I like the sound of that
