Snowwombat, I am so very sorry to hear of your sad news about Oliver. I will be thinking of you and your DH on Friday.

God bless you all - such tragic news.

zoejeanne · 30/07/2008 17:20

snowwombat, so sad to hear of your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this awful time.

theyoungvisiter · 30/07/2008 21:53

Snowwombat if you are still reading I am so, so sorry to hear about the loss of your lovely son. Please take care of yourself as much as you can.

theyoungvisiter · 30/07/2008 21:56

effie sorry not to have replied to your earlier post, I managed to miss it in all the kerfuffle.

I'm glad your GTT experience wasn't too bad - maybe my horror stories helped in that it couldn't possibly have been as awful as I made you think!

I was told I would hear in a week or two by letter, but I know from other women at the same hospital that if you test positive the midwife calls you pretty quickly. So I haven't got the results yet, but I'm being cautiously pleased that I haven't had any calls - I think no news is tentatively good news - but of course I won't take anything for granted until I get the piece of paper.

Good luck with your results!

Beans33 · 30/07/2008 21:59

I can't remember who was worrying about movement, but I have been too as things have been quiet on the western (more like southern, actually) front.

Tonight I put a DVD on my tummy as I lay on the sofa and the little beast kicked it. Obviously the DVD was moving with my pulse and breathing, but there were definite kicks as well and I haven't felt that before. Has anyone else tried putting something quite light on their tummies before and felt it move? It worked for me tonight, which is great.

Sorry if this is too soon after snowwombat's news, but I thought it might help someone who was worrying about movement.

JamInMyWellies · 30/07/2008 22:04

Beans I think its right for us to carry on. We have all expressed or sorrow for what she is going through and I would think she would like us to remember her but to move forward.

Veggiemummy · 30/07/2008 22:06

no it's fine beans i think we needed that. By the way why did you have a DVD on your belly.

pixsix · 30/07/2008 22:15

Jam i think that's a nice way to put it. I agree with you.

Beans I wanted to ask about movement too. I wondered if anyone else finds that their baby is more active on some days than others? I'm feeling my baby move every day now but yesterday the kicks seemed much stronger and more frequent than they have been today. Do you think it's normal for the baby to have quiet days and lively days at this point? I'm 21 weeks and 3 days.

Oh and going back to an old topic - I finally made it to Bravissimo today and got fitted for a non-underwired bra and it's brilliant. 100 times more supportive and comfortable than the M&S ones I've been suffering with and she fitted me with a 38G which she said had 'room for growth in the back and cups' (I'm usually a 34/36 E/F) whereas the M&S lady measured me as a 42DD which she said was 'a little snug'. I'm glad I haven't really grown as much in the back as the M&S lady made me think.

Hope you are all well and again, my thoughts are with Snowwombat.

JamInMyWellies · 30/07/2008 22:18

M&S are rubbish for mat bras I am normally a 34A and they measured me a 38B! Knew it wasnt right went to good old John Lewis and they said 34C or 36B try both sizes and see which fits better.

theyoungvisiter · 30/07/2008 22:19

pixsix I think that is normal (not an expert from this pg and last one, that seemed to be what happened) and I think that it can be to do with the baby's position (and perhaps a bit to do with the position of the placenta too).

If they are facing your tummy and head down then you can feel the kicks much more strongly and sometimes see them too. If they are facing your spine they are harder to feel and you can't feel them externally of course.

Veggiemummy · 30/07/2008 22:24

just tried putting DS's fridge magnet numbers on my belly to see if i get veggiebaby to kick one but nothing so far. I used to love having a bath when i was pregnant with DS and watch the bathwater ripple around my belly when he moved or had the hiccups.

Doozie · 30/07/2008 22:27

Thanks Beans I had been worried about my bubs lack of movement. Lots of growing pains and aches that I was trying to work out if it was the baby or not. Monday week ago I had a scan and the baby was fine so I wasn't so worried. I just think the baby is a slow starter. Over this weekend though contractions started which was a bit of mare. However I'm on drugs now to stop them and baby still looks fine. But a bit of positive news is I'm 23 wks and I finally felt what could be a baby wobble. A good feeling after a stressy few days.

Doozie · 30/07/2008 22:30

P.S. - will try the DVD test and report back. In the meantime I'm off to bed - night, night.

theyoungvisiter · 30/07/2008 22:37

oh doozie - that sounds scary! I hope it's all ok now. Good luck with the DVD!

What always works for me is a cup of coffee or a cold, sugary drink (cold as possible) and then lie flat on your back - which you are not supposed to do too much late on because of the weight of the bump, but I think a bit is ok, especially at this stage when the bump is fairly small.

Also if you can feel where they are lying (which you sometimes can) you can sometimes poke them into action (mean but fun!).

Anyway off to bed myself now, so night night.

rosmerta · 31/07/2008 08:05

Doozie, sounds very stressful, glad it seems to have settled down.

Hope verso, chutney & ladyt are feeling better

zoejeanne · 31/07/2008 08:43

Good morning all

Glad to see talk about movements - I was just starting to worry that this week I haven't felt much, having had flutters for the previous 2. I know everything is fine as the little one was wriggling like crazy on my scan, and it also showed the placenta is at the front of me. Do placenta's move much? I guess if baby is kicking that and not me I won't feel it, but is it likely to have moed round since the weekend.

Doozie - hope everything progresses well again, that sounds a bit scary!

Have a good day all

Z.x

Veggiemummy · 31/07/2008 09:03

goodmorning Doozie glad you felt the wobble that is nice after your scare, what a nightmare, thank goodness for medical science huh they have so many good drugs. 23 weeks and counting is good.

i had something really interesting to say and now it's gone straight out of my head...no no idea what is was. Oh yeah i woke up starving this morning, out of control have to eat something very substantial, starving. I made some porridge and then remembered i am doing my Erin O'Brien DVD this morning so had just enough to keep me going. Also really thirsty, i must ave been a bit dehydrated as my lips were really dry and the top one actually split. Bizarre, I must have had a really energy consuming sleep last night.

Scan tomorrow yay DH is so excited we will finally find out if our last child will be a boy or girl. I am excited but suddenly a bit nervous that they will find some problem, but i'm sure it will be all good. Rosemerta yours is tomorrow too isn't it, and someine else

Veggiemummy · 31/07/2008 09:04

sorry that was a general goodmorning to everyone not just Doozie

EffiePerine · 31/07/2008 09:05

Just caught up with the thread and wanted to add my thoughts and prayers to snowwombat, baby Oliver and family xx

Doozie: hope you are OK, early contractions sound terrifying. Are you due more scans to check on things?

Pixsix: variations in movement completely normal, also cos they aren;t as obvious at this stage if you have a busy day you might think the baby hasn't moved much at all when in fact you just haven't noticed. I think the time to start monitoring movements and worrying about slow days is in the third trimester, though obviously if you are worried call your mw and see if you can go in for a doppler reading or whatever.

TYV: the nurse said the results would be back in a week and to ring the surgery for them. I will hope I don't receive an emergency phone call in the meantime

Z: I don;t think placentas move from front to back IYSWIM though they do shift as the uterus stretches. That position would mean I'm sure that you wouldn't feel much movement. The one they worry about is if th placenta is low (i.e. partly or fully covering the cervix) cos if it doesn't shift you are at risk of bleeding - btu they will have told you about this at the 20 week scan if it was a problem!

Broken night here: DS coughing and v restless. Muggy hot day as well. I'm hoping for rain...

JollyBear · 31/07/2008 09:11

I'm so sorry to hear your news snowwombat. You are in my thoughts. Take care.

rosmerta · 31/07/2008 09:23

veggie, yep my scan is tomorrow!

Effie, sorry you didn't have a good night's sleep. Ds has also been a bit restless with the hot weather, waking up a couple of times a night for water. I'm back to napping at lunchtime!

Veggiemummy · 31/07/2008 09:23

I had a low lying placenta at 20 weeks last time which grew upwards as the uterus 'grew' or stretched but i think that is as far movement goes. I'm not sure where it ended up being but it was safe were it was and apparently the umbilical cord came out of an odd place on the placenta, it had not baring on how well it worked and they didnt know until it came out. The midwives found it fascinating.
