Hi Ladies,

I've added aswell if thats ok - spoke to a few of you on friday.

summer I don't think im big @ 4.5 mths (except when i have a meal) so i've resisted buying maternity clothes so far as can still fit into my jeans but with a little help from an elastic hair band through the button hole & around the button for the extra bit of comfort... have got a few really good flowy tops which have been great at covering this

Hope everyone had a great evening on Friday.. if there is another date would be definately interested as I live SE London...

Veggiemummy · 28/07/2008 14:22

hello all have been absent all morning as i decided to pour water all over my laptop, luckily after some time with the hairdryer it seems to have survived.

i find it funny how people say 'your really really pregnant' or 'very pregnant' it's like we can be just a little bit pregnant.

Speaking of bad commentby DH's & DP's, early in the pregnancy i said i must be having a girl as my hips and bum were growing quite quickly and i had heard that women that put a lot on their hips and butt tend to have girls, to which DH replied 'thats rubbish i've known skinny pregnant women to have girls'!! also a friends DH tried to comfort he when she was moaning that her pregnancy was making her thighs really fat by saying 'not it's not darling...your thighs are always fat'

PinguRocks · 28/07/2008 14:23

Hi Purple. I am a fellow SE dweller - more towards Canada Water than Rotherhithe, though.

hattyyellow · 28/07/2008 14:30

Great title.

It's soooo humid here. Brain has turned to cotton wool, body just wants to sleep. Not great for working!

Thank god we're not at the end of pregnancy! I had my twins in August 05 and I was just crying with the heat by this time of year back then!

SummerLightning · 28/07/2008 14:36

I had someone guess that I was 22 weeks pregnant when I was only 10 weeks, how she managed that I don't know, felt fat at that point but had only put on 3 lbs and really didn't have a tummy, just a bit chubby!

I consoled myself in the end that she must have thought I was really thin to begin with!

I have put on more weight than my friend who is 23 weeks, but she has a big bump and I haven't. How annoying, my weight just seems to have gone on all over. Wearing maternity clothes, just with them done up tight, as didn't really want to buy normal clothes in a bigger size. Got them off ebay so doesn't matter too much if I outgrow them.

Veggiemummy · 28/07/2008 14:38

oh happy nearly 3rd Birthday to your twins hatty my DS was an August 05 baby as well, heat was bad i stayed indoors most of the time. He had loads of hair when he was born and used to get really sweaty esp against my skin in the sling poor little man.

hattyyellow · 28/07/2008 14:40

Veggie how lovely that we will have exactly the same gap between DC! Happy nearly third to your little boy as well .

It'll be so odd having a winter baby rather than a summer one - I remember the girls being so hot, we'd strip them down and sit by the doors to try and cool them down! This time around we'll be huddling around the fire trying to keep the little one warm instead!

Doozie · 28/07/2008 14:45

I keep having that conversation with DH - do I look fat or pregnant? It is a bit of a 'does my bum look big in this?' question where there is only one answer.

Whose ever DH it was.. they are right about pregnant French women, they just have a perfect, up front, bump attached to their very petite frames. No extra weight on their boobs, bums or thighs and no getting broader. It is depressing as my boobs have just inflated beyond belief, and my 'bump definition' is lost in the general mid-section blurrgh. I held out till 21 weeks before purchasing maternity jeans and have just been wearing smock tops you can buy anywhere which make you look more pregnant than you actually are.

anyone else got elephantine ankles?

LadyThompson · 28/07/2008 15:04

I have it and so does ChutneyMary. Very sorry for myself as I can't breathe through my nose at night, and I have an irritable dry cough and throat feels like I have been gargling on barbed wire, so when I mouth breathe (lovely) it just sets off my cough.

And I love the heat and detest people whinging about it normally, but...I'm too hot sitting at my desk today, my office is like a furnace. We have no aircon and one cheap fan.

OP posts:
SummerLightning · 28/07/2008 15:06

just looked at my ankles, think they may be bigger yes!!

My office has air con so ok, enjoying the weather apart from sleeping and that it makes me more tired if I go outside for too long, partic if I exercise.

Veggiemummy · 28/07/2008 15:19

wow all you who have only just started wearing maternity gear well done apart from the obvious largeness necessitating i also needed quite early (around 15 weeks i think) as i think this baby is quite low and if i tried to sit down in normal lowrise jeans they just cut into what felt like a grapefruit in my lower abdomen, it was really uncomfortable, getting into maternity clothes was such a relief. Also help me look pregnant rather than just fat.

waitinggirl · 28/07/2008 15:23

just bought my first set of maternity jeans in topshop sale - down from £35 to £15 - go grab 'em if you have a topshop maternity dept nearby.

also re: elephantine ankles - i don't need to look at them, i can barely walk in them. especially the one which was sprained - must remember to make an appointment with the doctor...

Purple79 · 28/07/2008 15:34

pingu Your not that far, I live opp the Hilton on Rotherhite St.
I've just found out at seven islands leisure centre they do an aquasplash class for pregnant women on either monday evenings @ 8pm or Tuesday days @ 11.30am - which should be good...

Am very much enjoying the fact we moved offices last october and now have a/c - think I'd melt without it.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 28/07/2008 15:38

Blimey, I'm away from MN for a week and you lot yak away so much you need a new thread . Had a lovely time in Geneva, and DS was so well-behaved on the plane I couldn't believe it!

Hoping for another homebirth this time. Two years ago today was my due-date with DS, and it was hot like this too. Luckily he arrived 3 days later.

I'm a specs wearer too, but only a bit shortsighted (-3.00). I still insisted on keeping them on in labour tho...

Veggiemummy · 28/07/2008 15:38

oh waiting you poor thing, when you call for an apt tell them your preggars that sometimes makes them get you one earlier.

those Topshop jeans sound good i have a pair of H&M 3/4 shorts things from their maternity shop and they are a lifesaver nice and light in this weather. My feet only slightly puffy but had an apt with my homeopath yest and she is gonna sort me out with some meds that will sort out all puffiness including hands. yay.

pixsix · 28/07/2008 15:40

Purple thanks for the aquasplash info, I'm living near Tower Bridge so might well give one of those classes a go next week. Do you know if you have to book?

Purple79 · 28/07/2008 15:57

Pixsix Not sure if you have to book or not but its £7 a time. But i'm going on Mon 11th - i need the exercise. I don't hardly do any, naughty me!

Haven't had any real pregnancy ailments so far but have noticed a potential varicose vein in my left leg... nice!

IceCube · 28/07/2008 16:11

Another tactful DH here, I was sat on the sofa cross legged yesterday and he said I looked like humpty dumpty, nice.

rosmerta · 28/07/2008 16:16

I've not had any comments from dh yet but when I was pregnant last time, about 8mo and massive, he found it hilarious that March of the Penguins was released then!

zoejeanne · 28/07/2008 16:23

The tales of the DH/DP's comments are making me smile this afternoon. After one such comment I did snap back "yes my belly is starting to look like yours now", which was mean and I know that he's always trying to make me feel better but is just useless at putting things nicely, so then I felt bad. The poor boy

Z.x

Purple79 · 28/07/2008 16:44

Lovely DP remark that he's quite attached to @ the moment, as im gettin either ready for work or bed is saying I look HUUUGE, he likes to draw out the word and laugh at the end of it - i don't take any notice as i know he's only winding me up. Plus the fact im all at the front and quite low and haven't put on weight anywhere else apart from boobs - which i dont mind at all.

SummerLightning · 28/07/2008 16:49

Zoe, I have said the same thing to mine - "Oh look you're growing a baby too!"

Thing is, he's usually not been mean to me in the first place, I am just horrid!
