Yes it is a bargain! Who cares if you are conspicuous - better than fading into the background in baggy tracksuit bottoms/saggy t-shirt and trainers like some of the mums who seem to have totally given up round here.

Suppose I better go and pay my children some attention (can you tell I am struggling a bit atm) ...

VintageGardenia · 25/07/2008 13:11

Oh pf you are so right! Bring on the canary!

Sazzles it's because of spd, not opening your legs. As my physio said, I have to do everything as if wearing a pencil skirt (let me assure you I do NOT!) I told my yoga teacher and she was as bit but I gave up the swimming - sometimes it's hard to know whose advice to follow.

TwilightSurfer · 25/07/2008 13:13

VG sounds a bit if you ask me...would think swimming would be wonderful for SPD.

VintageGardenia · 25/07/2008 13:17

Not so wonderful when you are crippled with pain at every stroke alas.

pertelote · 25/07/2008 13:23

VG fab coat, go for it!

Cyteen, what they told us at our antenatal class (and I know this sounds weird) is that the baby can only turn one way once labour starts - and they 'want' to come out facing back-to-front. So if they start on the left they only have 90 degrees to turn, whereas if they start on the right they have to go round the long way, which will inevitably include a period when they are back-to-back, making labour longer and more painful. BUT as I say this theory sounds a bit to me so I hope I haven't sown panic by passing it on! Apparently you can encourage baby round to the left the usual ways, lots of time on all fours, sitting on a gym ball, etc... How this is meant to be combined with advice to raise feet when sitting I have no idea!

ChaCha · 25/07/2008 13:25

Hi VG - Fishing eh? Did you watch DS or did you actually partake? Am interested, read an article in some magazine not so long ago, think it may have been GH and one woman was saying that fishing is a must for women giving all the pros etc.. with two sons (possibly a third, if this is not a boy DH and I will be in absolute shock!) i'd like to get in the know! Funny how your interests and habits change over the years, fishing FGS! LOL.
Sorry you're not feeling too good, hope you have some rest today.

I have just spent a whole HOUR building tracks and bridges and roads for DSs. I can't wait to see their faces when they return from out - i'm going to switch on all the trains at the same time and start narrating favourite train story.... i do have a life honest!!!

LOL at yellow coats meet up!!!!

Poppysocks - Typical! But it's true you know, once you have your section date it's almost like it's set in stone, baby will not come earlier, here's hoping they dont.
DH went out from 10pm last night, my mum was here so i didn't mind, told him he should go out again tonight (feel sorry for him at times with me to put up with) but he declined and said i can't leave you alone right now will start doing x,y and z once baby is here which is worse, now or then, lol!! Can't complain, he is a homely kind of guy mostly.

Sazzles - It's not fair!!!!! Whenever you mention swimming i can literally smell the chlorine... i want to swim!!!

Well, promised everyone lasagne (courtesy of Linda Mcartney this time) so best go put them on x

PF - Hope DS is okay.

miamla · 25/07/2008 13:37

afternoon all
CC, you asked if i'm pregnant..you know what, that might just be the answer i've been looking for? lots of baby things seem to have arrived round here and i seem to have put on a bit of weight recently. perhaps thats the answer, i'm pregnant! cool

seriously, i'm assuming its perfectly normal for reality to suddenly kick in but hmm, it really is kicking in round here. didnt help that a friend who stayed last night kept suddenly saying "you're going to have a baby here in a few days". not very mind soothing! i know she's probably right but still! think i freaked her this morning, we were chatting away and i had to stop because of a sharp pain in my very lower tummy at the front.she's now completely convinced that pip will be here today. i've told him he's got to wait until my other friend, the midwife one, arrives this afternoon!

i'm really restless today, dont tell me, thats another symptom of being pregnant!

VG get the coat! i want one too now!

dizzydixies · 25/07/2008 13:40

hi all just quickly checking in on you all to make sure you're behaving in my absense

thank you for all your lovely messages

VintageGardenia · 25/07/2008 14:05

dizzy xxx

ChaCha I am with you on the trains! I have spent the last 8 years building layouts, going on steam train excursions, etc. DS was utterly obsessed until this year when football started taking over. It's funny what you end up doing, isn't it? Fishing is so not my thing, but yes there I was yesterday sitting by the lake, hooking on prawns and casting and waiting and probably looking completely out of place! But it's nice to do things together, and for an hour of fishing I get great rewards of love from DS so it's worth it. I've tried to make a few good expeditions for him this week so he has a bit of fun before he's knocked off his only-child perch!

Delighted at all the yellow coat approval, wondering should I wait for CC to say it's ok to copy her!

dizzydixies · 25/07/2008 14:08

carry on with the coat VG - she'll take it as a compliment

am having a style and beauty dilema myself - mum's funeral is on Monday and I can't get my feet into ANYTHING other than flip flops - I know it sounds ridiclious and everyone is being fantastic but bloody hell, I never expected to be standing at my mother's graveside in a pair of screaming bright pink havianas - dh has offered me his black riot boots and my cousin offered me her black ug boots - am considering just painting my feet black and wearing a VERY long pair of black trousers

miamla · 25/07/2008 14:13

hi dizz, lovely to see you and of course we're behaving...mostly!
what about some dark flip flops?

longwayfromhome · 25/07/2008 14:14

dizzy - don't know if you could buy some flight socks from boots and wear them for a couple of days beforehand, as if I do this my feet get a bit smaller and trainers are possible. I hope that everything goes OK on Monday.

dizzydixies · 25/07/2008 14:16

longway tbh am not sure I culd stand the heat, I've taken off my beoved tummy tubi grip as am so hot atm

you've just reminded me I have black flipflops too somewhere miamla and I know am being silly as who is going to care other than me what I wear on my feet - ffs, I can't believe the silly things I find to worry about

VintageGardenia · 25/07/2008 14:23

dizzy I would definitely definitely recommend the black flip-flops with black trousers. And I don't think it's silly at all to worry about what to wear to your mother's funeral.

New Look do wide fittings - I don't know how swollen your feet have got, but if a wide fitting would do (and if you can get an hour to pop out) you could try these ballerinas it's really only your toes that are held in.

Or something like this that is really only a couple of straps, but is more shoey than flipfloppy?

longwayfromhome · 25/07/2008 14:24

No, completely understandable to worry about shoes. Again thinking of you for Monday.

Different question - do I need a plastic undersheet for the cot or moses basket? I would have thought not as the baby will be in nappies, and it would be a bit hot, but any advice?

TwilightSurfer · 25/07/2008 14:24

Dizzy how about a nice pair of black mules in a size larger than you normally where?

TwilightSurfer · 25/07/2008 14:26

These aren't the prettiest but do appear to be most gracious for pregnant feet.

VintageGardenia · 25/07/2008 14:27

dizzy I also have several pairs of black maternity trousers, wide-legged, comfy fit, viscosey, yet also smart, that I could get to you over the weekend if they would be of any use to you.

dizzydixies · 25/07/2008 14:27

longway wouldn't bother with that just now - esp in your heat just have enough sheets so if there is an accident you don't worry about washing them etc, am sure I have 4 for moses basket

out cotmattress has a zip off layer to take off the top and wash if need be

VG I have really soft leather hush puppy ballerinas which have expanded with the pregnancy but its more the bulge out of the top that bothers me and the standing stuffed into a shoe for a while - am just holding out for a sunny day now - either that or its dh's wellies!

dizzydixies · 25/07/2008 14:28

VG thank you but I have my 'work' ones which should do - as long as nobody looks too close and notices the large dollop of purple nail polish on my right thigh

TS thank you too - I think I'll just go with the wide trousers over flipflops and try not to make too much of a noise when walking

TwilightSurfer · 25/07/2008 14:30

Quite the quick fashionistas aren't we....

VintageGardenia · 25/07/2008 14:31

Paint your toenails purple again, that would be nice with the black, and would explain the splodge if anyone was rude enough to notice. xxx

dizzydixies · 25/07/2008 14:31

lol - my brother (bless him) said if it was really bothering me they would put a request on the death notice for brightly coloured flip flops to be worn only
