Yarnie congrats on reaching 8 weeks - it is a big milestone as risk of MC reduces to 3%

Mollie we don't get NT scan in Scotland either (I actually thought everyone in England got it as nearly everyone on my AN thread seemed to). Anyway I looked into a private one and decided that I'd go for it as, like you, I was not prepared to have amnio if bloods were high risk, however they can only do the NT scan within a short window - 10-13 weeks or something like that so by the time I'd decided I was too late . Here we get the bloods taken at 16 weeks so if they had come back high risk I'd have been too late for NT scan anyway. Check the timescales for NT scan and bloods as you may want to go for the NT scan anyway - when I was waiting for my blodd results I wished I had.

FruitynNutty · 12/08/2008 14:17

ooh really mibbes So I'm almost out of the woods then too!
I wonder why you don't get your bloods taken until 16 weeks, that doesnt seem fair. I have to get my bloods done on the 28th August so the results are ready for the 12 week NT scan on the 4th Sept.
I remember not worrying at all when preg with DS but this time it seems to be on my mind. I remember them saying to me at the scan I had the same chance as a 16 year old would have of having a baby with Downs(I was 25). I hope it's the same this time around!

Have you all signed up to Babycentre yet? it gives you a week by week update via email. You get a nice little picture too

teeheelaydee · 12/08/2008 17:25

NT scans are not free in Norwich either and same as Mibbes you really have to decide before you have your bloods. I think I will go for it though as I just don't want all the agonizing waiting for results. Mind you at the moment week 14 might as well be 100 years away it seems soooo far off.

Yarnie Good to hear you are doing OK and 8 weeks is your first little milestone.

Fruity I too have discovered the wonder of breadsticks. Also I was chatting with my friend today who is 21 weeks and she said she hasn't stopped worrying the whole time and she has one already that went really smoothly. Maybe the older we get the more we hear about other peoples disappointments. Whatever it is if I keep up this level of paranoia and loo visiting I will be in a looney bin by April (and be v/dehydrated)

Mollie May not have been this thread but I think you mentioned you are back to work soon. Take care of yourself won't you and if the sickness comes back for goodness sake lady STAY AT HOME!!

I am currently symptom spotting and then trying to work out if they are real symptoms or if I am imagining them. Aaaaarrrrgh! Someone please slap me and tell me to pull myself together.

Current symptoms are occasional nausea, indigestion when I eat ANYTHING, waking up at 5 every day and still a very upset stomach.

Scan on Friday- that's 64 hours away (not that I'm counting)
I think I have now been too long alone in the house and am going a bit mad, thank goodness seeing DP on Saturday (that's a manic grin btw)

FruitynNutty · 12/08/2008 17:53

Awww I bet you can't wait to see DP on Saturday teehee Remember to ask for a picture of your scan! Luckily I didn't have to pay for my early scan but I think these days you have to pay for pics at the 12 week and 20 week scans. I got mine free only 3 years ago!
Norwich too? I've never heard of not having the NT 12 week scan as routine. Shows how much I know
I think you're right about hearing other people's disappointments as time goes on. When I was having DS I don't think I knew anyone who'd had problems as I was one of the 1st of my friends to fall preg. I just assemed all would be well. Although I just knew the little bugger wouldn't want to come out! I really do think he'd still be in there if it were up to him

My friend is currently waiting patiently for her baby girl to arrive. Her waters broke on Sunday night nearly a week overdue. She's been to the hospital twice and is back at home again. She was having really strong contraction 5 minutes apart for 2 hours and she was only 1 cm dilated These babies are stubborn little buggers aren't they! She made me laugh because she said all the way through that she thought she would have the baby at 37 weeks. I kept telling her it would be well overdue but she didn't believe me.

Teehee those symptoms sound like the real deal to me!

OP posts:
cricri · 12/08/2008 18:10

Have been busy with work all day so this is my first chance to catch up!
Mollie NT scans are not available on the NHS in Colchester either so I went to the Fetal Medicine Centre in London for mine (brilliant btw). It's a real postcode lottery as to whether you get one on the NHS or not. I just got a bog-standard dating scan at the local hospital - in and out in 5 minutes and £3 for the picture FMC gave us 10 pictures for free (although after paying for the scan I guess that's as it should be!) and the quality was much better. DH's sister has Down's so he was keen to have the NT scan and FMC had been recommended by friends. The mw told me that strictly speaking you shouldn't have the NT scan and the triple test as the way they work out the risk factor is slightly different and it can confuse things if you are high risk on one but not the other Something like that anyway. But if you're really sure that you wouldn't have the amnio then perhaps there's no need to have the scan in the first place? If the NT scan comes up high risk then you will be offered the CVS or amnio to find out for sure in any case.
Teehee I've just realised you're up the road from me Your symptoms sound good to me. Not long to go until your scan...
Yarnie Good that your symptoms are manageable - long may it continue! Congratulations on getting to 8 weeks too
Fruity Hope your friend has her baby soon. I'm trying very hard not to think about going overdue - I'll be drinking raspberry leaf tea at 36 weeks in a bid to start things off even though I can't stand those fruit teas
Hi to everyone else

FruitynNutty · 12/08/2008 18:16

cricri my friend tried everything from 37 weeks onwards. Nothing worked. I tried everything too and DS was 12 days late plus I had to be induced then ended up having emergency C-section so he really wasn't going to come out on his own, ever! I think as long as you keep in your head the baby will be two weeks late then you won't be too disappointed if she/he is and if baby is early then it'll be a pleasant surprise

Sparkly08 · 12/08/2008 19:32

Hi all,
Haven't been feeling too good today but am still finding it reassuring. Couldn't eat for a few hours this am and the managed a bit of a ham and cheese baguette and some cheesy and tomato pasta for dinner....I really have a thing for cheese at the moment. My cholestrol is going to be about 234865384948 .
Mollie Monday is less than a week away . I can't believe how quickly your pregnancy is passing (for me anyway). I'm really looking forward to seeing some pics of you bean.
Yarnie I must remember to buy some ginger biscuits. I ate them alot during my pregnancy with DD. Have an excellent time in Spain if I don't 'see' you before.
Fruity It makes me so that we have to pay full price for toddlers on holiday. We went to book a holiday but the cheapest we found was £750 each for a weekhalf board. There is noway I would pay £300 a day for DD to be in a different country!! stingy In Cardiff they induce you 24-48 hours after a membrane rupture because of the risk of infection. I really hope your friend doesn't have too long to wait. Being overdue sucks.
Mibbes I'm counting down the days until 8 weeks after reading your bit of useful info. It seems so far away.....
Teehee LOL at your manic grin. I hope the time passes really quickly between now and your scan. Bet you can't wait until the weekend.

Hi to everyone else.

FruitynNutty · 12/08/2008 19:49

well I thought they induce you if your waters break because of infection but for some reason they were going to leave my friend till Weds. Thankfully they are now going to induce her tonight. Sounds so similar to my experience, I bet she ends up with an emergency C-section.
Don't worry about your cholesterol now, go with it and enjoy! When can you ever let your hair down food wise if you can't while preg? I had 5 slices of marmite toast and half a pack of ginger biscuits for my lunch mollie will be cross with me

OP posts:
Sparkly08 · 12/08/2008 19:51

LMAO at you and your lunch

Yarnie · 13/08/2008 14:45

Hi everyone

TeeHee Not long to go now until your scan! I can't wait until my next one, but it's a really long time away

Fruity All this talk of marmite has got my mouth watering. I feel compelled to go and buy a jar right now!

Everyone in my family seems to hang on to their babies for a long time. My mum was 3 weeks overdue when I arrived, although that was back in the old days when they let you go on that long. I popped out like a greased weasel though, so nature obviously knew what it was doing!

Cricri What is raspberry leaf tea meant to do for you?

Mibbes Thanks for the stat - it's very reassuring! I don't feel nauseous today, so of course I'm worrying about that rather than enjoying feeling well. You really can't win when you're pg, can you?!

Hope you're feeling well Mollie and Sparkly.

MollieMooma · 13/08/2008 16:05

Yarnie Glad to hear your symptoms are manageable, hope it stays that way Lovely to "see" you back on here, hope your not working yourself too hard! Have a lovely relaxing holiday
Mibbes I re-read my pack the MW gave me and didn't realise the bloods aren't done til 16 weeks so now feel pressured to make a decision about the NT scan, is there anyway they can do them earlier or does it not work that way - anyone know? Think I'll chat to MW on Sunday at my booking appt.
Teehee Yes went back today, but I will heed your advice
Fruity Shall do we a labour dance for your friend or has she popped since yesterday? LOL at me being cross with you - if only you knew how big and cuddly I am, I'm a great one for handing out dietary advice I think you should stop worrying about what your eating right now from this second onwards and just enjoy your pg, you've waited long enough! You will have plenty of time to lose babyweight afterwards, If these celebs can do it in 2 months then we can do better You have until August haven't you? Easy

cricri · 13/08/2008 18:06

Mollie I think you need to decide whether to have NT scan or triple test. As I said yesterday, the MW will probably suggest that you don't have both, although by all means ask her. You have until 13 weeks to decide on a NT scan in any case so you have a bit of time. Do you have a private hospital near you? Alternatively I found out at my 4D scan last week that Babybond website here do NT scans. There may be one near you - I'm afraid I don't remember where you live though.
Yarnie Raspberry leaf tea is meant to help kickstart labour. My homeopath mentioned it yesterday and I remembered I'd seen stuff about it on here as well.
Fruity Has your friend had her baby yet?
Hope everybody is OK on this wet and windy evening - where has the summer gone?!

mibbes · 13/08/2008 19:06

Yarnie being PG is just a constant worry ! I woke last night in a half-asleep panic, thinking 'OMG I have a baby in belly and I have to give birth to it (somehow get it out of a very small opening !) then I have to look after it, what the h3ll am I doing ?...' I took ages to calm down and got quite breathless and panicky YIKES ! I still have 16 weeks to panic ! I felt far calmer by the morning but I think now that I'm more than halfway am starting to worry about the birth bit.

Mollie I have the idea in my head that they take the bloods at 16 weeks for a reason - levels of hormones high enough to be useful in that specific test.. I may be wrong though, check with MW. If I ever get PG again I'll pay for the NT scan as I was in a right old state over the bloods and the possibility of an amnio.. In addition I think the NT scan is far more accurate than the bloods which have a scarily low accuracy rate.

FruitynNutty · 13/08/2008 19:14

Hey guys, yes my friend finally gave birth today late morning, 9 days overdue. Only weighed 6lbs! Thankfully she had a normal delivery. I'm desperate to meet the new baby but she's the type of person who likes to enjoy these moments with just her man So I'm going to leave her a couple of days, it will be very very hard though! FWIW I tried Raspberry leaf tea (gallons of the stuff plus masses of pineapple, curry, sex, hot baths etc..) and so did my friend but we both still had to be induced. I don't think anything really works unfortunately Baby will just come when he/she's good and ready much to our annoyance! Still there's no harm in trying, makes you feel like you're doing something to help

OP posts:
FruitynNutty · 13/08/2008 19:16

If it's any help, my bloods are being taken at 11 weeks, a few days before they do the NT scan

OP posts:
Sparkly08 · 13/08/2008 19:44

I'm slightly worried....when I went to the loo I had some brown stained discharge. It was only a small amount and I haven't had any bleeding or pain. I just took my temp and it's above 37 (have no idea why I did this!!). Am not seeing doc until a week today. Do you think the bean is ok?

Yarnie I was just over 3 weeks overdue and my DD was 15 days. Hopefully you won't follow your family trend. It's awful when you go over your due date!!
Cricri It's very wet and windy here too . I'd love a bit of sun but I think this weather is forecast for another few days.
Fruity I tried everything to get DD out too...but I don't think much helps. Congrats to your friend.

FruitynNutty · 13/08/2008 19:57

Sparkly brown blood is old blood. It's the bright red stuff you need to worry about My implantation was brown, maybe still nestling in and getting comfy

OP posts:
teeheelaydee · 13/08/2008 20:43

Sparkly Doesn't sound too sinister if it is just a little but I know that won't stop your brain going into overdrive. Fruity is right about colour and no pain either sounds good. A huge percentage of women have some spotting so please don't panic.

Mibbes Don't wish to make you panic more but only 16 weeks to go - Wow!

Yarnie I am exactly the same with symptoms. Feel lousy when I have them and panicky when I don't. It's actually amazing I think that we manage to live a normal life, go to work etc with all these extra thoughts running around. I have mixed feelings about scan excited and nervous and dreading it. When is your next one and how far along will you be?

Oh god there were loads more things I was going to say but I am soooo tired I can't think straight. Went to do some pre-holiday shopping today (ie books and Boots) DP wants me to bring a certain book out to him and I had to go to three different shops to get it, so also got wet {boo}. So will just have to say hey to everyone else and night night zzzzzzzz

mibbes · 13/08/2008 21:34

Sparkly please don't worry, so many women get small bleeds and even bright red is not always bad as mine was bright red - as long as it is light and no major cramps all is more than likely well. Mention it to GP and you'll maybe sneak an early scan . I called EPU but was just told to rest. More than half of my friends have now told me that they bled in the first 12 weeks. At your early stage it is more than likely implantation - my bleed was at about 6 weeks. {{big hugs}} xx

FruitynNutty · 14/08/2008 08:06

Hey Sparkly have you seen your GP yet?

OP posts:
Sparkly08 · 14/08/2008 09:09

Morning all,
I tested this morning just to check and got a v v v v strong BFP so I'm not worrying too much. The discharge wasn't even that brown so I'm sure everything is fine. Am seeing the GP on Wednesday because she's on holiday until then. I'm determined to get an early scan though - I think I'll play on the spotting and being unsure about LMP. . Thank you all for your reassurance. xx

FruitynNutty · 14/08/2008 15:11

Told you not to worry You make sure you get that early scan, it's fascinating to see beany at such an early stage in it's development!

OP posts:
MollieMooma · 15/08/2008 16:59

Sparkly I had a one off small bleed/spotting about a week after my BFP, Doctor just confirmed what everyone said on here that it was just beanie getting comfy and nothing to worry about. So I am sure that will be the same for you hun, try not to worry
Fruity How are you feeling, still feeling yuck? I got really excited on Weds night it was the first time in 4 weeks that I hadn't been sick in the evening and I felt really good yesterday, started to think things were really looking up, but threw up last night and felt rough this morning, so back to normal
Mollie waves to everyone else x

Sparkly08 · 15/08/2008 17:58

It's been quiet in here recently....

How are all you lovely, pregnant women feeling?

Mollie I'll give your sickness a kicking for you!! Maybe send it to me as I need a bit of reassurance .

FruitynNutty · 15/08/2008 18:47

Maybe your MS went on holiday for couple of days Mollie Oh poor you, doesn't sound like much fun

Oh, my poor friend who finally gave birth on Weds is having an awful time

She had a bad reaction to the epidural and couldn't move her neck and the baby couldn't breath properly. They thought, Oh this is nice, our baby doesn't even cry! But the poor little mite could barely breath let alone cry. Anyway, they thought she had a mucus blockage and were going to have to do an emergency op but after x-ray decided it wasn't that bad and it had cleared.
however, last night my friend was asleep but woke up suddenly to find the baby lying there blue Talk about mother's instinct!
They stuck a camera down her little throat and still said there's nothing wrong. Anyway, she seems to be improving but bloody hell, what a palava! My friend and her man are climbing the walls with worry I feel so helpless
