Sparkly08 · 07/08/2008 20:07

I've decided that I'll throw my thermometer in the bin tomorrow after I've (hopefully) had my 18th high temp. I find it hard to let go....

FruitynNutty · 07/08/2008 20:18

Oooh Sparkly my mum was round today, she's given me some sweet pics of your DD and my DS at Hyde Park When I get a chance I'll copy them and send them to you x

FruitynNutty · 08/08/2008 17:00

Bloating still there although I don't actually feel bloated, just got a big belly. My friends keep pointing it out luckily they know!

I can't wait for us to have bumps! It might feel real then!

Sparkly08 · 08/08/2008 19:35

Talking of bloated bellies....I found it hard to do any of my jeans up today. Just had my first encounter of having to lie too. We always meet friends early friday evening for a quick drink and I asked DP to get me a lime and soda so I could pretend it was vodka. He came back with a pint so someone asked me why I wasn't drinking. I said I was on antibiotics. I knew they could see straight through me!
Any tips for dealing with these situations?

mibbes · 08/08/2008 23:21

Oh dear Sparkly it is a tricky situation - I managed by drinking red grape juice at home and pretending it was wine - or non-alcoholic lager. Maybe get DP to order an non-alcoholic lager ?... Far trickier when out in the pub.

I had a bad day today when a really fat woman at my work (I am talking over size 20) told me my bump is way bigger than hers was at my stage - I don't actually have a massive bump (at least I don't think so !) so am pretty sure she just wanted me to feel fat - WITCH ! I was quite upset at the time, but now just think she is a nasty fat cow - she said it when nobody else was around too, presumably in case someone picked her up for being so unpleasant grrrr... Anyway, at least my bump is growing properly - so big is good (that's what DP said !) Saw a lady at Docs today with a bump barely bigger than mine and she is 32 weeks ! She told a friend in the waiting room that the MW is worried baby not growing properly - so I'd rather be big and healthy than like her

Sparkly08 · 09/08/2008 09:19

Mibbes Thanks for the tips. Ignore the fat lady she's just jealous!! I had those comments the whole way through my first pregnancy. It was very obvious I was pregnant from 8 weeks (because there wasn't much to me before then). It doesn't mean a big baby either..my DD was 8lb 6 which is a fair size but now for the size of my bump IYKWIM. You might just be carrying a lot of water.

MollieMooma · 10/08/2008 09:21

Mibbes Don't you worry about the size of your bump, that lady doesn't sound like a nice person and like Sparkly said is probably just jealous coz your smaller than her but can I ask does that mean I'm a really fat person as I'm over a size 20

I'm dreading the whole business of people who are unsure if I've put on weight or am I really pg! My bump probably won't show until Christmas

Oh well who cares if I get a lovely cuddly healthy baby at the end of it and I'll just lose the weight like J-Lo straight after

mibbes · 10/08/2008 13:00

OOps Mollie sorry didn't mean to offend - I'm sure you're lovely - if that lady was a nice person I'd not have been as rude about her weight, but she is an evil cow so I felt justified in having a dig . TBH I don;t think am particularly big for over 5 months PG - friends yesterday were diapppointed that I didn't look at atall PG until they saw the side view . At least that means am not piling on pounds elsewhere apart from bump ...yet. I believe the 'laying down fat stores' bit is just around the corner though !

Sparkly08 · 10/08/2008 20:25

My boobs are still quite sore!!! No other symptoms though. When do they normally kick in? I can't really remember when I started feeling exhausted with DD.

How are you all feeling pregnant ladies?
Yarnie and Fruity Where are you hiding?

cricri · 11/08/2008 07:35

Sparkly My nauseau started at around 6-7 weeks and lasted until around 13 weeks, although it was worse around 8-9 weeks. I didn't feel all that tired, certainly not in the same way as some women describe it. The sore boobs continued until maybe 8 weeks Can't remember! Perhaps you'll be lucky and not have any symptoms
Mibbes I can't believe what that lady said to you about your bump Everybody is different and will show differently and tbh most (non-pg) people don't have a clue about what constitutes a big bump or not. Lots of people on my AN thread have posted photos of their bumps on their profiles so that's been useful for me to compare, but even then you can see there is a huge variation. I think that as long as the mw is happy and you're measuring correctly then there's nothing to worry about. Plus, as Sparkly said, a big bump doesn't indicate a big baby anyway.
Hope everybody else is OK this morning

MollieMooma · 11/08/2008 09:38

Sparkly My boobs were sore one week before AF due and still are! Can't get comfy at night and I haven't even got a bump to get in the way yet MS started wk 6 for me and so far has been the worse about 7/8 wks, starting to ease a bit now. Tiredness hit same time as MS, again a little bit better I don't fall asleep everynight on the sofa now, just every other

Hope everyone else is OK?

FruitynNutty · 11/08/2008 14:57

my friend just emailed me this baby development site It shows a 3d cartoon picture of every week which you can rotate. Quite fun really.

Cricri I'm feeling exhausted today so I'm sure the symptoms are kicking in. It's reassuring to feel yuk .
Mollie Not too long until your scan now . I've forgotten when it is though .
Fruity That site is really sweet!

MollieMooma · 12/08/2008 09:02

Fruity Thanks for the link, it's quite funny making the LO jig about!
Sparkly Scan is next Monday now I can say it's less than a week away!

Can I ask a question? Are the NT scans done on the NHS in your areas of the country or are they only available privately? Just found out ours is only private in Cardiff or Birmingham, don't know whether to see what the bloods come back with and then decide?

Sparkly08 · 12/08/2008 09:19

Mollie Not long now then . I didn't know they did NT scans. I think the normal process is the blood test and then an amnio if you are 'high risk'. This might only be NHS though. xx

MollieMooma · 12/08/2008 09:26

I don't really want the amnio if I am high risk, I'm too scared of m/c so may just have to cough up for the scan, it's not the idea of paying for it, it's just that we are so skint at the moment Oh well I'll see what the bloods are first x

FruitynNutty · 12/08/2008 09:35

Mollie Surely you get an NT scan on the NHS? It's the 12 weeks scan. Do you not get a 12 week scan? What scan have you got next Monday?

OP posts:
MollieMooma · 12/08/2008 10:02

My scan Monday is my 12 week scan (although I'll be jut under 11 wks) but the Nuchal Translucency Scan is completely different, it means you don't have to have the amnio or CVS, they check the NT fluid at the base of the neck, the nose, and the heart valves. It is 90% accurate but no risk of m/c

Yarnie · 12/08/2008 10:55

Hello All

Sorry I've been AWOL. We have been in a hive of feverish activity at home and away recently and I've barely picked up my laptop.

It's good to catch up on all your news.

NT scans are done on the NHS in my area, Mollie, but only if you are classified as high risk, i.e. if you are over 35. I am not so I won't be having one (unless I get some alarming blood results).

All's well here. I've been feeling slightly nauseous over the last week, but it's completely manageable at the moment. Lemon & ginger tea and my ginger biscuits seem to keep it in check. I'm much more bothered by my erratic bowels

I'm off to San Sebastian in Spain next week for 5 days. It has similar weather to the UK, but I'll get a change of scenery and hopefully some lovely food.

Sparkly, I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and haven't had any particularly notable symptoms beyond mild nausea and my stupid bowels, and I'm perhaps a bit more tired than usual.

FruitynNutty · 12/08/2008 12:50

My 12 week scan with DS was an NT scan. I wasn't high risk. Maybe it's different in London. I can't believe you don't have it as part of your scan In London they call the 12 weeks scan the NT scan. My NT/12 week scan is on 4th Aug. I'll be just under 12 weeks.
Surely they can have a look at your 12 week scan, what are they looking for then? I'm just amazed it's not done where you are. I suppose there has to be some perks to living in London
Yarnie! hello there stranger I bet you're so excited about your holiday! I'm very We're trying to save up so we can go away at Christmas time. We're hoping to get a last minute deal somewhere. Trouble is it gets very expensive when you have to pay adult price for a 3 year old
