Roca · 15/07/2008 22:57

just popping in to see how you all are

TBH bras have been a right pain in the arse since I fell pg with my first - I have a drawer full of them of all different shapes and sizes, from maternity to feeding to normal and all of them are uncomfortable. I'm treating myself to a fitting at Rigby and Peller after I finish BF and loose the 3 stone that I'm going to after this baby!

Wired or not the first thing I have to do when I get home for the evening is take mine off. I hope that's not against any pg laws?!!

Roca · 15/07/2008 22:59

feel like my bump is gonna burst tonight - have aches and pains under bump and in monce areas

have been feeling waddly and sorry for myself!

roca - hope you feeling a little better. i keep being worried that i am waddling early (24wks). Doesn't help either that whenever I go to get up from my desk my legs don't seem to function properly until at the end of the room after passing everyone. Imagine a long room and me trying to walk as fast as I can in a crab like movement .

seen your pics on profile. No wonder you are having no 3 when you 2 kids are so gorgeous.

Yorky · 16/07/2008 07:52

Good morning all
Ceebee, I hope your scan goes well today
Roca and vbab enjoy waddling but hope you feel better soon

Has anyone been thinking about who to have to help when baby arrives? DH has been told he can have the day off for the birth (gee thanks boss) but as he'll be at the end of a course, ie the assessment phase, he can add his paternity leave to his Christmas stand down, which starts when baby should be around 3wks old. I'll be fine on my own with a newbie and a nearly 2yr old won't I? Have looked at maternity nanny - scary money, my mum is a teacher and I don't want baby to arrive in half term about a month early, have suggested we get a cleaner for a few hours a week so I have to do less, but he got really sniffy when I said no way was his mother coming to stop with me when hes away Mon-Fri. He knows we don't see eye to eye, and never have so why would I want her around when I'm likely to have rampant hormones

tegan · 16/07/2008 08:00

i promise to try and keep up with this thread.

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 08:33

yorky - I would have thought your DH legally would be allowed to take paternity leave whenever he wants after baby is born.

Also to have time off for the birth no matter how long it takes. Only one day?! What if things started and stopped or your thought it was labour and it wasnt?

It sounds like he has a STUPID employer.

My DH will be at the birth however long it takes and work will just have to sort themselves.

My DH is taking 2 weeks paternity leave and pay as soon as baby born because he is entitled but so he can have bonding time and help me if necessary. Who knows I could have a CS this time around?

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 08:40

yorky - this help? www.berr.gov.uk/employment/employment-legislation/employment-guidance/page17139.html

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 08:45

My dh is not entitled to paternity leave, becasue he hasn't worked for his employer for long enough.
Mind you at £117 per week, it would be no good anyway.

ceebee74 · 16/07/2008 08:52

Oblomov - my DH is in exactly the same position. He hasn't worked for his employer long enough to qualify for paternity leave (plus, there is no way we could afford the drop in pay for 2 weeks!) so he is saving 2 weeks holiday to be taken once the baby is born - his employer is quite flexible fortunately so this isn't an issue. Only downside is that this means he hasn't got enough holiday left for us to actually have a holiday this year before the baby arrives!!

Yorky - I agree, there is no way I would have my MIL to stay - I would strangle her within a day I think!! My mum has offered to come and stay but both me and DH are private people who like our own space so I think we would prefer to muddle along for those 2 weeks - maybe when DH has gone back to work, I might appreciate the help (although it will nearly be Christmas by then anyway!)

Scan is at 10.40 so trying to distract myself - maybe I should have gone to work for an hour or so

Morning All,

Mmmmm looks like the thread turned weird yesterday... My advice re the bra thing: Bollocks to it all - let's all hang loose! JOKE, i realise that for some people that would involve a lot of friction burn and may not be the best advice ... plus wow wouldn't we look funny.

Anyway, good luck Ceebee hope all goes well. x

ChocOrange05 · 16/07/2008 09:21

Morning all!

ceebee good luck for your scan - we look forward to good news!! Are you finding out the sex?

Yorky I have no advice on how you will cope - personally I don't see how it could be that difficult but then I have no experience and am a complete optimist so don't listen to me at all!

What about a Doula - are they as expensive as a maternity nanny?

Luckily for me DH works for The Guardian who are all nicey nice so he gets his 2 weeks paternity at full pay which is a big help.

Have a good day all.

serendippity · 16/07/2008 09:51

Bah, feeling soooo out of it!
Double buggys? no idea, don't need one. Ds (Can't believe i am saying ds!) will be using McClaren dd used. Very of all pram hunting
Bras? no idea. My boobs, tho bigger are still reasonably small and always have been...never really gone for underwired. Very of all hunting for new bras, underwired or not, to support lovely big norks
Personaly i like pinkali's idea of letting it all hang loose, we could all meet up and frighten everyone with our newly freed boobs
Paternity leave: a bit at sea with this one as well. I thought everyone was entitled to 1 weeks leave on full pay, and it's discretionary as to if your employer gives you week two or not {confused emicon} dp had take an extra weeks unpaid when dd was born, but i cannot remember why. With this one tho he gets his 2 weeks on full pay. Sorry I realise this isn't helpful in the slightest
chocorange i think ceebee has already found out she is having a boy, and is having another scan to check on his bowl as there may be a problem.
ceebee best of luck, i'm sure there will be nothing to worry about. We're all thinking of you today i'm sure. I'm full of admiration for your attitude re all of this btw

Anybody having problems with pulled tummy muscles? Every time i turn over in bed i seem to pull one and it blimmin' hurts
Love the thread title! except every time i see the words "minty gaviscon" it makes me want to retch- i'm original aniseed all the way!
Well i am in for a busy day today, i pick dd and her freind up from nursery at 11.30am and have them both until about 6.00pm. Dd's freind is lovely but rather..er...demanding shall we say. I'm feeling really nausuas today as well.
Still, sun is shining (so far) house is tidy (so far) and i have a couple of child free hours to relax in. If the sun stays out i'll just take them both to the outdoor pool and let them splash themselves tired for an hour
Catch ya later.

Tinkerisdead · 16/07/2008 09:56

Hi All...
Yorky my Dh is going to be off with me for two weeks and my mum is absolutely nagging me to death to come and stay. She has had this dream for years that when i have a baby she will come and stay. i cant bear the thought. ive said she can stay after DH goes back to work for two weeks, then come back for christmas. Prob is as im having a home birth (please god) my in laws all live within 4 streets of me and i know they will keep dropping in. the only one fierce enough to ward them off is my mum....
I would want my DH with me, not only for the help but for him to have time in private with our new baby.
ceebee good luck today xx

Tinkerisdead · 16/07/2008 09:59

Serendipity made me laugh about pulled muscles...im still on crutches and using a wheel chair after injuring mine. its agooooony

Pinkali37 · 16/07/2008 10:04

My husband is his own boss and we work from offices attached from the house THIS ALL SOUNDS GOOD BUT......... our employee told us just before we annouced we were expecting a baby in November that he had booked a 2 and a half week holiday in November starting 10th!!!! I am due 14th!!!!!!!!!! OH BOY WAS I NOT HAPPY... If he hadn't booked it I wouldn't mind but he just went ahead and booked it without asking if it was ok. Anyway, long and short is DH will obviously be aroudn for the birth and as much as he can after until Employee gets back and then after that he has decided he is going to slow down a bit and take every Wednesday off so we can all be together... YIPPEE....

Anyway, erm.... what else was I going to say? This brain of mine has gone i'm so pleased i'm not practising law anymore (could you imagine my clients faces when i kept on saying "erm")

Tinkerisdead · 16/07/2008 10:10

Pinkali, what part of law did you practice in? Just found out I helped company win tribunal this week but now they want me to attend another one in OCTOBER!! i said no way and they said they would supeanor (sp?) me. argghhhhh. any employment law knowledge? x

Yorky · 16/07/2008 10:15

Dh works for RAF and they are good in that he gets two extra weeks leave at full pay, SPP is about two days on normal money! Its just the fact that he will be at the assessment part of the course when baby comes which makes it difficult.
I felt fine after DS, looking for opinions from those with 2+ DC already as to how much harder it is the 2nd time, am sure local friends/church will help in evenings and Dh will be home eat the weekends. Am I being optimistic to think a freezer full of precooked dinners and a cleaner and I'll muddle through?
Pinkali I hope your baby arrives a little bit early so you and Dh have some time, and your employee will appreciate his holiday more!
Good luck to Serendipity with your extra child for the day, hope the nausea feels better soon

Pinkali37 · 16/07/2008 10:23

Dr's Wife - I was (or officially still am until October when Practising certificate runs out) a commercial solicitor which in our firm didn't include Employment. We had our own Employment lawyer. I was company Commercial and a lot of commercial property. Always stayed away from anything involving advocacy!! Well done though, sounds like you did a grand job. I was always quite happy looking through 200 page leases and contracts never wanted to stand in front of courts of tribunals. What is it you do or did then??

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 11:15

morning all!!

I was under the impression ALL father's got 1 week at full pay???? Irrespective of how long they had worked for the company??? may be wrong though....

Ceebee - am thinking of you xxxxxxx

AS for Bras - let's do as Pinky says and let it all hang loose!!!!!!

I am having a freak out at the moment - my BF told me that her stepmother was told 2x at scans she was expecting a GIRL and then delivered a BOY...Pinkyminky was also saying that boyts can be mistaken for girls and now I am paranoid that I am NOT having a girl but a boy!!!!! I have already bought lots of girlie stuff, and sorted out my baby boy stuff and have a niggling feeling it now might be a boy.....shall i just pay the £100 for a private scan and get 100% confirmation??! (The question is, how do i do this without DH finding out as he thinks it is ridiculous!!)

Any suggestions??!!

DM xx
