Just a quickie before I have to go back to work. Everything seems ok with the baby - the radiologist was really nice and explained loads more to us than we got last week! She doesn't see any problems - it could be due to various infections so they have taken blood to check for those or there is a very very very slim chance that it could be due to cystic fibrosis but this is incredibly rare but both me and DH have given blood to check if we are carriers or not. The results should be back within a couple of weeks but the radiologist was very reassuring that everything was ok.

Will catch up later

vbab don't worry, DH gave me a funny look the other day and it made me burst into tears! As I said before we have a very good excuse for irrational now! Hope you feel better soon - and sometimes a good cry helps!

Dozy - if it was your BF's stepmother, how long ago was the mistake made?? If it was a long time then I would imagine technology has improved...

I also agree with what Obs said too as maybe you are just worrying because you really want a girl.

Yorky · 16/07/2008 13:00

ceebee thats good, its a shame about the CF hanging over you but I'm sure everything will be fine.

Pinkali37 · 16/07/2008 13:02

My personal view on 4d scans is, why would I want to see what th baby actually looks liek before it is born. It really does take all the anticipation and excitement out of the 9 months to know exactly what you're getting. Flavour wise, this is one thing but to actually see the facial characteristics is another. To me, it would take away the total surprise once born.. THIS IS ONLY MY VIEW

I had an argument with my mum last night and I drove off and burst into tears when i got home (all 1 mile). I walked into the offices and burst into tears and was like a wreck for a good 10 minutes. DH bless him thought something awful had happened. I think I have been really lucky as that was the first time (apart from when 8 weeks pregnant and thought there was a problem) that I have cried. We are allowed to burst into tears etc.. it is our right as pregnant personnel. xxx

EVERYONE DON'T FORGET TO KEEP SMILING xxxx

Pinkali37 · 16/07/2008 13:03

p.s. Ceebee - am soooo pleased for you. xxx

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 13:17

Oh Ceebee that is good news.

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 13:19

I cried at the chemists on monday. They had lost 2, not one, but 2, of my repeat prescriptions for blood testing strips.
Nothing like a few tears , don't you think ladies.

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 13:34

dear oh dear we are a mixed bag of emotions today aren't we ladies!!!! Lots of tears (and tantrums in my case!!!

hanaflower i do NEED to know - I already have 2 DS's and am desperate for a girl as this is my last child. have been told (but not 100%) that is a strong possibility. Mentally, I was very upset when DS2 was a boy as was convinced he was a girl and I don't want to go through that again. Plus I have lots of boys stuff that I can get rid off......

Just as you have choosen the need NOT to find out, I have choosen the NEED to find out but I agree that a 4d scan is a bit to much info in terms of facial features etc etc.

Obs can't believe the chemist, I have just found out that for regular prescriptions our local chemist will do it all for you - go to the Dr's with the repeat, get your meds and then deliver to my door - now that should suit an oblomov

ceebee excellent news, I am sure if it was CF there would be other indications, so again jsut one of those unexplained things that a few of us on the thread have had.......try not to worry xxx

Vbab repeat after me - "Pregnancy is hormonal...we have up's and down's and turn into irrational cry babies, but at the end of the day a minty magnum can sort us out"

Chin up everyone, this time in 4 months we shall all be holding our babies and freaking out about other things!!!!!!! (Can guarantee mine will be how to shift the minty magnum baby weight gained!!!

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 13:35

just feel so tired and weak that the last place I want to be is work.

on a good note though if I can muster the strength I'm meeting a friend for a girly night of pizza and sex&the city at the cinema.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/07/2008 13:36

ceebee good news about the baby's kidneys but sorry about the CF testing and yet more waiting and worry for you. In Scotland (at least in Edinburgh where I was) they did CF testing as part of your routine booking in (a saliva sample iirc), so I knew DH and I were fine when we were having DD....but to not know until afterwards and they do the heel prick test down here is very harsh I think.

It pisses me off that antenatal care isn't the same no matter where you are in the country either.

Anyway, digressing...sorry about all the raging hormones and seemingly irrational behaviour. IMO mothing is irrational when you are pregnant (well it might be, but if you can't indulge your whims now, when can you) so do what makes things less stressful for you.

I think with sex, the only thing that will guarantee the right result is amniocentesis, so even the gender scans can get it wrong, and I'm sure they will have lots of small print in their contract reminding you of this when you sign. Dozy, would it help to think that it is almost certain you are having a girl, but it might be a boy? that's how I dealt with DDs scan results as they did say they couldn't be 100% sure. It might be worth speaking to babybond and asking them for further clarification

right, cups of tea and galaxy chocolate all round today I think.

(me thinks that with the high level of hormones here you are probably both having girls anyway )

oh vbab - that sounds like my ideal night out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was going to suggest you slope of home from work early and have a chill on the sofa (maybe you still can?!)

I am desperate to see SATC but goodness knows when!!!

LackaDAISYcal · 16/07/2008 13:37

vbab, can you cry sick and get home for a bit of a lie down before you meet your friend tonight?

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 13:38

Minty magnums are the answer.
To everything.

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 13:38

oh yum - galaxy!!!

Thanks Lacksadaisy

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 13:39

I am such a SLOTH - should be doing the housework but am MN instead...I think I might need to self regulate my usage as well......

LackaDAISYcal · 16/07/2008 13:40

bloody hell dozy......when you see it in black and white "in four months we will be holding our babies".....eeeeeeeeeek

OP posts:
Oblomov · 16/07/2008 13:41

I should be stripping wallpaper.
I promised myself a ban on MN the other day.
Like, look how long that lasted !
I am sitting here eating snickers ice-cream bar.

Pinkali37 · 16/07/2008 13:41

Dozy - i'd go for a normal one if I were for you. See if you can get an appointment for a time when you almost know when baby will be active (just in case legs are crossed). I agree (with myself about not seeing characteristics) but i totally understand your need for wanting to know. I was really rude yesterday to a man in tesco. Firslt, he asked me who i got my electricity from, so i looked up and said the same company as was on his board, then he asked if i knew what i was having and i almost shouted " it's a baby". I'm really fed up of people asking me. I am going to get a t-shirt made up "Due November, Sex unknown, no we are not having twins or an elephant" (I feel huge)

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 13:42

oh yeah, Daisy shouldn't be here either, right

LackaDAISYcal · 16/07/2008 13:49

Oh, and a thought to cheer us all up.

When I was pregnant with DD, the girls on my AN thread all got together and did a secret stork. The lovely Marslady organised it for us and it worked like this:

everyone who wanted in emailed their details to mars, with the sex, if known, and what they definately didn't want to receive (ie toiletries if worried about eczema etc)

she then paired people up and emailed the recipients details to the sender.

the budget was £10, although you were free to spend more if you wanted, bearing in mind you might not get more spent on you.

We all sent our parcels out to be received by the middle of May (for June babies).

It was a really nice thing to do, and the shopping for it was fun. I got some really nice stuff including lovely toiletries and gluten free biccies for me, a wee cardi for the baby and a photo album and my sender also popped in a power rangers magazine for DS which was so thoughtful. I sent out a matching blanket and bib set (in funky zebra print).

Just a thought that we could do this if we are in need of cheering up. I could ask one of the women on my June thread if she would organise the names.

If anyone wants to take part (it's not obligatory), email me on daisybump at yahoo dot co dot uk, and I'll set the ball rolling

We did secret santa for the babies at Christmastime as well, but I think that'll bee too much for us from 2weeks plus after the births!!

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 13:50

you ladies are funny. thanks for cheering me up a little.

don't think me asking to go home would go down well with work. especially as i only have a 3 day week this week (today last day) and I'm on holiday until the 28th.

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 13:52

going off subject - can anyone recommend any tips/strategies for the following:

DS is aged 2. He has been in a cotbed for the past 3 weeks but keeps getting out of bed!!!!!!!! He used to sleep at lunchtimes like the proverbial baby but now keeps getting up and coming downstairs - I keep feeling someone looking at me as I "MN" and catch him peeping around the door!!! HE IS LAUGHING AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for caps there! Keep taking him abck to his room, and being firm but he ain't having it!!

DS1 slept at lunchtime until the age of 2 and 8months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HELP!!!

DM xx

serendippity · 16/07/2008 13:53

ceebee oh so pleased all seems ok and you have a lovely sonographer. All of mine have been pants so far, including the one who told me i was having a boy and, see how shocked i looked, reassured me that baby boys are indeed devils spawn, her own son included and yes i am in for a nightmare time after having dd

dozy I would need to know as well, tho maybe you're being a teeeeny bit paranoid I was exactly the same with my dd! Was very happy she was a girl, then read somewhere that sonographers do make mistakes as as boys bits can "hide", went upstairs to fairly "girly" decorated nursery and cried for 30 mins We didn't have money for extra scans, but if you do and it will help then go for it

doctorswife ouch! poor you! Crutches and wheelchair just from pulling muscles?! I had no idea!

vbab Sounds like you are in for a faaaab evening. Emotions all over the place for all of us i think. Hideously embarrasing confession: when pregnant with dd i was at work, on the computer looking at some sort of word wizard and a little paperclip with a big smily face popped up at the bottom of the screen to offer assistance. I clicked to remove him and his little face went all sad, he hoiked up a little backpack and wondered off my screen saying bye bye. it made me cry. The SHAME

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 13:55

PMSL at serrendipity and the paperclip!!!!!!!!!

HYSTERICAL!!

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 13:57
